Maybe not relevant today, just sharing one of my archive storage, this picture of jw.org Lawyer Philip Brumley, in a joint project with scientology and other religions in 2006.
The picture was published on a scientology website, mentioning the joint project with jw.org

I am so very disgusted that JW.0rg would be in cahoots with the Scientologists. Whatever happened to bad associations?
These religions are ruled by a bunch of hypocrites to the umpteenth degree. I hope they both go down the drain soon. And that's a "soon" I can look forward to.

That's very interesting Gorbatchov, is there a link to it on the Scientology website? Working in partnership with another religion means they are fighting for some rights that will help to grow false religion.

It surprised me that the information is still online. Here you can read the article:

It really opened my eyes for sure in 2000.

in the 90's, from my deep storage archive.

This was a true event, it goes back to the negotiations with the Cuban Government asking for the relaxation of the persecution of the JWs; it goes back to the 90s, maybe 1997.
Loesch, Barry and Barr were there and I think that Awake has a report on this matter.
 +1 / -0
Gorbatchov
Gorbatchov 5 hours ago

The source is simple: I cut and paste the picture during my late '90 internet connection.
There was some witness who did a Bethel tour at Patterson and published his pictures of the
tour on the net. One of the pictures was of the legal office and this picture was hanging on a wall.
I just cut and paste it, knowing it could be for later use. So the source is the legal staff at Patterson.
This picture openend my eyes about the Society.
Later the United Nation connections and other political ties confirmed my opinion.

After I retired I volunteered for several community service programs, including working with the local food bank. Every fourth Thursday of each month I help out in distributing food to needy families at the local Veterans Building. I've been helping out for five years now. But six months ago an older couple joined our volunteer group. They were both Anglo, but fluent in Spanish, something very helpful as many of our clients are Hispanic with limited English.
It gets more interesting. After all the clients were served last Thursday and we were cleaning up, this man was having a lengthy conversation in Spanish with the food bank's truck driver. The guy was showing the driver his cell phone and explaining in Spanish how the driver could visit JW.org.
Because of some of the things this guy has said in the past, I suspected that he might be a JW, and this seemed to confirm it. Still it seems strange that a JW would waste several hours each month volunteering his time for a "Worldly Charity" and not out knocking on doors or standing by a literature trolley.

Not sure if there are many JWs among our clients, as I haven't attended a local KH in over 30 years. But I did recognize an elderly JW getting food from the bank. He didn't say anything when handed him a sack of potatoes, not even thank you.

That may be their intent, Divergent. They speak Spanish and many of our clients are Hispanic and needy. So the JW "pie in the sky" theology would have great appeal to people who are financially disadvantaged.

Who said they are necessarily JWs? They could be non-JWs who are interested in the organization but otherwise aren't overly influenced by it.

I think many JWs are convinced that "the truth" has the miraculous ability to change people. The reality is that JWs are no different than people in other religions, or even people in no religion. You can brainwash people into going to all the meetings, doing the study, going out in service, even earnestly praying to God, but it doesn't change what people are, not really.
Most people have a tendency to minimize their bad behavior and justify it in their own mind, but then there are some people who are just evil and it doesn't matter how many hours they spend at the Kingdom Hall, they are going to do what they are going to do. The sad part is they usually get away with it because most JWs live in denial and don't recognize evil when they see it because it wears a suit and says all the right things. That's why child molesters get away with it so often and for so long.

Google " Crimes committed by Jehovah`s Witnesses" , you will find that every conceivable crime has been committed by Jehovah`s witnesses in good standing , from petty crimes to murder and everything in between .
I once made this comment to an Elder and his reply was that if they did these crimes they were not really Jehovah`s Witnesses .
I replied , by that reasoning their are no Catholics in jails anywhere either.
.....All I got was a blank stare

Sounds like the mother was "free" to remarry and the JW daughters did not shun her - have I got that part right?
This reflects so badly on the JWs and I get impression none of the "survivors" remain active JWs.

I'm surprised doesn't happen more often. Particularly when men are told they pretty much own their wives and wives are told to be submissive like slaves.
Had a case in Maryland some years ago where the husband killed his wife right outside the courthouse after an ex parte hearing.

Reading the recent thread about first talks reminded me of when I was new on the school.
I was around 8 and had to read the chapter that mentions 'sucking king's breasts'. We got there late and somebody else was giving it. Boy was I secretly relieved. My Dad looked down and with a glimmer said 'are you glad?'.
By the time I grew up, I figured the only way to avoid embarrassment was to OWN those nasty readings. Read em like you meant em, breast squeezing, breast intoxication, bosom pressing, donkey genitals, horse emissions, and the assorted 'ass'.
One older sister approached me after and remarked on the very 'mature' reading I was assigned. Another time I took someone's place reading the Proverbs 'marital sex' chapter. He sincerely thanked me after with a look of fear on his face.
Anybody have anecdotes to share about shocking scriptures/etc. and situations in the ministry/at the meeting/etc.?

Please I want to read about experiences of those in this forum regarding those who have worked with GOLDEN NEO LIFE INTERNATIONAL COMPANY (GNLD). I was searching for job and a man saw me and asked me whether I can do a job that would take me from two years to five years. So I said yes to him; and he took me to a company called GNLD. I am a novice about this business but I know a little detail about this business. The founder of NEO LIFE is JERRY BRASSFIELD. He founded the company in California, U.S.A in the year 1958. When I got to the company they told me to pay a certain amount of money to register and collect my literature kits. I have started paying little by little but I have not completed my payment. I know a little bit of their marketing plan. I have researched online, but I am not satisfied. Any experiences, whether good or bad, will be appreciated.

Its a Multilevel Marketing company - My wife joined about 25 years ago but never made any real money - It runs on a model that does resemble the JW model of recruiting ! You join - usually via a presentation session after having been talked into going by a "recruiter' - and then you buy product and follow a very refined model of marketing the GNLD way ......"tried and tested" - building your Network by means of "first calls" and "return visits" and lots of use of your resources ! As in JW land you end up with a lot of "product" that you own [like Mags building up on the shelf] If you apply yourself ......"pioneering spirit" you can succeed in building your Downline but as with MLM systems there is that finite critical crossing point !
Many JW buy into MLM's because it ..... will allow you to spend more time in the preaching work wont it! And so when you have several JW in a congo doing MLM eg Amway/ Herbalife or GNLD you are all trying to recruit your nearest contact base eg relatives and congo members and it all gets very messy! There is only so much product that anyone in the congo can purchase !
And the founder was always a someone who had this "enlightening moment in life" - Like Jerry Brassfield of GNLD - rather like members of charismatic groups who have that big meeting moment with Christ -
Herewith a direct quote from the NEOLIFE Homepage - it reads like a Charismatics testimony:
As a young boy, Jerry Brassfield suffered from severe asthma and allergies. Determined to find relief for her sick son, Jerry's mother began adding quality nutritional products to his daily diet. It was then that he discovered the profound impact quality supplements could play in helping restore good health.
Because of his passion for helping others, Jerry began sharing his powerful testimony with those around him and realized most people were in need of a solution to a lack of good nutrition. Sharing the products and working with others to set and achieve both health and financial goals turned out to be a financially rewarding home based business.
His belief in the products and desire to change lives is what paved the way for Jerry to turn his small network marketing business into a global, multi-million dollar company.

So look into it very very carefully ! You may be paying out a lot of money for products [which probably have value - eg they have to pass FDA criteria ] but if you looked at the individual ingredients etc in the products you will find you can get similar elsewhere at much cheaper prices .

Very few people ever make money in multi level marketing. It's heavily stacked to favor the first people to join. If you are a real top-notch sales person, a real go getter and don't mind hitting up your friends and family for business and leads you might make some money, but the reality is the vast majority of people in MLM make less than $300 a month.
My feeling is why should I buy soap (or vitamins, or whatever) that has been marked up enough to pay for lavish sales commissions, vacations or fancy cars for the people at the top? They may be good products, but they are never special enough to justify the inflated costs no matter how much they have been hyped. And many of them use the same recruiting tactics as a cult. My ex husband used to join every MLM scheme that came down the pike, he had dreams of getting rich with little work, but he never made any money at any of them.
Your friend who is telling you that it's a good deal is making money off your purchase of the sales material, so can you really count on him to tell you the truth? Will he tell you how much the average rep makes (not just the lucky who do extremely well)?
They are very little better than pure pyramid schemes in my book. All pyramid schemes make money for a few peoole who jump in at the beginning, but they are all doomed to fail because there are only so many people dumb enough to invest in pyramid schemes and even if every person invested in them they would still eventually fail because there are a finite number of people in the world.

Yeah - MLM. Avoid it like the plague. Just seen so many JWs fall for these kind of scams because I guess they kind of mirror the Watchtower structure & many JWs are rather naive , vulnerable and idealistic.
One of my earliest JW associated memories was the Shaklee pyramid scheme in the early / mid 70's that bolted onto the "Stay Alive till 75" frenzy - half our congregation got caught up ( including my parents ) and I recall sales meetings that open & closed with prayer - Shaklee leadership ( who made millions ) sold it as encouraging pioneering , serving where the need was greater etc. Eventually it all fizzled out when cheques started bouncing. We had a garage filled with the goods for years that we couldn't sell - eventually my father hired a skip and it all got chucked out - doubtless polluting some landfill site to this day! The pattern just continues over the decades - I guess there is a sucker born every minute.

ZAPPA-ESQUE
ZAPPA-ESQUE an hour ago

I avoided using the term Pyramid Scheme but as LisaRose says - it pretty much is !
If you take a sheet of paper and do the basic math of how the concept is supposed to work - by the time you reach only a few levels in your "downline" you will have signed up millions of people ! But ........not in reality !

He is just days away from graduation with his Bachelor's in English, and today, he has an interview with a recruiter for an agency that help with finding teaching positions in South Korea.

I took it upon myself to research the company and his interviewer, and it's been high marks all around on both of them. So that's a great ease on my mind.
i just hope the interview (over the phone) goes well, and results in the next steps to getting a position.
My son spent a month in Seoul last Summer, an loved the place. He has friends out there as well, including a young man that he attended classes with here in the States, so I think that's a real plus in taking this very giant leap.
When I was his age, I was slowly working my way through a two year degree, still living at home, and aspiring to nothing more than a job as a repairman. Leaving the country never crossed my mind. I am so very proud of both my sons, and I am so glad that I did not sentence them to the same dead end future I allowed myself to be sentenced to.
Anyway, I appreciate any positive vibes and thoughts you could send our way! (or prayers, if that's your thing. )
Updates to come.

Happy for him! I checked out South Korea, but it was too close to North Korea so I settled for Japan. Love it here!

All the best on the interview. My son was in a similar position last year at this time. I was amazed how his interviews with the school board and at a private college went. He got offered jobs at both institutions and is now teaching college English courses.
I am praying for your son and his future...and for you that you have peace about his future.

Wishing him the best.
Just a tip: have him google "employment contracts in South Korea" so he knows what he's getting into.

I left the U.S. and moved to Brazil to teach English. I gave up a management job at Bank of America after 7 years and decided to spread my wings and work doing something I love in a tropical climate on the beach. I began this journey at the young age of 41. I am now 46 and have found love, peace and happiness.
Side note: Even here the JWs have tracked me down...LOL. They pop up at my job to invite me to things like the memorial, even though I have told them that I am an ex-JW. They go to English schools looking for English speakers to attend their English speaking congregations.
Anyway, I'm sure your son will love the experience. All the best to him!

Robo: he has read the accounts, how contracts sometimes are treated like "guidlines" rather than iron clad. And a lot depends on the school. He is avoiding the infamous Hagwon route.

Please spend a couple hours and get yourself familiar with the ancient structures at Petra.
We live in a civilization of deceit.
It's becoming harder to sort fact from fiction as I keep looking behind all of the curtains.

Look at ancient Egypt many If The pyramids and other building were built before the flood , but no water damage. More and more evidence shows man has been here a lot longer than 6000 years . Also study the temple of Solomon and how it's very similar to a lot of other temples . Than check out the story of Solomon and compare it to The story of Amenhotep III. What the bible says and what's reality is so different.

Serious point - it's nonsense. If Dan Brown is his portal to enlightenment then he really should read more books which are supported by historical evidence rather than the fantasy nonsense churned out about Orion and pyramids and secret historical fraternities building the same shapes.

Here's the link to the Petra video.
Pay close attention to the erosion on the site.

I had no idea the size of the site and the FACT that most of it is unexplored due to the law.

Garbage in gets garbage out Kairos. If someone is basing a theory on the nonsense that guy was citing as parts of his evidence, then there's nothing to be profitably gained from the videos for me. I've read many of his 'sources' - mainly for amusement. The best in the genre, which he sadly seems to have missed out, remains Rat Scabies and the Holy Grail. It includes DIY instructions for building an ark of the covenant too.

Are you suggesting that the dimensions of Sun, Moon and Earth are not encoded in the Pyramid?
Not to mention, all the other "coincidences" all over the planet.

I'm suggesting that video is as much fun and as accurate as anything else which could plausibly appear on Ancient Aliens, yeah.
I also don't think the measurements of any pyramid give the date for the second coming of Christ, but few people write books about that these days. Aliens, secret societies and the people of Atlantis are much more fashionable.

I'm suggesting the math is accurate.
Watch the 12:00 segment on Giza:

I feel like I'm trying to convince my wife to watch the Geoffrey Jackson testimony from the ARC. ( which she still won't watch ).

I'd like to see what people that have seen some it have to say.

I'm suggesting the math is accurate.
Watch the 12:00 segment on Giza:

◦I got to the part where he listed the grandmasters of Sion before dissolving into laughter. The chap doing it is either pranking people or is an idiot. The Sion stuff was a hoax (Helpful hint: Pentard + Pelat Affair for when Pentard admitted he'd fabricated it all). Just let that sink in. The guy who is doing this is citing a hoax as fact. I think we can spot why Dan Brown was listed as opening the doors of his perception in the earlier video you quoted. But let's get on.
◦He then starts to discuss the measurements of the great pyramid. Greaves did in fact think that the (English) foot was the unit of measurement used by the ancient Egyptians. Sadly Greaves was wrong as 5 seconds research would show. Does this perturb our intrepid seeker of truth on Youtube? Oh no, Greaves was right. Why? Because clearly when data doesn't fit theory, data is wrong. (Helpful hint: look up 'cubit')
◦So I'm 2 minutes into a 12 minute video. Both points so far made are wrong. Another 10 minutes of this is 10 minutes too long. Sorry for not watching it all. As I said, I have read most of the source material he listed. That's guff too.
◦Sorry Kairos, it's tosh. Apply some critical thinking to this, do a little research yourself to see if what this chap is saying is actually correct or whether he's pulling it out of his posterior based on the pseudo-histories he's dug up from the 'Atlantis and other crackpot theories' section of the internet.

Thanks for the reply.
You watched 2 minutes of one portion of a 3.5 hour series.
If I knew you were only going to watch a tiny bit, I would have directed you to a specific time stamp in the short vid on your behalf:
4:11-5:12

Mephis
Mephis 8 hours ago

Did you want me to debunk it segment by segment? I thought you said you'd spent hours researching this?
We have a fair idea of how good ancient people were with latitude and longitude. What your man there wants us to believe is that the Egyptians could accurately place a pyramid to a particular latitude which then reflects the speed of light.
Let's see how accurate the Egyptians were.
First off let's ditch the speed of light thing. That's in metres. The Egyptians used a cubit. I'm not sure what the speed of light is in cubits but it ain't going to match the google map latitude. Not sure they used a decimal point either, but happy to be corrected if they did.
Best I can get for comparison of latitude is the old system of degrees and minutes. If we use Ptolemy's Geography just as an example. He's consistently about 20 minutes out with his latitude and he's building on many centuries of work after the Great Pyramid had been built. Great Pyramid is 29 degrees and 58 minutes. So twenty minutes from that is 29 degrees and 38 minutes. Which would mean even if they'd used this number (which they clearly couldn't have been doing), they'd have put the Pyramid in a different place.
So, yeah, an example of trying very hard to fit a number to another number and proclaim 'I've discovered something' but in the process abandoning common sense, historical accuracy and any claim to having a critically valid method of formulating a theory.
Was that what you were looking for?

naturally leads to the question of God.
Why does man need God? Why does man create God?
I think I belived in God, because I was taught from a young age to believe in him. Now if I want to prove his non-existence I can ridicule the biblical tales, as " scientifically explicable" , and personally I have concluded it is right not to believe in an invisible God. But why was I drawn to Christ? Well he seemed a good, forgiving person, patient, peaceful, gentle, in a world of greedy, cynical, nauseating materialists.
However in my neighborhood, in my immediate surroundings I have found a lot of Christ like people, those who seem good, forgiving people, patient, gentle people, and these people are not greedy, cynical, nauseating materialists, even if they do drive nice cars and take summer holidays.
I believe people are not to be hated or despised? Or at least I have known personally very few people I have hated or despised. On the contrary I find most people in company have virtues, .This is the world I have discovered outside the Watchtower.
Anyway I am sure we all have different views, on the subject, different abstract notions of right and wrong, but my question is what do you think man/ woman actually is?

Does anyone really believe that death is only preparation for a new existence?
Does good and evil really exist?
Is the soul just vibrations of matter?
If there is no soul, and life is just a short episode in an eternity of death, then why shouldn't one enjoy oneself without restraint?
If there is no soul, and no God, is not free-will then meaningless?
Oh you could go crazy with such questions, it's spring and my mind should be on girls, football and more important things.

Why does man create God?

Well humans are and have always been terrified of being alone. Imagine that we are the highest intelligence in the Universe....Alone as the pinnacle of evolution.
Fear is the main emotion and also a dread that we are responsible for our actions in the physical world around us. Better to create "Super Parents", gods and goddesses that take away that personal responsibility for our thoughts and actions (behaviours).

Freud allegedly said.."Most people don't want freedom because freedom requires responsibility and most people are frightened of responsibility"
Better to be slaves of christ??

Being a slave of Christ is no big deal. He doesn't have a bunch of stupid rules. Hes kinda kewl, imo. You can pretty much do as you please, he's invisible and doesn't bother you. Only asks that you love and do good to others.
It's men that are the problem. Too many use religion to make you a slave to them.

Thank you for your reply Lieu.
You say " being a slave to Christ is no big deal, He doesn't have a bunch of stupid rules" Well personally I think being a slave too anybody is a big deal. But I think the important point you are making, is that, with Christ you have a purpose in life? see a purpose in creation? That copulation, free-will, fate - are all part of a master plan?
If the above assumption is true, then you must believe in other worlds? whilst I am inclined to believe there is only one world with life on, ours, the earth? But it does raise the question, if only atoms and motion exist, can atoms and motion fall in love?

This is a notice from the Shire in which I live .
"Signs placed on Naturestrips ,roadsides ,and other public land require a permit from the Shire which has identified locations in each town where signs can be erected once a permit is granted .
Their is a photo of heaps of signs that have been impounded that don`t have a permit.
And I would imagine their is a cost involved in this.
Would that be a valid reason , the cost , that I don`t ever see a witnessing cart/trolley in my shire ?

My son has a very significant interview today..

he is just days away from graduation with his bachelor's in english, and today, he has an interview with a recruiter for an agency that help with finding teaching positions in south korea.. i took it upon myself to research the company and his interviewer, and it's been high marks all around on both of them.

so that's a great ease on my mind.i just hope the interview (over the phone) goes well, and results in the next steps to getting a position.my son spent a month in seoul last summer, an loved the place.

he has friends out there as well, including a young man that he attended classes with here in the states, so i think that's a real plus in taking this very giant leap.when i was his age, i was slowly working my way through a two year degree, still living at home, and aspiring to nothing more than a job as a repairman.

The other day I was perusing on Facebook and stumbled on a sponsored advertisement for Ring Home Security. The commercial was saying how you can monitor unwanted soliciting without answering the door. Anyway, the solicitors at the door were JW's offering the awake and watchtower. The homeowner (through an intercom) declined and the jdubs were on their way.
Here it is: http://youtu.be/VzakNorPBnM
This video is no longer on facebook or the ring.com website. I wonder if they were forced to take down by the borg

Good marketing. They know that nobody wants to talk with JW's. I saw one the other day where the homeowner acts all cordial and invites the JW's inside. Down a hallway and through a door that opens outside to a sheer drop off!

I'm no Lawyer ( probably should've been... ), but I think it's wrong to use footage of actual people without their consent. I could be wrong.
If the security company had hired some actors to portray JWs, that would be different. Like I said, I could be wrong.

Doubt it was a commercial... probably a customer story that the customer took down. Couldn't find this one, but found another one under their customer stories on the website. Gray bible gives it away.

It seems to me that if someone comes to a stranger's door uninvited that the householder has every right to record the visit and to use the recording in any legal way. There may be restrictions in some locations as to using the recording in court (consent issues) but that's a whole 'nuther discussion.

Anna: you're partway there. The private individual could do whatever they want with the video. However, in the case of advertising or some sort of TV show, the person has to give consent.
Ever watch one of those candid camera shows? Some faces are blurred out and others aren't. The ones that aren't blurred gave consent (before or after the recording). The others didn't for whatever reason.
