International superstar Prince is back on the copyright warpath, yet again targeting individuals who are quite possibly some of his biggest fans. In a lawsuit filed in the Northern District of California, Prince is chasing down fans who found links to his live concerts and posted them on Facebook and blogs. The unlucky 22 individuals, 20 of whom are yet to be identified, face a damages claim of $22 million.
Prince Rogers Nelson is undoubtedly a great and prolific singer/songwriter, but if people want to be a fan they better pay for every last second of his music they listen to – or else.
Prince loves to file copyright infringement lawsuits and at the start of 2014 another has landed, ready to stir up a storm as the details become known and the case develops.
Filed in the United States District Court in the Northern District of California, the lawsuit targets 22 individuals, only two of which are referenced by their real names. The others remain ‘Does’ although eight are indicated by their online nicknames.
Sadly, with names such as PurpleHouse2, PurpleKissTwo and NPRUNIVERSE it’s difficult to see these people as anything other than Prince fans. But it is Doe 8 – THEULTIMATEBOOTLEGEXPERIENCE – that gives the clearest indication of what this lawsuit is all about.

"The Defendants in this case engage in massive infringement and bootlegging of Prince’s material,” the lawsuit reads.
“For example, in just one of the many takedown notices sent to Google with respect to Doe 2 (aka DaBang319), Prince identified 363 separate infringing links to file sharing services, with each link often containing copies of bootlegged performances of multiple separate musical compositions.”
While it’s clear by now that Prince doesn’t share the same opinions as the Grateful Dead or Nine Inch Nails on bootlegs, for once a file-sharing site isn’t in the cross hairs. The lawsuit says that the defendants used Facebook and Google’s Blogger “to accomplish their unlawful activity”, either by running fanpages or blogs and linking to live concert recordings without permission.
The complaint lists several pieces of audio offered by the defendants, concluding Prince performances from 2011 in North Carolina, 2002 in Oakland and 1983 in Chicago. Apparently even the circulation of a 31-year-old live set damages Prince’s earning capability, with the singer leveling charges of direct copyright infringement, ‘unauthorized fixation and trafficking in sound recordings’, contributory copyright infringement and bootlegging.
“Prince has suffered and is continuing to suffer damages in an amount according to proof, but no less than $1 million per Defendant,” the reads.
Prince has a long tradition of suing anyone who dares to use his material without permission, but doesn’t always carry through on his threats. A 2007 to sue The Pirate Bay went nowhere. This new lawsuit is likely to go much further.

These artists who think they can stop fans from sharing 'their material' are idiots. At the least it's another facet of the black market, but ideally it's a marketing tool.
There are hundreds of lesser known indie acts with a lot less money giving away material for free so they can gain promotion, views, fans, etc.
I think Brother Prince needs to remove the rafter from his own eye before he tries to remove the needles from his fan's eyes.

A Chilliwack, B.C., family is furious with the RCMP for failing to return their 15-year-old daughter after police found the runaway teen at a downtown Vancouver hotel.
Jeff Wier and Candis McCarville-Wier are the legal guardians for Cassidy McCarville; Candis is also her biological mother. The teen became a Jehovah’s Witness two years ago but her parents are not followers, and that has been a point of strife between Cassidy and her parents.
Candis says her daughter has taken the religion too far — preaching door to door instead of doing her school work. When she tried to ground Cassidy on Tuesday night, preventing her from going to a Jehovah’s Witness meeting, the teen ran away from home.

And once again, someone else is being blamed for problems they are having with a teenager. My question, if neither are practicing JW's parents; how did the girl become so involved? Apparently the parents weren't really keeping a close eye on their child? and now it's someone else's fault??

Chilliwack is very near here. Tough neighbourhood. It's a favourite place for developers to build cheap seniors housing, but always have gates installed to keep the locals out. All sorts of bad social issues going on there.

My first question is: what is the watchtowers policy on men wearing make up, 2nd question would be; will they hold a judicial committee for one of their baptized members promoting fornication, suggestive sex, suggestive sexual dancing, etc?
Lastly; I used to be a fan of someone who can write music and is good on the guitar, but Prince is on my boycott list now.

The regular folk who don't earn money and who don't have a high profile in the publicity driven celebrity world of 'hey guess what folks ... I'm one of the Jehovah's Witnesses' ..... would be in massive trouble and kicked out on their asses for doing what Prince does.
Prince gets away with it because it would be worse for the WBTS if he walked out and publicly stated he was no longer one of the jdubs!

The JW thing aside, Ive got to say, Prince is one Baaaaaaad Mother Fucker. That dude can pump a jam out of a recording studio like nobodys business! If I was a member of the Governing Body Id have an office in that fucking guys recording studio just so I could be there when hes making magic.
Whenever I hear one of his songs though I always remember hes a Jdub, and imagine him sitting at home studying the Watchtower with a pen underlining shit while his radio cycles thru its MP3 bank. Suddenly, Darling Nikki comes on, and it doesnt phase him one bit. He just keeps underling shit while the radio croons on in his own voice about a teenage slut who showed up at his hotel and started masterbating with a magazine in the lobby while she was waiting for him. With all seriousness he pulls out his Bible and starts to cross reference a scripture from the Watchtower hes reading and the random feature on his CD player drops another one of his tracks in the background: "AwwwwwWWWAwwww! You sexy Motha Fucka!" As he sets the Bible down the background singers chant their rythmic support "23 positions in a one night stand!"
Finally he finishes, lays his meticulously underlined Watchtower on a coffee table made from the shell of a giant tortoise, puts his hot pink chaffron jacket on, and jumps on a giraffe died purple like the rain in his soul. It carries him out of the room and into the hallway. As he leaves, the MP3 player just turns itself off. No one knows why. MP3 players just do that on their own when Prince leaves a room even if they dont belong to him.
Suddenly, his cell phone rings, and its a member of the Governing Body!
"Good Afternoon Prince, This is Brother Sanderson. How are you today?"
"Mark! Wassup ma biznitch. Im chilling ice cold, like the bottom of a Pepsi. Whats crackin playa?"
"Well we where all sitting around talking and your last video single had all those half naked ladies playing in a pool of whip cream, and then there was that thing with the 3 story tall phallic shaped trumpet that you had the bikini clad oiled up ladies sliding down like a slide in a sexually provocative manner, and we where kinda of shocked by it. We where wondering what your thoughts on this where. Is there something we can do to help you kind of maybe, reign it in a bit?"
"Yo, so um, Prince is an artist see. When an idea comes to Prince, it is a blessing from Jehovah God, I prayed on this, and Jehovah did bless this track with a hot release. I mean, Prince sold 722,000 coppies of that joint this round.You dig? Thats some biblical shit motha fucka! What you say bud? Is it all straight?"
"Look, Im not sure what you just said. Im not sure why your speaking in the 3rd person about yourself. Im not even sure why Im calling you again, it never does any good. All Im saying is you keep going on the VMAs and giving praise to Jehovah, and telling people in interviews that your a Jehovahs Witness, but then you keep filming people fornicating in your videos. Your making this really hard."
"G-money, you know what else is hard? Being Prince. My giraffes purple dye job rubs off on my pants when Im trying to ride from the living room to the kitchen. Do you know how embarrassing it is to have purple saddle marks all around your crotch when your wearing a $1800 pair of custom made white leather fringed chaps? PS: The only possible explanation for Prince is publicity. If they boot him out, he brings them negative attention on a global level in the media. The JWs cant fight Prince. Hes bigger than they are.

The hypocrisy is massive Matt ..... and it's why people like Prince, the Williams sisters, George Benson and others tend to make us all wonder what type of people we are NOT ... given we're not afforded the same flexibility!
V ... that was a hoot to read! And yes ... I believe the negative publicity is what keeps Prince and the others in rather than out of the organisation! Imagine the loss of face the WBTS would have for kicking a successful recording artist (or two) and successful sporting sisters out into the cold!
What I wonder ... is do Prince, the Williams sisters, George Benson and whoever else ... ever actually read forums like ours and do they understand why we're so perplexed as to their religious status? It's not that we're jeolous of what they have or the talent they've got (I haven't enough to fill a little finger compared to them!) ........ it's not that we're angry at them ... it's the hypocrisy as Matt pointed out!

As the tape of the piano track clicks along you see him slowly rise out of the crowd and move down the aisle. At first your not sure if thats a woman in a lace top, or a really large 10 year old wearing his older sisters clothes, but whatever the case is, hes made it to the stage! The tiny woman/child climbs the stairs, walks over to the mic, and with an arrogance only attributed to a conquering King snatches it right out of the mic stand. Still with his back to the crowd he holds the mic in front of him like a pahllic cock while the congregation sings the verse. As the bridge comes around a drum beat slips into the piano track, and people are looking around at each other like "wtf is happening?"
The bridge wanders into its last two lines and suddenly the woman/child in lace flexes her ass cheeks twice, points a single finger up to the sky and says into the mic "Westgate Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses, ARE YOU READY TO PRAISE THE MOTHER FUCKIN LORD? PUT YOUR HANDS UP! PUT YOUR HANDS UP!" Suddenly he turns and faces the crowd and the people gasp in astonishment! Holy shit, that woman/child has a tiny little mustache and goatee! Thats not a woman at all, but an incredibly tiny man in womens clothes!
3 hot sluts wander up from row 2 and take up position behind him. One of them grabs the mic used to read The Watchtower and starts her chant, followed by the other 2: "oooooOOOOOOOo."
He looks out over the audience as he waits for the chorus to start and on the first beat reaches down between his legs to his inseam, grabs a great big handful and pulls, ripping his breakaway pants off and revealing his ass-less chaps.
As he sings "Were Jehovahs Witnesses, we speak out in fearlessness, ours is the God of true prophecy! What he for tells comes to be," he reaches out with his left hand, holding it over the podium at eye level and SNAP! a pearl inlaid guitar shaped like a broken heart flies across the room like Thors hammer and settles into his hand. (No one knows why guitars do this, but whenever Prince summons a guitar, it just comes to him, even if someone is already playing it.) For the first time in the history of the Westgate Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses, a guitar solo rips thru the hall. Teenage girls weep and tear off their tops exposing their titties, young boys begin to make out with each other as groups of homosexual kissing circles break out, and the wife of an Elder sitting near the first row spontaneously gets pregnant from the sexual heat outpouring from the stage.
Finally when its over, the hall is in chaos, the girls are all screaming and throwing panties and hotel keys at the stage, and Prince looks sweaty and spent. The microphone runners rush the stage and whisk him off to the bathrooms to clean up carrying him high on their shoulders like a golden calf.
As he enters the bathroom his cell phone rings and everyone hears his reply:
"Brother Sanderson! Whats poppin ya old cracka! I just set the stage at Westgate on motha fuckin fire son!"

In my experience there are different rules for different people. Those who are Elders and higher ups (GB members and their relatives especially) and the generously generating well-to-do Witz. There were plenty of both in the Columbia Heights Congregation that I once belonged to and in all those years there I never, ever, not one time, saw any of them come for field service meetings. They didn't do it. EVER!
Also, the society had lots of cars and vans--all garaged--available for 'theocratic' use. However these were NEVER used to take any JWs out in field service. For that we, the rank and file Dubs, had to walk, use the subway or make arrange other means to reach the territory as their unmarked vehicles drove by doing some more important work.

I'm sure you've all heard about Paris Jackson attempting suicide. I have to wonder how much of it is jw connected. According to jw beliefs, her father would not be eligible for a resurrection since he died df'd. I wonder how much of it she believes.

I feel sorry for the kids. They have been placed in an awkward position. Funny too is that they were given to their Grandmother and not their living Mother. Hopefully she is able to help support her children when they are upset about some of the crap they have to deal with.

I didn't watch the video, just saw the pictures. I wonder if he gave praise to Jehovah as he did on a previous video I saw of him accepting an award. He sure doesn't look like a jw is suppoed to look and you know that any other jw would be called into the back room if their profession had them going around looking like he does, with the makeup, tight clothes, whatever. I don't care about it myself, but the hypocracy that he gets away with it when other jws wouldn't is what gets to me. I guess they only get away with it if they make a lot of moeny and therfore might donate big time to the org. The hypocracy is just too much.

Interesting. Wish it continued. Prince sounds like he's rather weird. I wonder if he has a mental condition or something. I saw him on one show being interviewed and he was asked about voting and he sounded like a child by saying, "I'm a Jehovah's Witness and we don't vote or do any of that stuff." It sounded very immature. He didn't explain why they didnt' vote, just said, "We don't do any of that stuff," without giving a reason. I think that's what being a jw does to people, makes them like little children.

I also agree that the Jdubs are kept 'childlike' and that's not in any good way. They are childlike in their dependence on the WT to make decisions for them that most adults make on their own and would never consider having to ask somebody about. I mean really......"Can I talk to my mom who's decided not to be a JW but is otherwise a good person?"

Absolutely. I never felt properly 'grown up' until I left, and started to think for myself. Boy, was that a shock! So many things to decide on, abortion, drugs, poverty... now, I decide what I think about such things. Turns out I'm extremely liberal, who'd a thunk? Daunting sometimes, but overall it feels great.
None of the people I knew in the borg seemed like they felt 'grown up' either. So many repressed, unhappy people. So sad.

She described eldest brother Pedro as a heavy drinker who lived with his mom and rode a bicycle around the neighborhood.

I also read something very interesting by Elizabeth Smart......also part of a very cult like religion in her childhood......

“I remember in school one time, I had a teacher who was talking about
abstinence,” Smart told the panel. “And she said, ‘Imagine you’re a stick of
gum. When you engage in sex, that’s like getting chewed. And if you do that lots
of times, you’re going to become an old piece of gum, and who is going to want
you after that?’ Well, that’s terrible. No one should ever say that. But for me,
I thought, ‘I’m that chewed-up piece of gum.’ Nobody re-chews a piece of gum.
You throw it away. And that’s how easy it is to feel you no longer have worth.
Your life no longer has value.”
As Jessica Valenti points out, the chewing
gum analogy is a typical tactic employed by abstinence-only advocates to try
to scare teenagers away from having sex. And while stunts like those are often
delivered to coed groups, the messaging falls harder on girls: If one person is
the gum, the other person chews. It’s difficult to add a rape exemption to that
kind of visual. In the case that you’re abducted, does God lend you a fresh
stick?

WhyBird - Guess we live in the times when not much could shock us...we are seasoned to the harsh ways of living life.
I'm not surprised, just interested in how this side of the story, if true, plays out.
If, she helped hide the one of three that is guilty for the crime...I have little sympathy because of her religious belief.
You already know that filthy religion gets away with abuses that make many sick to their stomachs...but they get away with it under the guise of "religion" and politics protects them.
It will be interesting following this story because of politics.
I just love how governement continues protecting illegals...but that for another thread.

I'm thinking good luck getting an unbiased opinion from the media that uses words for helping create yet, another news story when ignoring others problems that affect us.
How many of us were physically, emotionally, sexually abused...we didn't do such hateful things towards others. I personally don't care if so and so was a JW because the church will always deny such ...it's how anyone could actually harm and do what was done these girls.
It seems, IMO, that if you were/are abused, don't do likewise. I'm thinking this man was just a sick fuck that enjoyed having control over those young girls.
So, like the JW and other religions we could talk about, it's the control.
Personally, I say hang the MF...spare the taxpayer our thousands of dollars with keeping him alive; and the years of appeals...just do to him what he did and stop asking for sympatny. We all made a choice...yes, we often struggle with our decision but I'm not harming soceity.
I have absolutely no sympathy for persons such as this...and yet, I'd bet we will hear/see the "bleeding hearts" expect us for wanting to help save his sorry asssmiley: devil.
Could be, "What Goes Around, Comes Around". Now, is it his time for karma? and he is pleading his case of 'abuse' as an excuse for just being a sick fuck that did what he did because he liked doing what he did....

Linda, I agree with regards to the abuse plea. It is not an excuse, maybe explanation but no excuse.
I have a very close friend since 8th grade that I found out as an adult, he had been horribly abused by his Mother's boyfriends as a younger child. He found his Mother after she committed suicide when he was 11. He then went to live with his father, whom he had never met until he picked him up to take him to his house. His father also picked up his older brother. His father then treated my friend like he was unwanted yet treated his brother different, better. There were stepchildren and a step mother in the home and his father treated them with much more love and respect. My friend had every reason to turn "bad" in the eyes of bleeding hearts. Yet, he chose to be the best he could be, better than both his mother and his father. He is the most genuine, giving, honest, thoughtful and productive person I know. He is continually speaking of suicide due to so many of his own demons inside his memory, yet he will treat everyone with the utmost respect and love. This man ( now 51) also forgave his father and spends time taking care of both his father and step mother. He chooses to live life positively. His father now treats him better and has apologized for how he treated him all his life. He told my friend he didn't even know about him until he was called to come get him after the suicide.
So yes, Linda, the way which you treat others is a choice. A mentally ill person who has no idea of what they are doing is different. This man knew what he was doing, he chose to do these things.
