This a question more out of curiosity, because we have not stepped foot in a KH in 3 years.
How is the attendance at the meetings/assemblies? I know the answer will vary due to location.
Are you (especially Elders) receiving any notification or communication from Bethel or CO's that there is an upsurge of people that are simply disappearing or out right dis associating?
Thanks, in advance, for your feedback!

This past summer convention we usually had attendance of 13k+, last year it was 8k, not sure if it was due to people sent elsewhere but it was very noticeable, only a limited english Regional conventions at this location I believe only 4-5 weekends, past would be 8-10 weekends

The throngs are definitely diminishing. Within the next 3 years I think it will really be noticeable. The ARC findings as we speak are causing many to pack their bags. It will take time for this to have its full impact.

I'd like to know the answer to that also. After all, in just the last 25 days there have been 95 new ones registered at this site. That doesn't count lurkers....................things are not as they seem in JEHOVAH'S WITNESS LAND!

Not a big drop in attendance but the people don't give an answer and look asleep since the CLAM started. It's so boring.

Our local KH attendance has been consistent for a long time now. Not great but steady. Our circuit assembly is always packed. The issue is that most of the elders at our hall are old though. In 20 years most of them will be dead.

Most jws are desperate, desperately broke and no hope except of a new system. No friends out side the Borg so really nowhere to go. They hang on out of this desperation and so people don't leave in huge numbers like we would hope. Its the trickle effect, new ones leave after seeing the love bomb where off. Kids leave that are driven, the non driven stay. People who are treated badly also leave.
I think times will get rougher for the Borg and theyll make adjustments to try to stop the loses but in the end it will make it worse. Their doing some of this now but reality of the world is waking up even the stupid ones. Evolution was proven a fact back in 2004 so people are leaving religion in mass.

In my congregation I believe there are 52 publishers give or take a few. During the weekly meeting perhaps half of that number show up, yes half. Weekend meeting averages about 85. People love Sunday church!
The hall can easily seat 130 so yeah even before I became very irregular I noticed the sharp decline.
The few times I've visited on the weekend I can't recognize half the people. So who knows if they are asking other congos to make it look more impressive. Sounds far-fetched but it is the WT we are dealing with here.

Over the last two years, slightly lower attendances, slightly more lethargic attitude; lower baptisms this last year at circuit days. Young ones walking out the door by fading. One older lady faded. One older lady walking out by DA'ing.
Our publisher count remains static but only because about 8 publishers have moved in.
One baptism - a young lad who is now about 17 and he was baptised in the great flush of 2014 and is now not seen and on the way to inactivity!

With teeming and ladling and people moving around it is hard to tell but I haven't seen a genuinely new person off the street who makes it to full dubness for as long as I can think. Maybe people are not as dullible as they used to be.

The hall I have to go to is always half empty. I think a lot of people make an excuse and just dial in .... no new ones to see to justify the number of "studies" they are claiming. Absolutely no energy whatsoever.
From what I hear the circuit assembly does better, but I suspect a lot of people are not going to the summer "regional" convention - at least not every day. Easy to say you went (have to travel far out of town where we are) but not really go. Who would know? It's not like anyone is really talking about what they heard that was so wonderful after the fact.
And the same problem IgnoranceIsBliss mentioned earlier, most of the elders are old, the two young ones lacking speaking talent, so I don't know what will happen to this group in a few years.

I started noticing, even before waking up, that baptisms at cc had declined a great deal. We used to have 25-30 per convention now is more like 6-7, and they're mostly children of Jdubs. I'm in the Spanish speaking circuit, where we had rapid growth about 15-20 years ago, not the case anymore, there has not been a new cong in our area in the last 10 years.

One of the last stage assignments I had before walking away from it all, at the assembly day, there was ZERO baptized.
It had all of our attention backstage.
The speaker had to give the baptism prayer for NO ONE!

Never seen that before.
I've been away from the meetings since 2013 and I noticed the growth was not substantial and the attendance in Napa was around 65-75% with very few studies attending the meetings.
Four congregations merged into three around five years ago.
It gave the impression that attendance was "up", but that didn't last.
There have been many deaths in the last five years, locally.
At least ten, several being Elders or MS.

Everyone sees it, but few inside even notice.

The attendance at our Spanish congs has gone down. The young people are not into it at all; they are busy with their studies and totally aloof about Org stuff.

Where I live, for the most part, things appear to be the same mostly, no real growth, but no real decline. Everything seems to be holding steady for the most part. Most new people that come into the congregation are really just people from other congregations moving into ours. There is no real growth happening in my congregation, and even though I might be a little biased at wanting to see a decline, I can't help but think that at least morale is declining, if not actual attendance.
But if you pushed me, I would lean more to say that it "looks" as if our attendance is declining more than rising, at least for the midweek meeting. Sundays always seem to look steady for the most part. But the midweek meeting is definitely a lonely place sometimes. I honestly think that all the new changes with the CLAM are turning off most people in our congregation, rather than actually getting people excited, other than the Uber-dubs. I think part of it stems from the fact that all of our BOE and all our MS's are technologically challenged for the most part. So when it comes to using video presentations, they always seem to botch it up. Sometimes, it takes more time to get the videos started than to actually watch the videos. I think it makes everyone feel "behind the times", and only adds to the discomfort of living in a whole "new world" that no one is really comfortable with.
To add to it, our BOE is really unorganized and always seem to be doing things at the last minute, which gives off the appearance that they are lazy, since they never seem to do anything on time. I think most of the congregation is actually quite frustrated with them. I mean, no one likes to be called at the last minute to prepare for a part in two days, just because the elder in charge of assignments had not gotten around to making the list on time. And by the time they finally put up the list of assignments, there is only two weeks left on it, and everyone knows next month will just be the same.
So, in our congregation at least, while attendance might be holding steady for the most part (if not declining a bit), morale at least is at an all time low, and it's mostly due to the incompetence of our BOE. If I had to guess, though, I would think most other congregations feel the same, especially those with older BOEs who are struggling to keep up with all the changes and "technological advances". The BOE frustrations eventually get mirrored by their respective congregations, and as sad as it is to see other people's morales decline, there is a part of me that smiles on the inside, hoping it's the catalyst to their eventual and painful waking up.

Spanish congs are still lively in the sense that we are always celebrating something. Every weekend, for real! When it gets quiet, we do gatherings at parks and dinner parties for no other reason than just eat, play games and dance.
Hell, it helps pass the time.

I am still attending. I speak with many about this in general. It seems that they are resentful since the end never came and they feel lied to. There are at least four people in the Congo who will tell almost anyone that. We have 45-50 people for the mid-week meeting 70-75 on Sunday. This has slipped quite a bit over the past ten years or so. At the circuit assembly and special assembly day there are between one and four people baptized regularly. Most seem to be believing children. There are little or no converts in the English congregations anymore. Hours and hours of field service, little in the way of results. Mostly "not at homes". The Elders do not have the competency of prior generations. The meetings bore almost everyone to tears. Only the older Sisters say something pleasant to the Elders after the meetings. It is conspicuous that many of the members avoid them and just smile and speak nicely to them when they have to. The changing doctrines are getting people now, more so than before. I don't think fifteen percent of the Publishers can recite what the Generation now means. All the kids have left. Only some small minor children attend. Teenage and above are gone. It is almost amazing. Most of the people have no children in the religion anymore. There is a definite and palpable decline not only the number of members, but in attitude and energy. It's sad really. People can only take so much. They feel taken advantage of, as they tell me.

Show me a JW who can comfortably explain even the old 1914 doctrine, let alone the new version, and I'll show you someone almost out the door.
\It is ironic that, those who have studied the different versions of this far-fetched doctrine and could potentially explain it clearly also seriously doubt it.

The Spanish JWs in my area are clueless and careless about the overlapping gen crap. Most are in it for the community/association. When it comes to prophesy and anything the least bit complicated, their eyes glaze over. 🤔

"Most are in it for the community/association."
I think this is true of a good majority of JW's. The ones that I am still close with do not have any other relationships outside of the cult. I actually sit there and listen to them bash and trash talk the "one and only true religion" and then 1 millisecond later say "but it's still the truth." I REALLY have to bite my tongue and stop myself from saying....WTF!

For many of us inside, the 'alternative' is not pretty either, so we will stick with what we know. There is this crazy Spanish saying that goes something like "better a bad one you know than a good one you have to get to know" (mejor un malo conocido que un bueno por conocer).
JWs are a nice, peaceful, happy, harmless bunch for the most part. So....... let the band play on.

FREDDO:
I am glad those two older ladies are out and bravo to the one who disassociated herself! I have to assume these are ladies were alone in the religion (either single, widowed or divorced).
These women probably saw the handwriting on the wall that not only is the religion CRAP - but they are being targeted for their money and being asked to do favors for all the users, not to mention having the newer influx of "disturbed" individuals inflicted on them!
Whether this is by design or default, I certainly wasn't tolerating this garbage and this is the major reason I got out of there!
Yeah, it's a wonder the JW religion can retain anybody anymore!

And because they don't know anyting else. A lot of them now (I imagine) are of a 'certain age' - spent the last 40 years ias a witnes and that is their full social circle. To move away from that would be a Very Scary Thing.
I think that is one of the reasons so many witnesses struggle to change congregations.

"To move away from that would be a Very Scary Thing."
The heads of this cult have done a bang up job on scaring the hell out of every JW. They have painted the world a very evil place. There is good in the world, bad in the world. There is good in the cult, bad in the cult. I agree. I have met some really nice and genuine non JW's. They treat me better than my immediate family. Sad that I can say that.
JW's are missing out on some nice folks. What a sad/limited life.

After leaving the Jehovah’s Witness religion, we had the opportunity to read Emotional Blackmail by Susan Forward, Ph.D. We could relate to the stories she discusses in the book and could make a direct correlation to our lives as Jehovah’s Witnesses. While the experiences are somewhat different from what we encountered in our personal lives, we could readily comprehend how individuals use emotional blackmail to make others develop fear, obligation and guilt in order to manipulate them into furthering their own agenda.
This podcast explains in great detail how Jehovah’s Witnesses live in the FOG. No one can dispute these comments as every current and former Witness is most familiar with the culture of the organization!
This podcast references the experience of a sister that lived in an Iron Lung and her experience was used as a tool to measure the faith of Jehovah’s Witnesses with otherwise good health that did not live up to the daily demands of the Watchtower. You can reference her experience in the January 22, 1993 Awake! magazine “Not Even an Iron Lung Could Stop her Preaching“.

I obtained a copy of Susan Forward's book in the early 2000s - and that's where I first read about FOG (Fear, Obligation and Guilt) which permeates all kinds of toxic relationships, including with family members, "friends", and, of course, organizations where FOG becomes cruelly insidious. JWs' overtures to you reek of emotional blackmail and implied threat.
An excellent book that had a profound impact upon me and led to my kicking emotional blackmail to kingdom come. It provided the skills and tools to navigate my way through the conversational minefields used by those who habitually - and likely without thinking - use manipulation of FOG to drive home their dubious points.

This was a good listen.
If you have about 15 minutes, it's a good reminder about how controlling the JWs are through seemingly subtle things that make people feel guilty or obligated.
No gun to the head necessary; they are able to get compliance through the self-policing of members through fear, obligation and guilt.

Years ago, when we first stopped going, at the behest of my mother, the CO knocked at the door. My wife answered and during the conversation the CO pointed to our kids, who were small at the time, and said 'think of your children, they'll die at armageddon'.
Emotional blackmail at its finest. I won't say what my wife's reply was - it wasn't pretty

I haven't had time to listen (supposed to be working) but what a great way to explain it - FOG. I already used this as a "reasoning point" with someone this morning. Hopefully that will get some mental gears moving.
When you realize that's the glue that holds the whole thing together it's just......disgusting.

I saw through the emotional blackmail and thankfully didn't buy it. I am specifically referring to their urging people to do ridiculous things like quit their job and pioneer. They were counting on people wanting to be seen as "spiritual" and other buzz words.
I had to work and support myself so I had to disregard this nonsense...Some brother has a full-time job, that's okay. I had a full-time job, that was not okay. They were pushing poverty for single women.
I guess they wanted us to be sitting in the back of the hall impoverished, taking meds for depression and being targeted by users to do favors. Guess what? I rejected this hell!
I can't imagine anybody consciously wanting this evil outcome to happen to single women...because if they DID, the law of Karma should pay them back!
I'm so grateful I had the courage to go against the flow in this hateful religion!

My sister call me today and told me she found this book in her mail slot and she wondered if
it was a book published by the WT. LOL
I told her if this book was published the WT you would know, JW.org would be on the front page.
But I was wondering if anyone received this book in the mail. She checked with her neighbors and
no one received this book. She don't know if it came with the mail or someone dropped it off.

Years ago the SDA actually canvassed my neighborhood. Going door to door talking to neighbors, leaving literature. It's possible it was just a random placement. They publish very inexpensive editions of Ellen White's books for such a purpose.

Maybe it is an aquaintance of your sister , a SDA who thought she/he might " witness" to her , after all they do a similar work.
From time to time they do D2D work as well but not on the scale of the J.W.`s , as do the Mormons who go from D2D as well .I have even known some Baptist churches doing it.

Since the memorial is coming up soon and its about time for me to go shopping for a new memorial ( aka easter) dress, I've realized what the memorial really is for us teenage girls, a beauty pageant! The memorial is the day I spend painting my nails, curling my hair, and carefully applying makeup because my mother says I have to "represent Jehovah" and look my best. In reality its just to impress the newcomers and to compete with the other girls. Have any of you ever experienced this? I don't understand why jws make a such a big deal about appearances, isn't Jehovah supposed to care about what's on the inside?

Spiral
Spiral 17 hours ago

When I was growing up it was never a big deal, but now it seems to be a fashion show. Which is soooo contrary to what the "Memorial" is supposed to be about it's laughable.
I'd suggest black nail polish to bridge the gap.

BlackWolf , that just about sums it up for all Convention appearances as well doesn`t it ?
It all comes down to a fashion parade among all the chicks to see if they can impress all the horny young guys , and vice/versa .
The event has nothing to do with the spiritual aspects of the meeting ,it`s just an avenue to put yourself out their for all to see as you parade yourself around the grounds
Hey don`t get me wrong , the guys are just the same , Conventions are like a meat market , a calf sale ,what`s available , and does he/she meet with my , or my parents approval as a suitable mate.?

Oh yes Black Wolf, I remember those days crystal clear. I was always the one who pushed the limit on my dresses. Skirts above the knees *gasp*.
Some of the worst are middle aged sisters who are trying to prove they still "got it" by showing up in a second hand store prom dress. Oh what these eyes have seen. Wish I could wash them out with soap:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
TBH the sisters looking like frumpy Amish are no better. I'm tempted to show up in a pantsuit this year. Maybe in a skinny suit!

We had a sister, years ago, that told us her husband "did not allow her to buy a new dress. That would be too much like following the Easter traditions and copying the world."
He may have been right. It is kinda like the JW Easter. The disturbing thing is her husband "told her". My husband would be wearing a frying pan over his head. lol

Yes, so true, especially about the middle aged sisters with their super high heels and above the knee skirts.

I remember when I was a kid, all the girls at school would talk about their new "Easter shoes and coat", my mom used to buy me the same but I noticed that they were purchased so they could be worn at the memorial, like all the other little girls my age in the congregation.

Yes, the memorial, assemblies, etc., are nothing more than fashion shows for us women. Hell, we are not good for much inside this men's Org. We have settled for looking pretty.
Talk about that, I still need to go shopping as my outfit is not complete just yet.😜

I agree, its kind of depressing how women in the org really seem to base their worth off of appearance. I know a lot of sisters with eating disorders, myself included. But I guess like you said we dont have much else to focus on since we don't get any privileges in the Cong like the men do.

Jookbeard now that's a classy look I could get behind! I also like the high chest cinch....... Dude no way you'd show a nipple erection when the sisters parade into the KH.......... this guy has everything covered.

With humility consider others superior to you.—Phil. 2:3.

We appreciate it when people are straightforward yet tactful when approaching us. How can we extend the same courtesy to those we meet in our ministry? In many territories, we need to make the purpose of our visit clear to the householder. True, we have valuable information the householder does not have, but suppose we did not really introduce ourselves and merely began our presentation abruptly with a question like this: “If you could solve any problem in the world, what would it be?” We know that the purpose behind such a question is to find out what is on the person’s mind and then direct the conversation to the Bible. However, the householder might wonder: ‘Who is this stranger, and why is he asking me this question? What is this all about?’ So we should try to put the householder at ease. How can we do so? The key is to adjust our presentation to the way that people in our area likely want to be approached. w14 5/15 2:14-16

What I noticed immediately is that the comments on the text are not even in harmony with what the text says. In fact, it is the complete opposite! Congrats once again to the WT writing committee for taking a scripture and completely twisting & misapplying it!
What does it actually mean to consider another person as superior? We treat them with utmost respect, listen to what they have to say, and readjust our thinking if necessary
Since the comments highlight the ministry but do not properly apply the words of the text to it, I came up with some questions which do:
1. Do JW's actually consider the householder to be superior to them or is it the other way around?
2. If the householder says that they are busy or have just woken up, do JW's show understanding & leave or do they try to stall the householder further?
3. Do JW's humbly listen to what the householder has to say or are they just waiting to continue what they have to say?
4. Do JW's always listen patiently while the householder is talking or do they at times rudely interrupt the householder?
5. Do JW's humbly & graciously concede if the householder brings up a valid point which they are unable to refute or do they arrogantly insist that they are right or try to downplay what the householder has brought up?
6. Do JW's make fun of the householders behind their backs after they have left the door, criticising them for their beliefs / non-belief or other things?
7. Do JW's judge householders, saying that certain ones are goats which would be destroyed at Armageddon?
8. Do JW's have a callous attitude, talking about which of the houses in the territory they would like to have for themselves after Armageddon when the householders have been destroyed?
9. Which is more superior to JW's - "saving the lives" of the householders / getting their hours in / status? If report slips were done away with, pioneer ranks abolished, & preaching is not made compulsory for all JW's, would most JW's still be going out in service?
10. If the householder accepts a Bible study, makes progress, gets baptized, then one day chooses to leave the religion as there are some things which they cannot believe in, will their decision be respected or will they be ostracised & shunned?
So do JW's really apply the words found in today's text? You be the judge!

Hi Divergent,
9. Which is more superior to JW's - "saving the lives" of the householders / getting their hours in / status? If report slips were done away with, pioneer ranks abolished, & preaching is not made compulsory for all JW's, would most JW's still be going out in service?
I like them all & they are all true.... but # 9 is what I truly believe..Take away all those titles, most of them couldn't stay...They would do nothing for Jah unless they could count it....
When they go door to door they feel superior, yet they always have this default button to make them look humble..NOT...they are the furthest from being humble...they have all the answers. Basically they are a judgmental lot.
# 4 Do JW's always listen patiently while the householder is talking or do they at times rudely interrupt the householder...Majority of witnesses are not good listeners at all only if you have a sob story...always have to have the last word...you can say, I know God's name is Jehovah, the witness will answer, yes but did you know.....No matter what you say, even if you agree...they have to have the last word...They are always in a hurry if you want to talk to them...ever been at the hall & you want to say Hi, to someone, they are busy looking to speak to someone has a title or just to talk to a brother....(single sisters, just to get their man-on).
They have no respect for anyone that isn't a JW. Yet, they say, God is not partial, yet they are....only associate with their own, but say we preach to everyone...we don't get a chance to preach....that's why we have the new meeting books...we get a chance to show our skills on stage because we never get a chance to do our presentations at the door. It sharpens our skills for..............( I don't know because no one is home now a days, they are at Home Depot).
Somehow I'm a JW, but don't fit in....not that I'm trying....I do what I do...I go out in the ministry, spend time with the friends, go to my meetings, do my lessons...& live my life...I think most of them see I'm confident, yet not overly, just me...no looking for any approval. I feel good about what I do....& If God is looking at me...Hope he is saying..."WELL DONE"....could care less what man says...he can't even direct his own steps.
Tor
