I think he is, but I"m not too sure. Just wondering because looking at that purple pimp outfit with hat that he wore to Prince's memorial, I wonder if he ever gave a talk wearing the same outfit, when I've read here that some brothers were talked to for wearing a pastel colored shirt while giving a talk.

I'm glad. I hope it shakes things up a bit. I'm sorry for witnesses and the daggy clothes they have to wear. No wonder the African brothers And sisters and others take the opportunity to wear traditional costume.
I bet Larry Graham is worth a Bob or two...same special rules apply to him too!

It sounds, bad, but it's true. Black brothers in black communities get an incredible amount of leeway in what they can wear.

Oh man not from what I've seen. My body has gotten on guys before, for flash suits etc. Sure it differs from area to area but, I've not seen this sort of leeway.

Where's Tony tight-pants when you need him? He was scathing not just of tight pants but of that whole "worldly" look. But, yes, it seems that some communities of JWs don't have the "tighter" standards of other communities.
Money changes everything...I guess.

BTW, extremely telling that Larry Graham chooses to wear a purple attire from head right down to his feet. No doubt the choice of color was intentional, harking back to Prince's Purple Rain heyday when he was overtly into sexual lyrics and innuendo. You'd think that JWs would want to be hammering home that Prince turned his life around and not do anything that could signify his past was now being glorified.

Hadriel, when I was at Bethel, my congregation was in the worst parts of Brooklyn. The Bethel elders in the hall were semi-heavies, one step below the branch committee members. The elders (not bethelites) wore some pretty flashy suits on the regular and it was ok.
I also noticed the lady with Larry is apparently not a witness (wearing a cross). Interesting
steve2: Purple has been Prince's color for a very long time. Even after the days of Purple Rain and his time with The Revolution.

There was a crack-down on zoot suits in New England a while back, when folks were partying like it was 1999. No Zoot Suits!
Then there was the NO Hoochie Momma style-for-sisters talks at Natick, the DO guy's name escapes me which is good 'cause I'm trying to completely block him out of my mind's recollections :- )

I found this factoid on Wiki interesting, not that it's relevant to your thread. I wonder if Drake is a JW? Ahahaha, nothing would surprise me.
.
Graham is the father of singer/songwriter and producer Darric Graham. He is also the uncle of the Canadian rapper and actor Aubrey Drake Graham, better known as Drake.

@Barrold Bonds Oh I don't doubt it, but at least from my experience bros were definitely counseled for wearing suits that were too flashy or really bright colors.

This must have been about 10-15 or so years ago. . . .
Friends of ours from NJ moved out to Minnesota and their new hall at the time was Prince's hall (this was just around (maybe slightly before) the time he started in the cult).
From what I recall, they said Larry Graham was a MS and -- according to these folks -- a really nice, down to earth guy.
Prince, however, was weird.
Again according to them, he would come into the meeting just as it started and sit down right in the front row with a small entourage. After the meeting, he did not mingle with the congregation, but talked only to Graham and a few select bros. He would then quickly leave without making any eye contact with the rest of publishers.

Graham walked a thin line back in the day as a JW. There were brothers who figured if
he can get away with his life style so can I and remain a JW. I guess it didn't work for
the ones I know, they fell by the way side.

Compton was in my circuit. Some people were dressed as this and even more flamboyant. I've seen brothers in head to toe orange, lime green you name it...hat and all. Sisters the same.
I went on Graham's website and I saw he was playing at an Atlantic City casino. I thought that was odd, nothing wrong with it in my book, but still think it's odd for an elder...the "example" s**t and all. Again..doesn't bother me...

Dagney: My uncle was a elder in the Watts( near Compton) congregation before he passed and there
was a big difference in the dress code in that KH. LOL
My uncle told me, do you think anyone would think about visiting the KH if you
dressed in the door to door work looking like the pictures in the WT and awake of folks.
You need a little style in our area.

James, are you saying they weren't as colorful?
Maybe, they dressed like that for the conventions. I have no idea, but there were some amazing dressers...ladies included...head to toe.

I have never seen so many colorful suits at the KH. LOL

My last convention was 2001 I think, and it was as so. I can't imagine them coming down on it because it is just part of the community/culture. Who really cares?
There were also sisters in full African dress, but they were not from Africa...maybe it's a convention time thing.

If anyone wore that sort of suit in my part of the world, he would be accused of having a self centred attitude and a worldly attitude quicker than you can say "prince".....
An appointed brother or pioneer would be in severe trouble!

Why is Larry Graham wearing purple from head to toe? Isn't it to honor Prince?
Jehovah's Witnesses are supposed to believe that honor should go only to God, never to the individual; it's the main reason you can't observe your child's birthday.
And why would a Jehovah's Witness in good standing be arm-in-arm, holding hands, with a woman he isn't married to?  (According to funeral coverage she is Shiela E.)

Ordinary Witnesses would be yanked in a back room meeting with elders so fast it would make your head spin over either of these issues.

Celebrities get a pass.  More double standards of Jehovah's Witnesses?

Yes, agreed definitely the witness were not so " uniform" back then , whoever they were.
I can asure you that currently, in the UK at least, black brothers are expected to wear the same old suits as everyone else ( with the exception, as I mentioned, of national costume) . However, I have noticed that these days sisters of all colours often are wearing the sort of clothes we would get into hot water for wearing - high high heals and short- ish tight skirts loads of jewelry etc - I think wat you guys are calling a " hoochie mama"? Could someone explain what that is If not?
Just wondering I there are any ex witness of colour on this board can say if CURRENTLY folks can get away with that sort of flamboyance, as I say in the UK definitely not!

konceptual99
konceptual99 11 hours ago

So LG can wear purple but wearing black is ALWAYS wrong,
What if there was a request to wear a specific colour to a funeral - you can bet some self-righteous elder would crack down on it.

Maybe "Bro" Larry Graham just walked his own line at the funeral and couldn't care less for what anyone is sayin or gonna say !
Why we have to unpick every little thread of information and then microscopically analyse it to try to discover that indisputable tid-bit that will finally be the death-knell of the JW dot Org puts us in the same league as the writers in the yellow press publications of this world ....................lets fo------in move on !

I think I have a unique involvement with JWs. I'm not a baptized member. My mother has been devout for over 20 years. I took never took interest, in fact her complete 180 attitude lead me to run away in my pre-teens. Coincidentally I met someone who was formally involved with JW's. He was forced into baptism way too young he said. His father who is a JW minister or elder (I'm still confused about all the levels of status and hierarchy) had him disfellowshipped for infidelity after being rushed into marriage with another congregation member when he was 19 or 20. My partner had custody of 2 children when I met him, from a relationship after his divorce, he had no family support in any sense whatsoever, and eventually I took on the adoptive mother role with pleasure. At this point, in my mid 30's, I started taking an interest in the faith. Today, I attend some meetings, even study with a pioneer on occasion. My partner has no problem with it but cautions me to be alert to their tricks. As a new student, I found the religion comforting and beautiful really. Although, I find it kind of odd that the people from the congregation I meet with and even my own mother, will clam up, put their hands together and look down at the floor whenever he is in the room. No hello, no nothing. I find it extremely rude, especially when my partner is nothing but super nice, respectful and even helps them out in some small way, and he doesn't even get a simple thank you. Yet, his witness parents have zero problems carrying on conversations with him or constantly telling him what to do, not like he listens. Here is where I'm stuck. There are witnesses I've met who are so humble and genuine, but then there are those who are flat-out pompous and arrogant. My mother is very simple and extremely brave, my partner and I have the utmost respect for her and the service she does. She ministers back on my home indian reservation which is full of destitute and desolate individuals where all kinds of evil live, a small place where murder is not uncommon. Then we have my partners parents, who live in an upscale suburb, with a garage full of classic cars, his father is so neurotic that no one can touch and if some one does it's the end of the world. His mother only lives for dinner and tea parties, waging her tongue with people with money. I've forgiven my mother for all the childhood abuse and neglect, she is a residential school survivor, and I know we are not at fault for the intergenerational trauma. She has changed for the better and devotes all her time to sharing that love and translating in our native language. But I can't help feeling resentment and bitterness towards my partners superficial parents. They spoil our children with lavish gifts all the time that usually end up being thrown out or given away by the girls themselves (our girls have grown up to be very modest and content with simpleness) and then the grandparents get very upset with us about it. They even forced themselves on our property to build a playhouse during a time when we said we were not ready for it, just so they can brag about it. We have a number of mutual acquaintances who inform us of all their boasting. I told my partners father once that if he really wanted to spend money on them, can he contribute to their RESP, to which he replied "is that really whats important?" I wanted to give a smart answer but I respectively bit my tongue. I don't talk to the mother anymore after I was embarrassed after finding out she was telling all our personal matters to people she doesn't know we know and I confronted her on it. She gave a weak apology then ran her mouth for half an hour about how she didn't do anything wrong, slipping in scriptures here and there. The hypocrisy is getting out of hand and I finally expressed as politely as possible their true actions as I see it. Well, now they avoid me like the plaque and bash about me to my partner. I've tried to reach out and even asked for their help in printing and lamenting the bible character cards I've seen on jw.org, but still haven't gotten any acknowledgement. Instead of cards, they get fairy wings and vampire dolls with indecent clothes and too much make-up. It's getting to the point where I want absolutely nothing to do the faith, as much as that will devastate my mother. And not only that, I'm getting pushed over the edge with their ridiculousness, my partner and I are not married, and his parents constant sanctimonious involvement in our lives has been making me think of leaving. It's all so sad and frustrating. I don't know what to do and I don't know who else to talk to. Any words of support or advice would be nice. Thank you.

It sounds like you're not in much risk of being taken in by this cult, but I would still recommend that you (and your partner) take a look at jwfacts.com to see what JWs won't tell you about the organization, and much of what JWs themselves aren't told about the organization. Things like the religion's history that are hidden from you as you are pushed towards conversion. It's not a healthy religion by a long shot. Please be careful.

All religions have some crazy people in them, but I truly think the JWs are worse than most. It's an extreme religion, and it doesn't seem to bring out the best in people. If you join it will only get worse for you because you will be in a group of people like that. There are much better religions out there if you feel you must belong to a religion. It sounds like you have good values in your own.
His parents sound like loons, how sad for you all.  Limit your association with them set firm boundaries and stick to them.

oh, the colliding of two economic 'cultures'. yea your absolutely right, you know in your gut its time to leave. If you deny that youll regret it. dont let the fear grip you. its really not all that hard if you can just keep real busy and just fade away. I wish that could be the way for you. get the load of bricks off your back so you can stand up strait and see the sunny road you need to walk on.
yes its difficult. so sorry your feeling so stressed. nothings easy these days.
seems like unfortunately both extended famiiies are is causing needless drama and its frustrating your efforts to raise the children and have a relationship in peace. I guess thats what happends when people are bored, they try to control the lives of others. lol as long as you let them control you, they will.
Its a shame you cant move far enough away so you dont have this influence in your life.
yes, we all have dealt with religious hypocrites . Im my exp,
They 'push out' the undesired ones by causing hurt feelings guilt and ignoring you,
and love bomb the ones they want to keep in 'the fold'.
if your not contributing to thier 'numbers' and meeting thier 'goals' your as good as useless. It has nothing to do with the bible. neither of you will ever meet up to thier standards no matter how hard you try, and you will go crazy. you cannot let these people get to you. your never going to be happy jumping through all those hoops. you just eventually break.
you have first hand experienced how people truly are, despite the claim of a 'true faith'. so many of them are like meddling control freaks, lol
Your not baptised, lucky you, never do it. you can simply stop going to thier meetings, and read a bible in peace if you want. as for your partner, Im wishing he could also break free from he strangle hold his family has on him emotionally. seems to me,
he doesnt feel worthy of them and is hurting himself trying to break down the wall they put up. he wants to prove to them in another way that hes a decent human worthy of Gods attention, and he is.
but in thier eyes, he wont win. he is dealing with co dependant relationships. his parents seem to depend on needing to control his thinking.lol
hes right to warn you,he doesnt want to be like them and boss you around, but hes concerned and wants you to have your own thinking mind, not thiers.
your a family unit, you dont need anyone elses misguided 'love', Id be too busy with my own family to be letting all that nonsense upset me. I wish you peace.

It is very hard reading one continuous paragraph.
Try breaking up your comments into several
paragraphs to make them more readable.
I dare say  that, if you yourself came across one very, very long paragraph, you probably wouldn't be drawn to reading it.
I started reading and got distracted by your one very long paragraph.

What is RESP please?
You sound like wonderful person, with good ethics - you don't need a cult to tell you how to raise your lovely girls. You have seen their fruits - the cruel shunning of your partner. It will only get worse, if you get baptised they will expect you to leave your partner...and therefore the kids too, because he is disfellowshipped. These people look forward to the horrible deaths of billions of people..including your partner and his kids, how is that loving??? They prey on the lonely, the addicted, the lost and the poor...your mother is recruiting for a publishing company turned property developers. Please read JWfacts.com and find out the TRUTH ABOUT THE TRUTH. Your girls will not be safe as paedophilia is rife amoung the org, check out the ARC online please.

OneEyedJoe I will set some time aside to look at that page, thank you. sowhatnow, thank you for your words also. Diogenesister an RESP is a registered education savings plan.
I should have mentioned that I never plan on getting baptized. I like my marijuana and I will never give that up. I don't think I will ever marry either so I will always be considered sexually immoral. And also my mother has never been intrusive, controlling or pushy with the religion. I grew up never knowing a single thing about the bible, Jesus or God. Although I grew up knowing catholicism, protestants, anglicans, methodists, and presbyterians, I never found any truth in them and truly dislike them for their involvement with the mistreatment and attempted genocide with my native race, the trauma and intergenerational effects they bred in us. My study with the pioneer is only once every one or two months if that for the past two years But I think that if I had been taught even a little of the bible, some of the experiences of the bible characters (even though I see parts of the bible to be very violent), perhaps the first 3 decades of my life would have been different, but then again maybe not. Regardless, I appreciate what I've been reading and learned how to accept life on a more positive note. It is frustrating having the grandparents involved when they're not supposed to be. The old me was very bold and blunt, not my most attractive qualities I've been told. I'm just trying to find a peaceful resolution before I snap on them. I'll never understand my partners choice to tolerate it. Yeah, I get the whole 'its important thing to have grandparents, girls deserve that opportunity, not growing up alone. they'll learn on their own' thing, but they're his children not mine and at what cost. It seems I have a lot of research to do. I never thought I'd be delving into such madness. Any more information anyone has to give is appreciated. Thanks again.

Stuck in the middle  never found any truth in them and truly dislike them for their involvement with the mistreatment and attempted genocide with my native race, the trauma and intergenerational effects they bred in us
I don't know what tribe you are from, I am english but am very interested in the history of your people , I have read many books of the history of First nation peoples in the Americas - the trail of tears, chief Joseph and the Nez Perces, the Modocs, the story of the Quahada Comanche's Ten Bears and Quanner Parker, the Kiowas and Satanta, the Oglala Sioux and Chief Red Cloud, Sitting Bull and the many eloquent orators whose speeches reduce you to tears when you read their love of the land and their people and the deep regret and sadness at what the europeans wrought. I can totally empathize with what you are saying. It truly was a horrific genocide equal to any this world has seen...and as you rightly say the damage continues down the generations...I am truly sorry.

Run. Run as fast as you can, and as far away as you can. Your "partner" isn't ever going to truly leave, and he's apparently some momma's boy who's too whipped to even stand up for his kids or YOU.
Nothing is ever going to get better in this situation. It's all downhill from here. Take note of what you have, and leave. Leave now, and spare the rest of your adult life. Thank me later in hindsight.

Thank you Diogenesister. It is always valued when a person respects and acknowledges our pain.
I am of Odawa nation, although I was never raised traditional, never taught our language, my mother was taken away at the age of 9 up until she was 18 and her upbringing in the institution greatly affected her way of life which resulted in my diminished sense of being. I had to seek out traditions and language on my own. My mother did stay after 18 for a few more years to earn a degree within the same sect, but at the cost of her culture and self-identity. She hadn't recovered completely, and slowly started speaking the language that was beat out of her not until her 40's or 50's. I used to think her situation made her easy prey for JW's but I see all she wishes to do is give hope to people who never had a chance in life, those who never knew hope. She doesn't push people to believe or get baptized, but the study of hope is better than nothing at all. There were a few people who came up to me, gave me a hug, and told me my mom made them rethink suicide. She never showed affection when I was a child and I was already a degenerate kid when I ran away. When we later reconciled is when I noticed the huge change in her psychological state and I finally had a mother. To this day she doesn't judge me, she doesn't preach, she is so accepting even after knowing of all atrocities I've done or caused. I had not met any other jw's outside her congregation until I met my partner, so I never had a biased thought of its members. It was only until I met his parents, that changed. He's not whipped or controlled as some may think. Rather he will treat his family his respect even though they don't deserve it, because that is just who he is. He honors and shows reverence to my mother even though she has never said more than 5 words to him in 6 years, because that is just who he is.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada spent 6 long emotional years gathering evidence and testimonies of survivors of indian residential schools all across canada. The government along with the churches spent over 100 years physically, psychologically and sexually abusing native children as young as 5, sometimes killing them. They were forcibly taken from their parents to assimilate them to 'kill the indian' within. The commission ended up with a 10 volume final report with over 6000 pages within them. You like to read it seems, but I must warn you, it is extremely graphic and powerful. A very sad dark hidden reality in this country's history.

The problem with some people is they aren't satisfied with living their lives, they want to live yours too.
Don't allow it, live your own life and raise your own family. The parents have already had their turn, it's your turn now.
Leave so you can have peace to raise your kids.

I knew a girl named Nikki
I guess you could say she was a sex fiend
I met her in a hotel lobby
Masturbating with a magazine
She said how'd you like to waste some time
And I could not resist when I saw little Nikki grind

She took me to her castle
And I just couldn't believe my eyes
She had so many devices
Everything that money could buy
She said sign your name on the dotted line
The lights went out
And Nikki started to grind

Nikki

The castle started spinning
Or maybe it was my brain
I can't tell you what she did to me
But my body will never be the same
Her lovin' will kick your behind
Oh, she'll show you no mercy
But she'll sho'nuff sho'nuff show you how to grind

Darlin' Nikki

Woke up the next morning
Nikki wasn't there
I looked all over and all I found
Was a phone number on the stairs
It said thank you for a funky time
Call me up whenever you want to grind

Oh, Nikki, ohhhh

Come back Nikki, come back
Your dirty little Prince
Wanna grind grind grind grind grind grind grind grind grind

"Hello, how are you? I'm fine. 'cause I know
That the Lord is coming soon, coming, coming soon."

I've heard the Kingdom Songs. If Prince wrote those types of songs, he would be Broke/Bankrupt and not worth $300 Mil. What a crock!
The JW's are looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Just like Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, once they are gone for a while, everyone forgets about them. Sad but true!

Interesting article I found about Prince and the JW religion. I guess they are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame. I find it disturbing that the Elder stated if Prince had an addiction to Prescription drugs, that is a personal matter but the hundreds of intrusive JW rules like going to college (not scriptural) and growing a beard (also not scriptural) are not also considered a personal choice. You talk about "gulping down the camel and straining out the gnat." HYPOCRISY AT IT'S BEST!

Everything you do, from whether or not you smoke, whether or not you wear tight pants or whether or not you believe a certain JW doctrine is a "personal matter ! Since when do they not get involved in the personal matters of the congregation members?

This comes as it emerged the Purple Rain star was cremated in secret on Friday - in accordance with Jehovah’s Witness tradition that a person’s body must be cremated within a week of death. -DailyMail

You can't really go too much by what is said in the media....they always get things skewed or just make things up. Who knows how this reporter came up with this bit of nonsense.

I saw that article too Pete Zahut. And no that is not a requirement of a JW. You have to take everything with a grain of salt. But I do believe that they will do or say anything to get even a small piece of Prince's fortune.

oppostate
oppostate 2 days ago

From that article in the Daily Mail here's the KH of the Congregation Prince belonged to:

Caption: Prince, who officially converted to the religion in 2003, is associated with the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, Saint Louis Park congregation in Minneapolis

The photo of the inside made me notice some interesting details.

Caption: The singer attended a 50-minute ceremony at the church (pictured) on March 23 to commemorate the death of Jesus – an event celebrated by Jehovah’s Witnesses all over the world
It's an old KH style, that was common back in the 80's. The side windows and the ugly light fixtures are from that style, and not the more modern RBC's window-less walls with parabolic light fixtures.
Also the chrome legged chairs are what most KH used three decades ago, and in what hideous colors. Around here in New England the RBC changed over to a similar yet wider steel frame construction, painted and not chromed, and also a little bit wider and more plush by a half an inch on the seat.
They're obviously meeting for going out in service and the projection screen is down ??? I thought they were moving away from projectors and screens, there seems to be a large screen tv at the right hand side of the photo.
If as the article points out Prince gave "gifts of mercy", in considerable amounts of the monetary sort, then that dough wasn't making it to the local congregation's remodeling of the KH. It seems Momma WT must have been the recipient instead.

George Cook, OMG, George F'ing Cook, whattttt!

Caption: Elder George Cook (right), one of the nine elders of the small 90-person congregation, said Prince regularly ‘witnessed’ alone in the community and in groups
George Cook was DO in our District over two decades ago. He was very detail oriented and very eccentric. He was very controlling and very devoted to Momma WT. It's interesting he still does his hair in a "overlapping" comb-over fashion and wears 1990's eyeglass frames.
His real family name is Greek. But they shortened it to Cook. This once powerful District Overseer must have been put to retirement as with other DO's. The article says he's 81 years old. He wielded a lot of power and expected total allegiance. It is interesting to see how the mighty have fallen. He was once in charge of the Caribbean, traveling the islands and having a grand ol' time. Now he just looks like any little old man in a suit a bit too big for him.
Did you ever get to meet George Cook?
-------------------------------------------------------
@ToesUp
Thanks for bringing out this article. I found it very interesting if somewhat inaccurate about the cremation traditions etc.
I agree that there's definitely a double standard when it comes to those favored among the 0rganization. But...
As the case with George Cook, now just an elder in Prince's home congregation, the mighty ones can come crashing down when Momma WT doesn't need them much anymore.
--------------------------------------------------

(I also want to apologize to ToesUp for hijacking his post with my comments that didn't quite follow the thread of intended discussion. I know there are quite a lot of posts about Prince, and I didn't want to fork this information needlessly, yet I feel I may have been hijacking his post since I was commenting on George Cook and the KH itself so if you'd like to comment on George Cook or the KH I've started a post just about that onlyhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5732286779621376/george-cook-former-do-now-just-elder-princes-home-congregation-kh).

Prince's addictions to painkillers was considered a " personal matter " by this elder because Prince probably donated hundreds of thousand of $$$$ of " gifts of mercy " - for all other rank & file JW's addiction to painkillers would mean a hot seat in a judicial committee. Double standards - much ? Ridiculous. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Just because one person did a bloodless hip surgery doesn't mean that everyone could. Medical situations vary from person to person. You never know what else he may have been dealing with that made bloodless surgery impossible.

Jehovah’s Witness tradition that a person’s body must be cremated within a week of death.

WTF?

Elder Cook also said the church does not have a problem with Prince’s reported addiction to prescription drugs because ‘that’s a personal matter’.
Finally, the truth is spoken. They do not have issues with alcoholism or prescription drug addiction. Only illegal drugs are from Satan.
‘We are in to homeopathy and things like that, because nothing is 100 per cent.'

And I'm so glad he came clean about their belief in useless water--I mean homeopathy--having magical properties to heal. So glad to see this in writing.

Maybe Prince thought since the new kingdom was so close that he could wait until then to be cured of his health ailments and he was uncomfortable being operated on.

For the time though he would just stick to meds. to counteract any pain symptoms.
Ive known a few JWS who averted getting a operation out the fear of being in a position of having to have a blood transfusion and thinking that they could hold on to the new system of things. ...... the Truth

Just like everything else in dubland whether or not a person is disciplined for some infraction of the "rules" depends on which elders are assigned to the case and how the accused is perceived by them. For example:
The wife of a kind well liked elder in my hall became addicted to prescription pain killers. I had no idea until another sister told me that said elder and his wife had been to dinner and the sister found her (the wife) raiding her medicine cabinet!! It came out that the addicted sister was stealing painkillers from every home she visited in multiple congregations!!
How was she dealt with by the elders? Glad you asked. PRIVATELY reproved. They decided she's simply a nut and felt sorry for her husband who btw did not loose his position over it.
In many congregations she would have been DFed and hubby would be fired. It's a crap shoot.
Needless to say, there are few rich and famous JW's. The organization for various reasons has shifted it's focus to gathering money. It follows that there would be strong reluctance to discourage/discipline such ones.

I think this Cook guy did a quick side step of the issue concerning drug abuse, kind of a oops I better say something appropriate while on camera that wouldn't create much opposing objectivity to my religious institution..
Somehow I think most JWs don't think that people can abuse legally prescribed drugs to their own perilous detriment ?

Now tell my he was Oked to go out in service looking like that ???
He may have attended the Memorial back in Mach but the fact remains he was faded less devout JWS who probably hadn't gone out in service for a couple of years being that he has had that Afro for a few years now.
There's a difference from a steadfast devout JWS and faded less devout person who only shows up occasionally.

Just more double standards by the WT. Same as the Williams sisters (tennis stars), things that we would get lectured for are over looked with these high profile celebrities. The WT knows where their bread is buttered and do not want to stop the monetary contributions coming in.

Finkelstein

I think what happens with JWS is that they purposely exploit popular celebrities to use them as advertising monikers for the organization, similar in fashion to how the Scientologists use its known celebrities for the same purpose.
I can still recall how JWS boldly and arrogantly talking about Micheal Jackson before he was caught out as a pedophile.

interesting article i found about prince and the jw religion.
i guess they are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.
i find it disturbing that the elder stated if prince had an addiction to prescription drugs, that is a personal matter but the hundreds of intrusive jw rules like going to college (not scriptural) and growing a beard (also not scriptural) are not also considered a personal choice.

We could expect to be marked by the congregation for listening to his music. We could expect to be dfd if we did the things he sang about.

I always got the sense that even though they supposedly don't view one person as more important than another, when someone noteworthy becomes a JW or says something complementary, it somehow serves as validation and quiets their own insecurities about the religion.
"See....even someone as famous and wealthy as Prince recognizes that we have The Truth"
Prince was said to be worth $300 million so apparently he didn't have to continue performing or living that lifestyle in order to survive, yet JW's are willing to give him a free pass even though they themselves would be reprimanded for doing the same thing. They are expected to quit employment that keeps them from attending meetings, has bad association after hours or endangers their spirituality.

Pete Zahut:

Any R&F (+ non-celebrity) publisher would not be seen as being in good standing. There would be restrictions on commenting and saying prayer, etc.
But we've seen it time and time again that celebrities get a free pass. It's been like that throughout the WT's history.

I almost wish I was still going to meetings so I could turn up wearing a Prince-inspired skin-tight purple skirt suit and white puffy shirt complete the look with trowled on make up and eyeliner and dripping fake pearls and occult symbols.
I would just say if it's good enough for Bro Prince.......

The journalist should have asked the elder about the blatant imagery on Prince's latest CD which depicts him wearing triple lens sunglasses - with the third lens over the area religious mystics refer to as "the third eye". Accidental? Unintentional? If so, then I'm the tooth fairy.
I get the impression that his more zealous JW days were behind him and he was just getting on with his creativity but keeping his nose sufficiently clean to escape the elders' intrusions.
Besides, he had been on a series of tours in the months preceding his death that consumed his time and energy. Now, tell me he made time for the field service? In my opinion, not just his looks but his lifestyle pretty much precluded field service. Why do they make it appear otherwise?
Imagine chasing after Prince for his field service report!

If you are a fader or you have reduced activity markedly - say resigned as a pioneer or an elder or MS or gone inactive and still have some relationship with your immediate family or spouse - how do you stay positive around them when you feel like shaking them out of their stupor but believe deep down it would be counter productive?
Thoughts from all most welcome.

Personally I steer conversations away from cult topics and I also refuse to use the cult speak. I talk about vacations and the fun times we have with family and possibly some nice places we want to go. Then when they bring up the cult I just change the subject again, keeping it positive maybe bringing up work or asking how their jobs are going or how the car is running. Basically anything positive that has absolutely nothing to do with the cult.

I have done exactly as Darkknight above, ever since I left.
It isn't difficult, I have been so happy since I left that it just shines out of me, and even if I get miserable, negative news from them, one particularly likes to report which JW's have died or are seriously ill, I always have some positive words.
Let's face it.our life of freedom and hope is so much better than theirs, where they know deep down that their "hope" is hollow and will not happen.

OMG do I have to bite my tounge. Here is a good example of a conversation i had with my father yesterday.
Me=it's been speculated in the news that Wt may be a benefactor of Princes estate.
Dad= How do you even know he's a witness.
Me= show him Wt press release.
Dad= Well it says in the last days we will be persecuted.
Me = hey hang on a minute how is Wt taking someone's money - who by and large lived an immoral hedonistic life style - persecution. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, and the question remains of why wasn't he dfed.
Dad = Your on slippery ground and you are going to end up very hurt.
Conversation ends with an eye roll and dispear. How do you reason with someone like that.

You don't. You leave it alone. They have the right to their beliefs just as you have the right to yours.
My mother is still a witness. I wouldn't dream of laying into her with whatever this week's forum hobbyhorse is. As long as she is happy that's fine by me.
We talk about the kids, holidays or whatever. If I was constantly attacking her faith then it would make for a strained relationship and why on earth would I want that with my mother?

Just as darknight says above.
yes, stay positive and happy as you speak about life. Witnesses have had it ingrained in them that anyone who slows down in witness activity (or leaves) will have a sad, depressing, hopless life full of problems.
By remaining upbeat and positive about life, they see that actually the opposite is true!

I talk about life, the real me. Being happy! Content! If they talk about religion, cult talk I leave the room or change the subject. If they insist sometimes I'll just listen, maybe they will drop a gem or a bomb....you never know with this bunch. It really just depends on the group how zealous the are or how feed up they are or disappointed.
Then you just ask question to get them thinking more on the trail you set out. Maybe lead them to a ARC website you just discovered or here's one I used. I took them to the JWorg website and showed them the sign language masturbation video. Funniest shit you will ever see. They cant believe it's on their website. At first they insist there no way then they realize yes way. The look on there face is priceless. Then they go quiet, then I go watch basketball....... LMAO

It depends on the family member. For instance, my mother in law is an active witness, however, she’s not focused on the “deep things”. For instance, she doesn’t try to understand the prophecies or to remember the names of various bible characters. She simply trust that the brothers are doing their best. She believes it is the truth and even fears that we may not survive Armageddon. However, as she sees our live style and the good actions we do here and there, she loves and respect us. To me, that is all that matters. So, we never talk about religion. Quite the contrary, I will even help her with her tablet and other things when needed.
My dad on the other hand loves to have a profound understanding of the bible. In his case, I knew he did not respect my choice and spent much of his time judging me. In that situation, I could not let it go. I did not see the point of holding onto a relationship where respect was not to be found. I believe that my father felt the same way as we talked and debated things for at least 100s of hours over several months. In the end, we now still talk and have mutual respect for each other. He does activities with my family and we still talk about religion from time to time. However, I do not try to take him out of his religion as I believe he is happy there. On the other hand, he doesn’t try to bring me back in as he also understand that I am very much happy where I am.

Positively show them during weekly bible reading, daily text how they have to better prepare to defend the truth. like : how do you explain the overlapping generation when you are at the doors? work to make them sharper, more knowledgeable witnesses.
Recent text was about Moses with the wisdom of the Egyptians. Clever people those Nile Dwellers, being able to build the Pyramids, while water lapped at the peak of Mount Everest. prepare to defend your faith!

I have to admit that sometimes, I find it hard not to share things that I see. For instance, I couldn't help to show my dad how the Watchtower was bragging and lying in regards to the "Telly Awards". He took it hard, but he had to concede that I was right.
Than, not long after, I see the ADD card for the no blood transfusion. 1) It no longer has references to the fractions, 2) it now gives the elders the right to access my dad's medical record and 3) It comes with the directive to make photocopies! I was shocked. I wanted to talk to my dad. I even started writing an email on the subject. And then ... I deleted the draft. Its was just too soon. Too soon after the "negative shock" I sent with the "telly awards".
So, I'll have to wait until it just comes up normally in some future conversation.
In the meantime, I need to accept that my dad loves something that increases the risks to his health. At least, he doesn't smoke, do drugs, or drink too much. He doesn't do any life threatening activities either, such as driving too fast, bungee jumping or unprotected sex. So, overall, he has better odds than some others. Still, it would suck to die for a lack of blood when a loving God would obviously not ask for that.

Darkknight said it perfectly.
Sometimes I have to just walk away before I say too much or say anything at all. Like I have said before, saying anything is similar to banging your head on the wall.
We choose to go watch a beautiful sunset or take a walk rather than spending our time trying to reason with unreasonable people. We already wasted enough of our life. We refuse to waste any more.

I just take interest in my wife's activities. I ask her if there were a lot of people at the meetings. I ask who she worked with in service. And every now and then, I ask how so and so is doing. I just keep things lite and positive. She's happy and so i must accept this and it makes my life easier.

I make it a point to have positive things in my life to talk about. I avoid subjects like politics or disasters that might trigger JW reactions. If they start venturing toward JW things, I redirect to talking about the JWs we know. There's always plenty of gossip about who's become seriously ill, divorced, or started partaking.

I think all these interactions are golden opportunities to sow seeds to freedom from wt's preposterous promises. keep it non-confrontational--positive. upbeat. ,
Given the simplistic mindset of most serious believers, it could be easy to subtly introduce a thought that later will trigger Eureka moments in them. humor helps too, to make it fun.

The best thing to do is give them the blankest look you can muster whenever anything JW related comes up. It really gets their curiosity up when they realize that it makes no difference to you anymore what JW do or say.

Them: There was an earthquake in Timbuktu today...the end is really getting close...
You: Blank look on face...eyes blinking.... crickets chirping in the background.... (do not answer no matter how uncomfortable the silence is) Count to 100 and change the subject.

I just try to change the subject to something else if they are talking directly to me. Like just the other day my in-laws asked when our regional is. I just said I didn't know and then changed the subject quickly to something new one of the kids is doing before they could get a follow up question in. If it's in a group setting with the family and they are talking about jw stuff, I just stay out of it. It works for me and everyone is happy.

I'm very close with my parents who are in their mid 80's. My father still serves as an elder and my mother is right in the thick of things too. I have been DF'ed for ten years now. Here is what I have learned.......
They will never accept anything unfavorable about JWism - NEVER. Why say anything? I tried in the beginning to educate them on the real Rutherford, the UN scandel etc. All I did was alienate them from me and hurt their feelings. I now let them go on about the twoof......endless stupid stories of the latest WT articles and who is working at Wallkill, how close the end is and how soon that resurrection is going to take place. It is painful for me to keep quiet, but have learned that it is a small price to pay for a peaceful, beautiful relationship with two gentle old people that have been fooled their whole life.

I like to try and relate the current political affairs and mention Hillary and Bill getting back in the white house, or Trump getting into the White House. Its surprising how JW,s have pretty strong feelings one way or the other about who will be in charge for 4 years and then I will say something like, if only you guys voted, 2 million votes one way or the other would change an election.

"We are saddened to hear about the death of Prince Rogers Nelson, who was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2003," the church said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
The church said that Prince "found fulfillment as a Witness and in sharing his faith with others."

Is this a first for the WT, to make such a comment on a worldly celebrity ? Have they ever done it for anybody else?
OK , M.J. became an apostate converting to Islam before he died , and still was given a J.W. funeral at a Kingdom Hall ? Is that true ?
I don`t think the organization ever publicly acknowledged that M.J. ever was a Jehovah`s Witness , true ?
So if this "People" article is correct it seems a shift in policy. What`s next !
Sports stars , movie stars , are now going to be acknowledged as J.W.`s in good standing ?

Really? I wonder if he too was conflicted, and disturbed by elements of JW.org.
Did Prince hear about the ARC? Did he too watch the live testimonies from the leadership?
I wonder, did Prince feel comforted and at peace with the direction of the organisation? Did his heart thrill to listen to the manipulative phraseology of the G.O.D.? Was he like many, disturbed and hurt?
How does anyone know what was really in his heart....? Certainly, the 'spokesman' for the church wouldn't truly know - or would they?
I hope he found peace and joy with hope for the universe.
RIP Prince.

I wonder, if Prince gets a "witness" funeral, will it be the generic 'sales pitch' funeral talk or will the 'brother' be able to actually say something about the person instead of delivering the jw infomercial?
Probably depends on how much $$$$ Prince left to the borg!
just saying!

Do they know something we mere mortals don't? . . What happens if the results of Prince's death is from Drug abuse, as some of the speculation says (don't get me wrong, I hope not!!! I liked Prince.) . . . But will they retract the statement? Make excuses for him or themselves?
. . I think they may have been a little previous in releasing a statement, it may come back to bite them on the bum!

They have a "proviso" in the statement.
the part about not having details as to cause of death.
it is obviously a statement drafted by the legal department.

Why do they appear to make massive concessions when it comes to celebrities?
Prince, the Williams sisters ?? They seem to get away with far more than you or I could ever dream of getting away with. Fashion, lifestyle choices, career choices.
The WT are friggin hypocites they will bend the rules depending on how much money you bring in, it's that simple.
It's a scam people, wake up!

They didn't allow us to have my Dad's memorial in the Hall because he wasn't baptized yet, even though he bled to death because he signed the "no blood" paperwork before having open heart surgery. This happened a matter of months before the began allowing "Blood Fractions" that would have been enough to save him.

The brothers said he'd be resurrected because he died faithful to Jehovah but because he wasn't baptized, they couldn't allow us to use the Hall even though he was a clean living, good and exemplary man they'd known and associated with for decades. This event was the beginning of the end for a lot of us in terms of leaving the Organization.

Prince on the other hand is known throughout the world for his often highly sexualized music and performances, androgynous dress and make-up and generally odd behavior. It will be interesting to see if his funeral is at a Kingdom Hall or maybe an Assembly Hall. It will not go over well with the "still in" members of my family, if this happens.

It could backfire for the Watchtower. My still in parents are disgusted by this whole circus and the fact that the organization even commented on it. So maybe it will wake some people up.

I just made a comment on the People magazine link in the comments section so as to warn the public concerning the dangers of WT and JW mind control and how it's compared to the " Stockholm Syndrome " as JW's are taught to support even unethical behavior by WT leaders. Of course I also shared my condolences to Princes family & friends on his loss. But I feel it's important for the public to see that this mind control cult- Jehovah's Witnesses - is JUST as dangerous as Scientology is. Most people in the general public are NOT aware how dangerous or criminal the WT organization is. Hopefully a few will start seeing by my comments. If I can only help a few non-JW's to open their eyes - who knows ? Perhaps word will spread further as to the dangers. Take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Sounds to me that the WTS or some separate individuals are using his popularity and this media event as propaganda ploy.
Is there no mention of Prince being a faded non-participating JWS ?

WT just released a new updated "Funeral Discourse" (S-32)...it allows the speaker to spend time highlighting the personal attributes of the deceased. Coincidence, likely.
Maybe someone can download it from JW .org (forms section)

First of, I loved prince. I believe he tried to be good and do good. But I also find it hard to believe that he didn't smoke, had sex or use any type of non prescribed drugs in the last 13 years. Especially the "no sex" for a sex symbol. I find that very hard to believe.

Oh man...I couldn't agree more. There is more double lives out there than you can count. The JW's are no different. They have all of the same problems normal "worldly" people have. They are full of sh*t that they have Jahs holy spirit. My spouse and I counted the # of JW's (family and friends) that are on meds for depression (some can not get out of bed) and the # of alcoholic JW's we know. Not only are they on meds for depression but they are also on anti anxiety prescriptions. It's amazing and all a farce that they are living the happiest lives. That is crap! Prince is no different. I loved him as an artist but he also had problems, like the rest of us. He was just famous and rich. HE WAS HUMAN!

Even in the 80's, Prince was giving away his money, according to this article with Rolling Stone in 1985 where he said "Money is best spent on someone who needs it... I give a lot of things away, a lot of presents and money."
I am thinking that yes, he must have regularly donated to the Society, especially if he believed his donations were truly helping others (e.g. disaster relief).

OMG I can't believe they acknowledged him at all. Obviously they do have a publicist--cartoons, a website, dancing and signs at the conventions--their publicist is normalizing them. This is dangerous, folks. Normalizing something makes it grow.
I wonder if, when his cause of death is released, they will regret claiming him.

They appear to be setting themselves up for the court of public opinion when, and if, there's a contested will.
They just have to convince the public that he loved "Jehovah" and wella! ...When the family comes forward to contest the Will the WTS doesn't look like a douchebag of a denomination for snatching his money out of the family's hands.
Right now, it's looking like they have a dog in this race.

When you really analyze this " press release " from the WT Society- it really is unprecedented in their 137 year history since 1879 - I believe. To publicly in a major news publication come out and offer condolences to ANY famous celebrity's friends or family - JW or no JW. At least by name.
My theory is this, two things are happening here I think :
1. WT Society is trying to cast itself in a " positive " light in a PR and marketing way to the public due to the fact that most of any media coverage of the WT organization is always negative- especially with regards to the last several years of WT child abuse scandals making national media either in print or television, or Internet broadcasts.
2. The other point is if in fact he WAS having to rely on subscription pain medicine for his health and refused to get hip surgery due to the " no blood " WT policy- it served as a good excuse for the WT Society to say that they were unaware of Princes condition or health situation- thus exonerating the WT Society of any responsibility for medical decisions Prince might have made for himself.
WT Society comes out appearing scot free to the public of any responsibility for what happened to Prince. In THEIR mind anyway. Kind of how my wife and I see this after talking it over. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

All 7 and we'll watch them fall
They stand in the way of love
And we will smoke them all
With an intellect and a savoir-faire
No one in the whole universe
Will ever compare
I am yours now and u are mine
And together we'll love through
All space and time, so don't cry
One day all 7 will die
All 7 and we'll watch them fall
They stand in the way of love
And we will smoke them all
With an intellect and a savoir-faire
No one in the whole universe
Will ever compare
I am yours now and u are mine
And together we'll love through
All space and time, so don't cry
One day all 7 will die

And I saw an angel come down unto me
In her hand she holds the very key
Words of compassion, words of peace
And in the distance an army's marching feet (1,2,3,4 - 1,2,3,4)
But behold, we will watch them fall

And we lay down on the sand of the sea
And before us animosity will stand and decree
That we speak not of love only blasphemy
And in the distance, 6 others will curse me
But that's alright, (that's alright)
4 I will watch them fall(1,2,3,4,5,6,7)

All 7 and we'll watch them fall
They stand in the way of love
And we will smoke them all
With an intellect and a savoir-faire
No one in the whole universe
Will ever compare
I am yours now and u are mine
And together we'll love through
All space and time, so don't cry
One day all 7 will die

[(Just how old)]

And we will see a plague and a river of blood
And every evil soul will surely die in spite of
Their 7 tears, but do not fear
4 in the distance, 12 souls from now
U and me will still be here - we will still be here

There will be a new city with streets of gold
The young so educated they never grow old
And a, there will be no death 4 with every breath
The voice of many colors sings a song
That's so bold
Sing it while we watch them fall

All 7 and we'll watch them fall
They stand in the way of love
And we will smoke them all
With an intellect and a savoir-faire
No one in the whole universe
Will ever compare
I am yours now and u are mine
And together we'll love through
All space and time, so don't cry
One day all 7 will die

How did he get a free pass on the 'tight pants', cuz that's all he wore...
---
Actually, this situation is going to leave trail of bad publicity on WT forever.
With the internet and the ability to comment on news and social media, no JW apologist will be able to defend against the flood of commentary about the cult that Prince was a member. Do you really think Prince would be as popular as he was if the general public knew what he thought of worldly people and their impending death at Harm-u-gettin' ?
This is going to be huge.

Prince would not be a good choice for any religious organization as a self supporting moniker or representative. ..
There were probably a few raised eye brows and talk when he showed up at a KH or a Assembly.
With the engaging conscious thought  " Oh No Not Him "

I never take anything at face value.. You may know these things already :
Just saw Larry Graham on the news at Prince's cremation. He was interviewed ,in a purple hat . Larry's life story appeared in the Awake in the 80's..he of Sly & the Family Stone. Larry's website attests to his J W faith. He is a musician & J W of repute
David A Semonian is a proper J W spokesperson who's name appears frequently on the J W.Org site news releases & comments .
So, doubt not.....

How ironic.....It will be the money from Prince that bails out the society from its monetary woes and court settlements!
Sad, but Ironic.
And witnesses will claim "it was Jehovah's guidance and blessings" that made it possible....

This comes as it emerged the Purple Rain star was cremated in secret on Friday - in accordance with Jehovah’s Witness tradition that a person’s body must be cremated within a week of death.

You can't really go by what they say in the media.....they always get something skewed.

Holy shit, I never thought of that.
If he ODed on pain meds, 'cause he couldn't have needed surgery, 'cause the surgery would have required a forbidden transfusion...
x
...then the WTS is responsible for the death of a major celebrity, multimillionaire, and cultural icon.

It will be interesting to see if Wt embrace him or start trying to distance themselves from him. If they end up benefactors of his will, how do they explain away the tainted money. Personally I don't think they are in a financial position to refuse it either. I would love to see them inherit that volt of un-released music, just to see what they do and the spin they can put on it. As someone has pointed out by not including the words "in good standing" and that they were "un-aware of his medical condition" they maybe already trying to wash their hands of him. Personally I think if they do get a prince pay out it may cause more problems than it could solve.

So, talking with my wife yesterday. she was out cart witnessing (Barf) and one of the people she was with claimed to have know prince, or meet him or something like that.
Well anyways...They or her or someone (They are all Braindoogled) speculated or fantasized that since prince did not have any relatives or something or the other. That he would leave all him fortune to the Society.
Man, you all know I say stuff that just pisses off my wife and believe me it took all my power not to say. " Well I thought they just sold a building for $700 million, i am sure they are hoping for more money!"
But, i didn't say a peep. But, man...what a greedy bunch of people. They don't care about a persons life, just give us your money.
i hope he doesn't and i hope Rev. Jesse Jackson gives the church service.

I read online that he has a sister, also a musician, aunts, uncles, cousins and half siblings. I'm sure there are plenty of relatives to distribute his money too. Unless his will stipulated the WTS gets it all, which I doubt based on his recent behavior; it seems to me that he drifted away from the witnesses in the last few years.

Didn't know he had siblings, so now I see that he has a sister and other relatives I hope they get a healthy chunk of it, I would rather see his money go to ISIS than the Borg, they both terrorize people, but the Borg does it in a smug, sneaky way with their followers

It will be quite amusing if he has. That means he may have also left them the royalty rights for his songs....
So you'll have the WTS earning money from songs including Gett off, Sexy MF, I love you in me, the list goes on. :grinning:

I'm just speculating if Prince did have AIDS and he knew his health was deteriorating, it would of been very foolish of not to have written out a will. That been said if the funeral service is to be JW or is stipulated that it's to be conducted in a Hall. It will be interesting to see what happens considering the media attention that would be on them and the public backlash if they failed to comply e.g refusing to allow the kh to be used or a 5 minute talk about the deceased and a 40 minute talk on religion.

The OP asked for poster's thoughts. Here are mine:
OP is a complete A** for posting "speculation" and "fantasizing" concerning a matter that neither he nor the other humans mentioned know anything about.
OP: Click bait? Trying to raise the number of your posts? Wanting to be popular on the board? What is your reason for posting such drivel? Wanting to make JW's look bad? You look worse, imo.
Now rant away, I stand by what I say. Thanks for asking for feedback.

@ - AnneB - Maybe you don't realize it, BUT this is a DISCUSSION forum. People DO talk, and speculate about events, peoples actions, and what may or may not happen in certain situations.
Also, there are NO counting of posts on this board. The only thing I see is YOU judging the OP's intentions, of why he posted something to DISCUSS on a DISCUSSION FORUM. You have judged him, and even told him how "worse" he looks. Sounds like YOU are a typical JW!
If you do not like discussions and talking, and speculating, on subjects, then YOU should not be here.

I hope the washtowel doesn't see any of this. It's enough to make me hope for the dollar to become toilet paper. While this will be a major hardship for those who don't prepare with gold and silver in advance, it will be the death of major cults that rely on ongoing donations. It will also put major companies out of business that are preventing society from advancing (Monsanto, for one), allowing major advances to come from us "lower down people". And the big parasites will not see any of the new currency.

Hopefully he had his estate protected by something other than a will. An estate his size would be subject to the dreaded death (estate) tax absent any serious financial planning prior to death. Essentially the estate tax (roughly 50%) must be paid within 9 months from the date of the death of the decedent or the IRS comes calling for their money. There's loop holes but it tax some fancy foot work ahead of time.

He crashed a little red Corvette.
Seriously though, Prince may have been a member, but he seemed like a fringe member and one who wanted to do good deeds outside of Watchtower's sphere of influence. They might get something, but I bet the lion's share is split among actually good charities.

It appears Prince died intestate. That means no will. According to Minnesota state law, his full sister will get everything, unless it is contested. If this article it correct, it is just another deal that the GB didn't close.

Just wonder if Prince knew TTATT. Seems that someone like him that used the media would at least use it once in a while to do some research... http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-prince-jehovah-20160424-story.html

myelaine
myelaine a day ago

Prince said in an interview, "I can't be played. People who try to play me play themselves."
I'm convinced that Prince did know ttatt and (as I said on the JW fb page) his lifestyle was at odds with everything that JW's are taught are the dictates of God. It isn't God that decided that some can't be involved in sports at school and some can be like Prince. It is clearly the whim of men. I hope every JW will question why there is preference given to celebrities BUT, it is your voices that can bring accountability because "the sheep" wont go against the WT. Prince did his part in showing the hypocrisy of the GB...honour that, it's YOUR portion of the inheritance...keep the media interested in the subject by contrasting r&f with Prince with special attention to the fact that GB makes policy not God.
xoxo

interesting article i found about prince and the jw religion.

i guess they are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

i find it disturbing that the elder stated if prince had an addiction to prescription drugs, that is a personal matter but the hundreds of intrusive jw rules like going to college (not scriptural) and growing a beard (also not scriptural) are not also considered a personal choice.

i was talking with a friend of mine who knows a few people in the home department at bethel.

apparently, prince was, as i noted in the title, on the board of directors.

he apparently was sort of a silent partner or advisor in the whole thing.

i think he is, but i"m not too sure.

just wondering because looking at that purple pimp outfit with hat that he wore to prince's memorial, i wonder if he ever gave a talk wearing the same outfit, when i've read here that some brothers were talked to for wearing a pastel colored shirt while giving a talk..

when we were in, it was 'the truth'.after being out and free to think and research as i please, what a disappointment to find out that this org is nothing but a publishing house of lies.they literally are in the business ( corporation ) of selling lies.don't believe me?review the publication that you 'studied the bible in' and discover for yourself that the very doctrine that attracted you, no longer exists.it was the "live forever" book for me.the generation that saw the events of 1914 has died and now after a few tweaks the massive lie of "overlapping generations" has been promoted as "truth".this takes us to galatians 1:8,9.read it carefully and repeatedly.

in multiple translations.however, even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to you as good news something beyond what we declared to you as good news, let him be accursed.

9 as we have said above, i also now say again, whoever it is that is declaring to you as good news something beyond what you accepted, let him be accursed.. you cannot change the doctrines.

so over the course of three days he had a trial which doesn't seem to have bothered him much.

he got whipped ok that would have been agony and then put on a torture stake/ cross/ whatever yes that would have been hell.

but he was on it for a day and the whole thing lasted for three days.

they said we are all the same in god’s eyes.

that everyone is equal.

to prove this they call everyone “brother and sister.” sadly, this really isn’t the case.
