Religions control over sexual issues

Dear Readers,

Jewish atheist sex therapist Marty Klein posed a great question: Why are "religious beliefs" always about sex? We always have religious groups trying to limit people's sexual rights by using politics. We have religious institutions threating their members with either hellfire or that they will be killed by their god's army during the "last days" of the world and will face eternal death and miss out on "paradise" or "heaven" if they ever dare to engage in premarital sex, open marriages ( spouse swapping), non-marital sex ( unmarried couples), watch pornography, use sex toys, are into foreplay, engage in sexual behavior with some one of the same-sex or if they are in a relationship with one or more persons at the same time (polyamory).  I've always been open-minded even when I did believe in a god, despite have joined so many religious groups ( I was involved with  20 religious groups, at least. Most of them were Christian) whose beliefs and practices that I ended up disagreeing with. The sexual acts that people engage in that happen in private is personal business. I think we need to have thoughtful discussions about sexuality and sexual expression. Look at how the Hobby Lobby craft store which is a Christian-based organization which does not want to include heath coverage that pay for women who wish to have an abortion, for single women to give birth to children or for same-sex couples who legally married because of the Hobby Lobby's religious views. When I was growing up, I was told by the JW's that abortion was "murder". How about the Canaanite children in their mothers' stomachs who were ruthlessly slaughtered by the Hebrews? Where is the sympathy for the children in this story, even if this never happened?

Abortion is merely terminating a pregnancy. Fetuses are not children. If it came to decapitating an infants head right after they were born, I would certainly oppose that. I think women should have the right to terminate a pregnancy and I strongly encourage comprehensive sex education which would greatly help reduce the rates of teen pregnancy, unwanted pregnancies and abortions. The Biblical authors never mentioned abortion. I'm pretty sure that the unborn Egyptian children killed under the order Yahweh in the Book of Exodus in Egypt because of Pharaoh's refusal to allow the Hebrew slaves to leave Egypt which causes Yahweh to harden Pharaoh's heart and eventually this results in the death of the Egyptian ruler and his army by Moses, after the Israelites had left Egypt and have crossed the Red Sea, with Moses using his staff by having the wall of waters engulf the Egyptian oppressors.

Sexuality and sexual expressions are an issue that should be left up to the individual and not religious leaders.

Sincerely,

B.W.
