How interesting! See a similarity?
Don't question the leaders or doctrine, because they are obviously correct...

Holy Crap, not only did he get the evil notion to question anything from higher education....but....the answer, of course which is you do NOT question doctrine came from the doctrines own writing! Heck yes I see a similarity!😝 A cult by any other name.......

If by "question" you mean critically then I can't think of many situations where you can question critically anyone who has some kind of power over you. The only way around that, if you really want to be heard, is to go to the person that has power over them.
And therein lies the problem. Religions have a free pass in many ways like discrimination for eg because God is their boss and only the highest ranking in the group have access to that boss - kinda sucks doesn't it.

Was having an amiable business meeting with a mormon recently and he was telling me how they don't drink alcohol.
I mentioned that the first miracle performed by jesus was turning water into wine.
He told me that it was his understanding that the wine mentioned in this case was 'pure grape juice ' and not alcoholic.
Belief truly is the enemy of reason.

joey jojo: "pure grape juice"? Greek word for wine is "oinos" the same greek word used in
Ephesians 5;18 "do not get drunk on pure grape juice". Ok that doesn't make sense to get drunk
on grape juice. Jesus made some kick ass, back wood, red mountain wine. If you are going to make
up a story, make it interesting. Turning water into grape juice is no big deal, you just drop a few grapes
in the vat.
Yes I agree "belief truly is the enemy of reason".

Hi my friends on the board I have decided to write a story of my life after all my various questions that I have been asking all this while. You are really true friends because you always provide all the answers to my questions which I really appreciate. This is my story.
I was born in the year 1997 on the 13th of November. I am a born-in jw right from birth. I was baptized in the year 2008 on the 8th of March and I was judicially reproved in the same year I was baptized. In the year 2013 on the 1st day of July I was appointed to serve as a regular pioneer. I was awake in the year 2014. My mom is still a hardcore jw, but my father was disfellowshipped in the year 2015 on the 1st day of September though for adultery. He is not awake and I have tried every means to make him awake by showing him this forum but he has refused to be awake and he is still stuck in the cult, though he is not attending any cult meeting because of health reasons. I attend meetings once in a while. Thanks for reading.

Apologies if I'm doing the math wrong, but you were baptized at 10 or 11 years old, and also judicially reproved at 11 years old?

Thanks for the short version of your life (so far). Yeah, it looks like you were baptized young. Feel free to share more, many will read it. As many or as few details as you like.
My mom is hardcore JW, so is my wife and many in her family. Your dad, it sounds like there's hope but don't feel that you have to keep pushing him to see the light. You've shown him, and will have many opportunities to say your thoughts here and there. Good luck.

i was recently thinking before i became " mike" i was an innocent baby, then as the days passed slowly by, i developed a sence of " iam".

as the days moved forward my body, slowly developed a a "sex organ" whilst my mind took on a sence of " emotional" and " intellectual" i am" .

this allowed me to become my current " i am?.

The smug arrogance of "having the truth".
by stuckinarut2 in Jehovah's Witnesses
 » Personal Experiences & Reunions

has anyone noticed that witnesses (from the top down) seem to have a quiet form of smug arrogance toward all non witnesses?.

perhaps it comes from being told how "special and unique" they are but they end up looking down on all normal members of the community because they are not witnesses.. so any form of "love" they show those in the territory is also limited as long as they accept the message...otherwise they are viewed contemptuously as "worldly" and therefore of little value...after all, they will be destroyed right?.

I wonder if the future of the RC could be in doubt?
Never. They are too much of a cash cow.
WTS rakes in $$$ millions of dollars of contributions at RCs every year with virtually no overhead, aside from facility rental (which, typically, are indoor sports arenas not in much demand in the summer).
My prediction: RCs will become 2-day events, but only be held at JW assembly halls. The drop in contributions (2 days vs. 3 days) will be offset by the lack of a rental cost.

 +1 / -0
jookbeard
jookbeard 9 hours ago
Sir thats what I think, holding them in vast sports stadiums are a thing of the past because of the huge cost and safety requirements etc, indoor arenas must still be very expensive though, holding them in their own CA halls must be the way to go for them now.

Simon 13 hours ago

I had a couple of JW sisters call at my door today.
They started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what I thought of that.
I said it sounded like a mix of Disney and dumb.
They then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?
I said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.
They thought man created death by disobeying so I questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them. Apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.
I asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in Tsunami's, disease and so on.
At this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).
When I suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if I studied the bible and theology.
Then I told them I was brought up as a JW so knew it was all crap.
Now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why I'd left (and I think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).
Not much time to say much before they cut and run so I told them I'd left because I found out it was all based on lies and that the WatchTower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.
Oh no, you're thinking of the Catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "Catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").
"Well, I challenge you to do a search for the Australian Royal Commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police."
"Oh no, we disfellowship people like that" (like that is sufficient punishment for the crime). Well, I said, you'll have no reason not to check it out if you think they are squeaky clean. The fact is they didn't report crimes and allowed people to abuse others and the WatchTower put its own image ahead of the welfare of small children.
And they were gone.
Hopefully they will do a search and may learn things are not as they are portrayed. Talking to people in a cult who think they have the truth is so incredibly frustrating.

It's amazing how many of the uber dubs know nothing about what goes on in their own religion. Some that do know, just stick their heads in the sand. I believe those ones who know only stay in for the family and friends. Like they all say..."where else would we go?" Crazy!

One was keen to try and "defend" the WTS but simply claiming everything was untrue and lies (and they were not like those evil Catholics!!) and the other was tugging her sleeve and whispering "let's go, leave it".
I always think "that's it, they won't be back" but I don't think they are allowed to put you down as a DNC unless you specifically ask for it.
So in 6 months some new pair will appear and we'll get to play again.

Satan: "-- if Russel banged 20 women, or if some pedophile was JW and they didn't call the police.  agreed, compared to the happenings in the "Residential" schools, the RC church, Rotherham, Cologne, these are minor matters, tragic for the wt victims though they are. That is why the wt keeps trotting out David all the time, a man according to god's (the 7 guardians of doctrine)'s heart.
The big issues are current and past prophecies, doctrines. procedures.

It is interesting to observe the level of ignorance these folks have. They literally know nothing aside from what is taught in the meetings. The Watchtower keeps them so busy with multiple meetings, preaching, studying for meetings, family study, etc, that they have no will to research or know anything else.
Also a complete disconnect with reality. Claiming the ARC story is false when there is overwhelming evidence including video of the testimonies, etc.
No wonder the watchtower would much rather have these folks stand next to a cart, like scarecrows, lest they be exposed to any probing questions, by calling on people at doors.

Well, those two lovely sisters did not see that coming!
I've got to also love the way they suddenly change gear once you provide an extra bit of information - but the changed gear adds nothing of substance to their reasoning. They simply extend the simple-minded narrative.
Best line:Your response to their initial question about what it would be like if death were no more:
"A mix of Disney and dumb". Ouch!
Talk about bluntly apt.
Now if only those two shaken sisters can compose themselves, ditch the fairy stories and do some serious thinking about what you said.

I feel like a punk. The Spanish always come to my door, and there is some adorable kid with them. So I just say no thank you like a good little householder.
Of course......I'm also trying not to be disfellowshipped.
Lol.

If there is a kid being dragged along then I talk to the adult but the message is for the child.
Something along the lines of "oh, I was brought up to believe all that, but life is better since I got an education, saw it for what it is and left. I didn't want to go on being trapped in a cult and have it ruin my life".
Basically: you can leave when you grow up.

Quite disturbing that the 'it's all lies' claim appears so many times - I WATCHED it LIVE - I heard the way the leaders tried to mislead the ARC representatives, under oath and in a court of law - there was very little that was open, candid or transparent in their demeanour and choice of phrasing - although I had already heard and detected 'manipulative' speech and underhanded phrasing through the literature, it really bowled me over to hear such words come from the actual GB member and of course senior Legal Personnel/Brothers from the Society.
I felt a little sad for the elders under question - they were absolutely out of their depth in the face of honest and forthright questioning.....so many 'oh my goodness' moments - I'm glad I had already 'seen' the light, if I had watched the ARC proceedings in state of absolute trust and faith in the organisation, I'd have had a breakdown.
Oh wait a minute - I DID have a breakdown, but that was a couple of years before the ARC rolled out. Sheesh. I was heartbroken.

"...is so incredibly frustrating.."
"Cast not your pearls unto swine lest they trample them under foot and turn and rend thee"
re Alive comments on the ARC. They have been well informed by many of the tricks the elders and the gb got up to trying to deceive.

Well it's such a blessing that the holy spirit instructed them to come to your house while you were home so that . . . err, wait - nevermind.
They came to your door so that before you're destroyed you would have a chance to . . . err, wait - you'd already heard the message before.
The holy spirit guided them to your door so that . . .

Is it common practice to keep using Kingdom Halls after congregations have been dissolved?

I ask, because a neighboring congregation of where I used to attend was dissolved, and the people from there were scattered about to whatever congregation was closest. But it turns out that they still meet at the old Kingdom hall a couple times a week, for field service. Apparently this is done for tax purposes.
I suppose from a fiscal standpoint it makes sense, though it seems a little deceitful. It does beg the question, though: Why dissolve the congregation in the first place?

Maybe they have to meet there to keep it tax exempt? They could have dissolved for several reasons. They may not have had enough elders. They may have had an elder body that wasn't following directions. They may have had a large scandal among the elder body. If they couldn't source enough elders to replace them they would have to dissolve the congregation and send the publishers to other congregations. If they think they might recreate the congregation in the near future, it may be better to hold on to the hall instead of building a new one.

That's exactly the reason they're doing it.
If they think they might recreate the congregation in the near future, it may be better to hold on to the hall instead of building a new one.
I find it a little odd that it's been over a year, and the property, which is fully paid for, and deeded to the society, still hasn't been listed. It may well be for reasons other than financial, that they dissolved the congregation. But my sister and brother in law attended the congregation. He was an elder. I hadn't heard about anything negative going on. But then, I'm not always in the loop anymore.

Is the real estate market down in your area?
It is recovering in some areas and still slow in others. Maybe they think they should sit on the property a while longer?

I will say it certainly isn't normal. Something is up. Could be many things, though.
I hear the organization will keep secrets and lie to protect "Mother".
So good luck getting a straight answer.

Dangerous Offender at Kingdom Hall (Imagine if the 13-year-old were going door-to-door with another child?)

December 19, 2011- the appellant received 60 days in custody for breach of his s. 810.1 recognizance after meeting with an adult Jehovah’s Witness and a 13 year old boy at the appellant’s apartment as well as subsequently having contact with children at a meeting at the local Kingdom Hall. There, he was seen paying particular attention to children over the course of two hours.

Does anyone have a link or PDF copy of this?
I have a disfellowshipped friend who shares custody of her daughter with her witness ex-husband.
She is starting to have a lot of issues with the arrangement - her ex-husband and extended family (all witnesses) are constantly undermining her, bullying her daughter into changing her mind about certain decisions that they had already made together.
She is thinking that she may eventually have to go to court over it.
If anyone has this brochure it would be a big help, also if any of you have been in a similar situation, it would be helpful to gain some insight into what to expect.
thanks!

I give it 3 thumbs down.
The video starts with an ambulance in Peru. the ambulance people look at an ID and a no blood card in Spanish.
Quick flash away to now and a happy family of a couple with 2 young boys. All good kids it collages their everyday life, all centered around theocratic activities. The father walks with his own father. The older man says something about failing the mans brother. Its cryptic.
Grandpa picks up the kids from school one day, and there is an accident. the grandfather, and their youngest boy die.
The mans brother (clearly no longer a JW), misses the service and apologizes. But he comes out. After this, the father is laid off from work (after turning down a promotion because it would take him away from meetings), and then there is a tumor!
So now hes got debt, tumor, no kid, no dad, hes getting discouraged. His brother offers help, but says some snarky mess about him not being able to live in a prayer and fantasy world. He acknowledges his relationship with their father was strained because he didn't want to be a JW.
The guys tumor comes back. While he looks fine and seems good throughout, he tells the elders that visit they don't understand and he wants to die everyday waking up on the bathroom floor. This is not believable at all.

The father breaks down in front of the elders. Of course all the emotion is very surface. Muted almost. He has an old friend come to visit. Guy ends up helping him with his roof free of charge. they remember the good ole days and go for a walk. The guy reveals to all of us that he was serving in Peru and lost his wife. They both cry.
the dad finds strength in his faith, shares it with his family. Tumor/cancer gone. Reads scripture to the son. Apparently gets a new better job in a factory (old one closed down). Everyone is on the mend. Preaching to everyone as it closes.

the end
**The emotional tone was turned up here from the door. Lots of violin, sad music, imagery to conjure emotion in the viewer. Its well produced, and poorly acted which is kind of typical of these videos. The emotion from the people involved is not realistic however. Its very muted and unrealistic. I thought it was interesting that it was heavily suggested the friends wife in Peru dies due to not taking blood, but it was never directly stated. In the end everything is ok and there is no substance. Its just meant to make people cry.
Manipulative.......no surprises.

i had a couple of jw sisters call at my door today.. they started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what i thought of that.. i said it sounded like a mix of disney and dumb.. they then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?.

i said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.. they thought man created death by disobeying so i questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them.

apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.. i asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in tsunami's, disease and so on.. at this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).. when i suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if i studied the bible and theology.. then i told them i was brought up as a jw so knew it was all crap.. now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why i'd left (and i think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).. not much time to say much before they cut and run so i told them i'd left because i found out it was all based on lies and that the watchtower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.. oh no, you're thinking of the catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").. "well, i challenge you to do a search for the australian royal commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police.".

Jehovah Witness vs Jehovah's Witness

being brought up as a jehovah's witness means you are so used to the term that you rarely stop to think about it.. one thing i've noticed is that people unfamiliar with the religion will say "jehovah witness" (no 's) instead which i always found a bit grating.. but watching the us election, something struck me.

people are often referred to as "trump supporters", not "trump's supporters" and so on.

thinking about other things, people would say they were "united fan's", not "united's fans" and so on.. it seems weird that a group would refer to themselves as though it was someone else talking about them (in the 3rd person, if i have that right).. what do you think?

...and it's our duty to warn non-jws, or half awake jws about these events, as they start appearing in newspapers throughout the us, and abroad.

it almost comes out as a promotional ad for the jw convention.

the 'current events' editing staff of this paper likely has no idea what their promoting.
