Only 78 signatures are needed in order to send the request to the IRS that they revoke or at the very least investigate the Borg. Come'on guys, support it.

It would probably be beneficial if the statement also included a mention of the fact that the WTS actively encourages its membership not to do charitable works.

I don't think investigating because of child abuse is going to be the thing here. It has to be because of shunning. Shunning envokes thoughts of removal of freedom.

Signed and bumping.
Oh, the horror! I used "it's" instead of "its", and there's no "Edit" button ....
The Jehovah's Witness cult is a religious front for a corporation. Historically, it's dealings have focussed on publishing and real estate, with more recent investments in hedge funds. They encourage their members to rely on government support such as food stamps and welfare, so that they can devote more time to 'slaving for Jehovah'. Here is one scam the IRS needs to investigate: when disaster strikes, the Jehovah's Witness corporation sends 'volunteers' to help members rebuild their homes. Of course, the member is expected to file claims with insurance and/or Government disaster relief, and turn any monies received over to their pastor as donations. Also, look into the construction of their Kingdom Halls. They loan the money to the local parish, whose congregates pay interest on said loan. Once the loan is paid off, the congregation 'donates' the building to the Jehovah's Witness corporation. That sounds very sketchy to me. How about you? That is not to mention the destruction of families and hiding of pedophiles. You are the IRS, follow the money! You took down Al Capone, you can destroy this heinous cult. Lead the way, America, and perhaps the rest of the Western World will follow.

Bump.
I have forwarded this to several people, but can I make a suggestion?
". unyielding, dangerous, and outdated policies on shunning or excommunication known as disfellowshipping
· child abuse
· the banning of lifesaving blood transfusions that affect children which would classify them as a cult- like organization that fails to protect children, and causes harm to minors and the general health and well-being of the public."
It is not the IRS's responsibility to investigate shunning, ie people not talking to each other, even the courts don't recognise shunning as illegal.
Also, refusing blood transfusion is voluntary, the IRS are not going to investigate that either. They don't care about what a religion teaches, I am afraid. They don't define cults either, so maybe remove any uses of that word.
I would suggest removing those parts, if the petition can be edited at all.
"We, as current practicing as well as former members of this organization, as well as others who are not affiliated with this said organization, feel very passionately and strongly that these child abuse offences and outdated policies must come to light and deserves more coverage in mainstream media in the United States. "
I would recommend just ending this sentence at 'feel very strongly about these child abuse offenses and outdated policies'.
The IRS are not interested in you wanting coverage from the mainstream media.
The UK charities commission were only willing to investigate due to the org's child abuse related policies. If you want any real chance of being listened to, maybe focus on just the child abuse partof your letter. (which is quite well written).
Finally, you may need to get media coverage for the petition.
Best of luck.
defender of truth
defender of truth 11 minutes ago
Sorry, I may not have expressed that clearly enough.
The blood policy does obviously endanger children's lives, and they may not make an informed and voluntary decision.
But it is not the responsibility of the IRS to look at what a religion teaches, which is the only link between the parents decision to refuse blood and the org's policy.
Frankly, I have doubts that even covering up child abuse will be looked into by the IRS.
All they seem to be concerned with is political campaigning.
https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/the-restriction-of-political-campaign-intervention-by-section-501-c-3-tax-exempt-organizations
Anyway, this is a good effort, but unless you get the petition into the media somehow with an organisation behind you, I cannot honestly see it having an effect.
http://aawa.co/about-aawa/contact-us/
Again, all the best.

I had a couple of JW sisters call at my door today.
They started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what I thought of that.
I said it sounded like a mix of Disney and dumb.
They then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?
I said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.
They thought man created death by disobeying so I questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them. Apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.
I asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in Tsunami's, disease and so on.
At this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).
When I suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if I studied the bible and theology.
Then I told them I was brought up as a JW so knew it was all crap.
Now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why I'd left (and I think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).
Not much time to say much before they cut and run so I told them I'd left because I found out it was all based on lies and that the WatchTower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.
Oh no, you're thinking of the Catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "Catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").
"Well, I challenge you to do a search for the Australian Royal Commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police."
"Oh no, we disfellowship people like that" (like that is sufficient punishment for the crime). Well, I said, you'll have no reason not to check it out if you think they are squeaky clean. The fact is they didn't report crimes and allowed people to abuse others and the WatchTower put its own image ahead of the welfare of small children.
And they were gone.
Hopefully they will do a search and may learn things are not as they are portrayed. Talking to people in a cult who think they have the truth is so incredibly frustrating.

It's amazing how many of the uber dubs know nothing about what goes on in their own religion. Some that do know, just stick their heads in the sand. I believe those ones who know only stay in for the family and friends. Like they all say..."where else would we go?" Crazy!

One was keen to try and "defend" the WTS but simply claiming everything was untrue and lies (and they were not like those evil Catholics!!) and the other was tugging her sleeve and whispering "let's go, leave it".
I always think "that's it, they won't be back" but I don't think they are allowed to put you down as a DNC unless you specifically ask for it.
So in 6 months some new pair will appear and we'll get to play again.

Satan: "-- if Russel banged 20 women, or if some pedophile was JW and they didn't call the police. agreed, compared to the happenings in the "Residential" schools, the RC church, Rotherham, Cologne, these are minor matters, tragic for the wt victims though they are. That is why the wt keeps trotting out David all the time, a man according to god's (the 7 guardians of doctrine)'s heart.
The big issues are current and past prophecies, doctrines. procedures.

It is interesting to observe the level of ignorance these folks have. They literally know nothing aside from what is taught in the meetings. The Watchtower keeps them so busy with multiple meetings, preaching, studying for meetings, family study, etc, that they have no will to research or know anything else.
Also a complete disconnect with reality. Claiming the ARC story is false when there is overwhelming evidence including video of the testimonies, etc.
No wonder the watchtower would much rather have these folks stand next to a cart, like scarecrows, lest they be exposed to any probing questions, by calling on people at doors.

Well, those two lovely sisters did not see that coming!
I've got to also love the way they suddenly change gear once you provide an extra bit of information - but the changed gear adds nothing of substance to their reasoning. They simply extend the simple-minded narrative.
Best line:Your response to their initial question about what it would be like if death were no more:
"A mix of Disney and dumb". Ouch!
Talk about bluntly apt.
Now if only those two shaken sisters can compose themselves, ditch the fairy stories and do some serious thinking about what you said.

If there is a kid being dragged along then I talk to the adult but the message is for the child.
Something along the lines of "oh, I was brought up to believe all that, but life is better since I got an education, saw it for what it is and left. I didn't want to go on being trapped in a cult and have it ruin my life".
Basically: you can leave when you grow up.

Quite disturbing that the 'it's all lies' claim appears so many times - I WATCHED it LIVE - I heard the way the leaders tried to mislead the ARC representatives, under oath and in a court of law - there was very little that was open, candid or transparent in their demeanour and choice of phrasing - although I had already heard and detected 'manipulative' speech and underhanded phrasing through the literature, it really bowled me over to hear such words come from the actual GB member and of course senior Legal Personnel/Brothers from the Society.
I felt a little sad for the elders under question - they were absolutely out of their depth in the face of honest and forthright questioning.....so many 'oh my goodness' moments - I'm glad I had already 'seen' the light, if I had watched the ARC proceedings in state of absolute trust and faith in the organisation, I'd have had a breakdown.
Oh wait a minute - I DID have a breakdown, but that was a couple of years before the ARC rolled out. Sheesh. I was heartbroken.

Maybe we should find out the address of JW`s in our area and do a house call on them when they don`t expect it and give them an anti-witness and see how they feel about being "witnessed to " at an inconvenient time .
back to topic , How in the world can any Jehovah`s Witness ignore Jackson a G.B. member and Elders , pathetically not defending the" Good News" before a governmental inquiry in the video streaming of the Australian Royal Commission held in Australia.?
Can anybody really be that stupid that they dismiss such evidence ? facts ? And if so they need to be confronted with their insanity .

I don't know what is more sad the denial or the hatred. By the hatred I mean the wry smile i often note on the Witnesses face at the end of the conversation it's a smile that seems to say. "Watch out buster, Jehover has you marked for destruction at armaggedon"
Yes the saddest thing for me is that so many Witnesses can hate, promote hatred, and think they themselfes are loving people.

i ask, because a neighboring congregation of where i used to attend was dissolved, and the people from there were scattered about to whatever congregation was closest.
but it turns out that they still meet at the old kingdom hall a couple times a week, for field service.
apparently this is done for tax purposes.. i suppose from a fiscal standpoint it makes sense, though it seems a little deceitful.

being brought up as a jehovah's witness means you are so used to the term that you rarely stop to think about it.. one thing i've noticed is that people unfamiliar with the religion will say "jehovah witness" (no 's) instead which i always found a bit grating.. but watching the us election, something struck me.
people are often referred to as "trump supporters", not "trump's supporters" and so on.
thinking about other things, people would say they were "united fan's", not "united's fans" and so on.. it seems weird that a group would refer to themselves as though it was someone else talking about them (in the 3rd person, if i have that right).. what do you think?

...and it's our duty to warn non-jws, or half awake jws about these events, as they start appearing in newspapers throughout the us, and abroad.
it almost comes out as a promotional ad for the jw convention.
the 'current events' editing staff of this paper likely has no idea what their promoting.
