Tony Perkins & Other Anti-LGBT Crackpots Form “Religious Liberty” Advisory Board For Ted Cruz
February 29, 2016 Duggar, Hate Groups, Religion

Two weeks ago Marco Rubio recruited a slew of anti-LGBT activists to sit on his “religious liberty” advisory board. This afternoon hate group leader Tony Perkins announced that he will chair a similar advisory board for Ted Cruz. Curiously, Heritage Foundation hater Ryan Anderson sits on both boards. From Perkins:

Ted Cruz announced today the creation of a 19-member Religious Liberty Advisory Council, which will guide his policies to protect religious liberty and reverse the unprecedented attacks on freedom both at home and abroad.
I am honored to chair this council at such a critical time in the history of this nation. Never before has religious freedom been more endangered than it is today under the policies of the Obama administration. We need a president who upon entering office will immediately begin reversing the damage done to our freedom to believe and our ability to live according to those beliefs.
While Ted has been effective on an array of national issues, he hasn’t strayed from his theme, which is that 2016 is going to be a ‘religious liberty election.’ This continues to resonate with Americans, who open their newspapers every day to a new story of religious hostility. I am confident that Ted Cruz, who has spent his career defending religious liberty in the courts and in the Senate, can be trusted and is prepared to make freedom mean something again in America.
Unfortunately, the future of freedom in America rests largely in the hands of the courts, which is why we need a president who can spot liberal jurists, and who will fight to ensure constitutionalists who respect the rule of law are seated on the Supreme Court. The formation of this Religious Liberty Advisory Council will be an encouragement to the American people. Help is on the way.
Some of the other members of the Cruz board:

Ryan Anderson, Ph.D.
William E. Simon Senior Research Fellow, Heritage Foundation
David Benham, entrepreneur
Jason Benham, entrepreneur
Ambassador Ken Blackwell
Former US Ambassador to the UN for Human Rights
Jim Garlow, Ph.D.
Pastor, Skyline Church, San Diego, CA
Dr. Mark Harris
Pastor, First Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC
Pastor Jack Hibbs
 Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, CA
Bishop Harry Jackson
Senior Pastor, Hope Christian Church, Bishop, International Communion of Evangelical Churches
Kelly Shackelford
President and CEO, First Liberty Institute
Carol Swain, Ph.D.

Perhaps if religious extremists kept their mythology in their homes and churches and weren't hostile to the rest of us, others wouldn't be hostile towards them.
That being said, I just got back from the grocery story and I passed two churches along the way. Strangely enough, neither of them had tape around the entrances or any other barricade barring people from their worship.
These assholes are bound and determined to put gay people back in the closet and force them to take their discrimination quietly. Well, no more. If tony and his ilk are determined to push, they are going to be pushed right back. Hard, fast, and quite decisively.

I completely agree. It's distasteful and I'm sick of them shoving their mythology down my throat. If I want to read about mythology, I'll go to my local library or the library in my home that holds hundreds of books about world mythology, legends, fairy tales, and tall tales.
All kidding aside, I disowned a relative who is a religious extremist because she was such a bad influence on my children. I've heard that she's taken to preaching on street corners and I wouldn't want anyone's kids exposed to her.
I personally don't care what they do in their churches or the privacy of their homes.

That is part of what makes them so dangerous. These people can never be allowed to get in any position of power. They'll start with gays and make their way down the list; straight allies, feminists, atheists, the educated, etc. If I wanted to live in Iran, I'd move there. If I wanted to live in a theocracy, I'd find one and live there.
These people don't want religious freedom (which they have as they damn well know), they want every American to kow tow to their belief system and I will never do that.

Cruz is in the lead in this hellhole because he wants to "empower Christians."
Meanwhile, several of the local churches have been holding meetings about an "inevitable" Constitutional amendment ensuring that anyone caught being "sexually perverse"--IE not cis/straight and only having sex with no birth control while married--gets the death penalty and people who they want to kill are funding their bullshit via taxes.
Yup, Christers in Arkansas are SO victimized.

There is a definite chance of that happening. Two Texas polls out today have Cruz with only a 3 point and a 1 point lead, so he may not even win Texas. There's a third poll that shows him 11 points ahead of Trump, but that one is by Fox, so I'd take it with a hefty dose of salt. I can't see any reason for him to continue in the race if he doesn't even win Texas. Trump has double-digit leads in almost all the other states voting tomorrow.

Obviously, American theofascists see this Presidential election as their best hope ever for turning America into a theocracy. They've made great inroads during the administrations of all the Republican Presidents beginning with Richard Nixon, but this election -- this election they see as their golden opportunity.
The Cialis sales force parading as "cable TV news" (where the majority of Americans get their news today) is afraid to broach this subject. Might lose their sponsors some customers.
But progressives and people who honor the line between Church and State must continue getting the word out.
Must continue sounding the alarm.

By the way, students at Vanderbilt started a change dot org petition last November to have Carol Swain (now on this advisory board) terminated for extreme bigotry and intolerance. She has been a frequent guest of Tony's Family Research Council and speaks at tea party events.

HGTV made a business decision that having two twins who fought for a marriage ban and have called LGBT folks evil having a show on a network whose viewership is a lot of LGBT and LGBT friendly folks wasn't the best idea.
And as usual, the same bigots who claim companies have the right to fire someone solely because they are LGBT in up in arms over a company looking at their bottom line and reacting accordingly.
This should be called the hypocrisy panel.

i have to admit, all my mean high school impulses come out when i read about these guys. they really do, and i feel bad about it cause i was not always popular in high school. just like these asshats.
i wasn't popular for a lot of reasons, maybe i even earned some of those. but i got over it, grew up and made friends and went to a good college, etc.
i look at crooze and toni and i think, "gosh. you guys are still so very bitter. no one cool ever invited you to a party when you were young. the popular crowd gave you underwear snaps in the locker rooms, and the prom queen laughed when you asked her best friend out. and everyone in the hallway joined her."
trolls are trolls. they may have billions of dollars behind them, but the smell never changes. Beautiful size 5 runway model teenage me says, "hah. you'll never be (student body) president, you idiot. and nobody goes to his xtian bible study group unless they are trying to get out of detention." and no, i'm still not inviting either one of them to my party. when i was a college student, i threw many of those that people still talk about. i guess crooze can say the same, in that people still say, "oh god. do you remember when we had to close the door on him, and tell him it was a private study session? lol, what a troll."

Keep them dogies movin'

Soon we'll be living high and wide.

My true love will be waitin'
Be waiting at the end of my ride.
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on

Interesting that Tony is speaking to Americans:
who open their newspapers every day to a new story of religious hostility.

That's pretty much the audience for this kind of BS - old people who have not transferred to digital media. Meanwhile the "threat" to religious liberty Tony highlights has not changed since 1964, when our country rightly concluded that discrimination based on religious lifestyle choice (e.g., "restricted" businesses that refused to serve Jews) shouldn't be allowed.

It is one of the top rated private Universities in the Country. They have a School of Law, School of Medicine, an Engineering School, a Divinity School, A Nursing School, a School of Music, and a College of Arts & Science. It has has one of the finest Medical Centers in the Country, with a Superior Children's Hospital. It also partners with the VA and the VA Hospital in Nashville is part of the Vanderbilt Campus complex. I have a Daughter that got her PhD at Vanderbilt and I can tell you if the Vandy students and faculty have a problem with this woman, the problem is her.

This, in the unlikely event you care, is Carol Swain, Ph.D., part of the 'religious liberty' advisory board. She dismissed the David Duke endorsement of Trump as no big deal because it's just 'political correctness.' Duke has probably sent her a queen-sized white bed sheet in appreciation.
She teaches at Vanderbilt, widely regarded as a good school, at least in the mid-South, despite the fact that it's in Ten Uh See.

They've slipped in"and live according to those beliefs" so quietly we risk letting this become a right. Actually it is directly what the first forbids.
In order to live according to their book, laws must change. Changing them means establishing religion.
We cannot lose this point. Believe what you want. Act/live according to secular laws.
We know they lie, time to point out whenever we have a voice what they are trying to do. Americans are too stupid to see this, we must tell them.
Remember, the first protects us from government religion. It does not protect us from government laws!
