Perhaps this has been discussed in the past, but I can't help noticing that on many posts creation vs evolution seems to equal theist vs atheist. Granted, a creationist by defination would have to believe in a creator. On the other hand, believing in evolution doesn't automatically make one an atheist, A small point perhaps, but I think it would be more accurate to say believer vs nonbeliever.
Just sayin'.

If you believe in evolution then, while a deist type god is not out of the question, it pretty much negates the adam and eve story, original sin, the reason jesus came to the earth etc. It negates everything a christian believes in really.

It definitely kills the Bible, so unless you completely redefine your idea of the Creator, then evolution does lead to atheism.

Many christians accept the fact of evolution. It is only fundies, cults and muslims that reject it.
Science is based on the principle of methodological naturalism. That means beginning with an assumption that there is an answer to all questions that doesn't involve the supernatural. The moment you admit an intelligent designer you have stopped doing science and made further investigation impossible.
"Theistic evolution" takes the position that unguided evolution explains all of life but that there is also a deity who at most set the initial conditions.
It pays respect to the science but it raises difficult theological questions. Why would a god use a method that requires millions of years of death and extinction. 99% of all species in life's history no longer exist. Homo sapiens with minds like ours have been around for maybe 200,000 years. They mostly died young from starvation, predation, and illness. In all those centuries god did nothing. Why?
Ten questions for creationists...

Many christians accept the fact of evolution.
They accept it as they know if they don't they will be increasingly marginalised as nutters.
The problem is then they struggle to square the circle as to why Jesus came to earth and had to die.
So I'm not sure you can be a (proper) Christian and believe in evolution.

I think it's possible a diety could have created the universe, the material that was needed for matter and the power to create the big bang. He could have also went around to planets planting seeds of DNA and the things needed to start life. Now he's kicking back and watching it all. He is indifferent to what happens to life on each planet he seeded just studying the whole thing. Its possible.
I believe in evolution and am not an atheist because it is possible.

It's hard to get a feel for overall attendance from solitary data points.
Even locally year over year attendance is hard to extract meaning from. Typically congregations alternate between an "early" memorial and a "late" one, if they share a Kingdom Hall. The "early" one is always better attended.
So if last year was an "early" one and attendance was 140 and this year was a "late" one and attendance was 120, it's hard to extract any meaningful info from that.

Down by 8: 73 (2015) vs 65 (2016). Also no one from territory or with invites only non JW families attending inflated normal attendance.

it is interesting to me to see how even back in 2011 the witnesses knew about the "mind control" and "cult" concepts.
it is very likely that relatives or loved ones of jw's stumble upon hassan and read "mind control" and go and warn their loved ones.

my wife and i had business to attend to out of town today and i had thought if we made it back home in time, we'd go to the memorial.
as it turned out, we didn't get home in time and we missed it, but we had a real good talk with each other on the way home.
we are largely successful faders and at the very least, i like to try and make the memorial.

there is a line in the first song ( # 147 ) that blatantly contradicts the wtbts dogma of the heavenly calling being an invitation as opposed to a sure thing.

A Troubling Culture: JW Group Think vs. Individual Critical Thinking

i had no idea that the resistance, governance, and duplicity i am experiencing as a jehovah witness is actually part of a bigger behavioral issue that permeates the entire jehovah witness culture.. i was troubled by the fact that many persons who have been crushed by the unfair practices of jw leadership described themselves as former members of the jw cult, and, or, apostates.
the latter bothered me to a greater degree because i felt the word apostate has been overused by jw's leadership and members.
anyone who disagrees with anything the governing body does or says is assigned the label an apostate.

by its own mandate in the founding of the watchtower magazine in 1879, it was set up to proclaim the arrival of jc in the heavens according to the then currently failed adventist claim for jesus' return the year 1874.. russell's catalyst for all that came afterwards was his pet claim (in so many words) "aha but jc did in fact come... but came invisibly!
" he added without sound evidence that it took four years for jc to come to rule from the heavens after his arrival there and that then was said to be in 1878. .
within forty biblical years from the arrival date, russell promised, with hopes even higher than his bank account, that god’s kingdom with christ at the helm would rule the earth in the absence of all worldly opposition.

When you click on it it asks if you've been to the convention yet. If you click "no" you don't get to see anything. So you click "yes" and you do!

Religion is like taking candy from a baby it just that easy.
So kids whenever you get some allowance from your parents, think about making Jehovah smile upon you as you drop that money into the contribution box at your Kingdom Hall.
We should always keep in mind that judgment day is coming soon so we want to be in appeasement to Jehovah before that day comes, forfeiting one ice cream cone is surely much more important and also keep in mind how Jehovah is going to reward us all one day. .......... yahhhh !!!

This video teaches a child that if he/she spends their money on something for themselves they are selfish and disloyal, whereas if you give it to the gb you make Jehovah happy and prove yourself faithful.
So, kids are not allowed to buy an ice cream cone or some other treat for themselves, all of their money must be donated to the gb?

I agree with those who point out that she should be learning to think of others. This could be Caleb! Instead of getting the double-scoop for herself she may have been able to share and get single scoops, one for herself, one for Caleb.
THAT would be a lesson. It would indicate that the loving Governing body isn't always only thinking of themselves.

I hope people get smart and stop donating anything at all. Money is supposed to be enjoyed, not thrown away.

All this money-begging from the Borg lately tells me they're worried and that the donations aren't coming in as much as they used to.
In the countries that aren't in poverty, lots of JWs are leaving. The ones who remain are so hardcore that they don't earn any extra to donate. In the countries where JWs are still growing, everyone is so poor they don't have extra to donate either.
But the real estate sales in Brooklyn ought to fund them for awhile yet, unfortunately.

In the Masonic community we have 3 different youth groups. I have been involved with one of them first as a youth then as an adult leader. Our youth is ask to pay annual dues (normally around $15, the surprising thing is a Masonic group will pay these for the girls each year). This is an international group of girls between the ages of 10 and 12. They learn many things BUT each year they raise money for HIKE -- Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment. In the US last year alone these girls raised $130,000. To be eligible to receive assistance from this charity all YOU have to do is complete the form, have the doctor complete his part of the form. The funds are available for any child in need between the age of birth and 20. We never ask about race, religion etc. Just need based.
I have said on other threads that these cartoons are emotional abuse. As the Elder had said he had hoped I would see differently -- no chance -- my heart goes out to these kids. I read this stuff and I cannot tell you how much all this hurts from where I come from. If you all could only experience how the Masonic community treats kids. All the time, work and money we personally put into children. Before responding to this just look up Shriner's Hospitals for just one of the things we do.

Sounds like a very wholesome empathic thing to do for young girls into learning about caring for other people.
Compare that to what the JWS does to their young girls ???

Finkelstein, First we put kids on a pedalstal. In the youth organization they are very much encouraged to learn everything from how to run an organization, fund raisers, community service events. For an example by the time my daughter was 15 she was head of the local chapter for 2 years. She could run meetings with a packed room up to 100 in attendance. She traveled throughout the state as a representative and was very well known giving speeches for many causes. All of these efforts has afforded her many scholarship and grants toward a degree in deaf and blind education.
Each one of these girls learn to respect God, their country, the adults who are there to guide them, and a deep compassion for helping those less fortunate then themselves.
I will add we also have a lot of fun doing all of these events. State events when we take over entire hotels are a blast. You see 400 or 500 young ladies dressed up in formals all proud of their accomplishments. You are as proud as you can be an adult of such a wonderful organization -- all the money I spend in gas, helping them out, keeping my Certified Adult Volunteer Certicate up to date is worth it.

Finkelstein, I will add with my training as a CAV (Certified Adult Volunteer) and being what the Elder referred to as rather outspoken had I been in a KH in February when that Noah cartoon was played I would not have needed a mic. That was outright emotional abuse!!! I had a child who had Epstein Barre virus when he was in 10th grade. I would so have lost it!!!!!
I really do not think the elders and I would have every gotten along because I would be defending every kids behavior. Kids will be kids. They are not going to sit still and some of those topics NOT NOT NOT FOR CHILDREN'S EARS!!!
MEN DO NOT QUESTION WOMEN ABOUT SEXUAL ABUSE! That is for any elders who are lurking here!!!

The lesson for kids is that they should give ALL their money to the WTS. There was no mention of 10% in that video.
No mention of budgeting, saving, a little here, a little there, a little for donations.
Nope! They show the girl dropping every coin she owns into the coffer as a way of making God happy..
stuckinarut2
stuckinarut2 10 months ago
The sick video presented ONLY two options to a young impressionable child:
1) "selfishly" spend the money on yourself
OR
2) "lovingly and unselfishly" give the money to "Jehovah"
The very premise is misleading! To only present those options FORCES children to think in a biased way!

As shown in the edited video in Oogie's post, the GB wants JW kids to pay for the child abuse settlements. Clearly, Watchtower Corp and the governing buffoons are prepared to make victims of EVERY child one way or another. They gotta start the fear, obligation, and guilt early.

Just got done glancing at live kingdom hall site and I thought of how smugly Jehovah's Witnesses brag about how they don't have a paid clergy. I saw KHs and assembly hall's with built in apts for visiting overseerers, special visiting dignitaries, caretakers. . .Then I am reminded of all the bethelites supported by JWs, the assessments to provide cars and insurance and support for overseers. . .and I know the elders are unpaid and overtaxed with responsibilities and often their own finances and I wonder if JWs wouldn't be better off with a self supporting church like the local baptists, whose congregations are self supporting in spite of paying a pastor and staff. They still support charities, missions, food banks, reach out in real ways to the community. . .all that humility and the JW leadership lives without worrying about their bills while the ranks are CONSTANTLY pestered for more money. The leadership has no organised efforts to help the JWs even. Even the first century Christians managed that! They lived in tents and dirt floored houses. In fact, charity in times of need is the only thing I remember anyone collecting money for in the NT. Except taxes, and that was the role of rome. The wtbts seems more like a tax collector than a charity. None of the options for helping was to help their brothers, it ALL came back to sending money to Brooklyn bethel. Or the Cayman islands or where it goes these days.

Caleb and Sophie's parents don't NEED the money, right? But WatchTower NEEDS every red cent in order to pay for an entire MOUNTAIN in China, from which they are mining ALL of the granite that they are using in construction at the new WT HQ. No BS! WT actually bought a freakin' MOUNTAIN in China, and having the "local brothers" over there mine, cut, and ship it over to the USA to be used in the construction of WT HQ. So there's the "charity" that the kid's ice cream money is going towards. Sickening!

problemaddict: Oh wow! Orphan Crow for the win!
I have to credit a friend on facebook for this little gem. He posted it this morning. I was floored when I saw it.
I remember as a child being so intrigued and jealous of my friends at school who would talk about their Sunday School activities and I also remember how the things that the churches of the world did with the kids would be scoffed at by the JW parents.
"We don't need to do coloring stuff and things with our children. They study the Bibble." Said self righteously and pompously. With a snicker thrown in for good measure.
How things change. Children activities with a Watchtower twist. Madness.

Interesting isn't it OrphanCrow ..................other religions want their children to turn their attention to Jesus (supposedly a living being worthy of worship) without any mention of money. Watchtower wants their children to turn their attention to some inanimate buildings and send them money to perpetuate the ruse.

Yes...I did some google searches for general activities to do with children to instill a sense of charity with them. None of the numerous ideas suggested for parents to do had to do with putting money into a church collection box to build new churches and give away propaganda. The activities had to do with donating food and clothing to shelters, working in soup kitchens...you get the drift.
if the WT are designing children "charitable" activities to give the appearance that they are a "charity", then they have a really, really twisted idea of what charity means.
*to add - and what is this about the necessity to be generous towards "God"? Towards the being who they claim is supreme and all powerful? Why would a child be told that God needs money??

How do the r&f not see what's going on here? I mean, its not even a picture of a kid with money going into the maze, its just a picture of a f*****g hand holding out money. How much more blatant can they get? They might as well just come out and say "We don't care about you, just put your money in the box, spend all your time trying to find other people to put money in the box, and don't complain about it".

LOL, a few years ago this would have been unbelievable but now they are really pushing for the cash. Make no mistake this is not about kid's ice cream money. It's about making the parents feel guilty when their child goes to donate $0.25. This is a subtle guilt trip for parents, if your kids want to give, why don't you? You should set the example for your little JWs.

◦Absolutely there is an underlying message built into this for the parents.
They are being told not to buy anything extra or "superfluous" for their children. The children are to deprive themselves. Well, that means mom and dad have to stop getting them treats or new things. If the parents don't do that...they aren't training their children right.
Sheesh, first they took Xmas away. And birthdays. And Easter. Valentines. No more spending money on frilly stuff. If ya ain't buying gifts at holidays, all the more for the Tower coffers. No holidays of any kind - and now....no ice cream and no....everything. Just more Kingdom Halls and literature carts.
What the hell is next? Only a bowl of rice three times a day??

Yeah, this is pretty bad. Words fail at something so blatant and shameless So, I'll talk about the art instead...are those cows (and stacks of paper??) in the picture next to the Watchtower sign? Definitely no cows in Brooklyn so looks like they're subliminally preparing people for the move to the boonies.

Definitely cows. Cute ones. That poop a lot. Cause Watchtower Farms are so important.
Not stacks of paper. Well, sort of. A stack of silver swords - the WT bibble.
Cow poop and bibbles.

No it's not.
It's early training to be a Watchtower slave forever.
It instills a sense of devaluing the self in young children - which sets the stage for creating the perfect little victim as well.

I'm still in shock from the visual image of a child being taught to give their coins not to feed hungry children or for housing the homeless...but to give their coin to tall buildings. Buildings!! Oh, and meaningless literature carts everyone tries to avoid.
It's definitely a new low and I think normal people would be horrified to see it. Please share, if you can.

This is sickening. The average JW will think nothing of it, but perhaps admire that it gives three options.
Isn't that how a con artist or manipulator work? They control the situation (or options) but convince the prey that they have choice in a matter. In the end the con artist still gets what they want, no matter what choice is made.

I met Dan and his wife Marina many years ago, through one of the very few good JW friends that I had. He did have sort of this quiet rebelliousness about him, for lack of a better description. A bit of an enigma for sure, if nothing else. I too am curious what you know about him personally.

Was Sydlik a restraining influence?
He was the only restraint and I'm not saying that lightly. I know there are a dozen others here who were in Bethel back in the early 2000's who know what I'm talking about. He actually kept me thinking this was Jehovah's org because of his sincerity as if the holy spirit was operating in him. All others were/are about power and control. Did you notice a major shift in organization matters since 2006 and not for the better but more cult-like since then? Yeah that was because Dan was the only restraint holding them back from demanding complete obedience and loyalty to the only faithful slave. Sound familiar? Some of us felt Dan was a secret apostate who died with that secret. God bless him wherever he is now.

Someone suggested sharing this.
I Know of three local non witnesses who have seen this, along with the ice cream video.
Their reactions were utterly shocking! One said it was "like a North Korean propaganda series"
The other was appalled at the level of guilt it was designed to inflict on children.
The other just started laughing until he was told it was actually serious, and not a joke...then he was notably disturbed!

This takes the cake. What total a**holes.
If the watchtower has declared so many things "demonic" or "pagan" in origin - wouldn't a maze fit into that category without a lot of effort? I know that labyrinths have become popular with some modern day Christians with a bit of New Age bent. Oh, the horror- Christendom!

Be Generous Toward Jehovah
The indoctrination starts so young. It is not Jehovah, it is a corporation they are giving their money to. No wonder JW adults cannot distinguish the difference between leaving the religion and leaving Jehovah.

I'm at peace that I no longer support these 'leaders' - to do so would mean that I'm OK with children and vulnerable people being taught to be obedient in all things to those who are approved through appointment, as in Elders, COs, DOs and the horrible, dishonest and manipulative writing department.
My husband and I saw behind the curtain years and years ago, but allowed for 'imperfection' as we allowed ourselves to be lulled into the arms of what seemed to be a Christian movement, a brotherhood.
We'd get 'flashes' of feeling disturbed, but made allowances.
The show is over for good - the true colours of cheap commercialisation have bled out over the 'clean image' - the ARC, the 'face' of the leaders, lacking candour, dodging questions.
I hope they read here and absolutely 'get' what damage they are doing and what damage they have done.
Their people lie for them, their 'trained' Christians are not set free by truth - but are entrapped in a bubble of fear and pretence.
I've seen it, heard it.
This latest offering for children has enraged me. Thank God I have no children in this vile mess that masquerades as 'the truth'.

I think these types of ads are more to guilt the parents into donating than to teach the kids. Kids don't have money, parents do and the BOrg wants that money NOW
After all parents need to lead by example, and if "I'm teaching my kids to give to jehovah how much more so should I be willing to give?"
Very typical of BOrg

This is the crap we indoctrinated our own children with. When we woke even as teenagers we with the aid of similar propaganda we had done such a good job we nearly failed at waking them too.
I'll hand it to the WT they know how to manipulate people's minds. They're masters at ti. In many cases cold hard fact isn't enough when even right in front of their eyes to wake some.

Never a JW. As I have stated on this forum many times I am one of the adult leaders of one of the Masonic youth groups. We teach our youth about charity work. The major fund raiser is HIKE which is short for Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment. Each year these youth will organize on their own with some adult assistance all types of fund raisers to raise money for this charity. Last year alone the state I am from these kids raised $25,000 for this charity.
Who benefits from this charity? Any child who has hearing loss between the ages of 10 and 20 and applies for assistance, we ask no questions as to religious beliefs, race, etc only questions asked are medical need and financial need.
As I said on another thread yesterday these videos and literature produced for the children by the WT "ARE" child abuse!!!

Utterly disgusting. Thanks for posting this Orphan Crow. WT Society needs to be exposed for the abusive organization it is and the abusive WT leaders it has needs to be exposed.
With statistics showing that about 66 % or 2/3rds of JW youth under 18 DO leave the JW organization- WT Society leaders are DESPERATE to try reaching minor children anyway they can. Stupid cartoons with mazes in them. Cartoons about ice cream , demonic play toys- you know " ordinary " stuff like that. And in the midst of it all trying to make children feel " odd " or like they are " missing out " if they don't join Sophie and give to " Jehovah " ( AKA WT Society ) their allowance money, or any money they have. It's like , " Screw your college education kids ! Let's realize our priorities in giving for " Kingdom interests " ( AKA WT Society interests ) so you'll have a " future " with " God's " organization . " Makes me want to vomit.
The more all of us talk openly to non-JW's and expose this crap- the more people will slam the door in the faces of these mind controlled drones out in service. I hope the whole organization goes down in flames some day. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Think about: most JW are females - and females are more generous when donating.
Like the producers of a commercial - the GB knows exactly the target group.
That's no coincidence.

You said it well. I'm no longer in the religion either, but if I were in I would be positively enraged about these shameful campaigns to extort money out of everybody, most recently targeting children!
It does seem that the show IS over for the religion with the show of cheap commercialism recently and the disgrace of that Australian Royal Commission.
No more holy mystique...I'm glad they are being exposed. So, let them keep making these creepy ads/videos. Oh, and for anybody who thinks these are just for JWs and won't be seen by others is only fooling themselves.
Of course, some of the public reached by JWs will end up eventually seeing these videos and I wonder what kind of impression THAT will make!

Don't know if anyone else caught this subtle but malicious photo from the 12/13/15 WT study article.
Not sure how to post pictures here, but the photo is on the website's copy of the article, just below paragraph 12:
http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/w20151015/give-us-more-faith/
Note the 3 pictures in sequence tell a "story":
Panel 1: JW family looks at a map while JW dad sells them the idea of moving to where the "need is greater"
Panel 2: JW dad & JW son preach to a 3rd world fisherman
Panel 3: JW parents spend "quality time" with JW kids in front of their 3rd world hovel
Hmm, wait a minute, let's go back to panel 1.
JW family is in their comfortable US home. Dad's pointing out the god-forsaken backwater he will move them to. But what's that in little JW-lad's arms? Only the cutest little snow-white Bichon you've ever laid eyes on!
Little JW-lad look like he's about ready to cry. If the family picks up and moves to Outer Fumbuck, what will happen to little Fluffy?
"Don't worry son - we'll be sure to drop off Fluffy at the local ASPCA on the way to the airport. Why, I'm sure there's at least a 10% chance they won't have to euthanize him!"
In panels 2 & 3 of course, Fluffy appears to be long forgotten, replaced by the joy of handing out pieces of paper to illiterate fisherman.
These people (WT writers) have taken a sharp turn into cruelty & viciousness. It is a sudden and rather disturbing turn.

Great catch dint see that @sir82. The kid has the look on his eyes like how much he will miss the dog. Don't worry you will be happy preaching were the need is less greater. I have family who has move to Central America to serve or preach. In the two years they have been there, they have helped zero even become publishers. What's the point of being away in another country with no actual results?

Someone commented at the meeting I attended and said they were sure the family brought the dog with them. But when I saw that boy's face, I knew the WTS was saying the kid would be losing his pet but that's a sacrifice worth making.
Have you noticed they spend a huge amount of time discussing all the details of these stupid pictures and when they read scriptures, they gloss over them. Well, it is a Watchtower study after all and not a Bible study! Still, they act like those scriptures were sent directly from heaven. Some of the historical pictures have details that are not in the Bible and those commenting say the additional details must be true since they are in the WT.
Crazy cult.

I'm afraid I am a grown man who, when he sees a photo of a bichon, sees and hears nothing else but the adorable little cuddlesome bundle.
Please, please, please Watchtower editor: If you need to embellish articles with photos, do NOT include a bichon - regardless of the point you are trying to make. That point will be completely lost on me,
All I will see is the lovely bundle of joy that I so want to lovingly squeeze and cuddle; I will not hear a single word you say.

He giveth a modern-style, slim-fitting untucked shirt, an open collar and man bag. Father and son have never looked so dogless but cool.

Doubting Bro: Have you noticed they spend a huge amount of time discussing all the details of these stupid pictures and when they read scriptures, they gloss over them. Well, it is a Watchtower study after all and not a Bible study! Still, they act like those scriptures were sent directly from heaven. Some of the historical pictures have details that are not in the Bible and those commenting say the additional details must be true since they are in the WT.
Well said indeed! Yes, the in depth analysis of the WT pictures has always amazed me! The things they see in them, and the way such are treated as "gospel" is mind blowing!
"yes, well we see clearly here that Jehovah is telling us...blah blah.....etc...."

*** w56 7/1 p. 397 par. 6 What Dedication Means to Me ***
And so it is in the old world today: people are so devoted and dedicated to their personal interests, their businesses, their professions, their careers, or they are so taken up with their hobbies, their pets or their fancies, that they have no time to devote attention to the pure worship and service of the only living and true God, “whose name alone is JEHOVAH.”—Ps. 83:18.

First off if the picture was real, (as opposed to a WT staged photo,)the dog was better off without this heartless family, something that cute would snapped up by some dog lover.
But,I think it is damn irresponsible of WT to encourage those with young children to serve in countries where things like education, healthcare, the local infrastucture etc etc are inadequate and it can be downright unsafe for adults, let alone small children.
Shame on you WT!
Oh and newsflash to the GB: no one, nowhere on earth has a "need" for your family destroying cult. Piss off out of their countries these people have enough to deal with!

*** g76 1/22 p. 18 Enjoy Animals—in Their Place! ***
When her husband died, Mrs. E. bought a Sealyham terrier. She grew very fond of it. At the end of a year, however, she calculated how much her pet cost. She had gradually come to feed it special meat and snacks—$547.50 in one year. Shots and medicines—$50; grooming and accessories (sprays, collars, toys and so forth)—$291; kennel care when she traveled—$126. After giving this example, a book about pets concluded:
“When Mrs. E. found that she had spent, in one year, [$1,014.50] on her dog, a sum equivalent to the annual income of a migrant worker in California, she decided there was something basically wrong about treating animals, however much one loved them, better than people.”
That was her conclusion. Someone else might conclude that for him the benefits of having a pet warrants the cost. In any event, a person ought to weigh the expense and use reasonableness in deciding what is best for him. Priorities differ, as do circumstances. One African said:
“In the general economic climate of undeveloped Africa it is very difficult for people to understand how the higher paid members of the community can spend as much, if not more, money on feeding dogs and cats and horses than the average person spends feeding his whole family.”

Just a profoundly pathetic study. Implying to give up on what actually makes you happier, which is pets. Brutal.
So craftily & subtly applied. Cruelty to children to give-up what little joy little kids have in the Borg. I can't find the words for it. Can't describe it.
Magnum
Magnum 3 months ago
I think your interpretation is correct and that the intended point in the pics is "subtle and malicious".
In the first photo, the boy is looking at and petting the dog in a sad, contemplative way, as if he's thinking about giving him up. That part of the photo is there for a reason; the org is making a point. The dog is absent in the other photos. I believe that, too, is for a reaon. The org is making a point - that JWs should be willing to give up their pets.
They view animals as just objects that can be discarded or moved around. They are cold and heartless. This especially infuriates me because I'm an animal lover, and I know from vast experience that animals have feelings; it can be extremely traumatic for an animal to be removed from those with whom he is familiar and to whom he is attached.
I had a precious cat that I dearly loved. She was a small cat that was abandoned as a kitten and that I rescued. She dearly loved me. She wanted to be with me constantly. She would climb my leg to get on my shoulder. She slept with me.
Well... I became a JW. No, I certainly didn't get rid of her, but I started pioneering and doing all the other JW stuff, and I only gave her token attention because I was gung ho in the ministry thinking billions of lives were at stake and that the "new world" would arrive soon and I would be able to be with her constantly.
I went on what was supposed to be a six-month assignment where the need was greater. The cat stayed with my mother and died after I had been gone about a month. That was thirty years ago. I just told my wife recently that leaving that cat is one of the biggest regrets I have. I will never deprive any of my animals for that cold, heartless organization again.
I continue to grow daily in my disgust for the org. Animals are suffering all over the world - some in ways inconceivable (believe me; I have video and photos). The org could help out greatly in this area. But does it care? Well, you know the answer to that. Does Morris care? Does Lett care? Instead of concentrating on money and real estate and big-shot accommodations for themselves, why don’t they do something to help out poor, suffering creatures? Because they’re heartless.

Amen to that!! Depriving children of the basic foundations of life , namely proper education, and health care is irresponsible, selfish and borders on neglect! All for the aim of appearing righteous to other witnesses...

They view animals as just objects that can be discarded or moved around.
1) Animals don't worshipfully treat every word dripping from the lips of the GB as precious golden nectar
2) Animals don't contribute $$$
Come to think of it, neither do children, which explains why the GB views them with contempt as well.

Studies show that being around animals has a therapeutic effect. And considering the life a youngster in the Borg the stress can be off the chart. I know from experience!!!!
Whether it's being around horses, dogs or cats it's proven that it lowers your blood pressure and increases your immune system, which is loving something.
I know that some soldiers during war, they bring a beautiful golden retriever to the soldiers' camp to bring the spirits of the soldiers. Some cases soldiers are taken to see horses, pet the horses to relieve stress.
Now they're implying in WT's for children in the Borganization to give up what little jollies they have. I'm just at loss of words.

totally illogical.
first , off, one poster here brought up a good point. how taking children to another country sure is not something that is easily done. has anyone ever known a jw 'family' with young children, to be sent to a foreign country to preach a illogical message to people completely in the dark about a mainly American religion? and to what end will this benefit those people?
not only that, its implied that they are taking the kids out of out of school. again, teaching that there is no value to keeping up with needed education .
who do they think they are? the Wild Thornberrys? lol.
[plus,we all know how awful it went when Christianity was being forced on the people hundreds of years ago].
to be irresponsible to ones obligations,of family pets, and farm animals, is ,IMO, against the scriptures. what is the message to kids , when parents show so little concern and responsibility to another living thing?
that they are not to be valued. and the lack of love for something that has brought joy, is totally ridiculous.
apparently, none of the GB has had any pets.
how then are Values to be taught when the WT teaches that nothing is of value in the world? There is no lesson to be learned about how to love and care living things that are dependent on humans.
and yet here they are saying well gee, toss the dog over to someone else, drag the kids out of school, take them from grandma and grandpa and aunt and uncle, and all their friends, make them insecure, and dont worry about it.
that's teaching disrespect and lack of care.

awww, give serena a break. She never got baptised and she is walking a fine line to keep her family and her career. She's getting away with what none of us really could (but wish we could!!) . She could be one of us here, telling us how she is trying to fade without losing her family. And lets face it. she kind of gives the WT the one fingered salute frequently and gets away with it. She's having her cake and eating it too. She's beautiful, strong, rich and once her mom dies, she and sis will probably announce that they no longer consider themselves associates or JWs. (BTW, I in no way wish ill on their mom-they obviously love her to be playing this game so long.)

The whole objective of this photo is to show how the family left all the comforts of home to a place where ''the need is greater."
What I see is the mom,dad and daughter all happy eyeing at a map of the family's new destination. The boy is looking away and holding and petting the dog.Why isn't he looking at the map and excited as the rest of the family? Why isn't the dog in any other picture with the family? They could of included the dog in another picture but the ''writers'' wanted to show that the family left everything, even the dog for this ''greater need'' bullshit!

i do believe that if the BORG said that dogs are a waste of time and you should consider getting rid of them. if anything would open eyes...it would be that. she loves our three dogs with all her heart.
she will get rid of me before she parts with the dogs.
but, in all reality.....this would open her eyes to it being a cult.

The GB are so far removed from normal human emotions that they don't even love animals. Seriously, they are sociopaths, maybe even psychopathic, like their God.
Many times they have referred to pets as "idols", even alluding to pets as "false gods." These guys are sick. They want you to worship THEM and adore THEM. They want you to spend ALL your money on THEM!
They lie about pedos to the authorities! They lie about blood transfusions! They lie about their own history! They are liars!! They aren't worthy of my pets!!

You all are missing the point. Its not that they are losing a dog. The loving GB is showing how the family will GAIN pet roaches, poisonous snakes, bot flies in their skin, all manner of stomach worms, such as tape and roundworm. Dad, and son, will gain little pet fishes that will swim up the urethras in their penises. Dont forget lice for EVERY family member, and the mosquitoes, oh the mosquitoes!
The mosquitoes will bring the joys of malaria, and yellow fever. Please, also, let us not forget that the family will gain all forms of bacterias too. From flesh eating, to intestinal bacteria, they will keep you busier than any old pet dog would.
Then brothers and sisters, if you are just blessed enough by Jehovah, on a preaching run with the family, deep into the jungle where few have gone, you may receive the best pet of all. Thats right, you could just gain a predatory jungle cat, both exotic, and terrifying. And, if you are lucky enough, it may just eat one of your children.
Do you see how Jehovah blesses those who sacrifice for him. No brothers, you are not losing a dog, you are gainin g SOOO MUCH MORE.

WT does not place anything in their photos, (worthy of notice), without a reason. The dog being shown in the first picture, and absent in the latter ones tells the story indeed, as does the sad look of anticipated loss in the child's body language.

It goes from bad to worse. Bad enough to take away the ice cream. Now, they are taking it to a level where they don't care about taking away an animal--at least one does not become attached to an ice cream cone. This basically makes people think about going along with the ban on ice cream cones--I hope this causes people in the congregation to say enough on Worldwide Damnation Fund donations. And start going to the ice cream shop with funds pledged for the Worldwide Damnation Fund.
And, with the remaining funds, spend it all on silver and keep the silver.

I remember way back when... many moons ago... when a CO came thru, and in one of his talks on giving your all to god, er, the bOrg, he went off on pets. They're needy, costly, and can very well get in your way to surviving Armageddon. If you put too much emphasis on your pet(s), consider them one of the family, care too much, then when time comes to hightail it, are you going to look back at your sad eyed puppy and be turned into a pillar of salt? I paraphrase of course, but that was the gist of his attitude and cautionary tale.
But he really went too far when he declared that your pet does not have affection for you. They are incapable of appreciating what you as their owner/caregiver do for them. They cannot return love or affection. He blew it right then and there. There was an almost mutiny in the congregation after that meeting. Every pet owner was upset. How dare he say that. Their pets were part of the family, and they do show affection.
That was such a surreal moment that it has stayed with me all these years, and Sir's post kinda brought back those memories of that day/week. And it shows just how manipulative the WT leadership attempts to be... even to the point of denying people their pets. The money to feed and care for that mutt could've gone to them. The time playing with them, or watching your kids play with kittens and puppies would be so much better spent knocking on doors of empty houses. They really are a sorry lot of human beings.

This past summer I was in Peru for 2 weeks, Lima, Cuzco, the Amazon jungle, Machu Picchu. No one gives a damn about the JW's down there. All they know is that JW's are an annoyance. Know why? They bring absolutely NOTHING of value to the destitute lives of those poor people. I visited an orphanage / community center sponsored by our tour guide (G-Adventures), and also helped run by the local Catholic Church. I was blown away. Here was "Christendom" and "worldly business" working together to help the downtrodden, hungry, orphans. What does the WTBTS do for those people? JACK SH*T. So tell me, what "witness" did I see? Who showed the "fruitages of the spirit", and was more "Christ-like"? Wasn't the JW's. Wasn't the Mormons or Advents either. They were just down there peddling their cult crap as well. All the poor people knew better.
I've heard many times on here how the 3rd world countries are ripe pickings for cults like the WTBTS. Having now been there, I can call - BS!!!! These poorer people see right thru the JW's recruiting, how they are money-grubbing, rude, and full of themselves, with absolutely nothing to contribute their culture or way of life, not even helping the hungry!
No, JWcult is in panic mode. I loved hearing about how they closed the branch in India, and told the workers to basically print their own material off the web, and fend for themselves!! This is VERY indicative of how they TRULY feel about the 3rd world peoples - "Be warm and well fed!!"

WT is really reaching for new heights. BTW, I don't think it will work much as I have known of a COBE that insisted on having the Book Study on Saturday morning followed by Field Service immediately afterwards. Why, do you ask Brother? It's so that I can have the rest of my Saturday to tend to my pet horse. This bully has probably been "retired" from his COBE-dom, but I doubt he will sell the horse to the glue factory. Geesh!

Hold Me-Thrill Me
Hold Me-Thrill Me 10 months ago
I was very tired today, still am. Age is getting to me. Well, when I'm tired I spend my time watching whatever I find interesting on the net, news etc. Then in some self-hate moment I went back to JW Broadcasting and watched a few videos there. I say self-hate because it hurts, sometimes it hurts too much.
At any rate, afterwards I'm thinking about the video you all were talking about here the one which will be shown at the Regional Convention where a child puts money into the contribution box rather than buy an ice cream with it. I started giving thought to that and could not stop thinking about it and then it hit me.
That video will be shown to millions of parents around the world. Millions of parents with millions of small children and grandchildren. What will the parents and children want to do after watching that video. It would be perfectly natural for children who have already come to love Caleb and Sophia, to want to put something in box in imitation of them. And the parents and grandparents will naturally feel pride, and be encouraged by the child, to give them a dollar or a coin to put in the box. In fact why not put in a dollar or coin every day of the Convention?
How much money even in coins or single dollars will have then be put in the contribution boxes by millions of children wanting to imitate Sophia? And this at conventions all around the world.
So my thinking kept on. Could it be that's why this video's release was kept for the Conventions around the world and was not first released on the JW dot org site? Could this actually be the plan? To get millions of children to put money in the boxes at the Conventions around the world? Can they really be that calculating, that cold, that evil?
Can this be true?
As I said I'm very tired. Not just physically but emotionally too. I'm ready to take a good look at my life and my religion. I'm ready to let the rain sink in. Ready to allow all this really soak in my bones and then see how it feels. Do I stay? Stay in my religion? Do I run for the door? Do I have the energy to continue to try and help the few I can at the KH or do I run away in horror at what is going on? They will see it in my face at the next meeting. I know it.
I have truly enjoyed my time here. I hope I've not hurt anyone's feelings or given cause for complaint if so I sincerely apologize. We may never meet but I sure hope you all will be happy and satisfied in this life and though many here do not believe I do hope to have a laugh and glass of wine with all here in the next life.
I'm not saying goodbye, I'm just not sure where I go from here and what I will do. I love my books perhaps I'll spend time getting to know them again or anew.
With much love and respect to all here,
Frank

I recoil in disgust too Frank every time I watch that video. It truly is disgusting. I know and the GB know as well how many children will see this video and give up their ice cream money. It's not enough they have to deprive the children of Christmas, birthday celebrations and normal childhoods but they take the money that these children would waste on a simple childhood pleasure of ice cream and no doubt use it to defend against the likes of Candace Conti. If their not evil I don't know who is.

While it is the plan to get every last cent from every child, things like this tend to be quickly forgotten by the sheeple. That's been my experience in 3 different congregations. You might be able to muster some high contributions a few months, but it would invariably drop off. But I've never been in a "rich congregation". Most of the dubs I knew made very little money and were already spending more than they were making. Few of the JW kids had any kind of part time jobs to make their own money because the cult demanded their evenings and weekends when most kids I grew up with were picking up some work.

I agree with Billy, the kids will remember the video for about 1 day and then life will get back to normal and their interest will shift to Jurassic World, the Ant Man, Minions, and all the other movies that will come out in the summer. And when they go to the movies, they will be thinking butter popcorn and not contributions at the Kingdom Hall. So I wouldn't get to worked up for it. Maybe what would help you more not to get so upset to stay away from the JW Broadcast and their videos and see something more uplifting.

I can see the parents of these kids encouraging their little darlings to mimic Sophia , giving them the money to drop in the contribution box , and when the kid asks for an ice cream the parent will remind them they gave their money to the K.H. contribution box.
Which one do you think will wake up first ? the parent or the kid.?
The parent is putting in extra dollars for their kids as well as their own contributions
The kids are now missing out on sweets and ice creams because they gave their pocket money to the K.H.

The GB really has reached the nadir in scum-bucketness, saying a little child should donate to them instead of buying an ice-cream.
Is there any more vile a religion except for the religious extremists in ISIS (no sports, no fun) for treating children so horribly than the JW's?
No birthdays, Easter, Christmas (accordingly viewed as a weirdo by schoolmates), no after-school sports, children forced to sit through dull, boring long meetings twice a week with no separate programme for the little ones like other churches do, babies and children to die rather than get an emergency life-saving blood transfusion, a paedophile in every congregation who is almost impossible to kick-out, must go door-knocking as a child magazine seller.....
You can tell the morality of any society or religion by how well it treats it's children, and JW's scrape the bottom of the barrel.
The GB make me puke!

I know, right? Short attention spans, but think of this. That video is going to be seen over and over by kids who'll be babysat with that video and others like it. They'll identify closely with Caleb and Sophia. Maybe the WT is trying to curb infant obesity. "Don't eat fatty icecream, give us your money instead, you'll get that dopamine release reward from doing as you've been brainwashed, child!" Bunch of greedy money grabbin GB now turned into drug pushers of feel good brain chemicals!
The craziness over the movie Frozen is ample proof. Four year olds singing along with Anna! Having the time of their lives. But, they're not being asked to give up their icecream money to a Real Estate Development and Publishing Empire masking as a religion.
When their minds are the most pliable and the rate of growth is the highest in brain development. Habits and future mind-sets are formed. This Contributions & No Icecream video is nothing short of blatant, infant brainwashing.

Hi Frank,
i wrote a long post earlier on - from my iphone, I then deleted as I thought I had submitted post to wrong topic / thread - darn  such are the perils of iPhones and those swiping screens!
Hey, take care dear man.
The gist of my original post was to say "1000 years are as 1 day and 1 day is as 1000 years" - so true. What is time? Really?
It's a journey. Keep on your course, keep true to what "adds up" - if we have been mislead, we won't have been the first.....at some point, we have to be true to God and not to men.
The organisation of "Jehovahs Witnesses" have one particularly major error - they claim exclusivity - and really, on the basis of what?
It's going to be OK - it really is.
You will feel hurt, exhausted and at times, broken perhaps with all this unravelling of what you believed to be true.
Take your time, please. 1000 years is as one day, one day is as 1000 years.
I don't believe "in God" anymore than I believe in my heartbeat.
There is something far greater than my puny belief going on here...
It's beyond believing, it's far more than that - this universe is not dependant on poorly written magazines and silly cartoons, terrible illustrations that do not dwell on what is loveable, chaste and all things that desire good.
When you repair, keep your heart towards being the hands and feet of a servant for the universe. The man Jesus, whether one believes he came from "above" or a different dimension, or was just a man like all of us - he has captured the hearts and attention of the world since his life course began - like no other.
For a reason.
Trust.

Frank,
Good luck on your sojourn. Exiting a high control group that you've been a part of for decades is difficult. It hurts like hell. And then you try to pick up the pieces, evaluate yourself and figure out what to do with all that you know, what you believe, what is true . .
We have been there. We understand. Please continue to contribute to this site.

Frank I hope you stick around to share your journey, debate with affection, disagree, grow and learn. I am fairly old (7th decade of life) and still get stuff wrong, still learning.
Rest now................... don't do anything harmful to yourself. When you try to re think everything you have ever believed in it's usually too much to get through at one time.
Thank you for your passionate take on the kids contributing at the assemblies I had not made that connection.......excellent point of view.

My sincere and deep appreciation to all who commented on this thread. I do not like where I am at the moment but hey one is never too old to learn and if need be change. I hope.
I made a decision this afternoon which happened to be one of the best afternoons I've had in a long time. My concern right now is for those among my generation the over 70 year olds who may be lurking here. We are the ones who remember and who in my opinion may be having a rather hard time because so little time is left for us to redirect or to truly decide what is best for ourselves and those we love.
I'm going to post something to my generation.
How I do love all those here who have shown love and kindness to those like me when we did not always agree or were a bit over the top in a religious sense.
Love and respect to all,
Frank

Frank, I can relate to your opening post. I and my wife are still in shock over how we now feel about the religion we once loved and gave our all for. I remember looking forward with great anticipation to district conventions, thinking each year we might be getting exciting new info and that each one might be the last. Wow - things really have changed!
I'm in the fifty-something group, and I remember the old days - the Franz/Knorr days - the deeper days - the exciting days - etc. But I know you remember those times better than I do. Please stay around here. I am extremely interested in the perspective, experience, and knowledge of your generation. We need you.

Most of us stay in our comfort zones. We are ill-equipped/fearful to do otherwise. We give up on being of benefit to others outside of our immediate friends/families, instead of teaching our families to grow up strong and to show genuine love to outsiders.
It becomes remarkable to us when we see three young men overcome a terrorist on a train in France. We call them heroes and set them up as examples for others to follow But listening to them tell it, they say it comes from their christian upbringing. Their hearts were courageous in time of need while others fled the scene and ran away. I think those taught by WT would run away. I think the problem is systemic. I see the GB shirk Christian duties to reach out to those in trouble, and by example, teach their followers to do the same...instead they teach to "wait on Jehovah" and give us your ice cream. The 3 terrorist-stoppers were a different type of Christian.
I think this is what JC looks at when judging us individually.

I haven't posted here in a few months and to be honest I haven't been lurking either. I hope everyone is doing well.😊 I wanted to take a minute to let you know how things have been the last few months.
Recently the brothers decided to FINALLY consider my letter of resignation. They met with me alone and I told them let them know why I have become inactive as a publisher and why I no longer wish to serve as an elder in the congregation. Overall the conversation with the body went well. I told them that I no longer trust God because of the loss of our children. I also told them that due to depression especially as the anniversary of the loss of our daughter Rose approaches, my depression has only gotten worse. They were actually ok with the wife and I going to grief support meetings which was kinda surprising. They still want me to serve but I told them I cannot and they accepted that. They also offered us a bible study which is a joke since I have no faith in God. My wife doesn't want a study either considering what she knows about the organization.
So things are progressing as good as they can at this point. We still attend some meetings but we are slowly fading away from them. Hopefully soon we can wash our hands of this filthy organization once and for all.
As for the depression, not sure how to deal with that. We talk openly about it but just getting up in the morning is a chore. I hate work, We plan to go away on vacation to commemorate our daughter as well as our sons loss. Hopefully we can find some healing in time?? Not really sure that'll ever happen.

Evolution vs Creationism.

perhaps this has been discussed in the past, but i can't help noticing that on many posts creation vs evolution seems to equal theist vs atheist.
granted, a creationist by defination would have to believe in a creator.
on the other hand, believing in evolution doesn't automatically make one an atheist, a small point perhaps, but i think it would be more accurate to say believer vs nonbeliever.. just sayin'..

it is interesting to me to see how even back in 2011 the witnesses knew about the "mind control" and "cult" concepts.
it is very likely that relatives or loved ones of jw's stumble upon hassan and read "mind control" and go and warn their loved ones.

my wife and i had business to attend to out of town today and i had thought if we made it back home in time, we'd go to the memorial.
as it turned out, we didn't get home in time and we missed it, but we had a real good talk with each other on the way home.
we are largely successful faders and at the very least, i like to try and make the memorial.

i don't know who the idiots are that write, or approve these songs, ( the creative team of lett and tomo??

there is a line in the first song ( # 147 ) that blatantly contradicts the wtbts dogma of the heavenly calling being an invitation as opposed to a sure thing.

A Troubling Culture: JW Group Think vs. Individual Critical Thinking
by MicaSmith in Watchtower Society / JW.org
» Beliefs, Doctrine & Practices

i had no idea that the resistance, governance, and duplicity i am experiencing as a jehovah witness is actually part of a bigger behavioral issue that permeates the entire jehovah witness culture.. i was troubled by the fact that many persons who have been crushed by the unfair practices of jw leadership described themselves as former members of the jw cult, and, or, apostates.
the latter bothered me to a greater degree because i felt the word apostate has been overused by jw's leadership and members.
anyone who disagrees with anything the governing body does or says is assigned the label an apostate.

TRUTH BE TOLD – FEATURE DOCUMENTARY EXPOSING THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES RELIGION – DEBUTS IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK MARCH 27th 2013
“If you do not serve Jehovah, you will die. Do you know anybody that does not serve Jehovah? Then let them know they will die.”
-Excerpt from TRUTH BE TOLD
NEW YORK, NY – February 18, 2013 - SMITHKRAFT PRODUCTIONS, LLC announced a Brooklyn, NY promotional screening of TRUTH BE TOLD. The one-off engagement will take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Cobble Hill Cinemas.
Show begins at 8pm.
TRUTH BE TOLD - a new feature-length documentary - lifts the veil on the seemingly benign Jehovah’s Witnesses religion to expose a profit-driven, isolationist culture characterized by fear, totalitarian corporate leadership, intellectual & spiritual intimidation, suspension of critical thinking, failed prophecies, doctrinal inconsistency and improper handling of physical and sexual abuse allegations within the church.
See former Jehovah's Witnesses candidly discuss growing up inside the religion. They reveal experiences including the effects of proselytizing door-to-door, shunning non-observant family and friends, suffering the discouragement of pursuing dreams like gaining a higher education, missing other societal holidays and customs. And more…
Ultimately the film reveals why Jehovah's Witnesses have the lowest retention rate of any religion with only 37% of those raised as Jehovah's Witnesses continuing their affiliation with the religion.
This exposé - the title of which refers to the Jehovah's Witnesses’ perception that their beliefs are 'the truth' - is the first feature-film directed by Gregorio Smith.
The March 27th screening is the first confirmed date for a limited multi-city East Coast promotional tour. Additional screenings are planned for Philadelphia and Boston.
Trailers, excerpts, production stills and other content are available on the official TRUTH BE TOLD website: www.hereliesthetruth.com

WE EXPECT A MOVIE REVIEW BY THE 28th LOL!!
Hillary
Hillary 3 years ago
I just got home from the movie. It was excellent. Not sensationalistic at all. It was 90 minutes long and there was a Q & A after the movie with the producer, Gregorio Smith. Some of the people who were featured in the movie were also in the audience. The movie featured 7 different people who grew up in the religion and told different aspects of their lives growing up and how they were affected by the religion. I was able to identify with 99% of what they were saying (I grew up around it from ages 9 through 19). The movie also had a good bit of humor in it, which I really liked. I don't want to give too much away in case people want to see it on their own but if you have any specific questions, please ask. Also, I was sitting in front of Rick Fearon and had a chance to talk to him a little bit.

I had the pleasure of conducting a telephone interview with "Truth be Told" filmmaker Gregorio Smith yesterday. He is a fascinating, intelligent person and has an intimate knowledge of the destructiveness the Watchtower society has wreaked upon people's lives due to shunning, the blood ban, etc.
Some two years in the making, this full-length documentary film entitled "Truth be Told" seeks to expose the Watchtower for what it is. A debut screening for the public will take place in Brooklyn New York on March 27, 2013. Other major cities will follow. A description of the film from his website follows:
-----
TRUTH BE TOLD – a new feature-length documentary – lifts the veil on the seemingly benign Jehovah’s Witnesses religion to expose a profit-driven, isolationist culture characterized by fear, totalitarian corporate leadership, intellectual & spiritual intimidation, suspension of critical thinking, failed prophecies, doctrinal inconsistency and improper handling of physical and sexual abuse allegations within the church.
See former Jehovah’s Witnesses candidly discuss growing up inside the religion. They reveal experiences including the effects of proselytizing door-to-door, shunning non- observant family and friends, suffering the discouragement of pursuing dreams like gaining a higher education, missing other societal holidays and customs. And more…
Ultimately the film reveals why Jehovah’s Witnesses have the lowest retention rate of any religion with only 37% of those raised as Jehovah’s Witnesses continuing their affiliation with the religion.
-----
We spoke for almost 45 minutes, and he candidly answered many questions about the film's content and distribution, his background being raised as a Jehovah's Witness, and more. I am currently working on integrating the interview into my next YouTube video, so stay tuned.
Let's all support this film! Like it on Facebook, email friends and family about it, etc. The potentially huge impact it could have on current JWs and the former JW community could be tremendous, not to mention the fact that millions of people that think that the JW religion is a quaint, harmless, little group will have their eyes opened to its destructive nature.

@ Splash - I understand that it has been and/or will be entered into film festivals.
@ Lost Generation - That would be huge if it did.
I'm pretty excited about this let's hope we can keep the momentum going because these indy projects usually take time and are not built in a day. He's been chipping away at this for the last two years already.

A great movie I hope and just at the right time, used like a chaser to wash down the memorial drivel by many bethelites I hope, I wonder if the Governing Body will send spys to see who attend?
I hope they have a long line of JWs waiting to see it, they should where bags over their heads and park far away so that GB spies don't catch them and bring them before a Judicial Meeting.

Hey I think a bunch of people wearing brown paper bags or nylons over their heads and memorial invitation with awake and watchtowers in hand, will make a good advertising statement about Governing Body inpired man hunts and the authoritarian nature of their rulership.

Thanks for the idea about the masks they look so much better than bags but you have to buy 300 minimum at .50 = $150.00 kinda pricey.
But I suppose one could find them at a costume store, if not at least something with a little more style than a bag.

I started my fade a the beginning of 2015, took counseling form a psychiatrist, and worked hard to get my family away from the cult. My marriage split and I now live alone with my 15 year old daughter.
She came to me last night and we started talking about JWs. She told me that the subject they are discussing at the moment in philosophy is "Cults". The kids were given a handout on how to identify a cult, she read the list to me and with every point she looked at me and said "That fits JWs".
She does not want anything to do with the cult, but never wanted me to talk about TTATT, so I never did, until last night. She asked very specific questions, which I answered. We talked about the money grab and the financing of the cult, and she then encouraged me to watch the "Ice-cream" video released at the convention this year. This is what really surprised me, although she has never been on any kind of forum discussing JWs or talked TTATT with anyone but me, she said that the GB are trying to get the ice-cream money from the kids, and I should watch the video.
I am really proud of my daughter.
I am sure there are many kids out there who have come to the same conclusion, but are trapped any cannot or are afraid to say anything.

I wished my son had that honesty. Even though he does not shun me because, as he himself puts it, he is human, the fear of losing his family (on my ex wife's side mostly) does not let him even take a closer look at anything.
Congratulations Driving Force to you and your daughter!

This has made my week 'Driving force'!
Such great news to know that young ones can see TTATT for themselves armed with just an analytical mind and the ability to put 1and 1 together!
I would be so proud of her if she were my daughter!
And well done for sharing information calmly and with dignity. Many of us would smother someone with too many points or facts too quickly if we sensed an opportunity...and that can make the listener scared....

I joined this site a few months ago 'tornintwo' because I had one child heavily in the org. and one child out. Now they are both out and it's great. I worry about them, they are experimenting as teenagers do, my 15 year old daughter now has a boyfriend - yikes! But its all NORMAL and that's what feels so good. My daughter is a smart kid too, she realised that she couldn't be part of a religion that in her words 'supports a global massacre'. She also noticed the oppression of women through the difficult 'separation' rules about divorce and remarriage.
So happy for you. Isn't it great they realised while they are young and can take advantage of all of the opportunities ahead of them, free of cult mind control.

It is great you are right.
The split with my wife is a sad thing, because a growing teenage girl needs her mother. But then a growing teenage girl is better off without a JW mother being around. The two do have contact, I make sure of that.

So happy for you. Isn't it great they realised while they are young and can take advantage of all of the opportunities ahead of them, free of cult mind control.
And just a reminder for the parents. It's great that they have supportive parents that are proud of them, and will help them explore these opportunities, guilt free.
I celebrate all you parents! Keep up the good work.

Jehovah’s people do not beg for money. […] “We have never considered it proper to solicit money for the Lord’s cause, after the common custom . . . It is our judgment that money raised by the various begging devices in the name of our Lord is offensive, unacceptable to him, and does not bring his blessing either upon the givers or the work accomplished.” – From: God’s Kingdom Rules, Page 196
This alone is enough to open the eyes of many members to see that Watchtower is not the one true religion. The only thing they still seem to hold to is that they don't pass an actual collection plate passed around to embarass members during the meeting. But the body of elders have the C.O. to do that to them and attempt to shame them to increase donations.
Ever since they took all the money from all the congregations, all the members have been hearing is how they have to cough up more.
Now the members have a whole bunch more to chew on. Cutting back on printing again, cutting back on Bethel workers again, money problems with construction.
Members are not going to all be fooled by this. Further, if they donate the monthly expenses at the Kingdom Hall, they won't put money in the Worldwide Work fund and they won't have more money to donate at the Assembly Hall.
But I want to just focus on the simple idea that they do indeed solicit funds now, contrary to what they have always said. They beg and coerce. They have regular articles on how the members can outright donate, put Watchtower in their will, send jewelry, name them as life insurance beneficiaries, etc. etc. etc. They have addressed this issue on jw. org and even have a cartoon about children giving up their ice cream money.
Notice how they still lean on the same claims: http://wol.jw.org/de/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1102012165
Who are they fooling?

Heaven, yes- along with a GB member telling everyone they are spending more than they make. (But not in those kind of terms, more like "expenses exceed donations.")
stuckinarut2, sure. Like giving financial reports at assemblies where they have set the "cost" of the assembly so high and report a deficit NO MATTER WHAT.
sparrowdown, I may run with such a statement anytime money comes up. Good thought.

I just found online this WT official and certified solicitation for money presented to family heads of Jehovah's Witnesses. This campaign of begging for money took place a couple of years back. I understand that some of the JW families hardest hit with this nagging assault for money were Ventura County, Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County and San Diego County in Southern California.

Page one:
ToesUp, it's sad that many of them wouldn't recognize your comment as sarcasm.
JW GoneBad, it is stuff like that sheet that shows they are using (in their own words from the opening quote) "the various begging devices in the name of our Lord" and that to such a Lord, it would be "offensive, unacceptable to him, and does not bring his blessing..."
cognac, they told congregations to set a monthly amount and suggested ways that it should not be small. They have just asked for something like 2 thousand dollars from an average sized congregation for the C.O. expenses. They have had videos about contributions. The May 2015 episode of JW Broadcasting had Stephen Lett revealing a shortfall between projected income and expenditures for the forthcoming fiscal period. As part of the 2015 program of conventions for Jehovah’s Witnesses, a video was released that portrays a young girl holding a coin in her hands while in a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, imagining buying an ice cream cone after their meeting. She then sees her mother putting money in a contribution box at the Kingdom Hall, and rethinks her plans for her coin. She envisions new Kingdom Halls being built along with JW literature being produced, and then happily puts her own money in the contribution box as well.
I see these things as "all the members have been hearing is how they have to cough up more."
Stealth, it goes back to George Carlin: Jehovah "loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!”

Start Page two replies:
Simon, I agree. I will tie your thought in with Mad Irishman's thought.
The average member can give what he wants and nobody will say anything personally to him. It's a beautiful thing, but at the same time that member is bombarded by all those things telling him that the congregation isn't donating enough, the attendees at the assembly are not donating enough, the need is great and the members are not showing their love and faith in Jehovah, but are taking too many vacations or wanting nice things in their home when they don't need them as badly as the Governing Body needs a heated pool in that cold NY state climate.
Plus Mad Irishman, YES- as a member of the body of elders, I felt "coerced." We had shortfalls and they asked each elder to give a set portion of that if they could (and you better back up your "I can't do it.") As a member, after dropping twenty bucks in the box at the assembly, then hearing how they are still several thousand dollars short, I felt coerced to drop in more. Maybe nobody would know, but members are trained to know that Jehovah knows you can skip a decent restaurant tonight and settle for less while out of town for the assembly.
Phizzy, He's just no good with money. Somehow, He just can't handle money.

I have a question about some of the real estate being sold. In 2013, they made an agreement to sell the below properties:
"The properties, familiar to Witnesses from Society publications, include the five factory buildings 117 Adams Street; 175 Pearl Street; 55 Prospect Street; 81 Prospect Street and 77 Sands Street. The tallest of the newly-sold buildings, 90 Sands Street, is a 30-story residential building completed in 1990 to house up to 1000 Bethel workers and visitors."
However; completion of this sale isn't until 2017. So, have they already received the 375 mil or are they not getting that til 2017?

That's what I would of though. That means come 2017 they are going to have 375 mil freed up..
I did hear that they were able to start utilizing 4 of the properties late 2013. Wouldn't that have freed up a good portion of it then?
Sorry, not sure how this works.

OTWO - I was hoping that there would be some normal type of protocol, idk...
Vidiot
Vidiot 5 months ago
The thread subject reminds me of another little epiphany I had towards the beginning of my fade...
x
...I had realized that the WTS had - repeatedly over the years - fought to protect itself.
Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't be particularly significant, but it occurred to me that if a religion felt that compelled to fight so hard for its own survival, it must (at least on a subconscious level, regardless of how certain its members are of its legitimacy) feel that that survival must therefore be at risk.
However, if it were truly "God's Earthly Organization", it should not feel this way.
In fact, the thought should never even occur to such an Organization (consciously or otherwise)... it should, in fact, feel completely at ease and confident in its survival, no matter what.
x
The simple fact that the WTS fears for its own survival suggests that its survival is, in fact, at risk.
And if its survival is at risk, it therefore cannot be "God's Earthly Organization", because if it really was, nothing could truly threaten it.

Well, with faith being such an exact science and all, if they go under it shows they are chosen because they are being "persecuted for my sake" and if their shameless "show me the money" stunt works then they are chosen because Jehovah saved their asses from the fiscal abyss.

Vidiot, I always felt that elders and the organization should protect the children or support the innocent victims when an issue like sexual abuse comes up, and that Jehovah would protect the reputation of the organization if there was a pedophile or serial killer among the members. I think I am saying something along the same lines:
If it were truly "God's Earthly Organization" then survival should not be at risk.
cognac, they will indeed argue such a way. They would conjure up images of prostitutes and cigarettes and bling and shiny objects and the "air" of the world in Satan's power. Still, it would seem Jehovah will make sure the magazines are paid for if He wants them out there.
sparrowdown, I think we are used to that. Good things prove they are right. Bad things prove they are right. Everything proves they are right.

In the u.k you have to pay a licence every year for the privilege of having a television in your home. I remember one time you had to do the same if you owned a dog (Dog licence). I think the WTBTS should bring out a CART LICENCE, shall we say $50 per cart every year. Yes you have to pay for the privilege of sitting on your arse for a few hours a week. Make the pioneers pay for it as their the ones using it the most.
What do you think, should I send my idea to them?

Sabin, I think the organization is registered as a charity in thd UK - as such the JWs cannot be taxed for any of their public "work". Besides, taxing the paraphernalia religious groups use in public would create a huge legal backlash.

I guess we can agree to differ, but I personally found the new Memorial songs (147, 149) to be very good, at least from a musical perspective.

I simply couldn't find the melody. The refrain made a little more sense, but overall it's going to take a lot more practice.

Ha Ha, well " The Book of Mormon" is a very successful West End, Musical, so why not turn the Memorial in to a Musical:-
The Memorial: The most over-hyped musical on " Gods" earth, available at all reputable Kingdom Halls, this hughly popular show is attended worldwide by millions each year, some call it " Why are you refusing Jesus blood?". Anyway one thing is for sure this exsiting show has and will continue to run for many, many, more years to come...Amen and " Rubadab".
The Rebel.
p.s : no offense meant to those that take the memorial seriously.

I, a musician, was pleasantly surprised. The orchestration was impressive. It was necessary, of course, to have those handouts.

The orchestration had some grandeur too it, admittedly, the melodies no negatives, but the "lift" was not at the scale that the old masters, Bach , Haydn provided, religiously.

The two songs were not bad, comparing to many they have tried.
Guitarists probably noticed a misprint on the second song handout, where they put 'capo 3' should have been 'capo 1'

i don't know who the idiots are that write, or approve these songs, ( the creative team of lett and tomo??
) but they suck!!
there is a line in the first song ( # 147 ) that blatantly contradicts the wtbts dogma of the heavenly calling being an invitation as opposed to a sure thing.

all the different congregations around the world hold it at similar local times but they all effectively are at different times relative to each other ... so why does the time matter?.
why the almost superstitious "oh, it must be after sundown".
cause it's not sundown everywhere that second.. god knew the earth was round ... right?.

i had no idea that the resistance, governance, and duplicity i am experiencing as a jehovah witness is actually part of a bigger behavioral issue that permeates the entire jehovah witness culture.. i was troubled by the fact that many persons who have been crushed by the unfair practices of jw leadership described themselves as former members of the jw cult, and, or, apostates.
the latter bothered me to a greater degree because i felt the word apostate has been overused by jw's leadership and members.
anyone who disagrees with anything the governing body does or says is assigned the label an apostate.

by its own mandate in the founding of the watchtower magazine in 1879, it was set up to proclaim the arrival of jc in the heavens according to the then currently failed adventist claim for jesus' return the year 1874.. russell's catalyst for all that came afterwards was his pet claim (in so many words) "aha but jc did in fact come... but came invisibly!

I haven't posted here in a few months and to be honest I haven't been lurking either. I hope everyone is doing well.😊 I wanted to take a minute to let you know how things have been the last few months.
Recently the brothers decided to FINALLY consider my letter of resignation. They met with me alone and I let them know why I have become inactive as a publisher and why I no longer wish to serve as an elder in the congregation.

Every so often the brothers come across as human. I'm sorry for your depression but, of course, trying to continue with the congregation will only make things worse.Faking stuff never helps. I hope you find some joy, or contentment with other things that are actual gifts of creation. Good to hear your voice again.

It's hard to get a feel for overall attendance from solitary data points.
Even locally year over year attendance is hard to extract meaning from. Typically congregations alternate between an "early" memorial and a "late" one, if they share a Kingdom Hall. The "early" one is always better attended.
So if last year was an "early" one and attendance was 140 and this year was a "late" one and attendance was 120, it's hard to extract any meaningful info from that.

perhaps this has been discussed in the past, but i can't help noticing that on many posts creation vs evolution seems to equal theist vs atheist.
granted, a creationist by defination would have to believe in a creator.
on the other hand, believing in evolution doesn't automatically make one an atheist, a small point perhaps, but i think it would be more accurate to say believer vs nonbeliever.. just sayin'..

it is interesting to me to see how even back in 2011 the witnesses knew about the "mind control" and "cult" concepts.
it is very likely that relatives or loved ones of jw's stumble upon hassan and read "mind control" and go and warn their loved ones.

my wife and i had business to attend to out of town today and i had thought if we made it back home in time, we'd go to the memorial.
as it turned out, we didn't get home in time and we missed it, but we had a real good talk with each other on the way home.
we are largely successful faders and at the very least, i like to try and make the memorial.
