These photos were taken in 2013.
Publishers chatting away during the field service were quite common around my neighborhood few years ago.
but they are rarely seen in these days.

I've been out in field service in Japan before. Went from door to door where most people were out or did not answer the door & also held placards at a train station. It was a complete waste of time...

Giodarno, yes the decrease in publishers is shown in the Yearbook and has been happening over several successive years. I dont have the numbers on hand but will try to get hold of them when I have access to my home computer (I'm on a tablet at the moment). The general Japanese population is also decreasing.

Branch Vists the new Regional Convention?

So there was a mention yesterday about "next year's" branch visit and this being streamed.
Is there a chance these will become the new Regional Convention? Consider the evidence:
- branches being closed down or downsized
- emergence of "super branches" - US, Japan, South Africa, Germany
- streaming technology increasingly in place in halls and the technology being used more and more
- use of GB helpers to go to branches instead of it having to be GB members
- desire to reduce the overhead of organising large stadium events indicated by increasing "simplification" and use of pre-prepared video presentations
- the removal of the "district" both as a name and as an administrative grouping with a DO. Region can be as large or small as they want
If you had a two day event you could probably hit all the people in a branch territory in two weekends with a combination of assembly hall and kingdom hall presentations.
So we may have just be having a new yearly special meeting to listen to a branch visit session or could this be the latest in a line of baby steps to moving the RC away from stadiums to halls?

Even with all the logistics, convention's are a big money maker-at least in western lands

konceptual99
konceptual99 21 minutes ago
That's a good point and probably the number one reason for keeping them the way they are but I don't think anything is sacrosanct and perhaps the financial impact is not as great as we might think or is there is (or has been) a slide in donations at the conventions.

sir82
sir82 19 minutes ago

Yeah, that's exactly the problem - JWs feel compelled to "contribute big" when they attend a "big" event.
RCs are as big as it gets most of the time. Each one generates 10's if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Conventions are far too efficient at generating income for "mama" to be eradicated.
I do think, eventually, the WTS will finally succumb to common sense and make them 2 days long, though.

according to quantum theory and non-locality, two particles, can act in unity.

for example, take a and b (photons or electrons for example).

pair them, then separate them, and put them on either side of the planet.

eg, faiths such as mormons, and others that have odd beliefs .... but, witnesses don't seem to be able to apply the same analytical or critical thinking to their own wacky beliefs!.

Some cong-member asked my wife this question (in the street, stopping her on her bicycle) in a rather police-like fashion. I wasn't there so I don't know her immediate reaction and response, but she got very upset afterwards and one day later this still occupies her mind. I believe it's an emotional mix of anger, sadness, shame and guilt.

She doesn't like this intrusion in her privacy from some JWs and on the next occasion she will try to make this person respect her boundaries (or just ignore her). It has happened before with other people, but she blames the individuals for their inappropiate actions and doesn't (want to?) see that it's mostly the JW corporate culture that promotes this kind of thinking and behaviour.
How can I capitalize on this (trying to wake her up just a little bit more)? And how can I make her feel less shame and guilt? There were several reasons she didn't go to some meetings recently. Either somebody in the family was sick or we had better and more fun things to do as a family (which I encourage of course).

Tell them you can not give up oral sex in your marriage and it really bothers your conscience. Therefore, you are ashamed to enter the Kingdom Hall. Watch them, as there jaws hit the floor and they make a quick exit.
OR
You could also tell them you are having financial problems and really could use some help from the "friends." Guaranteed to make any JW run like hell, never to be seen again. Lol

Typical JW fashion. At a witness funeral a JW got in my non jw uncles face and started preaching to him and he had to put her in her place. Same woman also got in another ladies face who hasn't been to meeting in a long time and said you better get back to meeting because the society is moving forward at a fast pace and you don't wanna miss the train.

In the beginning of my "fade" years ago I remember answering this nosy question by saying it was more upbuilding to stay home!
As far as JWs getting in anybody's face in front of other people - that happened to me once and I deflected it with sarcastic humor.
This is why I don't want to be around groups of Witnesses anywhere. The herd mentality always gives some JW idiot the confidence to be nervy. I don't want to have to be nasty to some Witness, because I will.

Well a couple thoughts come to mind...
on the shame and guilt part of your question...
tell her Jehovah understands why she hasnt made the meetings. He sees her heart and knows she is a good person.
Tell her the amount of meetings a week is a man nade invention not a God made one. After all, a few years ago we wouldnt dream of skipping a book study mid week and now its ok! Same with a four day assembly - now its 3 and thats ok!
Public talk was an hour - wouldnt dream of leaving half way through...now its a half hour and thats OK!
The times and dates and lengths of meetings will always change. And that is all ok.
The brothers at Bethel farm used to skip meetings when the orchards were ready for picking and that was GB sanctioned.
No one talks much about that but there are many, many reasons why skipping meetings is perfectly ok and has zero to do with Jehovah.
That chinese brother in prison for years was never at a meeting and he kept his own personal faith strong and was held up as a sterling example.
If you sit the reason he didnt make the meetings aside, the point remains, one can be as spiritual as one desires even with years of "missed" meetings.
That is the take away from his experience.
As for the first part of your question, the more time she is away from the constant litany of indoctrination, the more her eyes will open naturally. Its like letting in fresh air, so to speak

Thank you for your replies, especially millie!
My wife is actually spending more and more time with family and non JWs and less and less time with JWs and JW activities. "Breathing fresh air" and liking it, too. She doesn't know the word "fading", but to me it seems like she is maybe subconsciously doing just that. My concern is about what I read on here, some user experiences. That some JWs leave the Org but the org never leaves them. I fear that deep down she will always think that they are actually right, at least about the more fundamental stuff. I see my job is to show her that leaving the Org doesn't mean you have to leave Jehovah and Jesus, too. And that if the GB is wrong about some small things, or the elder/cong handles some local stuff badly, how can you still be sure that they are right about the important stuff and the big things.

Gorbatchov
Gorbatchov 3 hours ago

in this recognizable situation I gave an elder the reply "I understand you feel obligate to ask me this question and I respect you. I hope you respect me, having no intention to give a reaction". He tried again ofcourse and I told him again "I respect you, I hope you respect me" and again. He gave the last words "no, i don't respect you" and that was it, he showed his cards.

Today's text:

Saturday, April 30

The little one will become a thousand and the small one a mighty nation. I myself, Jehovah, will speed it up in its own time.—Isa. 60:22.

Worldwide, there are now well over 7,900,000 Witnesses, with millions more associating with them, especially during the annual observance of the Memorial. We do not boast in numbers, for it is ‘God who keeps making things grow.’ (1 Cor. 3:5-7) Nevertheless, it is evident that the great crowd is growing and becoming greater with each passing year. (Rev. 7:9) There has been remarkable growth in the number of God’s servants because Jehovah himself is backing his Witnesses. (Isa. 43:10-12) At one time, the anointed remnant were like “the little one,” but their number grew as other spiritual Israelites were brought into God’s organization. (Gal. 6:16) Because of Jehovah’s blessing over the years, the increase continues with the gathering of the great crowd. w145/15 4:7, 8

At this point, I'm thinking to myself: WTF did I just read???
Let's recap some of the statements made:
- Nevertheless, it is evident that the great crowd is growing and becoming greater with each passing year.
- There has been remarkable growth in the number of God’s servants because Jehovah himself is backing his Witnesses.
- Because of Jehovah’s blessing over the years, the increase continues with the gathering of the great crowd.
Seriously???
Here are how things are: Only 7 million+ out of 7 BILLION+ people would be saved at Armageddon, and JW's are giving Jehovah credit for this pathetic achievement???
Good job, Jehovah. Keep up the good work!

We do not boast in numbers,
whaaaa? wait. Are they not publishing the "memorial numbers" this year? And excuse me :cough cough: the WTBTS does not boast in numbers? Seriously?
Those numbers are down are they not? Hmm easier to begin to ignore the numbers after name decades of publishing them then, and pridefully boast that "We do not boast in numbers".

Demographic Study
December 18, 2012
The Global Religious Landscape

Christians

Christians number 2.2 billion, or about one-in-three (32%) people worldwide. About half of all Christians are Catholic (50%). An estimated 37% of Christians belong to the Protestant tradition, broadly defined to include Anglicans as well as independent and nondenominational churches. The Orthodox Communion, including the Greek and Russian Orthodox, make up 12% of Christians. And people who belong to other traditions that view themselves as Christian (including Christian Scientists, Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses) make up about 1% of the global Christian population.7
Looks like Jehovah's witness are in last place 1% of the global Christian population. Statistically looks like God is with the Catholics. We need to start fact checking these truths!

Funny text. If God was truly backing the work we would see numbers similar to the first century when thousands would convert in a single day.
If God truly existed and "didn't want anyone to be destroyed," then you would see mass conversions of people. Instead we see massive amounts of people leaving the org.

D..Explain,
At one time, the anointed remnant were like"the little one" but their number grew
as other spiritual Israelities brought into God's organization.
So are the FDS aka GB growing in number.

Hmmm, I found at least one significant error:

Nevertheless, it is evident that the great crowd anointed remnant of partakers is growing and becoming greater with each passing year.
There, that's a little more accurate.

"I myself, Jehovah, will speed it up in its own time." Yup it's moving right along. Over 40 years since 1975. Over 100 years since the return if Christ in 1914. Does anyone remember how they went full throttle in the years preceding 1975? I'm amazed that anyone still buys into their BS. Same old lies to the same old people. Nothing ever changes in Jehovah land.

I quit: We boldly proclaimed prior to 1975 to our family and friends. this is your last opportunity to
be saved, trust me God is my witness before 1975 end if you don't become a JW you will be
burnt to a crisp.
And we still remain in the crazy organization after 1975 passed.LOL

Classic brainwashing.
Closing branch offices.
Reducing the frequency of meetings.
Reducing the # of hours required to call yourself a pioneer.
Firing special pioneers.
Didn't they close Gilead too?
Selling off the world headquarters and downsizing.
Stopping publications.
Wow.

Speeding up, I don't think so. The truth is, these numbers are actually showing a REAL stagnation.
I was a "born in", and was born in 1975. I was there as a child, right after the "hype" of 75, and the numbers from the early 80's to current, are marginal, if that. They were always, since the 80's, around 6 to 7 million in numbers.
For them to be at just the higher end of 7 million, BUT at almost 30 years later, is NOTHING. That can barely be considered growth.
As others have said, branches are closing, publishing is being cut tremendously, halls being sold, hours being reduced, meetings being cut, bethelites laid off, special pioneers being fired, and HEADQUARTERS being reduced. How is this a "growing" religion. REMEMBER this is supposed to be the END, the LAST DAYS before the big A. This is it, THIS is supposed to be the "BIG PUSH", and its all BULLSHIT.
They are SCARED shitless of THEIR numbers, which they inflate to begin with, and it DISPROVES their own rhetoric, so the next move will be them STOPPING to print numbers all together.

The other fact that makes this statement a lie is that in some countries there's an actual decease in JW membership such as in Japan and Russia.

The latest number of newly baptized in the US has dropped 40 % in 2015.

So maybe Jehovah isn't putting his blessings toward the WTS/JWS anymore ?.
Too much lying and bullshitting my guess !
Isn't the theme of this year District assembly ? ......
" Loyalty to the Watchtower Corporation is Being Loyal to Jehovah "

Maybe it's just me, but i do believe that the Jehovah Witness brand as we know it will be solely JW or JW . org eventually.
The reason being is because if you do a search on google or youtube for Jehovah witness. so much bad publicity
shows up that it is hard for them to get away from it.
So in order for them to continue to distance themselves from there past. They eventually will be know as JW or JW. org.
kinda like Cher or Prince or Bono or Beyonce or Modonna.
LOL what a joke this cult is.

I suspect they'll maintain the Jehovah's Witnesses moniker internally, but it's definitely par for the course for cults to use false names or multiple different names for the purposes of recruiting. JWs have always done this - I can't imagine they'd get as many members in the ministry if they'd gone door to door claiming to represent the watchtower bible and tract society. Instead, they hide their affiliation with the corporation until the new recruit is thoroughly indoctrinated. With the JW short-hand name they're just doing more of the same.

Looking on Google maps, I found the presence of IBM, just oppositie to the JW headquarters in Warwick.
So, jw.org are not the only one surrounding the lakes in the forest in Warwick.

JW, IBM, what's more on the spot there?
Not a bad place to build your new HQ.

At a certain point in time, I am sad to say, being a JW may have been my whole life. I knew myself by what others said about me. I was called Brother by hundreds, and it sounded right.

I knew my place and rank in the organization. We were an army of believers and everybody in an army has a place and rank.
My expectations were limited and so they were always fulfilled. I was comfortable with my beliefs because they were absolute, immutable, never changing with time......... or so I thought. I was content............until I wasn’t.
This happened when I was in my very early twenties. I was no longer the 16 year old boy who decided to get Baptized because it was expected. Because my witness friends were getting baptized........... because there was this really cute sister.

I must confess.....I am a reader. “you read too much”...... I was told. But what I read slowly changed me in wondrous ways because knowledge is a good thing to base decisions on. Rational ignorance is the mainstay of most high control religions. It is rational that one doesn't waste time on learning about things that are not tolerated within the belief structure.

So there came a time when I had to admit that the ‘truth’ had become murky, questionable and often embarrassing......to me. All of it's truths were nothing more then speculation.

I did not learn the truth about the truth for many years. I just knew it wasn’t the truth one day while I was pioneering. I had taken a lunch break on a nice spring day. I parked near the Town’s grammar school. The kids were out in the school yard, it was recess time and they were running, playing.........I remembered my own childhood and how nice it was to be so carefree. Then I thought these very children were going to die when Armageddon came. NO. That was absurd....evil. What did I really believe.....well it wasn’t that. That moment changed it all for me. It was a thread that once pulled........ unraveled everything.
This was decades before the internet, a decade or so before Ray Franz wrote C OF C. I read what I could find and thought it through.
I was not in a rush....... My vessel was not by any means an empty vessel............... it was filled to the brim with murky untruths. So It took a while to bail out a cup of failed truth and replace it with a cup of fresh knowledge. I guess I could have dumped the vessel out but in all honesty what did I have to replace my beliefs with? Also newly married I didn’t want to ask my wife, who was my pioneer partner, to make such an abrupt change.

Avoiding Bethel I had opted to pioneer where the need was great after High School. So eventually I held down three congregation positions and gave the one hour public talk all over our circuit and other circuits. I was never alone when I went off to give my one hour talk....my ego was always with me.

We used to have a general outline back in those times so a speaker had greater latitude. As understanding grew my talk evolved into something that more closely reflected my new sensibility. I skirted anything controversial choosing instead to be kind and uplifting. Looking back it appears that my Ego must not have liked the direction I was taking as it began to shun me.

As my thinking evolved I soon came to a point where I pleaded fatigue and stopped giving the public talk. I did the minimum necessary to avoid stumbling anyone. I also made plans with my wife to relocate. I had told my wife about my change of thinking and she was very supportive.....which was easy for her, as I came to find out that she had never believed in anything the organization called the Truth!

At this point I had come to understand that the WTBTS was reckless with the health, welfare and education of their believers. Armageddon was of no concern but I thought the blood guilt, literally, was on the Society because of the blood doctrine. Because I cared for and greatly liked 99% of the people I knew in the ‘truth’ hanging the blood doctrine over their heads troubled me greatly. Especially at a time when various types of life saving surgeries were not available without blood.

Having made no headway with my sister or mother about our non beliefs......... I decided to remain silent. I was no longer acceptable......I had no real wisdom.......I was now untrustworthy.

Finally there came a time when we needed to leave this 19th century religious nonsense behind along with many friends and family.
I had stopped believing in nonsense and with my wonderful wife we made our exit.

That was five Decades ago and still ranks as the very best decision we have ever made as every bit of joy and success we experienced........ on all levels.......... would have been virtually impossible if we remained JW'S.

Thanks for telling your story, it is similar to my own in many ways, except I was decades behind you, but I was similar in producing my own Public Talks, which would not include any doubtful WT thoughts, and eventually I refused to give PT's, as the Outlines were not containing things I could endorse from the Platform.
The Internet helped me of course, but like you, I was lucky that my wife came along with me.
We are both happy like never before !

GIORDANO:
I enjoyed your life story and eventual exit from the Witness religion with your wife while still at a young age. Priceless.  You are right about it being 19th century religious nonsense.
I was in no way as immersed in it as you were. My place and "rank" was a working single woman. Which is to say I was at rock bottom with few friends. But, who cares? I had less to lose than many others with friends and family. Glad I had no family there because I'd do anything to get them out!

Wow! You were out before I even got baptized!
I just knew it wasn’t the truth one day while I was pioneering. I had taken a lunch break on a nice spring day. I parked near the Town’s grammar school. It was a thread that once pulled........ unraveled everything.
I think that significant moment came for me while pioneering, also. One day I was working alone door-to-door in a rural area. I was using the "Peaceful New World" tract and explaining the paradise picture on the cover to individuals that I found at home. I was enthusiastically explaining in detail how the people shown in the picture would never grow old and die, they would have beautiful homes, the animals wouldn't kill each other, etc., and then.....
I just listened to myself. It just didn't sound right. For the first time, it just didn't sound right. This was shortly after the 1995 "generation" teaching change. Even though it took me another decade to begin to really wake up, It was never the same after I really heard myself that day, and what I was telling those people really sank in. It just seemed foolish.

I too look back and see times when yes , particularly pioneering that I would look at all the people living their normal happy lives and think to myself " but what would the truth do for them? "
In my heart I knew that it would turn there normally happy lives upside down and cause them consternation and that they would be on the treadmill that I was on , and I didn't want to do that to people.....
i felt like Jim Cary in liar liar movie who couldn't tell a lie...... I felt like saying, when knocking on someone's door,
" listen to me and in under six months time you could be as tormented as I am having to report and get your field service hours in and you to could lose most of your free time and you too could experience the guilt fear and obligation I feel "
In my heart I knew these things but it's taken till now to break free and even now I'm only fading.

Thanks for sharing your experience Giordano. I always questioned things-I always DO, still. I don't necessarily like my answers. Its hard to shift your mind once entrenched, but I think that life is a journey and progressing forward doesn't always mean that we leap out of one place to another. It is usually step by step. I'm glad you stepped out!

I perfectly remember that, rehearsing with mom, trying to read with enough emphasis and in a proper tone. I was 5 years old, back then in 1996 I think, and the portion was James 5:1-13...
I found today that I still know the first verses by heart!!! It's actually a cherished memory for me, I came to memorize those because mom had me starting the reading all over again until I got to read it properly... And in time!!! I remember also that at that time it was not only a mere reading, you had to write a little comment about it all. Mom has recently got out of the JW-dom completely, so all that seems even more distant in space and time and somehow I'm getting a very melancholic feeling about it!
what was your experience?

1972 - While on Unassigned Territory in a little country town - We had hired the town hall for the meetings as the turnout was so well supported [Pre 1975] and to be very frank it was a wonderful long weekend away -
My School counsellor at that meeting and I became life time friends due to having a lot of secular interests in common eg Jazz Music and Electronics and high-quality audio systems. [ I still play vinyl] - It will remain etched in my book of Life and as with yourself, I can recite the entire chapter - Of course now at 60 the passage has much more relevance ! lol
It was his friendship and counselling manner [he is a brilliant teacher / lecturer] that inspired me to pursue the my school assignments very seriously and after 15 years as the TMS Overseer, my experience gained has enabled me to now earn a professional living from that experience. So it is one thing I can say I gained from my 50 years in the cult !

I think when I joined it wasn't just reading it was a talk. 1966. I vaguely remember. Always hated the school and was part of it intermittently over the following 30 years. For the first 20 years I always got a g then I started getting wig then last few talks w and the last talk I wrote for my wife the elder had to explain afterward that we don't earn our salvation its a gift. Another w.

Mine was in 1955. I was 8 yo. It was in 1 Kings and I read it so many times that I nearly memorized it. Spent the next 5 decades diligently teaching others about shit that is no longer the "truth". Lesson learned. TTATT freed me and it feels good.

When I started, about '67 or '68, the 'beginner's talk', I think it was #2 then, was a regular talk, not a reading. My first one was about the 'Grapes of Wrath' in Revelation. Hilarious now, when you think of it, that a first grade kid would have to speak on such a subject for six minutes.

I was nine years old and just joined the school, I got assigned a portion of 1 Corinthians, went pretty smoothly except I left off a verse at the end. If I remember correctly in those days you had to do a small introduction before you began your reading which later they dropped.

One of the few memories from Wally World that makes me smile when I think about it. I was the first in my family to give any kind of talk on TMS. Evidently I had never witnessed anyone giving a first talk. It was customary in those days (not sure about now) for the audience to applaud for one's first talk. It surprised me, I couldn't figure out why everyone was clapping.

I was 8 when I gave my first Bible reading. It was 1954 and talks 2 and 3 of the TMS in those days were Bible readings. They said it was to help familiarize us with the NWT Bible of which we had only two volumes at the time, the Greek Scriptures and the first volume of the Hebrew Scriptures Genesis-Ruth.
In 1954 only brothers were enrolled in the school. So my devout JW mother pressured me to join the TMS because Billy, another member of our congregation, who was only 7 had already given several Bible readings.
My first reading was a couple of chapters in Leviticus. I don't remember which ones, just that I was so nervous that me legs felt like they were full of pins and needles.
Believe it or not, my next reading assignment was Judges 19 about the gang rape and murder of the Levite's concubine. Fortunately being only 8 years old I didn't really understand what I was reading. But as an adult and remembering that reading, I think it was improper that the TMS servant gave me that reading. But considering Watchtower history, one shouldn't be surprised.

Outlaw - LOL, I remember my hall had the EXACT same podium, in both the front/main hall, and the back room. It had those 2 circular wheels that you would turn to adjust the height, and the pitch of the board that holds the notes and bible, lol.
Anyway, my first bible reading was back in the early 80,s. I was about 6 to 8 years old, I forget exactly. I do NOT remember what passage it was, which I guess is kind of weird. Like others here have said, it was actually a talk, with an introduction, then reading, and then I think a comment half way thru, and then a conclusion, after reading the rest of the verses.
The introduction and conclusion, was the hard part. To me the reading part was easy, cause you could look down and read. Where it got nervous was the introduction, and conclusion, because you had to give "eye contact" to the audience, and they were hanging on your every word, lol.
I also, remember the applause, since it was the first talk, and the "ooohs and aaahs", since I was a 7 year old, cute, little shit.
I remember the 'G's", and "W's", and "I's", for good, work on this, and improved. It was all based on things like, "eye contact", "inflection", "tone and poise", and crap like that.
For some reason, I was thought of as being a "good speaker", and was asked to give the bible reading at 8 years old, but at the assembly in front of like 4,000 people. I honestly didn't think I was anything special, but I was young, and cute, and read well for my age, and my daddy was an elder. SOOO, I now had to be a nervous, stomach cramped, scared to death, 8 year old speaking in front of thousands.
I will never forget it, it was at the "famous" Stanley theatre in Jersey city, New Jersey. To those that do not know, the Stanley theater is like the, opulent, gaudy, flamboyant, showy display, "Vatican" of the JW cult. Its the same type of place that the JW's would condemn other religions for being to "showy", but did it themselves.

I also presented an "experience"
at an assembly, I was maybe 16 by the time (now 25)... Now I look behind it all and it's so weird...
and about public readings, I just remembered the sound of the podium getting adjusted for my height... That sound is along in my memory with the anxiety of being seated in the front row just waiting for my name to be announced!

Urghhh... what a disgusting study!
7 A conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped. For example, a sister named Anne received a telephone call from her disfellowshipped mother. The mother wanted to visit Anne because she felt pained by her isolation from the family. Anne was deeply distressed by the plea and promised to reply by letter. Before writing, she reviewed Bible principles. (1 Cor. 5:11; 2 John 9-11) Anne wrote and kindly reminded her mother that she had cut herself off from the family by her wrongdoing and unrepentant attitude. “The only way you can relieve your pain is by returning to Jehovah,” Anne wrote. —Jas. 4:8.
Emotional blackmail at its best! It's also sickening to see how they transfer the entire blame to the victim when all along it is THEIR OWN DECISION to shun!

12 Daniel, a brother in Mexico, needed to choose between being loyal to God and seeking his own selfish interests. He wanted to marry a girl who was not a believer. Says Daniel: “I continued writing to her even after I entered the pioneer service. But finally, I humbled myself and told an experienced elder that I was disturbed by a conflict of loyalties. He helped me to see that to be loyal to God, I needed to stop writing to her. After many prayers and tears, that is what I did. Soon my joy in the ministry increased.” Daniel later married a fine Christian sister and now serves as a circuit overseer.
And they lived happily ever after... if living in a cult can be considered as happiness

He had the opportunity to be free, but sadly let it go. Total waste of a life...
Also, what's up with the title boasting in the last paragraph?
14 Kindness can help you to deal with a conflict of loyalties. For example, you may have definite knowledge that a certain fellow believer is guilty of serious misconduct. You may feel loyal to him, especially if he is a close friend or a relative. But if you were to cover up the wrongdoing, you would be disloyal to God. Of course, your loyalty to Jehovah should come first. So like Nathan, be kind yet firm. Urge your friend or relative to seek the help of the elders. If he or she does not do so within a reasonable period of time, loyalty to God should move you to report the matter to the elders. In doing this, you are being loyal to Jehovah and kind to your friend or relative, for Christian elders will try to readjust such an individual with mildness. —Read Leviticus 5:1; Galatians 6:1.
Ironic that the not covering up of wrongdoing is usually applied to those who have engaged in conduct that can hardly be considered as wrongdoing while those who have committed ACTUAL SERIOUS wrongdoing (eg: child abusers) have their wrongdoing covered up!

That last paragraph is actually another example of how they're starting to go after faders who no longer believe their bullshit.
In a recent thread about the upcoming RC it was pointed out that one talk in particular may well put this forward more forcefully.

This is absolutely disgusting information from the WT Society. It's emotional blackmail - so now we know where our JW relatives learn these barbaric, criminal attitudes. It comes down and starts at the top of the WT organization. And filters down into the core soul of most all JW's. The few JW's who DO socialize with dfed relatives have to do it secretly or they'll be an accounting to congregation elders. Such a messed up organization. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Even when no longer an elder, I would talk to and encourage (according to the so-called scriptural methods) disfellowshipped individuals. I do so now, even on FB. There are so many former JWs in my area, although not all of them are disfellowshipped.
People are people and need love and help. WT rules no longer hold me in awe and fear.
Enough already . . .

We faded over 4 decades ago and were never shunned. Now we live in a small city of 7000 and we are pretty well known through our volunteer work and donations to the non profits that provide real help like medical services and food etc. For people who are easily well below the poverty level.
If we heard that we were DF unlikely at this late date, but you never know with the WTBTS and their Elder's. I believe I would use that as an opportunity to speak to a significant part of our community.
We have a weekly newspaper that pretty much everyone reads.... it's all about local news and has a letter's to the Editor section. People are pretty out spoken about the cities going's on and since the JW's have shut them selves off from the community, from volunteerism etc. I imagine that a letter to the editor discussing the many reasons someone might be DF and shunned would be an eye opener for a community like this one.
It would probably result in a number of people voicing their opinion about shunning. Especially learning that while you can practice freedom of religion as a JW if one doesn't want to remain a JW you will be punished with shunning.

The Governing Body, Geoffrey Jackson assertively said at the ARC that they, do not ask their members to shun, that is not something we do.
—Jas. 4:8.

Excellent point Divergent, Tell on your friends for having a little fun but STFU about the children getting abused! That's why we continue to expose them for what they are accomplices to a pedophile epidemic in Watchtower land!

I was wondering, has there ever been a letter or petition campaign to try and get stricter laws against organizational shunning?
With this wt article and this summers assembly content all the evidence is there that the org are denying basic human rights. What if lots of people wrote at once to the government about it? Letters can be confidential or even anonymous. Just an idea.

That's why they keep drilling this into there heads.
At that time, the lifesaving direction that we receive from Jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint. All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not. The elders must stand ready to help any who may now be wavering in their faith.” (w13 11/15 p.20)

They are grooming the rank and file for stricter shunning policies. The internet is exposing so much of their lies and deception, they need to do damage control and information control. Keep the ignorant, ignorant.

This article is bad news and shows how the JW religion is getting more desperate and in so doing is messing with people's heads even more!
I am sure there are many Witnesses there that are hanging on and would like less stress and more peace in their lives. "Suggestions" like these aren't going to bring peace to anybody there! There will be just more gossip, turmoil and drama.
As far as them going after "faders", and my few acquaintances not wanting to bother with me at some point, I accept that may happen. I'll feel badly for a short time but I'll get over it. The final nail will be hammered in the lid.
Thankfully, I have some friends outside and no family in that religion!

Will many JWs who have been relaxing or softening on this shunning issue toward their family members, (inactive, marked, df'd, da'd) in recent times, after today's meeting do a strong flip back into the harsh shunning? I have found this rollercoaster to be common. The GB sometimes find this 'leash' has relaxed and therefore do a 'yank' back to their loyal members.

They love to use 2 John 1:10,11, don't they? Let's review:
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your homes or say a greeting to him. 11 For the one who says a greeting to him is a sharer in his wicked works.

Ok, fair enough, but what is "this teaching?" Let's back up and see the context.
Look out for yourselves, so that you do not lose the things we have worked to produce, but that you may obtain a full reward. 9 Everyone who pushes ahead and does not remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God. The one who does remain in this teaching is the one who has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your homes or say a greeting to him. 11 For the one who says a greeting to him is a sharer in his wicked works.
Hmm. The "teaching of the Christ." Let's see:
◦Did Christ teach about a paradise earth?
◦Did Christ teach that only 144,000 will go to heaven?
◦Did Christ teach that he would come in 1914?

If the answer to any of these is "yes," please show me from the Bible. If any of these are, no, then let's go back to 2 John and review verse 9.

Everyone who pushes ahead and does not remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God.
I ask, then, who, really should be "shunned?"

Good point about rank-and-file flip-flopping Gayle on strictness towards shunning.
The impression I get is that many in the organization are not as rigorous in shunning as they are supposed to be, hence the periodic strongly-worded reminders.
The rank and file then obey for a while after the Watchtower then slip back into a more relaxed position - discreetly of course.
It's a little bit like meeting up with a JW just after one of their three-day conventions: They're insufferably righteous and preachy. Get them a few months out from the convention, and the burnished righteousness has toned right down and they're not as full on.
It's all part of the ups and downs of life in this organization.
On balance, though, I suspect that increasing numbers of those affiliated with the organization are stepping away from the more extreme elements. It's as if the GB are saying: How much blunter do we need to be??

This Watchtower was one big contradiction. Paragraph 17 said.....
'We need courage to be loyal to Jehovah. Many of us have courageously stood firm against pressure from family members......in order to prove ourselves loyal to God. In Japan, for example Taro had from childhood centred his life on being loyal to his parents..............He really wanted to make his parents happy. So when they opposed his association with Jehovah's Witnesses, he found it especially painful to tell them that he had decided to attend Christian meetings. Says Taro: "They were so angry for years, I was forbidden to visit them at home. I prayed for courage to stick to my decision. Now their attitude has softened, and I can visit them regularly'
Having been already annoyed at the audacity of paragraph 7 where we are to shun our own mother if df'd (forbid her from our home if it came to it), yet they make Taros parents look bad for doing the very same thing they set as policy! Who on earth writes this stuff. It looks like Bill wrote the first part of that Watchtower study, and Ben stepped in and finished it off. Unbelievable!

Man, oh man.....This happened to me! I was in love and I felt guilty because she wasn't a JW (we were 19). I broke up with her, broke her heart and it was a very sad time. Eventually, I, too, met and married a "fine Christian sister" and after two years, I realized my marriage was a mistake (even though I stayed in the unhappy marriage for 10 more years).

Straight absolute malarky...hahaha! I just smh when I read this stuff, cause it is such a lie. When I confessed, I confided in the elders all the nonsense taking place that I was aware of, thinking it would clear MY conscience and help the others who were "sinning". What happened to me? DF'd
What happened to them? NOTHING!! The guy is an elder, his wife (married in the Khall and all) is a reg pioneer, they have 2 kids are are living the full JW life. But when the elders questioned them about all their wrongdoing - which all took place in MY home cause they lived with me as a couple before getting married - they denied it all and called me a liar. The eldees bought it, and that was that.
14 Kindness can help you to deal with aconflict of loyalties. For example, youmay have definite knowledge that a certain fellow believer is guilty of seriousmisconduct. Anne wrote and kindly reminded her mother that she had cut herself off from the family by her wrongdoing and unrepentant attitude. “The only way you can relieve your pain is by returning to Jehovah,” Anne wrote.
The writers that come up with this stuff live in the isolated world of bethel. When living in a like-minded hive of WT drones, disfellowshipping sounds beneficial to all concerned.
But out in the real world where ordinary JWs have to work with and live around nonJWs, the disfellowshipping practice screams "cult!"
The situation described in this article would easily be surrounded by nonJW family members, neighbors, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and onlookers. Although WT can issue the command that nobody ask any questions about the judicial meeting and that nobody talk to the dfd, that certainly doesn't apply to all those nonJWs. And when the mother in this WT story recounts what has transpired and shows what the daughter wrote in the letter to any nonJW, what are they going to think? "What a bitch of a daughter in a stupid church. Poor mother."
I've talked to fellow students, coworkers, and my therapist about this JC and df practice. Of course they find it disgusting and lose any respect for JWs that they previously had. So the GB can keep ordering the sheeple to preach, but I know plenty of people that will never listen because they are aware of this unloving practice of this captive cult.
Daniel later married a fine Christian sister and now serves as a circuit overseer.
As if "just marry a JW and you'll enjoy a wonderful life". Plenty of "fine Christians" married... and later divorced. After I became an elder and found out how many of these "fine Christian" couples and families were really a wreck, I lost my desire to marry. I'm still trying to recover from some of the stuff I "witnessed".

loyalty to God should move you to report the matter to the elders.
This is the type of thing that created this problem of the crime of child molestation being reported to the elders WHEN IT SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE POLICE! If there is no confession or witness besides the victim, the "loyal" congregation leaves a molester free to strike again. Meanwhile, if an engaged couple confesses that they got a little touchy-feely, the elders bring down the hammer and publicly humiliate them.
I was an elder in a congregation where this tattle-tale spirit got absolutely out of control. As if there weren't enough real problems, there were some teenage girls and their mothers that started a war of accusations against one another. It was a mess with a quarter of the congregation not on speaking terms with another quarter and they were trying to drag the rest of us into the battle. I sure don't miss that kind of "fine Christian" sh!t.

urghhh... what a disgusting study!7 a conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped.

What is really disgusting is the fact they are well aware of how the onlookers see the shunning. They put all effort to hide it carefully from the public. That's why https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/shunning/ is not not giving an accurate picture and that's why they dilute this dogma when asked by a journalist etc.

Anyone else feel like they were just woke up from a long coma? or emerged from a time capsule?
I mean seriously, its rather creepy and disturbing , some of us are at sea without a compass .
like an orphan, like someone said, , heres a birth certificate go find yourself.
My brain tells me Im still in 1980’s era. Im 20 again.
in the 80's my daughter was in grade school, and that's when my [not jw turned jw] husband and i got baptized and really started to slave. [ he gave up after 8 years, I just gave up four years ago,] then my son born in 88, so the 90s kept me busy.
so, music, shows, that I never heard, reading news stories about events and political issues that happened.

so Im like, omg where was I when THAT happened? lol

I feel so lost,lol,
[where is my husband now when i needed him most, out of he picture. damn him.]

I don't know what to do with it ,lol

I feel the same way to some extent.
Being a JW I missed out on a lot, and I wish I could go back to the eighties and live those years again until now. Whatever happened in the world was all part of the sign, and not really important, the real life was to come. And that is how I lived, never really concerned myself with what was happening in the world, politically wise, and technologically wise. Now I am struggling to make up the time lost and hopefully will be able to retire with a reasonable pension. Have 10 years to do that.

Coming out of a coma is a good analogy. I sometime need to stop and figure out who, I really am and not just remnants of my cult personality coming through. Its like learning how to be a person again, how to be part of a wonderful global community. How to feel empathy for people and not chuck it up to Jehovah will take care of everything. I still tend to judge things for what I perceive them to be and not what they really are.Working on that!
Its like waking up 40 years into the future, your life is gone, In a "blink of an Eye".

That lost feeling is endemic with former witnesses,
when you leave you lose your whole support system and you also can lose your direction since every waking moment was angled towards the org , and when it's gone all that you had is gone too in one big catastrophe.... And your left alone and bereft not knowing where to turn, a novice in this world because you ignored it for so long..... We are all suffering the same I think.

That is one thing that will always bother me....I won't count childhood, because I didn't have it bad at all....but my 20's and 30's were completely lost...I was frozen...locked into a prison I hated and had no idea how to claw out of...40's still involved but completely detached and fading without really realizing. Life out is fabulous..but I have serious regrets about having lost the healthiest most potential part of my life.

My boys were little in the late 80's and 90's and keeping food on the table and a roof over their heads kept me busy. There were so many times when after a long day of work, I wanted nothing more than to stay home and enjoy my little boys. Instead we felt obligated to dress them in little suits and ties 3 time a week, head to the Kingdom Hall on a dark wintery night and force them to sit through mind numbing talks about the supposed nearness of the end. Sometimes I'd look at them sitting there in their chairs with glazed looks on their faces and remember my own growing up years as a JW and feel badly for them.

There's no way to get that time back and there's a lot of catching up to do now and the hard part is, I don't really have quite the same energy and drive that I used to have. It would have been nice to have known what I know now....back when I was on top of my game. I don't know anything about politics. Didn't get to know my neighbors or coworkers all those years. Didn't really learn how to make friends. Friendships just sort of happened after all those years of going to the meetings week after week. I still feel quite elated on Tuesday and Thursday nights when I realize that I don't have to go to "the meeting".
One nice thing has been watching old movies that I'd missed because they were rated R. and not feeling obligated to explain my beliefs or that I'm representing Jehovah's Witnesses every time I'm faced with a decision or some controversial issue.

It's a very valid comparison. When every decision is made for you and you are not allowed to develop your own personality, make your own mistakes and pursue your own dreams, it keeps you from growing and developing as a person. When every problem has a simplistic solution (pray, study, meetings, service) you don't learn to develop your own problem solving skills. In a way your life was stolen from you.
You will never get those years back, all you can do is take what lessons you have learned and apply them to the life you have now. As horrible as some of my experiences were, it did ultimately make me a stronger person, and I have used those strengths to build a better life. Just being able to see through the lies get up the courage to leave is an act of remarkable personal growth and a good start on becoming a whole person again.

He kind of disappeared with his wife, both worked at Bethel and were special pioneers.
Nice guy, very well liked and respected in the Hall..
I didn't get into a deep discussion with him but he obviously had an awakening to something he perhaps saw or witnessed.
They might have moved out of the area, which does happen when people are intending to fade out of the religion not wanting to draw attention toward themselves.

I agree with the catch up thing. I try not to over think it. To say I never experienced life at all, is just not true. Even though I may feel that way at times.
Yes, when I left my heart to stone. It was the darkest time of my life. Didn't know what to think or feel. My former friends abandoned me. My mom stopped seeing and talking to me. Was unsure of my wife and kids reaction. I was heart broken. Then, a scripture came to mind. I forgot the exact details other than a blind man being thrown out of the synagogue. So I looked it up. Here is what it says. I felt Jesus was speaking to me. Afterall, he knows the motivations as to why I left.
John: 9: 34-37: They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out. Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of God?" He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?" Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you."
Jesus heard he was thrown out. This was important to Jesus. That is why he sought out the man. He knew the heart of the man. That was the beginning of my spiritual journey out of the Watchtower. I do not feel lost anymore. Psalm: 26:12- "My foot stands in an even place. In the congregations I will bless Yahweh."

Yes, WT outlined how I was to think and how I would live my life, and with who I would spend that time with. Now that, yay, WT real estate and publishing house is out of my life, I realized just this past week... I am lost... and looking for my tribe.
I don't want to keep looking back on my life, but at present, I am not having all that much fun.
One thing I am doing, is trying new recipes that I've wanted to do for ages, but under too much stress, didn't even try. I am enjoying different lamb recipes and trying new Greek, Italian and Turkish dishes. I don't drink booze, but am willing to try putting some summer, fruity cocktails on the list.
My garden had a Japanese theme, this year, I am changing it up to be a Oriential-Persian Garden with flowery perfume. I have got an azaela, blooming right now. It smells so good. It is called Rosy Lights, fragerant, and very hardy. I highly recommend it.
Ever since I was a little girl, I wondered who I was going to marry, to be friends with, to laugh with. When I was about 8, one 20 plus young brother said he was going to wait for me and when I grew up, he was going to marry me. I believed him. He married someone the next year.
I never imagined I would ever live my life solo.
Heading off... Searching for my tribe...

I just recalled something from my past that I've not thought about in a very long time, but it did have a significant impact on me whether I knew it or not at the time......
I have a sister who was born when I was 15. My family are not JW's thank the universe! But me as an uberdub at the time convinced my young sister to have a study. She was about 14 or 15 at the time I'd guess.
We were going along in the Bible Teach book I think it was.....and she was full of questions. Now my sister was a very outgoing young lady with lots and lots of life in her. Very much the type to go off and explore the world (much like I was before becoming a Jdub and how I am once again) and at some point in our study and her going to meetings she expressed to me something along the lines of "But what do you DO?" in other words, she was seeing just how repressive this cult is. She saw that if she continued in it she would have nothing. None of her dreams would be fulfilled and all her desires would just be trashed. Startlingly I actually saw this too and for a split second I too asked myself "Yes, what indeed do we DO?" and the answer was "nothing". It was one of my first moments of Cognitive Dissonance and I quickly talked about how we do all this for Jehovah, blah blah blah.......
The funny thing was when she decided to stop studying and attending meetings deep down I was actually happy for her. I knew she'd made the right decision for herself.
It's funny I just thought of this. I never really thought I'd had any CD moments. For me reading CoC while I was taking a break from meetings (due to the overwhelming guilt feelings) was what I always thought of as my moment of awakening, but really looking back this was the first glimmer that something wasn't right.
I'd love to hear your first moments of awakening if you'd like to share.

Doing more research about the blood issue + child abuse scandals & visiting this site + other "apostate" sites awakened me instantly!

What led to my awakening was me realizing this: If JW's REALLY have the truth, WHY do we have to be so afraid of apostate sites as truth is supppsed to EASILY overcome lies? UNLESS...

I was born in, and in for so long, that inevitably their were lots of moments when I had a sudden Light Bulb moment, which I then suppressed.
Two come to mind, the first was when my mum told me about some Apostates, and said "They don't believe in 1914", and I thought to myself " I am not sure that I do".
For a long time after that the constant crowing by the G.B that they had got 1914 right really annoyed me, I can remember thinking " Oh I just wish 1914 would be proved wrong !"
This was pre-Internet of course, and little did I know their 1914 rubbish had already been blown out of the water.
The second moment was simply the thought that came to me whilst in a K.Hall meeting " What if this is all wrong ? all a load of rubbish ?". I pushed the thought to the back of my mind.
I wish I had pursued these thoughts, and left decades earlier, but at least in the end I became free.

We had an elder pose the question during a talk, 'What do we DO, since we don't celebrate holidays, birthdays, or participate in many other activities outside the religion?'
The pause afterwards must have seemed like forever, at least to those anticipating a decent response for anyone whoa asks. Then he came up with "Well, I like to eat!" I'm thinking to myself "Seriously? That's all you can come up with? JWs sure need to get a life!"

I enjoyed the program "The Amish", on the Discovery Channel. I loved how the one man assisted them to escape. It really captured how there world was the only world they knew. It was always a passing thought for me, about how perhaps I was in a similar situation. "Maybe I can't see beyond the umbrella. Maybe I haven't really experienced life. Maybe my reality is not reality." I would quickly dismiss this idea, thinking that our situation is different. However, every time I watched that show, the same thought would come to mind.
That thought, more than I realise, actually planted a deep seed. And when I finally woke up, that program came to mind.

Since I have left the Watchtower's dung behind, reading and learning has accelerated at an unbelievable pace for me. I am sure that is true for most here. I have always been a big time reader. But now it is an unsatiable thirst. When I was little, I would appreciate a four page article in the Awake! "proving" a creator. I put that in quotes because as I grew older, those four pages never changed. Same reasoning, little science, no detail. My mind needed more. Much, much more. I was sick of the watchmaker story!!
Philosophy was always condemned in the Watchtower. But little did I know about the value of much of it. While I don't run with all of it, I realize that even for a Christian, it can help you reason on things that seem beyond the grasp of humans. It does have it's place. Some of it is very logical.
The Watchtower is as shallow as vomit on the floor. I look through recent magazines just to contemplate the sheer emptiness of it. I get so depressed just thinking about how I accepted it.
When I first read comments on here, I was very enraged with atheists, anti-theists, Bible bashers and so on. It took time for me to adjust. Why not just leave if I hated such talk? Well, unknowingly, it was this environment that turned me into a madman researcher. It moved me to do deeper research. The Watchtower was shallow on EVERY SUBJECT. Whether that be creation, Bible canon, even there own doctrine. I would never allow myself to retreat to such emptiness again. A quick Google search on page 1 would not satisfy me.
This forum has really simplified things for me. Take evolution for example. I did want to research this with honesty. But where would I start? Which book would bring me satisfying answers to my questions? I need detail, not generalizations. I needed more than a simple biology book that describes the basics of evolution. I needed more. Much much more. What has helped me in this regard? Thank you Cofty. I have saved his posts on my phone. He has really done a good job in simplifying the whole thing. I believe if you just study each point, you will have a good picture of what it is all about. I have used each point to further my research. And I am not done. No, I do not use National Geographic as my source for study. I study many of the actual research papers. Then I read the many comments that people share on these sites. I then study the counter arguments in detail. This allows me to dive below the surface of what is being said. And I am absolutely amazed at what I have learned. Classic creation sites are not my sources for study. I use them, to learn there side and then research that.
What I have learned, and I will admit is that Christianity has needed to catch up on what is happening in society. They have needed to catch up on so much of the science of our day. Why have they needed to catch up? It is because not too long ago people in general accepted the Bible as true. Science has accelerated at such a rapid pace just in recent times, that Christianity logically had to catch up with this. But the Watchtower never went beyond itself and its childlike reasoning on matters. But so many Christian apologetics have helped us to catch up on so many things. But even when it comes to these sources, I will not accept generalizations. I do believe that people's misunderstandings about things, makes them look like fools. I don't care if someone believes in evolution or they believe in creation. Both sides have those people that are shallow minded and they don't want to grasp the the understanding of the other side.
To put it simply, being out of the Watchtower and being able to have the freedom to read sites like this has caused my mind to explode with so much knowledge. In fact I have learned so much in the last year that it truly has become like a "burning fire" that I want to share with people. Especially those people in the Watchtower. I want them to know that there is so much out here and there is so much detail that they are lacking.
And so I just wanted to thank everyone for everything that they share on this site. Whether that information is something I immediately agree with or not. Each point has become a starting point for me in my journey to learn more. I have never felt so free.

A good Post The Liberator !
I too followed a similar path as soon as I decided to lead an evidence based life. I learned the joy of studying formally forbidden or derided material.
I did learn too that caution has to be used, I came across some "scientific" papers that looked like very good research, peer reviewed etc etc, but on closer examination they had not been published in the usual way, and the peers who were quoted were all academics etc who supported the hypothesis.
These instances are rare, but there is some rubbish about.
Keep it up, and, yes, it is so so good to be truly mentally free !

I commend you on your research Liberator.
A week ago you admitted that you were promoting a new religious movement that is "99% Watchtower".
Is your research causing you to doubt some of that?

As my post stated, I am still a Christian. My fairh has been strengthen. When you are a Watchtower slave, no need to look anywhere else. My point being, that this place has simplified things as far as what to research. It is so easy to get swept up into naturalism, which is different than science. But when you peel back and dig through what has been accepted by pop culture, you find quite a different story. Even I had never heard of the Jesus/Horus story. Now I literally laugh. Bart Ehrman is another one. By means of careful words he misleads people to draw a conclusion that simply isn't true. It might be technically true, but that is where the devil is. That is the pattern I see when it comes to many lines of thought. Technically true, but not the whole story and that includes the points Cofty has outlined. People go out of the way, spending there whole lives trying to disprove a Creator and the Bible. That speaks volumes. Christianity is such an evidence based faith like no other. I feel it is the most reasonable of the worldviews. What I am finding, is that studying these things has lead to using critical thinking skills on a higher level, due to what I said about pop culture. No need to be fearful of studying any subject. If a person wants to, they can shut out all the"noise" that we are bombarded with, and draw the same conclusion. The Watchtower never gave me the faith I have today.

Congrats on digging deep. Keep it up and do spill what you find here. The JWs only teach faith to the Borg when you get right down to it. It gets easier and easier to point out the liberties they take in interpreting and adding to scripture. This WT study was a great example with false scenarios set up through "must have" and "would have" to explain certain biblical passages.

but me as an uberdub at the time convinced my young sister to have a study.

she was about 14 or 15 at the time i'd guess.

i perfectly remember that, rehearsing with mom, trying to read with enough emphasis and in a proper tone.

i was 5 years old, back then in 1996 i think, and the portion was james 5:1-13.... i found today that i still know the first verses by heart!!!

it's actually a cherished memory for me, i came to memorize those because mom had me starting the reading all over again until i got to read it properly... and in time!!!

some cong-member asked my wife this question (in the street, stopping her on her bicycle) in a rather police-like fashion.

i wasn't there so i don't know her immediate reaction and response, but she got very upset afterwards and one day later this still occupies her mind.

i believe it's an emotional mix of anger, sadness, shame and guilt.. she doesn't like this intrusion in her privacy from some jws and on the next occasion she will try to make this person respect her boundaries (or just ignore her).

Especially those people in the Watchtower. so that's a great ease on my mind.i just hope the interview (over the phone) goes well, and results in the next steps to getting a position.my son spent a month in seoul last summer, an loved the place.

he has friends out there as well, including a young man that he attended classes with here in the states, so i think that's a real plus in taking this very giant leap.when i was his age, i was slowly working my way through a two year degree, still living at home, and aspiring to nothing more than a job as a repairman.

he is just days away from graduation with his bachelor's in english, and today, he has an interview with a recruiter for an agency that help with finding teaching positions in south korea.. i took it upon myself to research the company and his interviewer, and it's been high marks all around on both of them.

so that's a great ease on my mind.i just hope the interview (over the phone) goes well, and results in the next steps to getting a position.my son spent a month in seoul last summer, an loved the place.

he has friends out there as well, including a young man that he attended classes with here in the states, so i think that's a real plus in taking this very giant leap.when i was his age, i was slowly working my way through a two year degree, still living at home, and aspiring to nothing more than a job as a repairman.
