Meanwhile, back in the real world, their movement is a bunch of crazy people wandering around the Target screaming Bible verses until the cops take them away.

they are loving all the free advertising, Toni. loving it. and your "1.1 million" (yeah, like i believe that's a real number, not) will have zero impact on Target, even if they are disciplined and honest for a change and don't shop there. and that will only be for a little while.
this is what? the 47th boycott of Target by the nutbags? yeah. they're so scared. lol

bullies? so boycotting North Carolina over its law = being a bully but their boycott and harassment of Target is just fine? the religious right double standard strikes again. when we apply pressure it is bullying, when they apply pressure they are just acting on their "values"

That's the beauty of "free exercise " the most elastic phrase ever conceived. It would be nice if just once, they were forced to articulate the the specificity of their sincerely-held religious beliefs. Maybe we wouldn't have to infer what they believe from their repugnant statements and actions

Second, his contributing base is just as deluded, desperate for some good to them news, and keeps sending in $. So the lies will keep getting more and more obvious and nasty.

So Tony, please explain how boycotting Chik-Fil-A was "Domestic Economic Terrorism" but boycotting Target is a righteous edict? Or is it simply because "Christians" are calling for the Target boycott instead of people that Christians don't like?

Doesn't look like it from the figures Joe quotes.
But then HIS statement--unlike YOURS--is based on FACTS.
I think it's more likely, based on your money-BEGS, that YOU'RE the one soon to be "on the ropes."
That day is drawing NEAR.
More and more people see you for EXACTLY what you are, and they increasingly DESPISE you for it!!

We're approaching the second anniversary (May 20, 2014) of "activist," "turncoat" federal Judge John Jones III's (submitted by Skippy Santorum and recommended by the twig) decision on the unconstitutionality of Pennsylvania's fags-can't-get-married law. To my thinking, the last two paragraphs (quoted here) should be in every history of our struggle for marriage equality:
"The issue we resolve today is a divisive one. Some of our citizens are made deeply uncomfortable by the notion of same-sex marriage. However, that same-sex marriage causes discomfort in some does not make its prohibition constitutional. Nor can past tradition trump the bedrock constitutional guarantees of due process and equal protection. Were that not so, ours would still be a racially segregated nation according to the now rightfully discarded doctrine of "separate but equal."…In the sixty years Brown v. Board of Education was decided, "separate" has thankfully faded into history, and only "equal" remains. Similarly, in future generations the label same-sex marriage will be abandoned, to be replaced simply by marriage.
"We are a better people than what these laws represent, and it is time to discard them into the ash heap of history."

We just have to work this harder as a group.
A lot of us have to contact performers. A lot of us.
Tony Perkins is right, we can't let off.

Thanks, Tony! I just remembered that I need to pick up some ropes. I think I'll head over to my FRIENDLY neighbourhood Target store and pick up some ropes. While I'm there, I'll peruse their extensive collection of greeting cards. I think I'll check in their Sorry That Your Candidate Lost section. Or maybe they'll have something with a lovely message about Shutting The Fuck Up. Or something.

You know Toni, when you make a claim that Target is on the ropes, one would hope you did research in their profit/loss reports, or maybe noting retailers who no longer offer their products for sail at Target.
And if you want to bring up NC, fine. Feel free to name big time starts who ARE playing in NC and are also not using their stage as a podium for equality rights for LBGT.
You are going to have to show proof, and a few pronouncements on Fox news isn't going to impress anyone beyond your base.

I was at a dinner party this past Saturday and the subject of this "boycott" came up. The wife of one of my acquaintances was quite jovial about the "boycotters" reaching the "one million" mark. She shocked me when she said that she "signs" the petition daily, everytime she gets online, using a different "password" each time. When I remarked that I viewed that as being fraudulent, she just laughed and said that it was her "mission" to reach two million.....

What's amazing about this latest skirmish in the culture war that the Religious Right is limping through is that now the actual terms of battle aren't spelled out.
Then: Aim was to stop same-sex marriage, they framed things in terms of stopping same-sex marriage (and nothing more, heavens no, some of their best friends are gay).
Now: Aim is to fight ENDA legislation, they frame things in terms of sexual predators in bathrooms, which are sure to come out of the woodwork any day now.

At least have some guts, for crying out loud.

Tony Perkins, by now, you must be realizing your days as Chief LGBTQ Antagonist are almost over and you will soon join the ranks of the irrelevant Brian Brown. Your base of power, the republican party, has self destructed and is on course to fragment into a bunch of little impotent pieces. Your antigay crowd will be one of those little pieces that will fall into the dust bin of history. You are back to preaching end of the world messages on street corners. Though we are fighting your hatefully unnecessary trans bathroom war, it was nothing more than a desperate hail Mary pass that will fail. We are in the last battle of the culture wars and the bigoted anti-gays will be decisively defeated.
In the end, the unholy coalition Ronald Reagan built the modern republican party on has proven once and for all, the conservative ideology was deeply flawed and ultimately rejected by the voters .

I sure hope everything you said is true. It does seem the GOP will explode. They are beginning to split on our social issues and want to move on. The young people are not joining because of the hateful platform so they are following Bernie even though he is a dem. The Moral Majority is dying off and being pushed out of the way. Mostly because of their own crazy shit. Pushing their twisted 'christianity' is a big turn off even to other christians.

Well, I'm guessing many of those performers can't really afford to cancel the show.
You gotta figure that they still have to pay a bunch of bills even if they don't show up. They're contractually obligated for a lot of stuff to put on that show and canceling doesn't mean those obligations simply go away.
For the big stars with huge bank accounts it's not a big deal. But for those smaller guys that can be an enormous financial burden they can ill afford.
So yeah, he might be right but as always he's disingenuous about it. And he's also a giant prick either way.

Tony Perkins: Target Is On The Ropes
May 4, 2016 Business, Duggar, Hate Groups

Via press release:

After more than 1.1 million people pledged to boycott Target, celebrities and corporations alike are having second thoughts about crossing Americans on such a consensus issue. The decision by the retail giant is not only sparking massive backlash, but it’s helping the country get a real picture of the controversy in North Carolina. It’s also shown liberals that without the big media’s cover, twisting the facts of the law, they’re all by themselves.
There’s even more evidence of that this week, as more singers are keeping their concert dates in North Carolina than canceling them. Even more telling, not one business has threatened to leave the state after seeing what happened to the retail giant — which has taken a $2.5 billion hit since letting grown men in women’s restrooms and dressing rooms. After executives announced the change, shares dropped 6 percent in just 10 days.
And the rest of the market is taking note. Rockers Cyndi Lauper and Mumford and Sons refused to cancel their stop in the Tar Heel State, and instead promised to donate the proceeds to LGBT organizations. This is what happens when you stand up to bullies! They leave. And the same thing would have eventually happened in Indiana, Georgia, and South Dakota if those governors would have had the courage to stand up for religious freedom. Most country stars, meanwhile, never abandoned fans in the first place.
Target’s stock price has indeed dipped slightly since the boycott began. Just as it did two weeks earlier. And just as all stocks regularly do. As of yesterday, Target’s stock value is exactly one penny away from where it was one year ago.Tstock

I shopped at my local Target just this afternoon, as a matter of fact.
Had a hell of a time finding a parking space: on a Tuesday afternoon.
Apparently, this is one shitty boycott.

As long as the Canadians in the lower mainland of BC keep crossing the border here , not a chance. Almost equal number of US to BC plates in the parking lot today. Showed my support with LGBT $$$.
Edit: Order rubber stamp with bold LGBT to stamp all my paper money. I'll need to run that idea by my resident bank person.

It will take a while to assess the impact of the AFA campaign. Right now, the AFA anti-Target pledge has 1,168,000 signers while the Move-on pro-Target petition has 122,000. Less than 10%. Not 'good optics' in any case.

I wonder how many of the people signing the petition to boycott will actually NOT shop at Target. How long before they forget the whole thing, or it becomes too inconvenient to go somewhere else?
Remember, this is the crowd that thinks that they are entitled to more and better, that they ARE more and better, than all the rest.

Oh, and: Perversion Lobby. Mmm, hot!

I used to work at a museum that had the state's old electric chair in a storeroom. The real one. Imagine the glee among the staff when the gossip circuit passed the word that one of the security guards and a junior librarian had been found to be having sex while seated in the lap of Old Sparky. Oh and yes, Jean-Marc, the storeroom walls were painted black too.

what fools
two thoughts
1) they think...really believe, that this might work...the ignorant among them think that most Americans are with them on this...the smarter one knows better
2) the LOVE this...it DOES still scare old men and old women who fear "perverts and children at risk"....and as Anita Bryant showed us, that COULD work at one time, and it STILL is a good way to get that generations Social Security $$$$s !!!

Oh, you can bet that there are some young people working their. Some are doing it for the money (lack of jobs for grads of the christer schools), some no doubt because they are fanatics themselves.
But the older ones believe in Authority, which is that older people have more of it. So the young'un's just have to wait their turn. True, there are not as many of them, but they are still there.

This clown is too dense to realize that they have already lost it.

I imagine that the controversy will only drive people to buy items AT Target, not away like these fanatics claim. The christian lobby isn't very effective at all when it comes to boycotts, mainly because they don't have much influence outside of Forever 21, Hobby Lobby, Chick-fil-a, etc. not very many businesses that they have that kind of influence.
Now the Perversion Lobby ? I know what he means, but with regards to a store name, i could be persuaded to taking a browse there if such store were to exist. Especially someone put it in the vicinity of the Hobby Lobby. I do my craft shopping at Michaels, but i would love to see someone do that.

But, but, now they will mercilessly continue to do completely ineffective things forever and ever for Target ever stepping out of line! That's different from the last three ongoing boycotts, cause this time it's *on* baby! Till 'destruction!' Which the preachers of course didn't suggest if anyone tries it.

Controversy was all their own doing. Over nothing that is nothing, and the facts that no one has been a statistic according to their fear mongering, means that they now have to resort to using their own people just to prove their "point".
Conservative "family" groups want exclusive policies that are exclusive to LGBT people and other groups that they do not like, if they had things their way they would want store policies to be exclusive not inclusive, they'll always say that company (insert name here) is stepping out of line, question is which one is it this time.
But no its either the sick Transgenders or the icky gays that are dangerous to people, not anyone on the conservative wing, like the last names Hastert, Duggar, or Craig (i could go on) don't even matter.

They do. And it is. This is the fire we were forged in, though. And they're running out of things to burn.
I mean, look at this. When I was twelve, or sixteen, or eighteen, ...if I had ever thought my persecutors would be reduced to declaring jihad against Zayre's for not giving trans people a hard enough of a time for having bladders, I'd ....Heh. I'd have better reason to expect a world that might start living up to Star Trek, is what I'd do.
I mean, it's sick and it's sad that these hate groups rake in more with every lie about me by two orders of magnitude than I can earn in a year's work and pain, but.... They're the sad, sick, frightened ones, no matter what they do to us or the rationale of the week to keep doing it. They're the ones screaming in discount stores.

It's not only happening in the US, though it's more conspicuous there because the US has always been the most ardently religious country in the First World. It's happening everywhere.
The CNN story notes that the US census doesn't ask about religious affiliation. Well the Australian one does, though the question is optional -- and at the last census (in 2011) "no religion" was the second-largest (and fastest-growing*) religion in Oz. We are having a new census on August 9 this year, and I doubt it will surprise anyone if "no religion" moves into first place.
*Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam were runners-up; but as between them they account for only 5% of the population that won't halt the overall trend.
If you want the trends and statistics, you'll find them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

People keep asking, isn't the problem straight men who are molesters? Not the Transgendered?
Well, yes, of course. but to these guys the world is either "normal" people like them, or "perverts" which is every one else. Child molesters, gays, trans, people who like bondage, all are lumped together as perverts.
Except the Duggers, the Hasterts, and so on -- they are just normal people influenced by evil.

They're also trying to "make the point" that if you allow men into the ladies room (which is their categorization of transwomen) then you have to allow ALL men into the ladies room, and see what havoc that causes?
But the point they're missing is that they are, by law, mandating that transmen are FORCED into the ladies room. So if anyone is forcing bearded, hairy, obviously male people into the ladies room, it's these anti-trans clowns.

Perhaps an Undercover Gay has infiltrated the Televangelists to give them subversive Bad Fashion Advice: Yes, that is a very masculine color for you!
That unnamed hero should get extra double plus hazard pay.

Yes and no. He'd likely come down on the same side - since the Hobby Lobby decision was essentially that the private religious views of the owners outweigh any rights that their employees have.
As though the Target management isn't made up of people.

But then, these people never come anywhere near as close to following their book the way they demand that others do.

These people think they are part of decent society? Illiterate trailer trash hating everyone? I don't see them invited to events in "decent" society. (In the south we called it polite society) Wrong side of town? Wrong ethnicity? Not in our club! Plenty of baptists were allowed into the mostly episcopal settings, but they knew there place and didn't try to force strange rules on the rest. And they were easy to pick out, episcopalian s being better turned out.
This idiot would not be considered for membership! ( but his choice of brooks brothers is telling. The north moved on to Italian suits a long time ago. In the south they wear joseph banks and wish they could afford BB. Or just tell everyone they shop there)
I don't miss the south for sure!

I wouldn't ever consider anyone's faith as qualifying them as "good."
It is only one's actions, not beliefs that qualify them as good. Let's just take one example: the Wars of Religion. Bohemia was emptied of a population and the massacres throughout Europe were possibly more brutal than anything caught on film in this century. See: St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre.

Also, we read a lot here on this blog about Bill Donohue and his "Catholic League." In history this was a league of nations hell-bent on massacring the opposing Protestant League who were hell-bent on doing the same. Old Billy purposefully chose that name. I honestly do not think that Christians have ever fallen into the "good" camp.

Christians think dirt is bad, like with poop and sex and whatever stew of dysfunction got rending Brooks Brothers suits involved there to scream bloody murder if a retail store doesn't take every possible opportunity to strain trans people's bladders. In my religion, putting dirt on yourself would be like asking the Mother to take you back if there was anything to be that ashamed of, which surely wouldn't involve 'Failure to give trans people a hard enough time if they needed a pee' by a long shot.

I do believe it is a reference to symbolize repentance; also dust or ashes put upon the head was a sign of mourning, or more likely: "those who demanded justice against a criminal were accustomed to throw

They took the highest price fluctuation and compared it to the lowest price fluctuation.
It's meaningless.

BarbWire: Target Must Be Boycotted Into Bankruptcy
May 3, 2016 Civil Rights, Hate Groups, Religion

“Target must be destroyed, not just boycotted and humbled into submission regarding their love affair with the LGBT crowd. I support the present boycott of Target; however, it is not a winning strategy. If we hold to the boycott and it grows with intensity until Target’s parking lot is almost empty then Target’s CEO will be forced to back down, but we will have only won a temporary victory. My desire is that Target should be destroyed even if they relent (not the same as repent) and ask to be accepted back into decent society again.
“Critics will suggest that that is unchristian since the theme of the Bible is redemption; however, that is for persons, not entities. Others are free to rush back to Target but I choose not to do so, even if Target’s CEO weeps copious tears, throws dirt over his head, and rips his Brooks Brothers’ suit on national television. I believe the boycott should not cease! At least if we are serious about winning this cultural war.
“People have a right to expect God to fulfill His promise of redemption but businesses don’t have that right. When Target goes belly up, it will send a loud message to other businesses that it is not wise to use perversion to antagonize principled people. Let me assure everyone that the road to America’s moral garbage dump is paved with bad intentions. The Perversion Lobby wants to destroy your way of life. A successful boycott is a way to make a difference instead of whining about our mistreatment.” – Don Boys, writing for Matt Barber’s BarbWire.
NOTE: Target’s stock price closed today a whopping 18 cents shy of its price on this day last year.
RELATED: Last month Don Boys declared that Melania Trump is definitely a slut. Boys, a former member of the Indiana House, advocates for making homosexuality punishable by 12 years in prison.
