I am just venting because my sister has put on facebook that I am no longer "In The Truth"! I have kept a very low profile for years and have silently faded. Many witnesses I have bumped into are very friendly towards me, some from other congregations may not even be aware that I dont go anymore. Now my sister has done this and I am mad at her. I want to pull her up and refute, especially that I dont believe it to be 'the truth' anymore and give her all the reasons why I believe this but I can't because it will just make things worse.
I just made the comment for her to stop talking about me on facebook and she hasn't yet replied to this.

It really perplexes me why your closest living relative would want to trash talk you (even if you no longer attend). It boggles my mind.
I have a similar situation in my family.
It's one thing to have an acquaintance do this to you but a close relative is a deep wound. It just should not happen.

Post that you were JUST considering coming to a meeting very soon but you felt a bit embarrassed and apprehensive. You had just built up the courage to do it but this has destroyed you forever and you'll never be able to now.

Right on Facebook, I'd ask her for "Two Witnesses" to your supposed lack of faith, then also speak up against her slanderous remarks, which could be cause for "stumbling you out of the Truth."
OMG, I would sooooooo turn this behaviour back on her. I throw out about how she is showing a lack of "Christian love", and not showing a true "fruitage of the spirit."
In short, I would make her look like the total ASS that she so obviously IS.
What a C*nt!

I would message again and ask her to delete her comment as its not her place to tell people about your personal life. The same thing happened to me, my sister announced on FB that I'd Disasociated (someone else showed me as of course she'd unfriended me the day it was announced) I would love to have challenged her but couldn't as I didn't want to make life difficult for the mutual friend who told me. It feels like a real betrayal and almost like it's being done so that they can get all the sympathy.....very sad. I hope you resolve this xx

Not only that, but apparently it is to a transgender female.
New light WT article regarding "born that way" transgenders as a "conscience matter" to be released in the August 15 WT.
More details here.

Hi Sir
I couldn't believe what I was reading in your OP but could see from the link it must be genuine. Are you able to reveal more about your source? Must be a highup insider surely to know so much in advance?

Sanderson would have to desire intimacy with another human being before he could be wed. This would mean he'd have to break it off with his hand, or possibly TOMO III's hand. So sad.

In my book, I Wept by the Rivers of Babylon, I described the process of having a friend, Johnny Santa Cruz, use our friendship as a platform for converting me to a Jehovah's Witness.
That friendship cost me decades of my life in bondage to a cult.
The friendship was real and Johnny and I bonded for life. But, the religion eventually turned him into a stone silence toward me--his oldest friend.
Now he is dead and the imaginary reunion and meeting of the minds is no longer a possibility.
This makes his passing a double tragedy.
His memories were my memories. By dying he has extinguished part of my life's verifications. The bond we could have shared into our retirement years could have strengthened. Instead, they dissolved--aborted by cult pressure.
I doubt I can get a family invitation to his funeral. It would certainly be disrespectful to attend without it. So, even in a final good-bye--I am shut out of both life and death.
++++++++++++++++++

Johnny married when he was 20 and his wife was 16. He was rescuing her from her father. The dad was molesting his 2 daughters, you see, but the Brothers at the Kingdom Hall had advised the JW mother that Divorce was not the answer.
I was at the wedding at the Justice of the Peace in a small Texas town. Johnny's sister, Judy, pretended to be the Mother granting permission.

The marriage has lasted all these years, 1967 to 2016. He was very proud of that. His wife never graduated from High School, she dropped out. She never worked a paying job in her entire life. All her friends were JW's. It was the only life she ever knew and the only one imaginable.
________
Johnny and I were friends from the age of 12. All of our early memories were the SAME memory.
We called each other "Best best Buddy, lifelong pal." But that "lifelong" part was a dream.
Johnny would always prod me with JW-related statements, provoking discussion about (presumably) the Bible.
In my family, we were not religious people nor did we attend a church. I had respect--even reverence--but no emotional attachments to God or the good book. I was sort of a Nerdy intellectual kind of kid. So, we had lots of arguments--and I couldn't win those arguments even though I was using rational thinking and logic. Why?
I didn't realize at that time, we were living in two different worlds entirely! A fancy word covers the situation: "Non-overlapping magisteria."
The real world and the world of religious beliefs are different areas of inquiry, fact vs. values, so there is a difference between the "nets" over which they have "a legitimate magisterium or domain of teaching authority," and the two domains do not overlap.

So, here it is folks--my life was about to take a sharp left turn simply because I needed to be on EQUAL footing with Johnny and the only way I could think of to do that was to LEARN his magisterium and master it.
I would compare this to having a friend who is hooked on addictive drugs saying, "Just try it and see if you like it."
One snort, one injection, one high was all it took and the next 2o years would be a roller coaster ride through hell.
_______________
Johnny is dead. He won't be joining his devout parents in Paradise in all likelihood. You see, he knew how so much of Jehovah's Witness teachings had unraveled not standing the test of time. He was very angry when the Awake! magazine dropped the "generations" blurb which had been his bellwether to Armageddon.
He saw his belief system dismantled and reassembled like a Legos project.

He was highly intelligent. But he was a profoundly loyal advocated, too.
The arguments he and I shared never budged him off center--but they certainly rattled him to the core.

Today I want to salute his long marriage and his unshakeable Faith.
In the same breath, I want to shout to the world, "You were and always will be my friend--you stupid fool!"

Johnny Santa Cruz--1947 to 2016 Rest in Peace my best, best Buddy. I wish you had remained a lifelong pal.
I love you. I'm sorry you weren't allowed to love me back.

Terry,
I read this sad story on your original post but I had no time to express my deepest sympathies to you. The saddest part though is that it seems the friendship was only one way - you towards him -at least for the last several years. For him the cult was more powerful than his friendship towards you. When you leave the cult you often get to experience for the first time what real, non-conditional friendship is. But while in the cult, this is impossible. After 50+ years I started reconnecting with family members and old friends who have greeted me with open arms, without resentment. I know you would have been there for him because that's what real friends do.

Hello Guys ! Hello Girls !

I ve been reading you all many times , and from many years ....
I am sure my english is getting better and better because of you ! Thanks !

i am from France, no sorry , from "small Brittany " ...so what ? you cant find it on the map !! its not my fault ..

Anyway ...
born in "da troof" 37 years ago .... went in the "swimming pool" at 16 ...( my mother pushed me ...what an excuse ....and what a fool i was ....) ( i wanted to have long hair and play music but ....i was going door to door every saturdays..." the end is clooose ....soooo close"
maybe i was afraid ??)
i was , little mosquito ... )

Left for good and for EVER i was 20 y o .( 1999 )
I awoke on my own at the time. without "internet" or anything else . just thought to myself " prefer to be dead now, than to live" forever" with "them" and their "pet lion" playing ball on Billions dead bodies) ( btw still think exactly the same 17 years laters ...)

My mother at the time was as you say a " die hard" ( and she is still ...even more ...yes ...its possible !!) and my father was an elder . but a " edge elder"at the end i guess .and he left for good 2 years after me . i showed him the way !! )

Of course they separated after , ( why do i say " of course " ? ...)
One year After my mother married a young "brother", 22 years younger . still with .( good choice . he is going to pay for her retirement !!

)Afterwards my father started to drink , take drugs and ....no i am joking ....he is ok he works hard , rides horses ( his owns ) and have a few girlfriends ....he is ok
And me here...

Writing my boring story ....
The Jw stuff still stick me like a glue under my shoes . i am 37 today .

My father told me not far ago " turn the page , it was a mistake we did "
But .... THATS ALL !!
Crazy fu.....g Bo....ks I ve spend my youth waiting for "mass destruction" !!
And now i just need to " turn the f....ing page !! "
You think its possible ??
Me , i was and i am still quite lucky ...Everything i wanted, i got it .( with my own money , no help whatsoever from outside )

I travelled ,sailed away, crossed Atlantic on wonderfull boats , met a lot of people , learned to speak English , made quite good money, and above all met this girl .....

But ,
there is always a " but "
I drink .
A lot .

( to drink drunk drunken )

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I have met a few psychiatrist to try .
Try to be happy without a " bottle of ...Chateaux Margault "

Try to enjoy
Try to be ME .
Try speack
Try to love water FOREVER

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I still love my parents .of course .i am not in a cult !!!.maybe i am a normal man ?

Even my mother i ve seen 2 times in 10 years ( one time in a funeral , and one time by "mistake" in the street ... she still wait for a mass destruction i guess ? )
Her eyes werent happy for sure , i know, she is my mother .
Putain !! its killing me

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Yesterday born, tomorrow dead .
I am just an Absolute beginner and i love you guys !
able to play with your your own death and mistakes ...
Your are the real ones . My soul-mates from the other side of the Atlantic ?

Take care guys ! She is falling !!

Your english communication is great! Like you, I was 'born in' the JW. It is hard to be 'cast out' at 20, and I understand. You are still young, though, and have the time to create a new life for yourself.
Are you in Europe, or another part of the world? Let us know; we have members worldwide, and there will be suggestions and ways that others will know, that can help you to have a better life. xo tal

Absolutesbegginer.......... your words !
"My father told me not far ago " turn the page , it was a mistake we did "
I made that mistake also ... most on here did.
The spine of that book that holds the page that we turn ... is mind numbingly powerful.
The deceit & outright lies almost killed us.
The page is turned but the melody lingers on.
Your drink & my holding everyone at arms length, is part of that melody.
I think I am just going to burn the damn book!
Hope we hear more from you.

I'm afraid that pretending or blocking out our time as a JW is impossible.
Try not to beat yourself up over the mental abuse you were subjected to.
It hurts to feel that we were not able to protect ourselves from an organization that promised us so much, but turned out to be in it for the money. Ouch!

Welcome to the forum and feel free to vent openly.

This is what helps me...
As a born in I could have been born into Scientology, the Moonies, Mormon, Jim Jones, the Family etc. Each having some major issues in my opinion.
I try to look at the positive things I learned from being a jw. I was taught to love people which carried over nicely when I faded to accepting all people. I was taught to put others first which transitioned nicely into trying to be kind and not always react. I was taught to turn away from wrath which helps me today not to be too angry with family, friends or my circumstances. There are more but I think you get the jest of how I look at being raised a jw and how I cope today.

If your father was converted rather than born in, that could explain why he thinks you should just shake off the "mistake."
It's not so easy when you've never known anything else.

Welcome. Thought your story was written very well. Wish I knew French as well as you know English.
I won't ever forget my life as a witness. I can only speak for myself, but my witness life wasn't all bad. I had lots of friends and went to lots of social events. Now I'm free and know TTATT but I am also much more alone. I will never go back to all the lies but I won't forget the good times either.

Are there current Elders schools happening around the country or are they at the point of requiring elders to go back to Mecca (aka New York)?
And a more specific question: is it possible there is a school this next week in the Seattle area?
(just curious, it has to do with one of my in laws who's an elder out there)
Thanks

Possibly. An elder in our cong is at school all week this week. Don't know where though. Don't care, either. Yes, in the Seattle area.

1.You are delusional. Meaning that you believe everything that the WT says 100% without questioning it all. You believe there is no other source of truth or valid view points. Truth is absolute and is provided by the WTBS. These delusions make you content because you know in your heart the reward of everlasting life is coming...soon.
2.You have many companions. Notice how I said companions and not friends? That's because these spiritual friends know that they would have to dump you at a moments notice if you had an original thought. That's okay though because at least you have gatherings to go to and people to talk to about superficial things.
3.You don have any personal ambitions. Giving up a huge chunk of your time to organizational activities isn't really a big deal because you have no personal ambitions or desires anyway. Get a better job? No thanks, too much stress. Hobbies? That's a waste of time. Reading? Only the WT for me!

4. You are insecure and need to be reassured that you are doing the right thing on a frequent basis.
When I was in and attending a meeting, I took to heart when we were told from the platform: You are in the best place right now. There is no place, at this time, where you could be, that would put you in a better position should Armageddon fall upon the world at that very moment.
It felt comforting to believe I was in the right crowd.

i am just venting because my sister has put on facebook that i am no longer "in the truth"!

i have kept a very low profile for years and have silently faded.

many witnesses i have bumped into are very friendly towards me, some from other congregations may not even be aware that i dont go anymore.

in my book, i wept by the rivers of babylon, i described the process of having a friend, johnny santa cruz, use our friendship as a platform for converting me to a jehovah's witness.. that friendship cost me decades of my life in bondage to a cult.. the friendship was real and johnny and i bonded for life.

but, the religion eventually turned him into a stone silence toward me--his oldest friend.

now he is dead and the imaginary reunion and meeting of the minds is no longer a possibility.. this makes his passing a double tragedy.. his memories were my memories.

are there current elders schools happening around the country or are they at the point of requiring elders to go back to mecca (aka new york)?.

and a more specific question: is it possible there is a school this next week in the seattle area?

(just curious, it has to do with one of my in laws who's an elder out there).

There was a new video shown at the meeting this week not available to the rank and file, about a cart witnessing campaign. Usually these things are leaked well ahead of time, was this an exception?

Do you mean the one about Sail Amsterdam?

local needs= give more money 😡

Island Man
Island Man 9 hours ago

What I want to know is, why do they continue to call those parts "Local Needs". If they know months in advance that they intend to show organization propaganda in specific slots in specific months, then shouldn't the OCLAM workbook part for that slot be named something other than "Local Needs"?
It just goes to show that WT doesn't really care about the local congregations' local needs. They wouldn't sacrifice another WT-controlled meeting slot to show their propaganda, but they'll steal the one meeting segment that elders have the most freedom to tailor based on the needs of the local congregation.

Although it is titled as "Britain Branch Report" it's not much of a report. It only goes for just over 6 minutes and half of it is some 'wild talk' about Romeo and Juliette, I say wild talk because it has nothing to do with the British Branch and if there was any point to it, it's lost on me.

Anyway, about the only thing said that is of any importance was this (at the 2.20 mark) -

"The Governing Body, very kindly, have given us permission to continue construction once we have reviewed the scope of the building so we hope to be underway very soon"

He was talking about the Chelmsford project and explained the need for it was because they are currently spread out over a 10km area.
They started a project and are now very grateful that the GB have given them permission to continue with it but only after having to revise the whole project to reduce the scope of it.

They investigate 300 sites, a local council approaches them to present a derelict, "heavily contaminated" site (quote from their own public consultation document) and it's God doing it? Jehovah is obviously the God of toxic waste disposal judging from Chelmsford and Warwick (USA) being his preferred options then.

I'm not sure if the "build, build, build - we're going places" of this time last year followed by everything coming to a screeching halt was pure incompetence or a crafty master plan.
It certainly got donations to the fore and "justified" begging for kingdom hall project savings funds. And they can still fund a tiny Chelmsford for 100 instead of 1000 people by the money made from selling the London properties and moving printing to Selters.
Then the surplus from that and the KH's gets sent to New York to keep it away from UK investigations.
...
If it is a crafty master plan then they've done it on the backs of gullible and trusting bethelites and followers ... if it's incompetence followed by opportunism then the result is the same but with less bad motive.
Ignore me; just musing.

dont know this Peter Bell chap, any reports on him? the reality when they met with the local government officials in Chelmsford was that they couldn't wait to offload that land to the WTS quick enough, pointless dishonest spin.

I had to check that out TheOldHippie, it felt like half the video as the story was way more riveting than any of the other stuff.
This Romeo (alias Luigi) is a constant feature working in the underground, performing his duties in the early morning. In fact he is so popular that he has many route (spelling??) calls that collect their magazines. One young lady, who he was attempting to become more familiar with was so impressed by him that she had the florist deliver a bunch of flowers to him, attached with a very romantic note.
I can't wait for the next installment on that story.

JB - Peter Bell. Was a Ron Drage protege and the most ambitious bloke I know. He came from Yarmouth,is married to Astrid and has been managing the London press room for years. He thinks of himself as a printing executive and behaves like a big shot business man. He is one of the trustees of the in London.
The youthful humour demonstrated in the Romeo, Juliet story seems to be wearing a bit thin now. The man looks almost skeletal. He is in his sixties now. I wonder how long he will survive in the modern youthful organisation.

SF, Bell must have been one of those names that passed me by, Gooch,Ellis,Andrews,Parkin,Drage were the UK Bethel bigwigs I recall when I was a jw in the early 1990's. The Romeo (Luigi) story was piss poor though and if you were in attendance you would have nervously laughed out of embarrassment than actual appreciation of the joke, not that the event ever happened at all, another lie or exaggeration.

Now, calls for better organization, or just organization PERIOD, have often been brought up on this site, by those whose lives have been affected by this cult. The most WIDELY accepted strategy so far, seems to be that of simply NOT donating at your local halls, or assemblies. Understandably, it's a good 'covert' way of fighting back, without blowing one's cover. But, it needs some teeth.
Consider the 'secret' CO guide that has just been made available to all. Just reading through all shows what a callous, paranoid, finger-pointing, back-stabbing cults this is. Also, look at the whole 'Be Loyal or Be Shunned' theme of the upcoming conventions. They're running scared. It's time to crank up the pressure. Take the fight to THEM!
It might sound trivial, but the cumulative effect of propaganda can be immense. It's helped win wars. It's helped sports teams dominate. It's helped the Watchtower Society turn into a huge cult machine. But like any machine, you take out some of the bearings, and the whole thing breaks apart.
Just order the sticker packet. Start putting them on: donation boxes, bathroom mirrors, inside bathroom stalls, the elder's car bumper...(the mean, bossy elder, at least), the elderette's book bag, when she's not looking. Put 'em anywhere else you can, without being caught, of course.
Please return to this thread in the near future to report your sticker 'placements.' That's the only way we'll know if anyone's on board.
It will be called: "OPERATION VAST"
Now, get busy. We're all counting on you.

Funny you mention it. I actually did a search for JWfacts, or JWfacts.com stickers and found nothing. However, I just did a little more digging, and found this:
http://www.zazzle.com/sell/designers/tutorials/makeproducts
It allows you to upload your design, and they will turn it into a hat, sticker, t-shirt, ect.
I agree that it might cause some, perhaps many, to check out the website out of curiosity.
Whether it's JW Facts stickers, or VAA, or ARC, or the Angus Stewart Fan Club, the JWs will always feel persecuted. That's kinda the idea. Persecuted, yes. But by whom? When little decals like these start popping up inside Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, Convention Centers, or on elders car bumpers, and elderettes book-bags, they'll have no choice but to look inside. No more blaming the outside world, or the media, or the U.N.
They're ALREADY cranking up the pressure on members to snitch on one another, as evidenced by the CO guidelines leak, and their 'secret' snitch form. Them there's the convention theme: "Remain Loyal (or else)!" This indicates more suspicion among members, more kangaroo courts and more disfellowshipping. Someone on a different thread mentioned that there eventually won't be anyone left, but the really brain-dead 'reptiles.' I just see these stickers as a means to help accelerate the inevitable: a rotting from the inside out, as more and more JWs turn on each other. Specifically, it would probably instigated by the COs and elders ("we gotta check on brother Jones, he missed the last two meetings"), Maybe that's too harsh for some. But, you might as well get this the f--- over with.
I'll submit my JWfacts logo to Zazzle.com later today, and will post on a new thread.

Imagine my surprise when I found a copy of this book at a charity (goodwill) stand. I brought it.
I plan to sell it and hope it goes to an apostate™not a JW completist.

I wonder how much it would be worth in UK money?
I've looked inside it, it looks like it was written by an idiot.

So we have this ridiculous teaching of an overlapping generation, something the bible clearly does not teach. If this has been mentioned before I apologize.
But it's interesting that at the start of Matthew we go through the genealogy of Jesus. It's pretty clear and well laid out for us to read and we get to see how many generations we go through. It states this at verse 17 and uses the word γενεαὶ -geneai for generations. Yet when we get to Matthew 24:34 we have Γενεὰ - Genea. So for me it's very clear what the writer of Matthew meant by a generation, because he went through all those generations at the very start. I'm someone who has faded for the past 10 years. No way can I get my head around this JW generation teaching.

I'm with you bro! Every sane, logical, reasonable person on earth knows that a human generation covers a relatively short period of time.
It's the same way I have always felt about the 144,000 being shoved down our throats as a literal number when every other number in revelation is symbolic. lol
Bullsh*t comes in many flavors!
just saying!

Its obvious that the WTS had to screw around with " This Generation " doctrine based from the fact and realization of the organization's long standing adherence to 1914, so in other words a lie to support another lie is what the WTS has done.
The WTS's doctrines were inherently corrupt because they were devised mostly to support the proliferation of the literature the WTS published, that's an indefensible assertion.
In doing so the WTS and its leaders cultivated power and money by susceptible believers and that is why the staid lies and corruption will continue on ........until ???

Not alot of love or respect for Jesus, his apostles or HIS church from the JWs.
Did he build His church on sand or have fools in charge that couldn't get out of their own way?

JWs don't pay much attention to the guy.

His job seems to be to pretty much to sit on a throne and do nothing while ruling a kingdom which does nothing.
He's also a part-time sort of intergalactic telephone-prayer operator - your prayer only "counts" if you mumble "in Jesus name, amen" at the end.
JWs enjoy talking about his 3-1/2 year "earthly ministry", but only insofar as he set a "good example" for JWs by being a "full time servant".

Giordano
Giordano an hour ago

I always found it interesting that the Society does not remind everyone that he didn't start his Ministry until he was baptized when he was 30 years old. The WT Society of course prefers to lock in that deal these days with children or at least young teens.
One reason Jesus is usually ignored is that the WTBTS has this irritating habit of quoting scripture from the Old Testament a book written for Jews by Jews. In doing so the WT has followed all other fundamental Christian religions in elevating the OT as being on par with the New Testament. That the Hebrew scriptures........ it's commands and observations........ are as binding as anything written in the Gospels and the writings of Paul and others in the NT.
While certain traditional Hebrew codes of conduct were featured by Jesus........ It was Paul who established the code of conduct that was necessary to fashion a new belief and one that elevated Jesus as divine.
The Society can not milk the ministry of Jesus and his inconvenient 'truths' so he has not been as respected or elevated into a position of final authority in all matters.
The WTBTS started and remained a publishing house until 1931 when it decided to become an official religion. By that time it had mastered the ability to build any argument about anything by cherry picking scriptures much of which had little to do with Jesus. And many that were ripped out of context.
Many of the policies and beliefs of the JW's were never mentioned by Jesus.

when i was a telecom engineer there was a particular transistor that we would routinely change on any circuit board we were working on.

it suffered from a condition known as thermal runaway.

a drop in resistance across the collector-base junction caused a rise in current that generated heat which reduces resistance in semiconductors which increases the current even more, creating more heat and so on until the transistor self-destructed.. (for geeks - this is why field-effect transistors became the choice for amps).

Hi all.
So I got a txt today from a very proud mum claiming that, the JW cart produced 300 book and magazine placements. Mostly from foreign speakers.
The Shard is the tallest building in the UK. This is where the cart was placed.
Not a bad day they had really. It was over 2 hrs. So that's 150 an hour. Every time I've always seen the cart out and about a city or town nobody has been to it. But if this is true, then not bad today.

jookbeard 21 hours ago
its incredibly busy there, very close to London Bridge Station,Guys Hospital and on Borough High Street, really one of the busiest parts of London, interesting to see how many get read then dumped, if she was to monitor the cart in my town on a high street and railway line she might see a different scenario, still sceptical though can a cart even hold a 100 rags? they are rather prone to exaggeration, twisting and outright lies as we know.

The problem with these reports is that it is reported as if distribution is a success by itself. However, the success of an advertising campaign is never measured by the number of flyers that were distributed. Rather, it is measured on the rate of response from these.
Hence, a success report should read: We have distributed 300 publications. From these, 10 have reported to have read the book. 4 reported that it had a positive influence for them and 2 have started bible studies.
If all the 300 recipients simply read the first 2 pages and threw the publications away, than, that is not success, it is simply a loss of resources.

So it was a video played at the KH. It showed carts outside The Shard and she says it was around 200 or 300 in two hours, several carts.
She also said there were 500 out in Amsterdam with the carts and thousands were being placed, even one woman stopping a tram to get a mag or book. Brothers having to go back and get more literature.
Hard to know what to believe, but she said from that video you can see how the carts are really being utilized now. But I've seen them around my city and in towns while visiting, and seen nobody taking them.

I have been watching the cart at a local flee market/outlet shops but I have yet to see anyone take literature or speak to the JWs standing meters away from the cart. It was the same in downtown Toronto last summer where they stood in the busy financial area. Unless they put the literature in the hands of the passers-by I can't see how that experience is possible.

One of the key cart spots in London was at Oxford Circus crossroads until about six months ago. The area now has loud pop music blaring out making it impossible for JWs to operate there.
I think this is a good idea!--- which should be installed at each of the other busy JW sites in the city.

It just seems a big coincidence that when the Watchtower camera's are present they have two super days. One in London and one in Amsterdam.
Would love to hear from any brothers or sisters that do the cart in popular city areas. Have you ever experienced a frenzy like was seen on this video at the meeting?
I mean it wouldn't really thrill a congregation to see what I've seen and that's very little action around the carts. It may have been that they were lucky to have such busy days, but I sense something wrong with this. If I had seen something like this in my city or anywhere for that matter then I would believe. But I've never known these carts to be productive. Are they?

Our congregation had a group from a metropolitan area come for a week to help with our seldom worked territory. They dressed like city-slickers and put stacks of 10 older magazines in a ziplock bag to leave at not-at-homes.
I'll bet they had some glorious stories to tell back in the big city! All of the magazines placed! The return visits handed over to the Service Overseer! The "simple country folk" they met!

The Amsterdam video was shown as local needs. It stated that 700 people manned carts during an event called "Sail Amsterdam". This is a massive event where yachts, boats under sail and tall ships gather. It is a spectacular event attended by hundreds of thousands of spectators. The result: 6000 pieces of literature distributed, less than 10 each. I person was reported to have asked for a study.
In my view that result is poor. It served more as a cart, JW. Urrgh propaganda piece than any thing else. If I was evaluating the success I would say with that massive footfall the result was pathetic. The report says that 1 person asked for a study, it did not say even that a study had been started. The event went on for 4 days! Pitiful.

No, as productive as walking from one end of a territory to another finding a NH at the first spot and a NH at the last spot, or driving to rural territory and driving around for hours not finding a soul at home, I sense you know that though. You know it takes almost 7000 hours to convert a jw from the D2D ?

@Slidin
I was present at the midweek meeting with the Amsterdam video and I thought that they said several Bible Studies were started. Not sure now.
But I thought: What is "several"? Why use the word at all? I would use "several" if say I handed out between about 4 and 8 tracts but didn't make a note of the number. Any more and I would have guessed at about 10 or a dozen.
So I believe they said "several" because the number was pitifully low for a four day event with two million visitors (if I heard that correctly). Let's give them the benefit of the lie and imagine they had eight start a study from these dozens of carts.
What sort of study would it be? A doorstep study of which half (4) would fizzle in two visits and maybe one would last more than a month?
It is truly pathetic.

In their heyday they distributed tens of millions of pieces of literature a year, and only had a couple of hundred thousand baptisms, half of which are probably children born into the religion. 300 magazines is unlikely to have any result.
I actually think that the carts will result in net negative growth. Few will join the religion from seeing a cart, but the JWs there become sitting ducks for people to approach them with well thought out information about the religion to make them think.

With apologies to your mother but I'm struggling to believe this,

I work very near the two carts they have there. One cart is near the Tooley Street entrance to London Bridge station and the other cart is near the Shard.
Firstly - the JW's behaviour. I see them:
◦Chatting with each other
◦Staring into space
◦Flicking through Apps on their Smartphone

But I never, ever, see them talking to people or people picking up literature. It never happens. I've seen other JW's talking to them (maybe at handover points in the day) but no normal members of the public at other times,

I keep meaning to counter witness to a younger one sometime, but I'm generally walking though from one of our offices to another.
Secondly - why would foreign speakers.pick up English based publications? Surely they'd want it in their own language?
So for those reasons I'm struggling with 300 placements in 2 hours.

I've seen numerous carts in various locations, even in different countries. And I've quizzed JWs who manned the cart in locations I didn't see.

I've never seen or heard of a reaction other than indifference or a surly frown. Certainly I've never seen anyone even close to taking any "literature". I've heard of maybe a handful of books being taken.

300 in 2 hours? Something sounds fishy with this report.

jookbeard
jookbeard 7 hours ago

some of the cobblers you hear from them or passed on, one example a few months back was about a jw who manned a cart at a underground station in London and she claimed the reason she placed so many of the rags was because the general public LOVE to read the magazines ! she clearly either doesn't travel on the network or is completely in some sort of bubble because the vast percentage of commuters are plugged into to their headsets watching/listening to their smartphones/tablets, WiFi is now live on the underground, even the free newspapers struggle to get taken these days

Average publisher increase from last year to this in Uk was 185 lol

As a London commuter (go past the Shard twice a day as it happens) I really struggle with this 300 in 2 hours. Given that all our reports basically speak to the same thing - carts in busy areas but little to zero actual engagement - its improbable.
I also used to see the carts outside Charing Cross Station at peak times, but these have disappeared in the last few months. The JW's there were competing with the following:
City AM
Time Out
Gym Membership freebies
Free product trial offers - meal replacement bars etc
The homeless guy selling Big Issue
The homeless guy who has wet himself (again)
Actual real charities - Breast Cancer day etc...
I wouldn't be surprised if Westminster Council told the JW's to sling their hook as it was becoming a road traffic safety issue with thousands of commuters fighting their way through all the 'offers' to cross one of the busiest roads in central London.

Great to hear from people who walk past these carts. The big question is then, if on a normal day the carts aren't so busy. Why when Watchtower cameras are present it's like a frenzy?

Did they go many times and see the unproductive days, or were they extremely lucky that they were there when the fish were biting. Or what else, they staged it all hahaha to get that perfect piece for the camera? Got brothers and sisters to take literature, pay people to show how busy and amazing these carts are. I'm struggling to understand why on any normal day they are quiet, but when the JW camera crew are in town, these carts cant keep up with demand.

I'd like to see this so called frenzy, any pics of it?

If it is right by a tourist attraction people may have picked up literature thinking there was some connection. However thy won't necessarily have read it or even kept it but tossed it at the earliest opportunity. It would be interesting to check the local bins to see if any were thrown away.

pleaseresearch
pleaseresearch 2 hours ago

It was a video that was viewed by many congregations here in the UK, maybe other counties too I'm not sure.
I believe it was part of the special needs section of the meeting.

ttdtt
ttdtt 2 hours ago

Again I call BS on this. 300 in mostly foreign languages?
So what languages?
How many different languages did they carry? Its general practice for the cart to be ALL 1 language as the headboard is in 1 language.
Did they keep switching the head board with different languages so those people would know what it said?
If they did give away 300 in different languages - they would need a massive stock of books in the "truck I guess" to keep filling up the cart that can only hold a few.
TOTAL BS

JW seek treatment for mental breakdown.
He tells the physician, my non-JW family tell me I'm nuts because I preach we are the only true religion (JWs).
The doctor said that is strange because I have two patients that checked in yesterday and they
each said they belong to the only true religions. One is a Mormon and the other a Muslim.
So the Doctor thought I will lock all three up in the same room for the night and see what
will happen with their delusion.
The next morning the Dr. speak with the JW, and the JW tells the doctor "Dr I'm not delusional anymore".
The doctor ask, how did you come to that conclusion?
Your punchline........
My punchline....After talking with those evil folks last night Jehovah came to me last night and he told me
" you are one of 144000 and I will speak to you personally, and trust me you are in the true religion".

so we have this ridiculous teaching of an overlapping generation, something the bible clearly does not teach.

but it's interesting that at the start of matthew we go through the genealogy of jesus.

the governing body and its watchtower society claims that in 1919 it was appointed by jehovah god and jesus christ to represent all of their earthly kingdom interests, to be their unique voice and sole representative towards all people on earth.

the watchtower’s authority lives or dies with that claim..

the society’s critical date of 1919 is calculated from the dates of events in the 6th century bce.

there are some people that do in fact want to die.

There was no Adam.
We evolved from non-human ancestors over millions of years...
On the other hand we are the winners in a competition for life. The sperm that carried half of our DNA was one of millions.

Looking at if from the standpoint of how DNA is transmitted from man to woman and the practically infinite possible combinations of DNA, I'd say that any small change (even position during the act) would significantly decrease the likelihood of your existence. So, I'd say it would be highly improbable that the same person would exist if any predecessor made even the slightest change in his daily activities.
You should watch "About Time". It's about a time traveler and it explores this idea a bit.

In case that story was correct, of course we wouldn't live but others would instead of us. And in case Adam and Eve would not sin, surely one of their offspring would. So the idea that the paradise was going to last was out of the question anyway (from a witness viewpoint).

Darkknight757
Darkknight757 17 hours ago

Adam and Eve is just a story made up by someone to explain life as we know it.
To believe in it would be the same as belief in the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause. There is overwhelming proof that humans have been on earth much longer than a measly 6000 or so years AND that we evolved from a different life form.

Correct blondie! The headstone is what is shown in the first part of the video. Then they show the Pyramid monument, which is nearby.

So since the last time I posted regarding my fade, you all learned that I was having some health issues. That came along just right to quit going to meeting without raising much suspicion. Somehow everyone at the hall seemed ready to tell my wife they missed me but attended the memorial and no one bothered to take the initiative to back those words with actions.
I guess that having seen me at the memorial they at least felt bad because last night I got a call from one of the elders telling me they want to come today and visit with me. Despite me not given them any reasons they shot a warning, I guess to put me at ease, saying that there is nothing to worry about and they just want to say hi and see how I am doing...
Many times we have heard that we should not fear the elders and that being visited by them should not be taken as a sign of something wrong. Why the need for the warning?
Anyway, the elder in question is a very kind, humble and seemingly honest person. He has had two minor strokes in the recent past and sometimes I wonder (he says it has been stress related) if he is not half awake already but I have no other evidence to go by. I don't know is who else is coming along with him. I told him I would confirm if I am available or not so I still have that option available to me if I don't feel in the mood to meet with them.

Why the need for the warning?
Because if its known by these elders that your baptized, they are many times sniffing around to see if your doing anything they can DFed you for.

They may come by as a encouraging agenda for you to attend meetings etc. but many times that's a pretentious ploy toward other background involving factors ..
JWS elders are power tripping scrutinizing assholes who play their power roles indiscriminately when they see fit.

If after the query to your absence from not attending meetings is due to some doctrinal questioning , best to expect them to go after you with JC meeting to sack your ass, which essentially supports that self perception of power.
Thats why a heads up warning is warranted.

I agree with Finkelstein. I missed the memorial and was texted that they forgot to tell me about the date and time. I already knew the information. Well stupid me met with them on the weekend to see how I was doing. It's been kind of rough for me, but I'm starting to get thick skinned about things. Anyways, one Elder was genuine showing concern, but the other was starting to toe the company line, getting a little rougher about things. I left more disillusioned and pissed that I met with them. Guess I was hoping for understanding, but nope, nothing. It's taking me a few days to shake off that visit. My suggestion, don't allow the visit. It's not concern, but to see where you are standing in relation to them. It's like the Miranda rights, anything you say can and will be used against you in their court of law. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!

Ask for just one of them to visit you, not two.
Ask them to explain the 'overlapping generation' change using just the bible, as, 'you are confused'.
That may be the last time they call you...

Turn any shepherding call with more than one elder down!
Tell the kind elder you'd rather meet up with him for a coffee somewhere and then just chit chat with him and avoid any theo-cultic-talk, to any question he might ask in this regards just say "hum, I dunno, I guess I'll have to think about that" and "hum, I guess I'll have to think about that too" and "I guess that's another one to think about".
To any theocratese expressions from him squint your eyes a bit and tilt your head like he just said something in a foreign language you don't understand.
Keep changing the subject to non-theo-cultic topics and try to speak to his genuine personality not his cult-personality.
Anyway, that's how I handle these types (and their anti-types as well).

usual advice should be heeded, bar all of their numbers, do not return any messages, if they catch you unawares say nothing , dont let them invade your life with their nosey miserable so called concern with your well-being, you know far more about your own well-being than these idiots do.

After 3 months of inactivity in field service the elders finally wanted to talk to the wife and I. They want to set up a bible study with us to try to "reactivate" us. Be very careful what you say as these head hunters are actively looking to JC anyone with doubts. Tell them your depressed or having trouble at work or that you need to rebuild your relationship with God, anything that will get them off your back.
I personally feel that ignoring them does little good but creates more suspicion.

I have told them that "I'm exhausted. I did all I could for years and years and there really doesn't seem to be any reward."
They wouldn't stomp a man while he's down, would they?

That seems like a good suggestion. ^^^^
Once they finally reached out to us we sent in disassociation letters, lol. We couldn't stand to play their game. But there's some really good suggestions here.
Regarding the warning, I honestly wouldn't worry. I've heard it said many times, even from the platform, because people feel like they're in trouble. With you being away for a bit, they probably wanted to emphasize that it was just a friendly call. It probably is, but let's face it, even a friendly call is with the goal of control and pushing you to go back.

Turns out I will not be able to meet with them today, even if I wanted to. Some other things have come up and I am going to have to postpone.
Just texted him to cancel

although it is titled as "britain branch report" it's not much of a report.

it only goes for just over 6 minutes and half of it is some 'wild talk' about romeo and juliette, i say wild talk because it has nothing to do with the british branch and if there was any point to it, it's lost on me.. anyway, about the only thing said that is of any importance was this (at the 2.20 mark) -.

"the governing body, very kindly, have given us permission to continue construction once we have reviewed the scope of the building so we hope to be underway very soon".

when i was a telecom engineer there was a particular transistor that we would routinely change on any circuit board we were working on.

it suffered from a condition known as thermal runaway.

a drop in resistance across the collector-base junction caused a rise in current that generated heat which reduces resistance in semiconductors which increases the current even more, creating more heat and so on until the transistor self-destructed.. (for geeks - this is why field-effect transistors became the choice for amps).

such expenditures do not require a res-olution.
