That truck would be better used if it was utilized to deliver food to food banks and blankets to homeless shelters. These people are freaks.

Is the girl on the truck a transgendered girl who is forced to use the men's room with that man, or is the man a transman forced to use the women's room with that girl?

“Send Target a message — don’t shop where women and children’s emotional and physical safety and privacy are under assault,”
AND then send an even bigger message to the entire world that you would rather waste a ton of money grandstanding an imaginary problem as opposed to using the money to help people that actually might need it.

Right? It's not even their policy. They don't allow men in women's rooms. The policy applies only to transgender people. They don't suddenly allow assault.
Christ, these people need to stop imagining problems.

Generally, that's true. The fear is of pervy cis straight men will use the liberal policies for transgender individuals to just be creepy, not of transgender individuals per se.
While many transgender individuals look like the opposite sex, many may not (particularly if they choose to avoid hormones and sex reassignment surgery). So ... on what basis do you tell a "guyish" looking person they can't go into the women's room? You can't really.
As I've said, the solution is really to just make unisex or "family" style bathrooms with properly enclosed stalls.

The solution is for people to get over their bigotry and ignorance and let other people use whatever bathroom they want. We don't need to rebuild the nation's public toilets, do away with urinals, or install floor to ceiling partitions.

Wait ... are you saying it's bigoted to not want to share a bathroom with someone of the opposite sex or it's bigoted to not want to share a bathroom with a transgender individual?
I could see a case being made for the latter ... but not so much for the former. Kinda depends on one's subjective sense of comfort, yeah?

So how do you define "opposite sex?" Weenie in the pants? Whiskers? Tits? I couldn't care less who I "share" a bathroom with, so long as they keep things clean, do their business, and move along. This panic that so many people have that they might "see something" or be seen by somebody else would be comical if it weren't so pathetic.

You're arguing for unisex facilities.
Pretend it's 8pm in a mall somewhere. A woman has to use the bathroom and it's at the end of a long corridor. Not many people are around. So she goes in and the only person in it is an obvious male who is 6'2" and 200 pounds. She's uncomfortable with the idea of pulling her panties down to pee. I get it. That doesn't make her a hater or a bigot, does it?
How does her discomfort make her a bad person? I'm not seeing it.

Your loci is flawed. What's keeping the 6'2 200lb man out of a secluded women's restroom now, if his intent is to prey on women?
I don't think it's the "oh, i can't go in there" law? Of course not.

Imagine her going down the hall and there's a negress in there or an obvious Lesbian. That could make a person uncomfortable, too. Being around people who make you uncomfortable is part of being in a society. You can't simple erase from existence people you don't like.

Given the fact that 1 in 5 women will be sexually assaulted in her life by a male, I'm not sure I'd be quick to equate any woman's fear of men with racism.
My point is this: our culture has had separated facilities for the sexes for much of its history. I don't personally think it's good or bad. It just the way it is ... for a variety of reasons.
To say that all people who might be reluctant to just abandon these customs overnight are a bunch of simple-minded bigots is, I think, an unfair assessment.

The vast majority of those one in five women will be sexually assaulted by someone they know.
From RRAIN:
"Approximately 4/5 of rapes were committed by someone known to the victim.

82% of sexual assaults were perpetrated by a non-stranger.
47% of rapists are a friend or acquaintance.
25% are an intimate.
5% are a relative."
And in the case of women (and men) assaulted by strangers, it's still sexual assault regardless of where the assault happens or whoever is doing the assaulting.

DaveW  > JamesBradshaw  • 2 hours ago

Ok, not bigots but strangely afraid of nothing. We are a sex obsessed society. That's what leads to sex specific bathrooms. Raise our kids without fear of their bodies or nudity would help. Unisex, adult supervised locker rooms would do a lot to reduce this strange obsession with nudity. It's just our bodies
Americans flip
Out over nude beaches, we even have ads showing shocked children when in Europe. This is the issue. Civilized cultures have nudity built into their society to defuse this.

As always, the solutions are obvious. Religion and ignorance (redundant!) get in the way.

Is the man a hetero Christian... Cuz then she has good reason to be uncomfortable... If it is a 6'w2" transwoman .. You know, someone that identifies as a woman, why would she fear... She has been peeing in restrooms with transgender folks all her life. This new "panic" is being created and fuled by a group of people who cash in on fear by asking for donations .... Donations could be for a truck like this or any plan that will separate you from your money....for example, if they collect $100K in tax free donations and the truck cost $5K ...that is $95K for the salaries and expenses of the not-for-profit's officers... Really, do you think the hate mongers actually care about women and children? Keeping the public fearful equals a good paycheck.

No, I don't get it. What is this fear about? Go into a stall and pee. If she is afraid of assault, the late time, lonely long hall is an issue, not a private stall with a latch
Women fear empty dark parking lots and are advised to use caution, nothing to do with a bathroom. Don't go shopping alone late at night. A very unfortunate reality that has nothing to do with peeing
I don't care if we create unisex multi use or not but we must not acknowledge a non problem. The Ts always peed somewhere and most people didn't notice. If we are to change let's improve on that, not make it worse.
Let them choose. They know
Which one will work out best

I think you're missing out on how much simpler life is when everyone went by the general "Mind your own business in bathrooms, *everyone*" rather than using bathroom boogeymen to demand trans people be put at risk and everyone get their papers and privates checked on demand so the Christian Right can use bathroom boogeyman fears that don't have any basis in reality to deny civil rights to LGBT people among broad sectors of life and society."

Yes, that's is the alleged fear. that straight men will use the law to peep at women in the restroom. But in the 200 or so municipalities where trans people are allowed to use the restroom of their choice, this hasn't been an issue whatsoever. But it's really a anti-gay law (tossing in Trans with the gays). NC's HB2 is the perfect example. They could have made an anti-trans-bathroom law, but threw in gays for good measure.
And, as someone said earlier, if they really wanted to protect kids, they would keep kids away from priests., who have a much larger record of molesting kids.

One need only look at the photograph to see what bs this whole thing is.
they show a little girl with an obvious man, whom I would presume to be heterosexual, rather than a transgendered person, who would appear as-- wait for it-- a woman.

But that's what we have always known. Heterosexual men pose the danger to women and children. Not transsexual people who need to pee.

I seriously think they're doing it because it worked the last time. Anyone remember the Equal Rights Amendment? One of the tactics they used to kill it was whipping up panic about "mandatory unisex restrooms." Freud might have something to say about the deep dark (and smelly) fears they're playing on, but I think proximately it's just a resort to a tactic that worked well for them before.
Makes me furious by the way. I have a long shopping list for Target this weekend. If any of those preaching creeps show up while I'm there, they better hope their god is awake and ready to intervene.

Paint ball guns loaded with plastic bags (instead of pellets) full of water-base paint are legal toys in Minnesota. What you hit with them is your decision. Just thought some of JMG readers might like to know. Again, only guns that lob plastic bags of water base paint. No plastic pellets. And you can rent all of it, too. :-)

I'll state the obvious... statistically, what's REALLY more troubling to a young girl visiting a Target store... a chance encounter with the mythical transvestite predator in the ladies room, or these batshit bastards yelling, screaming, and posting very scary billboards in the parking lot...???

For much longer than Target has existed, transgender people have been using public restrooms in accordance with their gender identity, and I'm not aware of anyone finding that to be a problem. But, suddenly, now it is labeled a huge threat that urgently needs laws to criminalize people for continuing to do what they have always been doing. The real threat that goes unmentioned is that these laws set up transgender people for verbal and physical attacks if they use the restroom consistent with their so-called biological gender. So, a transgender women, for example, is forced to make a choice: If she uses the women's room, she risks arrest and criminal charges, or if she uses the men's room she risks verbal and physical attack.

How fuckin' far from your kid ARE you that you don't see an adult male walk in? And say anything. Because unless dude was hiding in there (which is not what they've emphatically stated : he'll go in and...) (and really, why didn't you check to see if it's safe... or hygienic... or full...), what the HELL were the parents doing when he strolled in.

So the emotional and physical safety of women and children is more important than the emotional and physical safety of trans men, women & children? Got it Julie! So are trans people 3/5's of a person? 1/2 maybe? The people who are the documented victims of harassment, violence and murder aren't as worth of protection as people whom have never suffered at the hands of trans perpetrators.
Fuck you Julie. Fuck you and everyone in your organization. Fuck the trucks. Fuck the truck driver.

I think its time for Target to begin suing for defamation. What Claire Cretin says is a blatant falsehood:
“I don’t feel safe knowing that at Target a 6-foot, 5-inch, 250-pound
man can follow me into a bathroom and store employees won’t do anything
about it,” said Claire Chretien, an organizer of the campaign.

I've posted this before - still my suggestion:
In the spirit of separate restrooms/facilities for the transgendered, I suggest separate facilities for "christians".
This should make everyone happy, and a few years from now, we can look at the statistics for assaults by transgendered folks in the public restrooms vs. assaults by "christians" in "christian" restrooms.
Once that data is in, we'll know empirically, as a population in general, which group is more inclined to commit a sexual assault - the trans, or the "christians".

Maggie, I don't think anyone's suggesting that transgender individuals are rapists or predators. Even the folks at the AFA have conceded as much.
The other side is expressing this very poorly, though, and they do come across as very ignorant.
What I think bothers people is the radical insistence that words cannot have an objective or shared meaning.
Many people have said on this site that a transgender woman "is" a woman.
Really?
If that's true, if that statement is a fact, then a transgender woman has no ethical responsibility to inform her partner that she was born a male, even if she knows that he seeks to have his own children some day. She may not have a uterus, but what does that matter? I am what I say I am, and anyone who can't embrace my definition is a hater and should be dismissed.
I'm not suggesting this is what most transgender individuals do. What I'm saying is that I think we're intellectually sloppy at times.
Words have meaning.

My take: trans folks are a very small minority, and so far, they have been adult enough to use public restrooms and have romantic relationships without causing a federal case. If you want to make distinctions based on chromosomes, well yes, that's a fact, otherwise they wouldn't be trans individuals. I see no issue in acknowledging that unless you then use it to gin up false controversies like the Target boycotters and their religious right puppet masters are doing.

JamesBradshaw > KnownDonorDad  • an hour ago

You're correct. Again, trans individuals aren't the problem, per se. It's the lack of a consistent framework for who we consider to be transgender. These aren't trivial considerations.
The parameters may differ.
For the purposes of using a public restroom, the policies can be far more liberal than for those dictating who can compete in gender specific sports, for example.
Just bringing up these considerations is risky, though, because people react as if you're necessarily out to make their lives miserable, it seems.

How did you get to "no ethical responsibility"? Are you redefining ethical? Can you walk me through your definition of ethical and how being a transgendered changes personal ethics? I might agree that there is some intellectual sloppiness but it just might be a personal issue.

I'm saying that if a transgender woman is a woman in fact, there is nothing to tell to her partners.
In terms of relationship ethics, I think most of us would agree that they exclude dishonesty, in general, and certainly when it involves something as foundational as one's biology (or one's hiv status). Unless you have no problem being lied to...

And of course the irony is that if the policy that they're protesting is left in place, a man who is dressed like the man shown in the image would almost certainly be identifying as male, regardless of birth gender, and would be using the men's room. Under the policy the haters want in place, a man who is dressed like the man shown in the image and identifying as male but born female would be forced to use the women's (sorry, little girls') room. So the "scary" scenario they are trying to depict is actually far more likely to occur under the laws and policies they are fighting for than under the ones they're fighting against. But as usual, conservatives are so blinded by their hate and ignorance that they're completely incapable of recognizing irony, no matter how blatant it may be.

MINNESOTA: Haters Plan Mobile Billboard Campaign Against All 72 Target Outlets In The State [VIDEO]
May 18, 2016 Business, Civil Rights, Hate Groups

Via CBS Minnesota:

From sidewalk picketing to online petitions, the opposition to Target’s bathroom and fitting room policy isn’t going away. Outside the state office building in St. Paul on Monday, a large truck rolled up carrying a strong anti-Target message.
“Send Target a message — don’t shop where women and children’s emotional and physical safety and privacy are under assault,” Minnesota chair of the Child Protection League Julie Quist said.
Her criticism is now wrapped around a large delivery truck. The so called, “Flush Target” campaign will visit all 75 of Target’s Minnesota stores. The critics are hoping to force the retailing giant to reverse course on a policy announced in March.
“I don’t feel safe knowing that at Target a 6-foot, 5-inch, 250-pound man can follow me into a bathroom and store employees won’t do anything about it,” said Claire Chretien, an organizer of the campaign.

Dear Benny,
When those men in white robes and hoods are talking about the 'Jew Media', it includes you. Now that you know that they have ALWAYS been very conservative, how does that make you feel about your little tea party now. Do you need some lemon and honey with your tea? Would you like to know some of the other ideas that your fellow country men and GOP voters have in mind for Jews, people of color, gays and others? What does it feel like to be as old as you are and suddenly become aware of your surroundings?
Deal with it...
Teh gays.

More and more, protests of Israel's policies are being folded into anti-Semitism so it is getting more difficult to differentiate between protests over Israeli policies and plan old-fashion Jew hatred. As I said above, neither end of the political spectrum has a monopoly on hate. I doubt that little Benji would have found a much warmer welcome among the Bundy clan and other people who took over the Oregon wildlife center than among the lekers of Palestinian zudig and the Jew haters in the BDS movement, another organization ostensibly protesting Israeli policies when what they are really protesting is Israel's existence.

There are MANY people--innocent people--who deserve my attention and my concern and help when they fall victim to oppression, but FASCISTS who give a damn about NO ONE but themselves, who go out of their way to DEFAME and HARM others who have done THEM no harm, who strive day and night to deny OTHERS all the rights and protections THEY take for granted, are NOT among them.
This miserable excuse for a human being is a FASCIST. His dearest wish is to do ALL the HARM he can to those he HATES.
It is a great IRONY--perhaps the SUPREME irony--that the very thing that would most protect him--i.e. the Rule of Law in a TRUE democracy--is the VERY instrument he has done everything in his power to UNDERMINE and DESTROY, to replace it with the arbitrary and irrational dictates of political and religious FANATICISM.
Therefore, I say to him: "Be DONE TO to as you would, so EAGERLY and without MERCY, do to OTHERS.
"BEHOLD, sir, the WRATH of JUSTICE; for you have, with malice aforethought, DESTROYED the very thing which would have saved you!!
"Pray to the GOD you pretend, in your mendacious and RUTHLESS pursuit of POWER, to worship and whose 'Will' you have deliberately PERVERTED into the instrument of your own DESTRUCTION.
"Pray for HIS help.
"From ME you will receive the same help I would get from you: NONE!!
"Be CONSUMED by the flower of EVIL that you have cultivated with YOUR OWN HAND!!"

And as far as I can tell from Google, Valencia either refers to a Houston corporation or an affluent neighborhood in LA County. Maybe his doohickey was set to jiggery-poke mode by contraction of affluenza?

Gee, Ben, because just maybe genuine anti-Jewish anti-Semitism -- that is, hating Jewish people because of their faith and no other reason -- really, really is a far radical right phenomenon and always has been? And because despite all those years of conflating Israel as being equal to Jewish in every way -- even though quite a few Israeli citizens are not Jewish -- opposing Israel's settlement expansion and minority expulsion practices wasn't actually an inherently anti-Semitic position? Not unlike the way one can be objectively Islam-friendly, but still think Saudi Arabia is a terrible country based on how they treat women and non-believers?

Apparently not. That was one of the things that hit me:
"The anti-Semitism I’d heard about from my grandparents — the country-club anti-Semitism, the alleged white-supremacist leanings of rednecks from the backwoods — was a figment of the imagination, I figured."

What his grandparents told him was just imaginary? If he can discount what his own family tell him so easily, it makes it easier to understand how he can simply discount all evidence that disagrees with his narrative.

Well now it's too loud for him to ignore. Better late than never I guess. Obama nor his administration are anti-Israel, and while there is some on the fringe left who are anti-semitic they are a tiny minority among liberals whereas anti=semites on the right are quite common.

Sucks being discriminated against, blamed for things you didn't or don't do or free even just who you are doesn't it Ben? As much as I dislike your bigoted ass I still stand up and fight anti semitism because I know it's hurtful, hateful and most of all wrong. I'm sure you will learn nothing from this except your feelings are hurt.

The best thing about the breitbart comments section is how much fighting they do amongst themselves. If you want definitive proof that the GOP and conservatives are imploding, then head on over and read it for yourself. It's a sad but amazing train wreck.

When Mr. Shapiro was writing for Breitbart, he penned some pretty crude hateful articles.
You know, the typical "liberals are responsible for all of the evils in the world", trash talk.
But he's a relatively good writer, at least in technical writing terms.
By contrast, the guy who replaced Mr. Shapiro, "Milo" - is so immature and unpolished in his quest for hate provoking click-bait, that he comes across as a pubescent girl, who can't understand why she's having these monthly mood swings.
While Mr. Shapiro's screeds were focused hate, Mr. Milo's screeds are devised to throw as much diverse hate rants at the wall, so that maybe, at least some of that sloppy crap can be interpreted to be the visage of conservative rage.

Not agreeing 100% with the Israeli government on middle east relations does not equate to being anti-semitic. I strongly support the nation of Israel but I think their actions against the people of Palestine are wrong morally and also go against Israel's long-term interests.

Living in San Francisco, where supporting Palestinians often means hating Israel, I understand why someone would conclude that the left is anti-Semitic. It wasn't long ago I was shopping at Rainbow Grocery, (where nearly everyone has a pallor and dry, brittle hair) and looked up to see my checker wearing a "F*** Israel" t-shirt.

But what is it that you have done? While this epiphany could well be a turning point for yourself - how do you think the lasting impact of your previous rhetoric will be regarded now? For years you have written column after column condemning the ungawdly, nasty gays - knowing full well your published venom would bring prejudice and harm from those you perceived to be on your side. It was all ok then. But, believ me, your quick 'apology' isn't going to cleanse your record. Now you will need to put as much effort and thought into correcting the wrongs you have done....and that starts with apologizing to ALL that you have demonized - individually and separately.
But now, here you are - caught in the circle of life like all the rest of us - and now you fear for the safety of your wife and children - from the very same brethren you previously stood with arm-in-arm. Now they hate you. They hate your kids who did nothing but being born that way (Jewish).
In my travels that far exceed "Iowa to Texas" I don't recall ever coming across a hater who hated only one group. It was never just Jews - OR - gays -OR - blacks. They hated all of them. That's right; NO blacks, NO Jews, NO gays.
In any case - welcome to the hated side of town. Remember what you have learned as your raise your children. Please teach them not to hate.

Ben Shapiro: Anti-Semites Worship Donald Trump
May 18, 2016 2016 Election, Infighting Is Funny, Racism

That Donald Trump is a god to racists, skinheads, neo-Nazis, and anti-Semites is hardly news to anybody with an internet connection, but it IS interesting that the penny has finally dropped for Ben Shapiro. He writes at the National Review:

I was wrong. I’ve spent most of my career arguing that anti-Semitism in the United States is almost entirely a product of the political Left. I’ve traveled across the country from Iowa to Texas; I’ve rarely seen an iota of true anti-Semitism. I’ve sensed far more anti-Jewish animus from leftist college students at the University of California, Los Angeles, than from churches in Valencia.
As an observer of President Obama’s thoroughgoing anti-Israel administration, I could easily link the anti-Semitism of the Left to its disdain for both Biblical morality and Israeli success over its primary Islamist adversaries. The anti-Semitism I’d heard about from my grandparents — the country-club anti-Semitism, the alleged white-supremacist leanings of rednecks from the backwoods — was a figment of the imagination, I figured.
I figured wrong. Donald Trump’s nomination has drawn anti-Semites from the woodwork. I’ve experienced more pure, unadulterated anti-Semitism since coming out against Trump’s candidacy than at any other time in my political career. Trump supporters have threatened me and other Jews who hold my viewpoint. They’ve blown up my e-mail inbox with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. They greeted the birth of my second child by calling for me, my wife, and two children to be thrown into a gas chamber. Yes, seriously.
And that’s just the opening. Hit the link for the rest. Breitbart, unsurprisingly, was unable to resist attacking the messenger, who is, after all, a traitor that used to work for them.
