Who are leading the governing body? Who is in charge of them? I don't mean the shareholders. It seems more like they are puppets on a string to some degree. We can all see that Tony Morris is definitely calling some shots. And I guess Geoffrey Jackson when he so decisively said no that that two witness rule would not change. But power has considerably changed from when Fred Franz or Knorr were president.

Goldman Sachs must pulling a lot of strings, maybe a few other faceless groups have been advising them with their property deals and business model , for years they wouldn't budge of how ineffective and expensive their so called free labour was, and look what has happened over the last few years? wholesale lay offs and a massive property sell off, they would have still been stuck in the Knorr'esq time warp had they not been advised to change.

Among themselves, my best guess is that Morris views himself as "the boss" and the others either don't care or just find it easier to let him think so.
Of course, among themselves, they're pretty much only in charge of what next week's definition of "generation" is, or what other flip-flop they'd like to have printed.
For real stuff, stuff that affects the financial health of the organization or policy matters that affect people's lives, that is pretty clearly directed by someone other than the Bumbling Seven. Those guys couldn't run a lemonade stand.
It's likely partly lawyers who call the shots, partly accountants, and partly some outside advisers brought in by the lawyers and/or accountants to set some semblance of a coherent business plan.

They use the GB board of directors to not have the standard cult mo of a charismatic leader. But cults have to have a charismatic leader and the jws do have one, he's just imaginary. Yep Jehovah is the charismatic cult leader. Just like north koreans still worship the supreme leader even though he has died he is used as the head of the cult. So the gb do as they like and pin it on the "leader" the big J.

According to anecdotal evidence, there is a (non-GB) "board of directors" on the corporate side of the WT.
OrphanCrow's research has suggested who some of these men may be.
If anyone really is pulling the GB's strings, you'll probably find them there.

I think they are pulling their own strings to keep the Watchtower Publishing company financially fluent.
Spin over old doctrines if need be, deceive people to how much wealth the WTS has,
and then proclaim its all because of Jehovah's loving guidance .
Wash, rinse and repeat.

Directors[edit]
Current[edit]
◦Don Alden Adams, director since 2000, president since 2000
◦Danny L. Bland, director since 2000
◦William F. Malenfant, director since 2000, vice-president since 2000
◦Robert W. Wallen, director since 2000, vice-president since 2000
◦Philip D. Wilcox, director since 2000
◦John N. Wischuk, director since 2000
These people run the mothership regarding all financials of the business and you can read about the set-up on this link;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watch_Tower_Bible_and_Tract_Society_of_Pennsylvania
Don Adams is one of, if not the longest serving witness out of the lot of them including the GB members who it appears are just seven puppets who front the cult. Don Adams is an interesting read... he seems to have held a very privileged position for a JW for a very long time. His brother is VP on another arm of the org. Apparently he likes to just zoom in and out about 5 times a year to the HQ. I'd love to know the size of his house and other details about his family connections but there's not much info at all online about him.

I would have thought the current board of non anointed members of the WB&T Society of Pennsylvania are very much a front again still for the financiers and legal team that are pulling the strings, Adams is almost 90, he is hardly going to be much of a proactive role in leadership, Malenfant and Wallen were long time members of the writing committee, I dont know much about the other three at all.

Giordano 3 days ago
I have always been opposed to the practice of Shunning especially for simple mistakes, especially when someone questions the 'truth' or the GB. Or elects to speak to a shunned family member or close friend. Or violates the Blood ban.
Even as a practicing JW I was uncomfortable with shunning.
An article caught my attention today on ritual sacrifice.
In much of the pre-modern world, ritual sacrifice was framed as necessary for the good of the society at large — the only way to guarantee, say, a plentiful harvest or success in war.
But the priests and rulers who sanctioned such killings may have had another motive, a new study suggests........... In other words, ritual killings helped keep the powerful in power and everyone else in check................
This finding supports the “social control hypothesis” of human sacrifice, the researchers said. This idea suggests that ritual killings are a way to terrorize people into submission, allowing the religious and political leaders (and in many cultures, those were one and the same) who ordered the killings to consolidate power unopposed............
Watts, a psychologist at the University of Auckland, wrote on his website..........
"People often claim that religion underpins morality,” Watts told Science. But he says his study illustrates how religious rituals like human sacrifice are often designed to serve someone other than the gods: “It shows how religion can be exploited by social elites to their own benefit.”
We have called shunning torture.......... we have called it unloving....a punishment.
Is it also a human sacrifice? After all aDF or DA person is considered living under a death sentence in the JW world........ is this practice which is supposed to come from a loving god nothing more then a barbaric symbolic ritual killing to make sure an organization keeps total control over their followers?
The full article is here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/04/05/the-darker-link-between-ancient-human-sacrifice-and-our-modern-world/?hpid=hp_no-name_morning-mix-story-j%3Ahomepage%2Fstory

This is exactly how JWs use the threat of disfellowshipping. However, you know it's true that the only reason they use disfellowshipping is because it's illegal for them to stone-to-death anyone they deem to be a "sinner".

DOC I remember how earnest they sounded that because of man's law they could no longer stone.......... it was such a loss. What about Jesus flagging a crowd off with 'who can cast the first stone.'
They are out of their collective mind not to mention tone deaf in communicating their ideas.

Posted on another forum.
Rutherford was the originator of the value of martyrs, with his vitriolic letter to Hitler.
The WTS has always kept the value of martyrs in mind.
Today, it is most commonly seen with the Blood deaths, and with the sacrifice of family via shunning.
stuckinarut2
stuckinarut2 2 days ago
The organisation has taken the concept of judging and sunning to a level far beyond anything that the Bible ever implied. Now people are shunned even if they are not formerly disfellowshiped or disassociated, but simply not up to a "spiritual standard" that the society outlines.
Innuendo, slander and gossip create the perfect environment for witnesses to decide who they will accept...
Fisherman
Fisherman 2 days ago
After all a DF or DA person is considered living under a death sentence in the JW world........
I think that was is an old belief as is "spiritual leprosy" used to descibe DF. The JW refer to DF as a condition. But more accurately an unrepentant sinner because that is the only reason why anyone should be df. THe DF form s77 alludes to 777 or forgiving 77x 7.
From an objective position though, there should be some way to deal with lawbreakers in any society even in JW. DF like jail or punishment or a fine is an attempt to force a lawbreaker to comply and is it serves as a warning to deter others, otherwise you would foolishly have everyone doing whatever they wanted hurting themselves an others( based upon the related rules of conduct) without any fear of punishment.

If the WTS ran a small country, I guarantee you that DFed individuals would be imprisoned or deported, and "apostates" would be sentenced to death without possibility of appeal or reprieve.

A list of sins is a futile exercise. Jesus made it clear what is important:
1.Love God
2. Love your neighbor
Actions are merely a manifestation of the heart's motivation.
When I was a JW, I thought the above might be too simplistic. Now that I've given myself the time to ponder this without the background "noise" of JW interpretation, I see that it is simple, not simplistic. Not that it is always easy to live by the law if love, but when practiced it is transcendent. "Whoever does not love has not come to know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8
To the OP--I'd wager there won't be burned buns. "God is love."

EyesOpen: "God is Love". What about one that practice sin, lets say the guy is committing adultery
and have a massive heart attack and die, his last act on this earth a sin, or someone who robbed a bank
got shot in the process and killed. A guy having sex with a sheep and die. The point their last act
before returning to dust a sin..

Cofty-not sure what you are asking.
James- I'm not the one to make the call on the folks you listed above. But I do believe a person who lives their life without a heart full of love departs from Gods love. And I don't believe in hellfire and damnation.
I have more thoughts, but I have a feeling you are not really interested. The OP was addressed to believers, but it seems I am the only non-atheist that wandered in.
Peace out.

Cofty-not sure what you are asking.
I'm questioning your assumption that god is love in view of the evidence from the natural world.
Why did god invent viruses that can wipe out thousands of people in a few weeks?
Why did he invent parasites that eat a child's eye from the inside?
Why is it that almost every animal that has ever lived has died horribly from starvation, predation, cold, parasites or disease?
Why did he design a world that would inevitably kill millions of its inhabitants in natural disasters?

EyesOpen: I'm very interested in your thoughts. I'm not an atheist, not yet. I have had so many
discussions with ministers, my family are full of them they all believe hellfire or damnation.
But when I ask them a question that they can not answer their response, lets not discuss the
bible or they will tell me I will get back with you later.
The bible is never discussed when I'am around my non-JW family members(family gathering), but when they have a question
about the Bible they call me to see what I think.
Do you believe it's a sin to question the Bible?

does anyone have a copy of a letter to the boe in mexico or malawi from the 80's/90's - (it can be in spanish or some other language) from back in those days regarding organizational policy and direction?
of course the cult teaches that it's a sin to be involved in politics and the military.
in mexico - every young man was expected to complete a year of military service.

According to the Bible, GB is committing an unforgivable sin

“the soul that does something deliberately [footnote says “with uplifted hand”] whether he is native or an alien resident, he speaking abusively of jehovah’s word, in that case that soul should be cut off from among his people.” (numbers 15:30).
according to this verse, acting with “high-handedness” and “speaking abusively of jehovah’s word” constitute disfellowshipping offence.
1) “high-handedness” is something that jws themselves silently experience from jb, hence require no witness or proof.

so she had to send them a notary letter in which she wrote that she would attend the judiciary committee only with her attorney.

The two elders threaten my sister again
by opusdei1972 in Watchtower Society / JW.org
» Scandals & Coverups

as i reported here in this forum, some time ago, my sister was constantly harried by two elders so as to be submitted to a judiciary committee for apostasy.
these two elders were constantly hounding her in the street when she walks to go to her job.
so she had to send them a notary letter in which she wrote that she would attend the judiciary committee only with her attorney.

i ran into an older sister who has always been very sweet.. it was a friendly chat...yet she pushed for a reason why my family have been missing from meetings for some time.
the question was deflected, until it just had to be said: "well, there have been some troubling and disturbing issues about the society especially the way things were handled during the royal commission, as well as many other issues".. she quickly cut in and said "but why would you want to know these things?
its best not to research and look at those sort of things - so we don't get upset!".

the majority rarely comment, 2 sisters, vehemently, and often comment.
since in their case, it can not possibly be" teaching in the congregation", is participation in the wt "study"in general an affirmation of faith?

to make mistakes is human, to make mistakes dictated by faith is also human but foolish.
i am pretty sure that as jws we all have made decisions that later on we regretted, in some cases they have been minor and in others they had profound effect in our life; major items were like blood and education related.
i am going to post one decision that was a major disaster for the person involved and if you know of something similar please contribute.. in a spanish speaking country where "machismo" was the norm and it was common for a man to have several mistresses, there was a sister married to a wealthy man and they had four children.

i was 11 years old and i was sitting at my desk in homeroom class when the student on my left, gregory, tapped me on my shoulder.. he held a folded note in his hand and was gesturing for me to take it.
he leaned toward my desk and whispered barely loud enough for me to hear,“pass this note to robbie.” robbie was the girl sitting on my right.. i took the note, unfolded it and read it just as gregory punched my arm.
a shout-whisper came along with the fist, “don’t read it, you moron!”i picked up my pencil and scribbled one word of my own and passed the note to robbie.. i had a crush on robbie and so did gregory bunn.

Our last conversation was him yelling at me because I "loved the gays". Translation, I pointed out that nobody chooses their sexuality. Anyway. I've been shunned since DAing last September, and really for a year or so after visiting my DF'ed brother.
So I get a call this morning from mom that he's in hospice, and one last chance to see him. I made sure that he actually wanted to see me. Anyway, we went and it was nice. My mom told me it would go however I wanted. She ran off other JWs and may have lost a friend over it, just so we could see him. The conversations went well, and I said goodbye and that I loved him for the first time I can remember. Everyone should die with dignity.
Anyway, the real point of this is to point out how absurd shunning is, something I pointed out to my mom. So we can come today, and whenever we want until he passes, and hang out and laugh, and even have hospic workers comment on the love on the room, but once he dies we're effectively dead too. How insanely freaking stupid is that. I made sure to point out that it was hard to get called in from shunning to pitch relief in the bottom of the 9th. It's crazy how they turn relationships on and off at will.

Dub I just want to offer my sincere condolences for what you are going through right now. I'm sorry your father is not doing well.
I am glad that you were at least afforded the opportunity to speak to him and relay your love.
I do hope your mom and family see the ridiculousness behind the whole shunning matter and loosen up on their stance. Maybe by what they have done already by removing all the jw's so you could visit your father is a sign that they could be at least be seeing the stupidity of leaving you out of family matters.
You guys are in my thoughts and prayers during this time. Keep strong man. HUGS!!!

Dear Dub,
I think what you said about being called in to pitch at the bottom of the ninth was so well put. That is just so true isnt it?
With that said, the fact that the hospice caregivers commented on the love in the room says so much about you and your character.
Lots of good thoughts to you as you go through this with your family.

Thanks my fellow aposta-peeps. It's such a messed up situation. My brother has been shunned for 13-15 years? and I let him know what was going on. He'd have to fly in if he was to come, and he's so torn about it all.
I do know one thing. No way would I go to a memorial service at a KH for him. My saying goodbye today was the end of the road. My brother won't go to a JW memorial either. There are certain brothers at my parents' congregation that would leave on stretchers if they were their snarky selves to me, and I couldn't stand to listen to their marketing pitch under the guise of being about my dead dad.
It was nice to be included. I respect my mom wholeheartedly for her handling of this. She tried to forbid brothers from stopping by to make sure that what energy dad had left went to his family. Of course, some brothers came anyway because they have no boundaries. But mom has always been her own person. She'll either wake up through this experience or she'll hold on even tighter to her dubdom.

It sounds like you are definitely going to have a semblance of a relationship with your mom at the end of this. But how sad if she doesn't, and loses two sons to the crazy religion. Maybe you can let her know you didn't disassociate yourself from HER, just the religion, and you will always love her and be there for her and she can reach out to you anytime.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, dubstepped. I was with both my parents when they entered hospice, my mom in 2007 and my dad in 2010. Certain family members decided on their own to start shunning me (to varying degrees) after my mom passed. They didn't interfere with my spending the nights in dad's room (so he'd never be alone) and we had normal conversations about his condition and planning for how to handle things afterward. However, when it came to his memorial service, I was warned not to show up at the gathering afterwards for the "friends" or there would be a scene. I decided to let them wallow in their piety and self-righteousness in peace.
I'm very glad your mom is clearing the path for you to spend some time with your dad. That's very classy of her. I hope you can maintain a close relationship with her after this is over. She's gonna need you, whether she realizes it or not.
Stay strong, my friend.

Saw this while browsing through the Good News brochure:
Is it any wonder people aren't listening to JWs anymore? What an absolutely delusional scene! A 17th century sailor comes into the truth, shaves his beard (apparently beards will still be bad in the new order), and befriends a mandarin speaking Chinese man. LOL This picture sums up the new WT style, nothing is too ridiculous to say or illustrate. They are targeting those with child like intellects ready to believe anything and everything.

The hidden subliminal message is that all people who died before the Great Tribulation can have an opportunity to be resurrected and learn "the truth." So you all better stay in "the truth" in case the Great Tribulation comes in your lifetime, and then you can see those loved ones who died already. This message takes on more and more importance as everyone dies "in this system of things" when the Great Tribulation continues to delay.

So.....
A JW friend at her non JWs father's funeral ( none of her family are JWs) followed her non-JW siblings' heart felt speeches about their love for their Dad, Mother and family life at the funeral by saying that she can't wait to meet her Father in the resurrection, and that she has kept his golf clubs in happy anticipation of seeing him again and playing golf with Dad in the resurrection she went onto give a full on 'witness' - this in the presence of a grieving non JW family and in opposition to the direct desire of her non- JW Father that his funeral should be entirely secular.
I felt she absolutely trespassed and trampled over decency....just my take.
Nothing spiritual going on there - just material cravings.....strangely her 'moment' of glory in terms of giving a witness at her non JW s father funeral somehow failed to grab the attention of 'truth seekers'.
By the way, she isn't a nut case but a very able, high money earning professional.
Believe me....so crazy.

Awfully nice of Jehovah to sew up an 18th century naval uniform for him.
I wonder if they gave him the same rank?
Would be nice of them to promote him to captain or admiral or something before he is forced to shave his beard. Give him one day of happiness before he submits to the drudgery of doing virtually nothing other than conducting "Bible studies" for the next 900 years.

Guess Pirates are kind of hip for kids...there was yet another illustration in a publication showing a child teaching a resurrected pirate somewhere ....darn, can't remember where it was....
See, stuff like this raises my awareness regarding 'selling' a faith, seeking to appeal to a kid's world - suppose a real pirate is more exciting.....they've used this character more than once...someone in the writing department thinks 'Pirates' sell the goods, appeals to kids....and they would be right.
So, even if you don't believe in Christ - you can see how this sure isn't about appealing to the heart re Christ....it's about adventure, The cool fun of meeting a pirate in the 'new system' -
And they sneer at Christendom........
Man, I'm tired.....just glad I don't feel compelled to deliver their Disney hype anymore, they cheapen the glory.

How many witnesses are there in China? How many of those are going to make it through? Of course we all know
everyone who's currently a witness is not going to make it. I mean one month of inactivity say you miss 3 weeks of
meetings in a row, the big A comes during that time you're a goner. Anyway how many people have died in that
country over the years? Hundreds of millions? Over a billion? It's going to be quite a task for the 50,000 or so (if
that...I really don't have any idea but I'm thinking it's not that many) to witness to all those people.
Maybe Jehovah will allow the internet to stay intact in order to reach and teach all the resurrected ones.
Perhaps there will still be electricity and televisions...not 70 inch plasmas of course don't want the "friends" to be
too materialistic but maybe small TV's for the sole purpose of explaining rules and regulations and setting up a
mandatory meeting scheddule

our last conversation was him yelling at me because i "loved the gays".
translation, i pointed out that nobody chooses their sexuality.
i've been shunned since daing last september, and really for a year or so after visiting my df'ed brother.

Information about an ex-elder from Farnborough
by Anonymaus1914 in Jehovah's Witnesses

this is directed to people in the uk, particularly from the south.
i heard of an experience of an elder in farnborough who was well known in the congregation, but faded away after the new generation teaching was introduced.
i never met him, but apparently he had a few bob about him and was high up in some financial institution.

Feeling Jealous of True Believers
by Naoscillator in Jehovah's Witnesses

what a simple life it is to be a true believer.
the cocksureness of people who never for a moment question their core beliefs is something i have come to envy.
it's altogether foreign, but it sure looks nice over on the other side.. why do some people step into the void of uncertainty while others do everything in their power never to even go near it?

Feeling Betrayed?
by stuckinarut2 in Jehovah's Witnesses

this is the way many of us feel no doubt: feeling like we have been betrayed by a faith that has hidden so much from its believers, and covered up some serious past and present teachings and practices.. and yet, we are the ones treated with disdain, contempt or suspicion due to fading from activity!.
simply amazing that we have had to make a conscious decision to stand up for what is right and not be a part of the organisation for genuine and sincere reasons.
and yet they slander us, malign us and make us look like the ones with the problem!.

Last Night I was surrounded by Jehovah's Witnesses . . .

last night was the "body viewing" at the funeral home for the jw whose friendship and influence resulted in my getting baptised in 1963. we weren't just friends.
we had a david & jonathan bromance :) no seriously, we loved each other dearly.. it's only in the last 2 years he shunned me.
before that, he would sneak behind the curtain of stealth, so to speak, and we'd sit for hours each and every week chatting, reminiscing and sometimes arguing about the truth about the "truth.".

my best buddy is gone.
i attended his funeral this morning.. on thursday evening, i went to the body "viewing" and it was "family only.
" i am part of the family (through marriage) so, i was there.. i was welcomed with joy and enthusiasm like a long lost (prodigal) sheep.

the april 4th issue contains a very well-written and insightful article about the jws: "god's work" by kevin canty.
it's fiction, but on the money as far as the experience of an adolescent reconciling the beliefs with his natural biological urges.
boy, could i relate!

i am just venting because my sister has put on facebook that i am no longer "in the truth"!
i have kept a very low profile for years and have silently faded.
many witnesses i have bumped into are very friendly towards me, some from other congregations may not even be aware that i dont go anymore.
