You can google it for an article on it; Paris Jackson has told her grandmother she does not want to go out door knocking anymore, so she and Prince Michael no longer take part in that. It's been in a lot of news headlines the past few days. Good for her! Hopefully she and her siblings will not become jws, for their sakes.

Yep ... just read about that somewhere else Cathy. There won't be too much fall out for Paris and her brother, as they weren't raised as jdub kids. They've been taken to meetings by their grandmother ...... and in fairness to their grandmother, she's not much of a jdub either. If she is ... she's not worried about 'bringing reproach on Jehovah's name' given she's in court a lot!

You're right Nonnie ... the WBTS has a track record of many court visits and trials. They like to single-handedly accept responsibility for many countries of the world allowing their citizens to have freedom of religion. Tossers.

I had always heard that one of the presidents, I think it was Eisenhower's, mom, was a witness. Has anyone else heard that? I'm reading a biography of Eisenhower and his parents were Menonites. And it wasn't Truman's mom, I already read his bio and she wasn't listed as being a jw. Is it just another jw urban legend that Ike's mom was a witness?

I always heard that story about Eisenhower's mom, too. Maybe she became a witness later but the book only mentions her early religious involvement.
Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

According to this http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/famous-jehovahs-witnesses.php she was. I've heard this most of my life too. I also heard that Dwight denied her a witness funeral because he was opposed. Don't know about that but could understand it if he did.

I haven't got to the point in the book where he becomes president. Maybe if she converted it will be mentioned, but somehow I doubt it. Will let you know if it mentions it.

No matter either way. Understandable that President would run away from a mad cult ensnared mother and cover it up if he could.

I know it doesn't really matter, but it bothers me that the jw brag about it. I remember being told it like it from the woman who studied with me like it was something to brag about.

Blondie, thank you. I read it all, links included. Again, it ties together some of the peculiar medical beliefs my husband has had that I was perplexed about. Now, it makes sense because many o these strange beliefs were evidently accepted and taught as late as in the 60s, and probably coming from his mother who was a witness in the late 40's He is a sitting duck for such type of quackery.

I live in the northeast Metro area of the Twin Cities and the purple one lives down in the southeast corner near Lake Minnetonka. I don't know if he still has that Paisley Park spread, seems that I read he was having financial problems. I came of age in the late 60's so I was living here when he first came on the scene at the downtown Minneapolis clubs. I was still attending when he started coming around and saw him and his entourage at a couple of assemblies. The hypocracy of seeing him arrive in a limo dressed like a pimp as opposed to me getting talked to anytime my hair touched my collar was one of the eye openers that started my journey. smiley: pimp

The JW's favorite celebrity poster child---Brother Purple Prince---was the featured guest on "The Arsenio Hall Show" last night. I only caught pieces of it, as I was flipping back and forth between that show, and rocking out on "Great Performances" on PBS, featuring "The Dukes of September"---Donald Fagan, Boz Skaggs, and Michael McDonald.
Brother Prince trotted out some rather lukewarm new musical selections and spent most of the evening chatting with Arsenio about "back in the day", (when they used to go to after-hours parties together) and interacting with the audience. He didn't take the opportunity to do any "incidental witnessing", as he is sometimes known to do. But something caught my eye...(beyond the fur vest, huge jewelry, prominent Afro, booty-shaking dancers, etc.) Front and center...attached to the microphone, in fact, was the symbol of "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince"---you know, the Egyptian ankh cross-type thingy? He also talked about being on Instagram, Twitter and taking "selfies", and when asked if he was "available", he answered "no." Hmmmm...wonder if somebody is going to get a talking-to in the back room for not "making over the new personality?" Well, for sure he's not letting them cramp his style....rock on Rockstar

I still love his music. Classic. Don't really relate him to JW's due to his awesome grooves.

A JUDGE in Maryland is reported to have declared a mis-trial in a manslaughter case after a Jehovah’s Witness on the jury decided, three days into that proceedings, that her role in the case ran against her religion.
She pulled out of the trial of Kevon Neal, 24, who is accused of causing the death of police officer Adrian Morris. Morris was killed on August 20, 2012, after his cruiser crashed while chasing the defendant, following an attempted break-in at a gas station.
According to John Cedar’s JW Survey blog, the juror sent a note to Circuit Court Judge Michael R Pearson declaring that her religious beliefs did not allow her to:
Sit in judgment of another human being.
According to the Prince George’s State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, the juror told the judge that:
She didn’t have a dog in this fight.
She also said she wasn’t sure whether there was enough evidence, and she didn’t want to be involved. She is also said to have explained that she didn’t alert the court sooner because she needed to:
Do research about her beliefs to discover what her beliefs are.
Alsobrooks said:
I think this was disgraceful on the part of this juror. We expended tremendous resources presenting this case.
The case will now have to be retried, with fresh dates yet to be set. The unnamed juror will also need to appear before the judge at a hearing on February 24, and will be found in contempt of court unless she can prove there was no deliberate attempt to be uncooperative.
In addition to the waste of resources, the mis-trial will also prolong the anguish of Officer Morris’ family, who were in attendance throughout the proceedings.
Commented Cedars:
Three alternative jurors are said to have been released before the proceedings began, and yet the Witness juror’s note suggests she was unable to let any one of these stand in for her. Why? Because she was uncertain at that stage of precisely what her beliefs were.
Only after days of research, presumably in Watchtower publications, was this woman able to figure out her own beliefs, and conclude that these required her to sabotage a manslaughter trial at considerable public expense, causing added trauma to the family of the young man who was killed.
This should tell us everything we need to know about what it means to be a Jehovah’s Witness. TheGoverning Body now micromanages the lives of Witnesses to such an extent that even a call to jury duty prompts individuals such as this woman to do “research” – in other words, to seek the permission of Watchtower as to whether they can get involved or not.
He concluded:
It would come as no surprise to me if certain more weak-minded Witnesses decided to take the easy option by bailing out of jury duty just to be on the safe side, especially if it is absurdly suggested that a juror might ‘share any responsibility for the sentence rendered by judges’.
And so we find that the Governing Body’s constant tinkering not only robs Witnesses of the ability to think for themselves [but] in this case, it also impacts on a grieving family of non-Witnesses who must suffer the anguish of a retrial that should never have been necessary.

It looks like the stupidity and ignorant fear held by Jehovah’s Witnesses is seeping into mainstream awareness.
The rational human automatically knows what he or she believes. One never needs to consult the writings of a religious organisation to find out!
The fact that this time-and-money-wasting individual had to do so, demonstrates the utter dependency JWs have on the governing body of the Watchtower as well as the abject fear of displeasing them. Free-will and conscience are not permitted. Once a JW; then it is required to hand over your liberty and personal thinking to the organisation leaders.
This incident caused by a tragic road death, advertises that JWs lose the freedom to direct their own life.
A tragedy told 7.65 million times over.

So I was talking to my mom tonight. And she was telling me about this new Bible they apparently have. She was so ecstatic that it had three percent less words, haha. But the first thing that came to my mind was Revelation 22: 18, 19. It clearly says "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." But the Watchtower does it and no one bats an eye. I guess they really have perfected their brain washing.

Great point and exactly what came to my mind when I heard about the "new bible".Yep. Actually I'm thinking of politely asking my mom about this when I see her in person in a month. Maybe it'll get the wheels of common sense turning in her head.

Seems religion is once again changing their "Bible" that we should believe in.
Damn, I'm not even ready for that bullshit....but, it does make for interesting research.
What I found funny today, living in a small community, that my one JW sister...ah, to heck with her. I'm too busy for talking about our family dysfunction. After all, she has the Truth.
Chat later and please offer a sense of kindness my way because it has been stressful. Love, LIN

I'd be interested to know what's been changed and how it feeds into the cult mentality. How the GB are using it to control the R&F in order to rake in cash and power for their rock star lifestyle.
Long may the GB suffer!!

Just remember. Neither The Watchtower(TM) nor the elders(TM) nor anyone in the 'truth'(TM) have any authority over you. Once you accept this you're well on your way to living!

My mom sent me a picture with my dad and her at the assembly holding the new bible (it looks ugly to me). And they were so ecstatic.
Why does the bible need to be renewed? There's no logical reason the bible needs to be renewed or revised. And they talk about "Christendom" always changing the bible smh.

I recently saw this on an Australian TV channel and thought I'd share. Apparently there's a film about this person.
