The producer is an exJW from Canada.
The film has gone into pre-production this month - March - and it goes to camera in October.
Thanks for posting, ILove. I am quite looking forward to seeing this film - it should be a good one.

Sad to say, I don't see a big audience for this. The public really doesn't care about JWs because they are such a minority of the population, a nuisance (and mostly weird).
JW's, of course, will be told to boycott it.
Only family members who have been affected by a JW refusing transfusion will have any remote interest.
But we can hope...........

There will be a lot of interest in the Christian "community", though. My impression is these kinds of movies are not necessarily produced to be blockbusters but they are usually aimed at more general Christian audiences.
I'd also assume funding is provided by Christian outreach groups (I'll check it out when I can see the youtube video at home - I'm at my workplace where access is limited.).

The only reason that "the public" shows little interest is simply because they are ignorant of the the full implications of the WT's blood ban.
I used to think the same as you, Doc, until I started talking to non-JWs about the blood ban and it has been surprising how many people are totally unaware of how much this issue has affected those affiliated with the JWs. The "public" that I have spoken to about the blood issue have been horrified when they learn how many JWs die each year from refusing blood.
They have simply shown no interest because they know nothing about it. This film will change that.

An interview with the producers of the film "Blood" - Alex Riker and Jason King - where the background of the film is discussed.
It is long - I am listening to it right now...Alex and Jason give lots of details about their JW experiences and, in addition to the film, they discuss many aspects of the religion, including child abuse.

Filmmaker’s mission to turn camera on religion

“People stay in this faith not because they want to, or because they believe it,” he explained. “It’s because they’re afraid of being excommunicated, of losing their families, their friends . . . I want to hope this will help change things.”

I think it's great. If it helps a few leave the religion or helps a few decide not to join, then its a success in my book!

You might be surprised DOC..if its a good film with good direction, storyline AND packs an emotional punch, it could do really well. After all, many small independent films with even smaller niche storylines have been global successes! Let's hope so!

steve2: I'd also assume funding is provided by Christian outreach groups...
The film is not being funded by Christian outreach groups.
I checked with the producer, Alex, as to where the funding is coming from and his response was that it has been, so far, self funded. Lol! He said that he sold all his "worldly" possessions in order to get the film off the ground.
The good news is that there are some potential investors on the horizon. And they are not Christian outreach groups.
Dio: .....if its a good film with good direction, storyline AND packs an emotional punch, it could do really well.
From what I have heard so far, this film has the potential to deliver exactly that.

Zeb: I feel their energy might have been better directed to the recent ulcer opened on paedophiles'
Zeb, this film has been in the works for years. Personally, I am over the moon that this long neglected issue - the blood ban - is finally getting some attention.
The child abuse issues will get their spotlight some day but it won't be getting it with this much needed film. The pedophile problem is not the only problem that deserves to be scrutinized.
The energy and commitment that has already gone into this film deserves respect, not criticism.

Well it's not going to be the same audience of popcorn scarfing numbskulls that you see at the local movie theater, but there is a large audience that is much more evolved and that has special interest in indie movies, which is what this will be.
These folks are interested in learning about different subjects as long as it's done in an interesting way.

According to yearbooks, Sri Lanka had a respectable 3% growth last year, and 4% the year before.
WTBS must still be having cashflow issues. When a large corporation is having cashflow issues, the outer branches typically suffer the most. Sri Lanka is probably an outer branch as far as Brooklyn is concerned.

I have the feeling that countries are now on their own financially. If a branch can't manage with their own contributions and be at least self-sufficient, then they'll have cut back somehow to make end meet. This would explain the selling Kingdom Halls in lands with some growth.

I have the feeling that countries are now on their own financially.
So much for "international brotherhood". They tell developed countries, "donate to help build in developing countries." They tell the developing countries, "you can't support these buildings so we're selling them."
Where has all the money gone from the branch, Brooklyn, and other property sales as they keep demanding more donations and making more cutbacks?

I've been thinking that. That's why I check this site daily - to keep up with latest news.
There is a similar situation with the company I work for. There are problems and things going on behind the scenes, and upper management tries to make it seem as though all is OK. I check my work email daily for announcements, etc. I think there are going to be major company changes soon, including layoffs.
I really believe that major things are going on behind the scenes in JW land. I still think that JWdom is going to go into decline soon if it hasn't already.

Also, what about the expression that was well used throughout the 80's: "the new world order" or "new order"!
That too has been quietly shelved!
(apparently I was told that the music group "new order" got their name from this as one of them was raised as a witness...perhaps someone can confirm this?)

Actually it was the other way around. "Joy Division" became "New Order", one of the greatest bands of the 80s, but one of the most boring, live.
I think the phrase "New World Order" came from a HG Wells book.

The WTS has used many phrases over the years
New World Society when my mother came in
new system (or system of things)
new world (up to 2012) or new order (but not new world order...only quotes from non-jw sources)
*** w10 12/15 p. 23 par. 15 Sing to Jehovah! ***
In the years since that book was first published, the light has been getting brighter on a number of topics, and some of the expressions used in that songbook have become outdated. For example, we no longer speak of “the new order” but of “the new world.”

Yes, great thread. (stuckinarut)
Also, what about the expression that was well used throughout the 80's: "the new world order" or "new order"!
Just another note, the WTS never referred to the future earth or current organization as the NEW WORLD ORDER, but only either NEW WORLD or NEW ORDER. The WTS used NEW WORLD ORDER only when quoting non-jw sources.
*** w05 6/1 p. 3 Whatever Happened to World Unity? ***

“For the first time since World War II the international community is united. . . . The world can therefore seize this opportunity to fulfill the long-held promise of a new world order.” SO SAID a president of the United States

*** w93 1/1 p. 19 par. 5 Shepherding With Our Grand Creator ***
also to feed the sheep. What a glorious fulfillment of this prophecy we see today! While politicians talk of uniting mankind through a new world order, the one Shepherd is actually uniting the sheep of all nations through a multilanguage witnessing campaign such as only God’s organization on earth could ever begin to undertake.

*** w93 1/15 pp. 8-9 par. 3 Light Bearers—For What Purpose? ***
In view of more recent events, however, world leaders have been talking about “a new world order.” But it can hardly be said that any “new world” of their making has provided true peace and security.
*** w93 5/1 p. 3 Do We Need the Bible? ***
As this century draws to a close, technological developments and human philosophies have failed to produce world stability. Recent hopes for a new world order have given way to disillusionment, and the lives of many have been reduced to a daily struggle for survival.
*** w93 12/15 p. 12 par. 8 Trust in Jehovah! ***
The front cover of the May 1993 issue of the magazine World Press Review was emblazoned with the message: “THE CORRUPTION BOOM—Dirty Money in the New World Order. The corruption industry extends from Brazil to Germany, from the United States to Argentina, from Spain to Peru, from Italy to Mexico, from the Vatican to Russia.” Based as it is on hatred, greed, and distrust, man’s so-called new world order reaps nothing but escalating miseries for mankind.
*** w92 3/1 p. 3 Man’s Plans for International Security ***
“When all this is over, we want to be the healers. We want to do what we can to facilitate what I might optimistically call a new world order.”—U.S. president George Bush, January 1991, shortly after the beginning of the war with Iraq.
“President Bush’s concept of a New World Order stresses the importance of the rule of law and the belief that nations have a collective responsibility for freedom and justice. With the ending of the Cold War, a new era is emerging.”—U.S. ambassador to Australia, August 1991.
*** w92 3/1 p. 6 Will Plans for International Security Succeed? ***
An editorial in Die Kerkbode, the official journal of South Africa’s Dutch Reformed Church, said: “We are experiencing the transition into a new world order.
*** w92 4/1 p. 6 par. 1 Man’s “New World Order” Near? ***
The president of the United States called it “a new world order.”
And so on

Welcome Sanath, and thank you for the update... It seems that there are things going on in the background with the GB and the WT that we shall have to wait and see...... like the end of a very mysterious movie.
"The small one has not become a mighty nation"... has it?
As they say in my country, "FAIL!"

Sounds interesting. Thank you and welcome.
Should we start a thread with sold kingdomhalls to collect them? Only time of sale, maybe a link to a press-articel? Could be an interesting collection.

Welcome
With the decrease in the frequency of the conventions it might be cheaper to use a rented building and avoid the maintenance all year around. They might going back to the "good old days".

Thank you, Sanath; very interesting.
cha ching: It seems that there are things going on in the background with the GB and the WT that we shall have to wait and see...... like the end of a very mysterious movie.

Almost every time I tell my (fellow fader) wife about a new development, her eyes go wide and she says...
"Another one? How are they keeping the congregations from knowing about this, or asking what's happening???"

I have physically not attended a meeting in 3 years and knew TTATT for about 6-18 months before that. In that time I have only had 2 physical visit from the JWS. No return to jehovah brochure or memorial invite place under my door mat. Zip, nada nothing. I'm really beginning to wonder if all these stories of unwelcomed elders visits are true.

I cant see people making these stories up, the average body of elders in most congs are not what you say "models of efficiency" an ageing group stuck in a 1970's time warp struggling to embrace new technology, dwindling members of their congregations, constantly being scammed by HQ, lack of motivation, maybe they simply cant be bothered?

Oh the "sincere" visits happen. The Brochure gets left along with a note saying "we miss you etc.." BUT they ignore you in the street every other day!
So how sincere are those visits and "love" comments?

It depends on each individuals circumstances and how the local elders think and behave, and even then on to the CO and if he has told the to do this and forced their hand a bit.
When i quit i told one elder (who was my brothers father in law) that i wanted to be left alone when he suggested a visit or a chat in elder mode. That message worked because I knew he would make my feelings known to the rest of the elders and i was not bothered or hounded (apart from one every clumsy memorial invite by the cobe).
I am now in a different congs territory and apart from an early meet and greet over a year ago where i was frosty they have left me alone also. If they do try the memorial invite / return to the cult brochure in the next few days then i will make it very plain they are wasting their time and are only doing a tick box exercise.
Your old elders may know you enough to know it would be futile if they have even considered it. I hope that is the case with me at least.

It is a funny feeling I have to admit, I really do not want them to call, because this time I am determined if they do, to tell 'em how it is. Which may then result in a strange phenomenon not often seen, Elder Action.
So I am pleased in a way that this year they seem to have given me a miss.
But at the same time I am peeved that they have not given me my opportunity to vent at 'em.

We've (wife & I) discussed the fact that we are glad we are not being hounded by the elders as some here complain. In 5 years, one knock on the door by 2 (sincere) elders hoping to "encourage" us. That was just a few months after we changed Congs and they were following up on why we had not been to meetings. Since then, nothing. No visits. No calls. Nothing from all of our great friends at the previous Cong we attended for years.
So, we feel fortunate that we are not being "stalked" or pressured to RTJ.

On the other hand, since they believe those who "leave The Troof" will be destroyed very soon at Armageddon, it's a rude awakening to discover that they really don't give a rats ass about you.
I FEEL THE LOVE!

I got a call from one of the elders on my JC when I got DF'd back in April of 2015. He just said to please call him. I'm sure it was going to be an encouragement call and an invite. Funny thing is he knows where I live. Perhaps they've tried to stop when I wasn't home but they have no way to get into my building so..... Not going to call him back. Better to just leave sleeping (dead) dogs lie. I know TTATT and I'm done falling for the bs.

I told my spouse if we want them to stay away we can't complain when they don't come by. They are doing what we want them to do...staying away. I just find it facinating that when they go from door to door they don't leave the invitation to the memorial. Why do you spend all that time, why not leave the invite. Makes zero sense.

These guys are not like the paid clergy class. They usually hold down full time jobs (or part time and pioneer) and especially in bigger congregations (100 plus), have got so many demands on their time.
Yet, there is one way to get their attention: Rumors about "unscriptural" things you are doing in your private life. They will be on your doorstep in the blink of an eye.
Locally, a still-active sister was facing all kinds of physical health problems that limited her mobility and brothers and sisters knew she was facing upcoming surgery. Her adult JW children lived elsewhere. Due to her problems, meeting attendance was sporadic. But not one visit from elders, even the one assigned to her area of the city.
However, news got out that she may have formed a relationship with a male non-JW neighbor because he helped her take short walks around her neighborhood.
To make a long story short, the elders soon made unannounced visits and eventually three of them sprung an 'informal' meeting upon her on pne of the Sunday's she attended a meeting.
So, they completely ignored her during her long period of physical sickness but resumed contact with her when they heard through the JW grapevine that she was seen walking in public with a worldly man.
BTW, she was not in a "relationship" with this man. He was a kindly man who offered to help her get used to walking again.
What a sad reflection on the quality of tending the flock that prevails in the local congregation.

Who gets followed up on and how seriously they view it seems to depend upon the conscientiousness of the local BOE and congregation. Sounds like your local elders have always been indifferent to your situation.

Ouch! There's something Oscar Wildean in that statement:
"There's one thing worse than being pestered; it's being completely ignored."
