Make VOTING in EVERY Federal, State, and Local election a legal REQUIREMENT nationwide, with a stiff monetary FINE and JAIL time if you don't, like Australia does. And if you can't produce proof of voting, you can't renew you driver's license, car license, fishing license, hunting license, cash a check, use a credit card, etc. Either you PARTICIPATE in democracy, or you DON'T.

You didn't get the memo that we have to constantly pretend it's not about racism, did you?
It's totally NOT about prejudices of various types.
The Great Bathroom Cooties Panic of 2016 is TOTALLY NOT about anti-trans prejudice (and, hopefully, getting old people who are skeeved out by trans people to vote GOP in November!). No, it's not about any of that at all.
The attack on voting rights is TOTALLY NOT about trying to prevent minorities, particularly Blacks and Hispanics, from voting!
The "war on drugs" was NOT AT ALL about targeting Black people.
the anti-same sex marriage crew were TOTALLY NOT motivated by bigotry, they were protecting the "sanctity" of marriage for straight people! By keeping the icky gays out...but that's TOTALLY NOT bigoted!
And it goes on....
Don't you see? Conservatives aren't racists! The GOP isn't America's largest white nationalist organization!

And I am dumbfounded by the number of working poor folk who actually reject calls for increasing the minimum wage by any amount, or often wage increases in general.
These people really think that living wages will hurt businesses or cause them to flee the country. They think of profitable multi-nationals as fragile little flowers. They also see no problem with exorbitant CEO pay because they think he or she works hard and earns it: They deserve to be that rich because they are smart business people. Like Donald Trump.
But for everyone else it's a different story.
Low pay? Find another job if you don't like it.
Unsafe working conditions? Find another job if you don't like it.
Scheduled hours that vary from 0 to 32 every week, from day to night? Find another job if you don't like it.
No paid time off, draconian attendance policies, no maternity leave? Find another job if you don't like it.
Environmental regulations, corporate taxation and and licensing? Government overreach.
Unions? Corrupt, irrelevant, and worthless.
The people I hear this coming from is not all cranky retirees. It's a lot of working poor themselves, whose spouses work also, but have a really twisted view of the work ethic and an inability on their part to consider that their contributions make companies successful. Companies make money BECAUSE of them, not IN SPITE of them.
My great uncle was part of the Sit Down Strike in 1938. He'd put a boot up a few asses if he saw what many workers today accept as normal employment conditions.

I hear you. The working poor have been propagandized for the last half century.
The "logic" of the market has been internalized...it's the saddest thing imaginable. Aldo, horribly dangerous as the actions of the working classes actually help the plutocrats...I mean, come on, that's the "long con" that is the GOP: get the working classes to vote against their own economic interests and for those of the plutocracy. It's been so successful it's scary.

Privileged Kaintuckers (Kim Davis, for example) have a key to their own executive outhouses -- the kind that come complete with their own individual three-cob hygiene packets. Two orange, one white.
First they use an orange one, then a white one to see if they need to use the second orange one. That way, they're maximum clean & fresh, and ready for Bevin to shit all over them again...

What is it about the word 'guideline' do they not understand? It is not a law or an order to do anything. It is simply a guide to help with concerns about handling the situation based on questions submitted after the dumbass GOP decided to make something out of nothing. Not only is this the very definition of 'frivolous lawsuit', I was not aware a state could sue the federal government like this. I guess they will do anything to keep the sheeple sidetracked from the real issues while they add BS amendments to bills no one is paying attention too.

To be clear, they should be up in arms over all of it, up to and including the human/civil/equal rights issue. If that's what you meant, then yes, I completely agree. It has astounded me that no one seems to say anything about no raises to the minimum wage or preventing people from pursuing legal recourse if they are discriminated against, and so on and so on, ad nausem. That bill is "states rights" on steroids. I've been worried for quote awhile that they expect to lose on the rights issue but plan on nobody challenging the rest. They think as long as they get rid of the issue getting the majority of the attention, then the attention will go away once they are forced to change it.

While true, I don't want anyone to think that because the rights issue is a wedge issue, that it isn't important or needs to be set aside in favor of going after all other points. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It's up to us to keep the entire bill in the spotlight and in the crosshairs.

What else are you going to do to top the Ark Encounter, the Creation Museum and the shitkicker serial adultery sideshow known as Kim Davis? Well, for starters you could build a museum to document the Genesis story of the State of Kentucky. Here is the Biblical text, lightly edited:
Lot and his two daughters left Virginia and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Virginia. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the South. Let’s get our father to drink everclear and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.” That night they got their father to drink some shine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I fucked my father. Let’s get him to drink everclear again tonight, and you go in and fuck him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” So they got their father to drink shine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and fucked him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father. The older daughter had a son, and she named him Tucky; he is the father of the Kentuckians of today. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Jed; he is the star of The Hills Have Eyes Meet The Children of the Corn of today.
Genesis 19:30-38, Book of Moron.

If Gov. Bevin wins on this, next thing you know he'll be advocating that local school boards should have the right to choose whether to keep their schools racially pure. It's just the first step in the Republican quest to turn back the clock - put trans and gay folks back into the closet, deny women reproductive health care, bring back segregation and anti-miscegenation laws.

I was just going to say -- they've been fighting the same basic battles for 150 years or more. Just cut and paste the cause and drop it into the text. They haven't WON one yet, but, by cracky, ONE day they'll get the ni**ers back onto the plantations and farms (not being a "slave state" didn't mean that you didn't own "slaves"), and the women chained to the wood-stoves poppin' out one field hand a year the way Gawd Almighty INTENDED it! Oh, and if you divorce your wife, she's STILL your sister. Some of those little towns only had two or three last names in the entire phone book!
JEEEEEEE-zuz was a WHITE Democrat (now Republican), and don't YOU fergit it!
There are some very serious, peer-reviewed scholarly studies of what brought about the Southern temperament ... basically poor, white, uneducated people from Scotland and Ireland who brought with them a particularly MEAN AND NASTY version of Calvinism / Presbyterianism (see Northern Ireland and the Wee Free Kirk for details) ... Southern Baptist and Church of God of Cleveland, TN (Inc.) were added to that toxic stew later.
Fascinating ... wish I could find the references, but it's midnight, and I should have been in bed HOURS ago <g>. Try Googling "Southern Cussedness."
I grew up among those people; I get to say what I think of them (chuckle).

I know why it happens though. Kentucky is one of four northernmost states considered to be a part of the south, the other three being MO, WV and VA.
an easy way to remember which way Kentucky went is to remember how West Virginia came into being: Virginia was Confederate and the western part of the state didn't want to be involved with the Confederacy, voting to split from the rest of the state.
Virginia was the northernmost of the Confederacy, the Confederates made claims on various other states including Kentucky but never had a grip on them aside from small skirmishes along the Tennessee borders.
today's history lesson brought to you by the thunderstorm I can't exercise in.

Kentucky, i would feel sorry for you but you gave us that woman we hate that shall not be named, and gave yourselves a governor that will spend taxpayer dime to defend a lawsuit that won't end in their favor. They had options, Jack Conway, or Matt Bevin, and instead of making a reasonable decision, they chose the radical who will defended a dumbass who wanted to be paid to not do her job, and take away Kynect which helped the people of the state, and they loved until they found out it was "obamacare" and then immediately they hated it despite the good it did.
Maybe they'll have to suffer like Louisiana is, things get so terribly bad that they have to elect someone who doesn't have a "R" next to their name to run their state.

Kentucky To Join Anti-Transgender Suit Against Feds
May 29, 2016 Civil Rights, LGBT News

Law Newz reports:

On Friday, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin promised his state would join several others in a lawsuit fighting the Obama administration’s transgender bathroom guideline. “The federal government has no authority to dictate local school districts’ bathroom and locker room policies,” he said in a statement. “The Obama Administration’s transgender policy ‘guidelines’ are an absurd federal overreach into a local issue.”
Bevin, who is a Republican, took time to throw shade at a Democratic rival: “Unfortunately, (Kentucky) Attorney General Andy Beshear is unwilling to protect Kentucky’s control over local issues. Therefore, my administration will do so by joining this lawsuit. We are committed to protecting the Tenth Amendment and fighting federal overreach into state and local issues.”
“The Governor’s statement is not truthful,” Beshear wrote in his statement on Friday. “The Office of the Attorney General has been closely reviewing this matter. On the day the federal government issued its guidance, the governor stated he was researching legal options. I expected to be consulted on those options, but my office has not received a single phone call from the governor or his attorneys on this matter.”

They may think they're bringing attention to a serious safety threat (or more honestly, that they are alerting people that Target, how-dare-they, is participating in the increase of tolerance towards transgender people.) But what they are actually bringing attention to is how extremist, intolerant, out-of-touch, and non-compassionate their religious movement is.

Exactly. I can guarantee you one thing, the executives at Target the ones you make the decisions, after watching these videos are thinking how right they are. This display of anti gay, anti transgender Christian HATRED only makes them even more determined that they made the right decision, gotta be, I can't see it any other way.

When I see the videos, notice how most of them finish in under 10 minutes? They know police response times vary, but if s/he is just carrying on and not damaging anything in any way, they will just walk out after the tirade.
If I were the police, and this happened once in a store, I'd tell the manager I'll wait in the back in case another person shows up. This is not happening at all of them, just certain ones.

These people are not religious, Crewman.
They use the guise of religion to mask their regressive political agenda, because covering their smelly-turd-of-a-political-agenda with a thin veneer of "religion" means, in America today, we are forced to pretend the turd doesn't stink.
Problem is, as social progress moves onward the poop smell emanating from their smelly-turd-of-a-political-agenda gets smellier and smellier...and people have a harder time pretending it doesn't stink.
Because, it does.

Nope, they are indeed religious. It is their religion that motivates this. Didn't you hear "God, Jesus Christ, repent, abomination, etc." Don't try to separate their hate and intolerance from their religion. "God is not tolerant" one of them said. I liked the guy who said "Your god is fake."

These people don't read the Bible.
In surveys, atheists know more about the Bible than they do.
They are political regressives who wrap their regressive views in religion, and do so in sorta/kinda convincing way. I mean, their political meetings happen in a church, after all.
But these people are not truly religious. Fundamentalist Christianity is, at base, white nationalism in disguise.

Cant say I agree.
Their religion is just a thin veneer used to disguise a white nationalist agenda. They do a pretty good job of disguising it, though. So there's that.
But, still, fundamentalist Christianity is 75-85% white nationalism, with just a residual of Christianity.
Think of it as a cake, the white nationalism is the actual cake, with the butter cream frosting (white, naturally) covering the outside.
You could call that "frosting", especially since that's most of what you see as a casual observer. But anyone who's eaten cake will know the frosting is only a small fraction of the total.
Fundamentalist Christianity is that way, it's a frosting of primitive religion masking as white, fluffy, cakey interior of pure white nationalism.

I disagree. This has the same smell as religion all over the world, in all times.
This is what religion IS. A way to control the masses.
It might not feel that way to individual people who find spiritual strength and comfort in it, but that's because they don't know that the strength and comfort comes from within, not from the religion.
I know a lot of decent, moral, religious people. It may appear that it's the religion that made them that way, but the only reason religion has that effect on them is because their heart and core always was good and decent - it's they who make the religion good, not the other way around.

These are the same people who think that the sexual identity of a cisman in a dress is female. They use words to mean what they want them to mean, not what they really mean. They *want* their actions to be seen as Christian, so in their mind, they are Christian. Those of us who know better, know that they aren't.

I'd like to share a very beautiful and heartwarming personal experience with all the JMG family that I had yesterday with my family. Sometimes when I see so much hate I have to remind myself and others how much love there really is in our world. The beginning of my story may seem sad but read through to the end I think it is worth it, and I hope you also think so.
My brother Matt passed away when he was 35 it was oh so many years ago and he was a great man and has been missed. He left behind a beautiful woman he called his wife and friend a daughter jut 6 and a son 4. My sister in-law is remarried and her new husband was welcomed into our family like another brother. He has raised my niece and nephew like they were his own.
Yesterday my Niece got married and it was an amazing over the top wedding not flashy over the top but giant family over the top 300+ guests no one was left out it's how we roll.
So reception is happening and all the chosen friends and family are giving their boring speeches that mean something to the speech giver, but come-on we all know they get boring after ten of them. So last man up is my sister in-law's husband he does the blah blah blah and then out of no where the following happens. He pulls some documents from his suit pocket and I'm thinking he bought them a house or something like that and he says " these are your adoption papers (nice and nephew names) I should have done it sooner but I never wanted you to forget you real father but you are my children and I am part of this god dammed amazing family so there it's done." Boom! Not a single dry eye in the place even the staff stopped working and joined in to feel our love. Think it's over keep reading.
My sister in-law is truly last up the married couple on stage her husband her son and his fiancée (they are gay) yup my family is full of us. She proceeds to take apart my niece's bouquet and procures an a gold band that only she knows is there and tells us " this was Matt's wedding band and I wanted him at the wedding and I like to now give this same ring to my son to have as his band when he marries the man that we will be welcoming into this family." The rest of the evening is the most amazing night of my life there are no words to describe it but PURE LOVE.
I hope you all enjoyed a small part of Colin/Gingers life and it brings some love and hope into you lives as well.
For the Haters and Bigots out there this is what LOVE is not some shit you read in a made up book.
Peace and Love to you all,
Ginger Snap

p.s. I don't want to hear any crap about my grammar I know it's a mess but so am I typing this post.

I'v shared lots of my personal stories here of friends and family some happy some not so happy in hopes that it enriches someone's day. Yeah and some of my posts take off on the crazy bitch train too.

I needed this to go public somewhere because I don't FB and I wanted someone anyone to gain even one second of hope, love or happiness from it something I've had my whole life and I forget it sometimes.
Humans are capable of so much hate, horror and love against each other and so many of the billions of us on the planet choose the first two over LOVE and I'll never till my last day understand why.

It's not "masculine" enough to fit their cultural tastes. Jesus when resisted the (four) temptations so that they could be free to fall into everyone of them (only the hunger of their own belly, use of state power, testing God, and living a "normal" life).

I totally agree with you that it is unadulterated BULLSHIT!
They cannot legally go around calling anyone the "N" word, or calling Italians, Spanish, Chinese, Irish, Polish and other immigrants derogatory and insulting names anymore, but they have the "right" to call LGBT people any degrading name of their choosing with total impunity?
What's wrong with this picture?

Religion. Just as certain non-white races are seen unjustly in this culture as the face of crime in America (hence unjust treatment by law enforcement officials and some courts), sexual minorities are seen unjustly as the face of "sin" in America, and religious "speech" promulgating this injustice almost always gets a free pass.

Personally, I would find it satisfying to forcibly eject disruptive protesters but the optics would not be good. In fact it is probably wise that Target shows such restraint.

I still cannot comprehend, in the year 2016 (based on an arbitrary fairy tale starting point) that people still believe this fucking insanity.
Let's say you are an adherent of an Abrahamic religion, then you believe that god wiped out the entire planet and only those aboard a tiny vessel survived to repopulate the earth via insestual relationships for a second time. However, if that is true then why do the far more advanced Indus Valley and Chinese Civilizations make no mention of it?
Oh right, because it's all bullshit.

Even further back. I'm reading a book called "The Vice Clique: Portland's Great Sex Scandal" that covers the hysteria surrounding the discovery that some dudes like to engage in fellatio. The "sting" happened in 1912. That's what these troglodytes want to go back to.

It wasn't a bordello. It was a group of men that socialized together and introduced one another to other members of the group.
Because one of the first to be accused lived at the local YMCA (the largest in the country at that time), a local yellow rag tried (and for the most part, succeeded) in implicating the YMCA as a whole.
If you're interested in reading more, I believe the only place new copies of the book are available is via Powell's Espresso Book Machine at Powell's Bookstore. You should be able to order a book online through Powell's website.

These people always say something to the effect of "you can't touch me or I'll sue for assault. However, there is a point when a customer is trying to get by the "welcome to Target lady" and she deliberately turns the bullhorn directly towards his ear.
That could cause some serious damage and at the very least temporary hearing loss.
He should sue.

Isn't past time to fight back American Family Association, a SPLC identified hate group, & start organizing protests at the headquarters in sticks of Tupelo, Mississippi. This group organizes and inspires more hatred of the LGBTQ than any other organization except maybe odious Tony Perkins' Family Research Counsel (FRC).

Sadly they've already been crop dusted by their church with the love of the invisible sky daddy.
It was ok as long as we didn't have to see them when they were "confined" to their church, but now that they are trotting around in private businesses and spreading their "love", people are getting a better understanding of what actually goes on in those churches.

Of course, fully tongue-in-cheek so that anyone actually listening to the words would know it's comedy....or a social experiment! yeah...that's it...a social experiment.

if they stick a bullhorn in your face and use it, if you can think/act fast enough, fall on the ground holding your ears screaming & writhing in pain, then curl into a fetal position, still holding your head, sobbing & screaming until they call you an ambulance.
It *is* assault, but if no one seems injured, no crime has been committed.
Course, I try to remember doing that anytime anyone plays John Tesh near me.

I've always been somewhat protective in regards to my hearing. Even as a kid - I have actually left concerts because it was simply too loud - and it did hurt. It's not that I am some extremist about it - but I sure as hell wouldn't just take that kind of non-sense being screamed at me.
Now, at 61, the last thing I need is to have hearing loss. I got hair loss, my ripped abs are lost, I got vision loss, and even ass loss. So, I am just not going let my hearing be abused. no sireeee!
Many, many years ago I worked at Avondale Shipyards. The line I was assigned to was down, so they put us out in the yard on these hanging sheets of steel with stick welders. Some asshole walked behind mine and smacked the shit out of it with a sledge hammer. I actually went to my knees. Completely dis-oriented. Felt like I was gonna puke. When I got my shit back together, I made my way to the supe - told him what happened and checked out. He found out who did it (I didn't know) - and they were gone.

The interpretation of "Religious Freedom" has been stretched to the limit here in the USA.
This has given the religious crazies free reign to do just about anything to others in society in the name of religion and get away with it.

considering these people base their belief system on an extremely violent text that commands them to murder people, I would consider anyone to defines themselves as 'christian', especially those who would demonstrate such a surprising lack of social awareness such as these lovely bullhorn wielding neanderthals, as potentially violent & a threat to the safety & wellbeing of all around them.
I'd think the correct course of action is taking them out like a rare gorilla eyeing his afternoon snack.

when religious people knock on my door I tell them quite clearly, "You have a book that commands you to kill me. I take that as a credible threat of violence. You have 10 seconds to remove yourself from my property before I take further action."
I've never had to.

That one from New York I think had to be told to use the word 'rebuke', since I'm sure she has no idea what it means. She also had to talk herself into doing it, and again, this is being done when the place is almost empty. They don't want opposition or to be heard by the people there; they just want to show off on youtube.

He's now in US Congress in Bachmann's Congresscritter (district) seat and he has also endorsed Trump.
At least Emmer didn't get to be Minnesota governor or we'd be another Wisconsin or Michigan, etc.
Also, that is true, Target hasn't not always been a friend to the LGBT community in the past.

Well, we don't have Target in Canada - but when I'm in the states, I won't set foot in one. Others may wave the flag that Target is "oh such an ally" but I see a big difference between the people who've always been there for us, and the people who just realized it was no longer financially, socially, or politically feasible to continue discriminating against us.
It's nice, but they don't get my money.

I think people should immediately point out Matthew 6:5-6 and yell that they are committing a sin Jesus does not approve of and if anything, it's CHRISTIANS he wants in the closet:
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray
standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by
others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your
Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in
secret, will reward you.

It is private property, why can't security touch them?
The police certainly could. Perhaps Target needs to hire some undercover cops to tase the halo right off their holy heads before physically throwing them out the front door.
This will have the opposite affect of what they want.

Chances are, these are stores in the old Confederate States. It's unlikely that this is happening in Oregon or California.
Those people with that Southern antebellum thinking, always have to be dragged kicking and screaming, into the progressive era.

You know, their Jebbus was just fine with slavery. Cuz you can find lots of passages in their holy book, that are explicitly pro slavery.
It tells them how to treat their slaves, not that they shouldn't have any.

These people are disturbing the customers that are minding they're own business, running down the aisles screaming and yelling about jesus and something about there being perverts in the bathroom. They need to put up security outside the stores when these psychos try and come to ruin peoples shopping experience
You want a real pedophile that preyed in the bathroom. i'll give you one, but its not going to be what they expect, and most likely act like nursery children denying that such thing happened. BTW dig around your local news, you never know what your going to find.
