I love this bullshit about men not wearing women's clothing, and vice versa.
So if a husband puts his coat around his cold wife's shoulders during an evening, we should stone her to death?
And if a tailor sews a dress, but for a specific man, is it men's clothing, or women's clothing? At what point during the manufacture does clothing inherit the magical quality of gender?

And don't even get started on how male and female fashion standards change wildly throughout history. To this day in German, "dress" is a masculine noun and "pants" is feminine, because ye olde Germanic men wore kilts and women wore stockings.

But... but... but... god's standards NEVER change!!!
=head asplodes=

It's amazing the bullshit that people are willing to believe and how obstinate they get about gender roles and boundaries despite the fact that it's completely arbitrary bullshit that defies all logic.

You're WAY overthinking this, mon chat noir le plus doux. Roving bands of superstitious, frightened, Bronze Age Deuteronomorans couldn't have ever taken it to this level. Your insightful queries (don'tcha just LOVE that word?!) on this topic lend the whole thing a lustre that is entirely undeserved…

If you examine the original text, written in tempera painted macaroni noodles glued to a paper plate, it says;.
''Don not thine finest garments made from women folk of no relation or kin- if your eldest son lacks a winter cloak.''
''Be humble and tread lightly in your mothers tunic, less thine penis be on display, for God sees all, but does not care.''

Where do they buy these robes? Do they shop during white sales or something? Do their wives or their mistresses make them? I mean you cannot buy them at Walmart. I guess they go to a secret store called "KKK Robes for all Occasions" to have them tailored and everything. They can try out the different kinds of hoods and undergarments while they look in the mirror.

At age 16 I received a call from Dad to come home right away. I must have given them the number where I would be....'helping' a college student with his cinematography assignment. No pagers or cell phones. I knew what it was about, had a feeling. Said I was working on something, I'll be there when I get there.
When I arrived home Mom was crying at the kitchen table, Dad called me into their bedroom.
"What's this about you being queer?"
"The word you're looking for is Gay, if you can't say that we're not discussing it."
I forget the rest of that conversation but I know it was volatile.
A few days later he took me to the basement (finished) to show me where in the bible it stated I was an abomination (Leviticus of course)
Now, you need to know, I was smart and hateful. I had already come out at high school in 1978 and took on all detractors with a vengeance.
After he explained how it's right there in black and white in English how God doesn't want me and neither do I. ( I love (not) how many think the myriad of English translations have the total meaning infallible.)
I asked who showed him this because I know you're functionally illiterate.
He refused to respond and was VERY pissed.
I asked him if he knew what else this chapter says.
He didn't.
So I went on to inform him that this was written for priests and that are more than 600 rules, did he know any other rules?
He didn't of course so I informed him of the dietary laws and the no shaving laws.
Then I said "you've eaten shrimp and pork both in the last week and shaved everyday. If we're just picking and choosing this crap, you keep doing what you're doing and I'll keep sucking cock!"
Don't know what possessed me to share all that, but I've stuck to it, don't come after me with you're perverted scripture translations, you will lose!
Edit: there is no video evidence of said cinamatography project. So just calm down.

Oh for sure, it's one of these bill templates created by either Liberty Counsel or the Witherspoon Institute that are shopped around to Christianist teabagger governors across the country at the same time.
For the so-called "faith based" law firms, it's WIN-WIN. If they win, they gain influence, and if their unconstitutional bill gets sued or better yet goes tot he supreme court, they rack up legal bills defending it.

Honestly, simply banning bacon would be reason enough for me to leave a religion.
Fun fact, of course you know they banned those due to trichinosis? There were only 20 cases of that last year in the USA, most actually related to the consumption of chicken. Modern pig farming has pretty much eliminated the problem.

I was never happy the boys thought looking up a dress was funny. I didn't want to have to worry if I was sitting right in a dress. In grade school, all girls had to wear a skirt/dress. I fought it by wearing pants all the time. Especially when it was cold and deep in snow. I got sent home to change a lot.

I've been under the impression that the contemporary iteration of women's skirt comes from a long line of easy access clothing. But you got a point. Until as recent as early 20th Century, little boys wore girl clothes until they're breeched, i.e. when they learned to undo the complicated zipping mechanism of pants to relieve themselves.

I've always appreciated the parable about green eggs and ham, and the fact that we must try something before we can can determine whether we like it. Sam is clearly an allegory for humanity in this case, due to the self-identification and I feel we should live our lives by this.
I do like green eggs and ham. I do like them, Sam I am!

It is about time all the twisted "biblical" 3000 year old Neanderthal UNCIVILISED BULLSHIT these grifting lunatic hatemongers are peddling be put in the ash can of history.
Just look at Shoebat, Kevin Swanson, HB2, and all those vindictive, murderous blood vendetta pastors all over the US map. And the evil spawn of GOP scapegoat "morality"
Hitler, Franco, Mussellini, Pol Pot, ISIS, and "Xian" African tyrants are into this kind of Holocaust Depravity with millions of human souls being exterminated when things get into the full swing of its horror.
Religion on the whole has promoted more violence, hatred and death than any other "ISM" out there. A person can be free to believe there is something beyond the self, but can be "religiously free" to propagate hate speech, and say that is guaranteed by 1st Amendment.
I'm sorry, but it is 2016 now, NOT 2000 B.C. It and it is time for civilised societies, around the world to get over the ancient ignorant blind hatred of fellow humans.
It is time to tax all the religions on both property and income. It is also time to rework the 1st Amendment to CAREFULLY and FULLY define, for our digital information age, what the nuances of free speech really should allow, and what it should CLEARLY PROHIBIT.
Because society cannot afford to tolerate HATEFUL INCITEMENT against any group of human beings, no matter how different they are from the HATER in heritage culture, language, sexuality, gender, knowledge, persuasion, personal belief, occupation, People should not remain free from prosecution for advocating hatred, violence and discrimination against any other person or group. PERIOD.

Oh yea - my short sleeve Ts are usually men's small - I prefer "straight cut". So I have only two articles of female clothing, bra and panties. Arrest me!!! (Do dangly earrings count? That would be a third article of clothing) - and yes, I do pee behind trees when I am out camping in the woods.

O/T Looks like anti-Trump protests got a little violent* in my city of Albuquerque tonight.
http://www.kob.com/albuquerque...

9:15 p.m.
Albuquerque police say they used smoke grenades to disburse a crowd of angry protesters outside a Donald Trump rally after demonstrators threw burning T-shirts, plastic bottles and other debris at officers.
Initial indications were that it was tear gas, but an officer said police used smoke and some pepper spray as the protesters became violent.
The unruly crowd overran police barricades earlier in the night and overturned trash cans as Trump spoke to some 4,000 supporters inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Some protesters were also escorted out of the event after interrupting the candidate's speech.
8:50 p.m.
Protesters charged police as officers in riot gear and mounted patrol units worked to push back a rush of protesters outside the Albuquerque Convention Center following a rally for Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
The protest grew more tense as night fell, forcing police to fire tear gas into the crowd. After a few moments, the protesters went back at police.
Some threw burning T-shirts, plastic bottles and other items at officers and overturned trash cans and knocked down barricades.

As I write this, at 9:45p MT, CNN is covering the protests live. They do seem to have calmed down somewhat, seems most of the violence was from a couple hours ago.
* = I do not condone violence, vandalism, or destruction of any kind, not even in opposition to Trump and his campaign of lies, bigotry, division and hate. Just reporting what I'm reading.

He's at the Anaheim Convention Center tomorrow. (Bernie was there today). On my drive home, there was segment about it on the news station because last time Trump was in SoCal the protestors got rowdy. The Anaheim police said they won't allow protests to get out-of-hand so it will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

The cops were saying the same thing here in ABQ, earlier today. Seems it didn't hold.
All I can say is the likelihood of Trump getting my state's electoral college votes is basically nil. Which isn't to say he won't get any popular votes -- there are a whole lot of racist wingnuts in this state, especially in the eastern parts. But his chances of winning overall? Not going to happen, I'm confident about that.

On Tuesday [Harry] Reid had a different message, signaling to fellow Democrats that pressuring Sanders is not the way to go.
"I've had conversations with Bernie, he's a good person, he's doing his best to effectuate what he believes in, and I have no criticism of Bernie at this stage," Reid said.

I remind all readers here that the ACLU once went to court to defend the right of neo-Nazis to march in Skokie Illinois.

ALABAMA: Ku Klux Klan Flyer Cites Christian Scripture In Attack On Transgender “Abominations”
May 24, 2016 Hate Groups, Religion

AL.com reports:

Anti-transgender fliers claiming to be from a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan were distributed in at least one Dothan neighborhood.
“It is a free speech issue. There is no threat put in there, no call to arms. It looks like they are asking for donations and putting out a political agenda instead of a hate-based one,” Dothan Police Capt. Will Benny said.
“We are kind of monitoring the situation right now,” he said, adding the fliers were forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The flier from the Loyal White Knights of the KKK called being transgender “an abomination, according to the King James Bible.”
The flier quotes Deuteronomy 22:5: “A woman shall not wear that pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment. For all that do are an abomination unto the Lord thy God.”

Just more proof of what religion does to politics when it forces its way into the process.
While the right cry this may not be true, Bush has been asked about it and has never denied the conversation, nor the quote.
The right has always been 1 step away from Fascism, and has had their leaders actually support Fascists and other dictators. The right may actually step into Fascism as the lose power. The American right needs to be watched, and the Romanians should be fearful of a strong church.
http://www.positiveatheism.org...
Sherman: What will you do to win the votes of the Americans who are atheists?
Bush: I guess I'm pretty weak in the atheist community. Faith in God is important to me.
Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?
Bush:
No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor
should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.

Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?
Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists.

Romania is most famous for its horrible, overcrowded orphanages, where children are ignored and neglected, and they think than banning same sex marriage is important. Where are their priorities? Of course, it is the good, religious people behind this again

Holding up straw men and bogey men like "the gays" and focusing on their non-existent threat is a great way for the resurgent church to get the people to ignore that their policies on birth control and women's rights are almost exactly the same as the unlamented Ceaususcu's. An added bonus is that they don't have to put in the effort it would take to REALLY solve the problems of orphanages and early pregnancy.

I lived in Bucharest for an academic year during the time Romania was a Soviet Republic. At that time the orthodox church was nearly nonexistent. There were some lovely old orthodox churches there, but they were basically museums, just as the ones in Russia were during that time. The orthodox church has been making up for lost time, not unlike someone who comes out a bit later than average.
It was an interesting time, complete with a bugged telephone, a microphone in a wall lamp in my apartment, and a coterie of spies who took turns following me on the streets and occasionally taking photos if I was walking with a Romanian citizen. I met some absolutely wonderful people there, but I was quite ready to come back home at the end of the project.

Yes, they did. We had to be very careful to avoid certain subjects that could get them in trouble. I have no idea what the Romanian officials thought they were going to learn from me. But when I had guests, I always picked up the phone and told them what language we would be speaking. LOL We westerners took great delight in tormenting the spies.

To temporarily disable a bugged rotary phone, turn the dial and jam it between numbers. The dialing circuit disconnects the transmitter and receiver during pulses, to prevent loud noises in the earpiece.

They did that with all the farm products too. For example, there was a 2-month period when eggs were not available during my time in Bucharest. I had access to the diplomatic supply resources. Out of desperation I ordered some eggs to be shipped in from Austria. When I opened the package, they were all nicely stamped "Product of Romania."

I've been reading about Romania under the Communists and ...while I condemn their actions today...I mostly feel sad for them. They traded one abusive despotic government for another and they still have the exact same problems. No sex education, little to no access to birth control or legal abortion...and the authorities are still trying to distract them by focusing on straw men like "the gays."
The entire country is one big, wounded victim.

That may very well true, but it is up to the people themselves to throw off the yoke of superstition and to demand better for themselves and their children. It's not easy, but it they reached out for help, it would be there. This has been done before and can certainly still be done. The people allow the church power and the church will never give it up until the people demand they do so.

Well, I kind of look at it more like a situation between a battered wife and her husband. Do you blame the wife...or do you try to help her? I agree, what they are doing to us is inexcusable, but they are being led and encouraged to do so by others through coercion. At the end of the day the people of Romania are still responsible for their actions, I just think it is a lot more complex than "they are terrible people."

No, Joesph, I'm not blaming the people anymore than I would blame a person being battered by a partner. In both cases there must be help, but the gestures of reaching out must come from the person in trouble.
I'm not even calling the people terrible. But, the first step is the people of the country wanting to change things. I thought I had made that clear, but perhaps I didn't.

ROMANIA: Orthodox Church Collects Three Million Signatures In Push To Ban Same-Sex Marriage
May 24, 2016 Civil Rights, Marriage Equality

Agence France-Presse reports:

Romanian campaigners said Monday they had collected three million signatures on a petition to block same-sex unions in the EU member state.
Several groups linked to the Orthodox Church and united under the umbrella Coalition for Family are seeking a constitutional amendment to narrowly define marriage as the “union between a man and a woman”.
It is the second such move in Europe this month after a group of mostly right-wing Italian politicians said they will push for a referendum to overturn the introduction of gay civil unions in their country.
“This is a historic moment,” said Mihai Gheorghiu, one of the leaders of the Romanian initiative, which has been given strong backing by the Church.
“Three million Romanians, in an unprecedented show of solidarity, signed this proposed amendment.”
The campaigners want parliament to change the wording of the current law which says marriage is a union between “partners”, but they face strong opposition from gay rights groups.
