The religious lessons themselfs are not missed, they were actually quite dull, and I realize I learnt nothing of value from them. Instead a quite evening at home playing with my boy is more endearing. Yes my life has moved on, I occassionaly see members of my former congregation in shopping centers, or they are putting the kids in to the back of the car and inside I believe most of them have bottled it, they prefer the comfort to the " truth" Who am I to expose the can of worms.
Many of course can blame parents or grandparents for having grown up as outcasts in school and I hope if they do leave like me they hold no resentment. Indoctrination is a terrible thing, and even false prophecy, Royal commissions, and proof that many of the elders in the congregation are complete and utter shits won't change that. This however no longer baffles me and I am content simply being indifferent to any arguments that are made to prompt my return.
I still bear some resentment to the G.B, and those that belong to the more prosperous positions simply because personally I believe most are leading a double life and are indifferent to the life's they are ruining. However such people exist in all organisations, which is why many organized minded people are attracted to organisation. Politics and business not only religion confirm this.
Now it is my first summer " beyond" the Kingdom Hall walls, and when I see a pub in the evening I will stop there and no longer rush home to prepare for a meeting. A Guinness in a pub has introduced me to some of life's most wonderful characters.
I do appreciate many here who have doubts have a lot to be slaughtered about if they leave. The personal "shit" is the part of the journey I won't judge. As for the factual stuff you must be aware of it, otherwise you wouldn't be here.
So I have started this O.P hoping others like me will have magnificent testimonies on how there life's have improved, however  I am sure many have struggled and sadly life may be pretty miserable. Both testimonies are equally appreciated. The important thing is it takes guts and courage to move on, and happy endings can't be guaranteed, but each posters testimony is of equal value and the " lucky bastards" like me I hope are not the few.

It has been a journey, a lonely journey since I put all my eggs in one basket. It has been a period of discovery; everything seems new, everything had been tainted and skewed in a unfavorable light. Its really like getting a second chance at life without the blinders. Even though the bOrg has caused so much damage, I try to stay positive for my kids sake who are watching me and for my own peace of mind. This next phase of my life I would like to volunteer some in a meaningful way.
I loved this image, nailed it.

We left some 50 years ago. Started a new career....... one not dedicated to the WTBT$. Raised our son in a JW free life style. Traveled through out the country making and selling our art in gallerias and participating in art Shows.
Worked at home our entire careers....loved working at home.
Retired to our small city of 7,000 (two colleges in town with one having concerts and theater often free of charge) walk to everything, talk to everyone, help our elderly neighbors when needed. Volunteer for 7 years for a foundation that is involved with historic preservation. Which in turn provides 12% of the employment in our area.
I now volunteer as coordinator of our local Studio Art Tour....... check us out at lexingtonrockbridgestudiotour.com
Being out has been the best years of our lives.

Thanks fellas for posting it. As soon as I saw the picture it brought me immediately back to my "this is all bullshit" moment when I realized I would never bring my kids up in this cult.

Wait until you go beyond Earth, beyond our solar system.
So far, we have discovered 12 other planets in the habitable zone of stars in the Universe. There are probably many, many more. If life has evolved on any one of these planets, how many of them do you think have Christians on them?

If that pictures heading is acurate and Lett was new to Bethel in 1976 them he's a big fat liar. Wonder if there's a way to confirm when exactly he first went to Bethel? He said in a talk that he was at Bethel before 1975 and he was one of the few that was considered an apostate because he didn't think the end was coming in 1975.

I had heard from a longtime elder that the only brothers "allowed" to wear a mustache was limited to Latin/Hispanic brothers in the 70s-80s in the USA this elder is Caucasian & said they weren't permitted to have a mustache when he was growing up, they would not have privileges if they had one, has anyone heard of such thing?

Khaleesi.........by the mid '70's the 'white Bethel boys' could have a moustache and sideburns to the bottom of our earlobes neatly trimmed. In fact, I had sideburns down to the bottom of my earlobes and Lon Schilling (The assistant Farm Overseer and now highly placed) had fairly bushy sideburns down to the bottom of his earlobes too! I never grew a moustache until I left Bethel and have had one for 39 years.

Khaleesi: Any brother can have a mustache. However, here's a fun fact: In the WT publications, you will NEVER ever ever ever ever see a white brother with any sort of mustache. Try it. Dig through any publications you have and try to find one. You can't
The only males with mustaches are non-whites. Hispanic, black, indian, middle-eastern etc. Anyone but a white dude

Here's where I stand at the moment: I neither categorize myself as a theist, atheist, or agnostic. I'm a freethinker and do not have a specific belief at the moment, UNLESS something comes along which is 100% conclusive & convincing
Which brings us to tackling the elephant in the room, something that today's text has failed to do:

Sunday, May 15
Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.—Jas. 4:8.
Jehovah showed his love for the human family by creating our beautiful earthly home. He still expresses his love for us by sustaining our life by means of his marvelous physical provisions. (Acts 17:28; Rev. 4:11) More important, Jehovah looks after our spiritual needs. (Luke 12:42) He also assures us that he personally listens as we pray to him. (1 John 5:14) However, the foremost way in which God draws us to himself and we are drawn to him is through the love he expresses by means of the ransom. (1 John 4:9, 10, 19) Jehovah sent his “only-begotten Son” to the earth so that we might be delivered from sin and death. (John 3:16) Jehovah has made it possible even for people who lived before the time of Christ to benefit from the ransom. From the moment Jehovah prophesied about a future Savior for mankind, the ransom was as good as paid from his viewpoint, for he knew that his purpose would not fail.—Gen. 3:15. w14 8/15 3:7, 8

I am a person who thrives on interaction. I am drawn to people who I can interact with easily & who are NOT distant + uncommunicative
Interaction is the MOST BASIC thing required to establish a strong friendship / relationship / bond. So the question is this: How the heck am I supposed to draw close to someone who DOES NOT interact with me???

Anders Andersen
Anders Andersen 5 days ago

God does interact with you. You just have to listen! You're not trying hard enough!
And you got it all backwards: "for whoever approaches God must believe that he is"
So first you should start believing, then you can approach God, and then the voices in your head will take over

On a more serious note: yeah, normally friends communicate with each other. One person just talking to an invisible, unheard imaginary friend can not be called communication.
And a collection of ancient letters from that 'friend', written by 40 guys I don't know either, that doesn't help either. Just because there are books in the library doesn't mean I'm friends with all those writers...

Oh... so THAT was what I was doing wrongly! LOL
Yeah, I DID believe... for more than 20 years as a born-in. As a JW, I never felt any genuine & true personal relationship with Jokehova. All the time, it was just me wanting to believe & convincing myself that it was real. Thanks for the brainwashing, mum & dad!

Exactly. Everything is totally ONE-SIDED & there is not a single shred of interaction. I remember quite a number of arguments saying that you can just simply pick any object or thing & pray to it & get the same results. LOL

And a collection of ancient letters from that 'friend', written by 40 guys I don't know either, that doesn't help either. Just because there are books in the library doesn't mean I'm friends with all those writers...
Yup. Not to say that those writings are OVERWHELMINGLY CONVINCING anyway! If the author of the Bible was REALLY God, I'm sure he could do better!
Result of reading the Bible: 40,000+ different Christian denominations. Great job, God!!!

I realized after growing up "in" that when things went well people thought Jehovah was communicating with them. Well, doesn't everyone think that of their God?
I came to the conclusion that if there was a God who was both powerful enough and sophisticated enough to create the universe as we know it, he would be a better communicator. Supposedly, he can create planets and universes and creatures that love to communicate, but he can't even get his message straight to his followers. Then, he sends out confusing messages to them as a test to see if they can figure it out and "follow" him correctly.
That's just insanity. You can't "grow close" to that!

Well said Spiral, a fumbling, casual, whimsical god who gives mixed messages and lives apparently with no tangible evidence for his existence. Worse still he claims to zap those who don't believe in him or misinterpret his message.
Truly I'm very glad there is no such thing as a god.
If there were... it would be hell on Earth if his Bible is anything to go by; being scrutinised for error, fearing punishment and lacking the freedom of humanity which has come through philosophical thinking, passing learning down the generations and democracy.
Thank goodness there is no god!
As a JW, I heard others talk about being so pleased that they had an intimate relationship with Big J, talking to him all the time and relying on him for everything...I felt deficient, just couldn't get the hang of it, I never felt close to a spirit Thing even as a pioneer. Yep it's insane!

Spot on! I don't see the need for God to keep on testing us while NOT giving us enough proof & assurance of his existence, love, & care, then destroying at Armageddon any who fail the tests (which happen to be the majority of mankind who are unconvinced of God's unconvincing message - is it their fault???) while at the same time NOT desiring any to be destroyed!
Sounds insane? But yet that's what many believe!

You know what I realize about these ones? That they are just trying to convince themselves that they have a personal relationship with God & that everything that happens - good or bad - is due to God's will. Something good happens? A blessing from God! Something bad happens? God is not to blame (although he allows it!). God is thanked for good things that happen out of pure coincidence & not blamed for bad things which happen in the same way! JW's are trained not to give in to doubts & negative feelings, so EVERYTHING that happens automatically HAS to be right - even if it's not, they would find a way to justify it!
As.a JW, I was trained to look at only one side of the picture. Now that I see the other side, things are starting to make more sense!

Maybe many people think they're worshipping God, but instead are worshipping Time. God has no beginning or end........but so does Time.
You look at a beautiful warerfall or canyon, appreciating a creator, but in reality it was eons of time.
Of course Time doesn't care about you, just as it didn't when 100,000+ people were wiped out in the tsunami.
I guess I must be an agnostic now, but I can't really know?

Although it's not certain, it very well might be that Time started with the Big Bang. So possibly not even that 'God' existed before our universe existed.
Yeah. It's dizzying :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Who,s god created the big bang, an anti god that had been around for longer than he can remember, he got bored and said, "This is not good, I will create a big bang and out of it will come a confusing god, that is a lesser god than I. So he created "I Am who I Am" and told hime that he had been from time indefinite...Hey, this would make a good book....

That's where I stand, too.
I agree about the lack of interaction. Supposedly God used to perform miracles. Why'd he stop? It's not fair. The Hebrews got the parting of the Red Sea; we get Stephen Lett.
I don't know how to draw close to God. I used to think that one could do so by supporting JWdom, being zealous in the ministry, etc.,but then I found TTATT.
I still go out and look up at the starry sky and beg for answers, for some kind of interaction, for some kind of sign... and I get nothing but complete silence, or the sound of crickets if they're active. It's actually starting to anger me. Lately, I've been saying things like "What do you want? Here I am begging you for answers, and I'm willing to sacrifice and suffer to serve you, but you hide yourself. Where are you??? Why won't you reveal yourself?" And I walk away frustrated as if I'm talking to air.
I've sometimes wondered whether one can draw close to God by learning about and appreciating and respecting the earth and the universe. I often find myself in awe of the physical world around me... but then I think about all the horror in nature and I get angry at any potential god when I observe it (the horror). The world has been filled with horrible suffering for millions of years. I've witnessed a lot of it myself. So I find it difficult to draw to close by observing the natural world.

I agree about the lack of interaction. Supposedly God used to perform miracles. Why'd he stop? It's not fair. The Hebrews got the parting of the Red Sea; we get Stephen Lett.
Exactly. What's the point of going from door to door with an unconvincing message that people don't bother listening to? If God REALLY wanted people to listen & didn't desire any to be destroyed, wouldn't it make more sense for him to grant his witnesses the ability to perform convincing miracles that people CANNOT deny?

And I walk away frustrated as if I'm talking to air.
Well....that's because you are talking to air.
The Biblical God doesn't make sense on so many levels, it's quite ridiculous to think it exists. And since that flavor is the most spread flavor of God, I tend to assume that if there were a God, this would be it. So my conclusion is: none exist.
BTW isn't it strange that before some Roman emperor made Christianity the state religion, most people on earth worshipped all kinds of true God's, and never heard about Jehovah? Only a small country of shepherds worshipped that one. Doesn't make much of an impression.
Especially because those shepherds at times also worshipped other Gods they thought were equally real as Jehovah. Can you imagine seeing all the supposed miracles by Jehovah, and then go worship a wooden idol? Of course not! So either the miracles never happened, or it wasn't clear Jehovah performed them, or the miracles attributed to the other God's were just as convincing.
For me it was an eye-opening moment to realize that to the Israelites, 'false' gods were just as real as Jehovah.
And they are just as real, as none of them actually exists as a living being....

It amused me when someone said that Jar Hoover had shown them that a certain course of action was the right one. Then someone else would say that they didn't agree.
Thanks for making that clear, Jar Hoover!
If I talk into thin air and no one answers, it's pretty obvious there's no one there.

Two things are working for me on my journey:
turning my back on religion, and pursuing the scandalously liberating gospel of grace instead.
The real reason the Watchtower desperately feared Ray Franz and had him killed (aka DFd).

Heaven, I am with you. Interesting how the JW bible muddies up that scripture in Proverbs a bit, so it doesn't sound so drastic.
Funny how so many human belief systems start with humans being "sinful" and then having to spend their whole lives being " whipped" and "chastised" to be acceptable to God. You get your reward later, much later, maybe. Feeling the love, aren't we?
Again, just insanity.

"Jesus was obviously speaking about those who were old enough to witness with understanding what took place when the 'last days' began. ... Even if we presume that youngsters 15 years of age would be perceptive enough to realize the import of what happened in 1914, it would still make the youngest of 'this generation' nearly 70 years old today." Awake! 1968 Oct 8 p.13
My friends, effective May 12, 2016, this WT prophecy is officially false.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susannah_Mushatt_Jones
Susannah Mushatt Jones passed away on May 12th. She was the last living person that was born before July 28, 1899, exactly 15 years before the beginning of WWI on July 28, 1914.

Nice find.
Some more will follow as the age requirement to be included in the 1914 generation was lowered a couple of times afaik.

Yes... I believe they lowered it to "10 years or less", then "5 years or less", then "born in 1914".
I have studied the average maximum lifespan of the verified oldest people and it increases about 1 year every decade, so we will have to wait 6 years for the next, 12 years for the next, and 17 or so more years until the "born in 1914" people all pass away.

Did  wt not also declare these old prophecies to be intrinsically false when they introduced the "anointed" and then the underlapping overlapping groups anointed generation? without waiting for the supercentenarians to actually appear in the obituaries, thereby sealing the false! label, as pointed out in ILoveTTATT2's  OP?

Not to mention that they baptize children much younger. My own father was baptized at the age of 12, and that was in the 1940s.
They have contradicted themselves so many times over the past 100 years, it's enough to make your head swim trying to keep track!

That Awake article was published during the 1975 fervor.
After Armageddon failed to arrive on schedule, I think they dropped it from 15 to 10 years of age to buy themselves a few more years.
When that didn't work, it became anyone born before or during 1914.
Now it's anointed whose lives overlap with anointed who were alive in 1914 or some such thing that no one understands.

1914 in itself was the most fraudulent doctrine that the WTS. publishing house created and held onto for over 100 years, and used that year as a base from all other preceding end times doctrines .

The WTS/JWS were not faithfully loyal and obedient to God or Jesus in that Jesus admonished his true faithful followers to not make a time on god's own sacred time, as mentioned in scripture.

Whomever is a part of the "generation" has to see everything occur, not just some of it.
From my perspective, none of those folks are a part of the "generation" spoken of. And 1914 is plain silly, invisible presence .... pffft!

I wonder when the WTS will come outright and honestly say the organization misinterpreted what was complied concerning 1914 ???
Hundreds of other Christian based faiths never said a word about 1914 as a significant year to all Christians.
Maybe they were right in doing so ?
So the question remains who were the commercialized false prophets and false teachers ?

They all died without seeing a thing occur. Therefore, WTBTS has it wrong IMHO; those folks are not "THE this generation".
And that means 1914 is as meaningless a date as 1874, 1975, and 2016.
Of course, it would be silly for Bible believers to insist that God would be on man's timetable. (A 365 day Mayan one at that.) Those wild n crazy 1800's 'Mercans.

i've been using the forum to vent and post a lot more frequently lately as a venting purpose & way to obtain peace of mind with the craziness i've been going through recently as i fade away form the org.

anyways today i'm sitting here at work and thinking to myself about demons... ok i know this sounds crazy but has anyone else out there been traumatized by the thought of demons?

i had a dream the other night, just flat out spooky and i woke and couldn't help but feeling it may have been evil ole' satan and his demons at it again.. i don't want to believe that, (trying not to, & just brushing it under the rug so to speak) but have any of you out there been talked up about demons?

so how many are not going to the regional convention this year?

it will be my first year not attending as part of my fade.. i remember going for all of my childhood into adult hood, participating in stage parts even.. however, last assembly i was already mentally checked out.

i remember looking around and seeing all of people bobbing & nodding at the program talks that had been previously repeated time and time again.. almost seemed like hypnosis.. i also had a hard time with the fact that we're all supposed to be "friends" and everyone had always seemed to be so judgmental.. especially at conventions & assemblies.. things like who had the best outfit for the days, who looked the prettiest, who can snag the single ms brother.. who took the most spiritual food out of the program, how many times can you tally mark jehovah's name.

the religoios lessons themselfs are not missed, they were actually quite dull, and i realize i learnt nothing of value from them.

instead a quite evening at home playing with my boy is more endearing.. yes my life has moved on, i occassionaly see members of my former congregation in shopping centers, or they are putting the kids in to the back of the car and inside i believe most of them have bottled it, they prefer the comfort to the " truth" who am i to expose the can of worms.. many of course can blame parents or grandparents for having grown up as outcasts in school and i hope if they do leave like me they hold no resentment.

indoctrination is a terrible thing, and even false prophecy, royal commissions, and proof that many of the elders in the congregation are complete and utter shits won't change them.

i was recently thinking before i became " mike" i was an innocent baby, then as the days passed slowly by, i developed a sence of " iam".

as the days moved forward my body, slowly developed a a "sex organ" whilst my mind took on a sence of " emotional" and " intellectual" i am" .

this allowed me to become my current " i am?.

i'm wondering at how far the borg could go in begging for money?

their halls are already resembling the"money changers in the temple".

as they get sued more and more due to their pedophilic paradise their coffers will be ever more drained.

The smug arrogance of "having the truth".

has anyone noticed that witnesses (from the top down) seem to have a quiet form of smug arrogance toward all non witnesses?.

perhaps it comes from being told how "special and unique" they are but they end up looking down on all normal members of the community because they are not witnesses.. so any form of "love" they show those in the territory is also limited as long as they accept the message...otherwise they are viewed contemptuously as "worldly" and therefore of little value...after all, they will be destroyed right?.

greetings, fellow posters:.

i bought a nearly new 7-speed bicycle at a yard sale for $30 last weekend and took it out this morning on our paved local bicycle/walking trail.

the last time i rode was in my early- to mid- twenties when i used a bicycle to get to and from the kh for my pioneer service.
