Many who have watched the GB know that they seem to be desperate to be admired, to be looked up to……. Now the question arises—do they really enjoy their lives? Does their superiority complex make them feel good?

A recent study published in the Journal of Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience tries to find an answer to this perplexing question by looking at two brain regions: medial prefrontal cortex and ventral striatum. While the medial prefrontal cortex is associated with self-referential thinking, the ventral striatum region is associated with feeling good. It was found that people who are in love with themselves have poor connectivity between both regions which means that although they are obsessed with themselves, internally they don't feel good and that is why they seek external admiration.

That means they are actually experiencing “weeping and gnashing” deep within themselves. (Mathew 24:48-51)

It would be assumable probability that they do.

Not only is the WTS looking after their personal welfare but traveling around the world and get treated like a celebrity is just the cherry on top.
How many men in their retirement age get to do that ?

I'm sure there's responsibility on their shoulders to a certain extent but hey they've always got the cash in the bank to spend where and when its deemed necessary.
This year they should be even happier when they pocket a billion $$$ or so selling off the remaining property holdings in Brooklyn New York.

They have lives that are enjoyable, but I suspect that they don't particularly enjoy it. I think they truly believe the BS they're selling, and that must be incredibly frustrating. The world just won't quite seem to bend to fit their view and they are therefore constantly in conflict with reality. That probably doesn't make for a good time
That said, if they really don't care and it's all about business for them, then I'm sure at least some of them enjoy it. They don't all seem to be quite as full of themselves as AMIII, so I'm not sure I could say that they're all "in love with themselves." If they can put aside the fact that their worldview doesn't mesh with reality and just enjoy having all their needs taken care of and being adored by millions, then they should be having a pretty good time.

I'd like to think they'll die in extreme pain and I can watch them as they do. However, I feel they enjoy thier abuse of others. I don't really put much store in studies in this and that.....the GB are abusers. They live a rock star life style.

What's not to enjoy? They are more than rock stars to their members, they are almost Gods. They could order everyone to drink the purple Kool-Aid and most of them would do it.

They live the good life. If they are true believers they have no fear of death and in the meantime they are at the top of the heap and everyone listens to every word they say. The only downside could be if they are humble, which I don't actually think they are, they may be burdened with concern for the rank and file witnesses and the tough life most of them live.

The thing is they have no need to seek external admiration it comes to them automatically because of the position of power they occupy. And I'd say they are loving it.

If you notice, they will remind you of their position during a talk (in case you missed it being announced as they took the stage). They will mention their international travels, how hard they work as a GB member, special experiences from people approaching them and pouring their heart out, yada yada.
Wouldn't it be nice if people would used their authority to make a positive difference instead of patting themselves on the back and pushing their agenda. But that's just not how it works usually.

They must feel disappointed they can't come up with a better system that would take less than 9000 hours to make a convert. M

They must watch the others on the GB like a hawk so that no new thinking is slipped in, and also watch for next demise of GB member so they can rise in the GB rankings and also watch the "helpers" that they not helping themselves or pushing their influence too much.

I have wondered if there is rampant paranoia and political positioning up there at the "top".
The other thing I wonder are if they are true believers in what they are promoting, how happy can they be? The whole religion is built on judging people and finding them unworthy, or "missing the mark".
Lastly, what are they thinking now about the child abuse stuff that is closing in on them? The dropping membership? The apathy? The failure of the end to come?
The one bad thing about being at the top is it makes you an easy target.

I would venture to say that some of the GB are control freaks, possibly sociopathic narcissists who really enjoy their lives because they have control over 8 million lives by the policies they strut out there. I mean- just think of the physical benefits- all your medical paid for, don't have to hold down a real job like many middle aged people do today who aren't wealthy in the least - and they jet around all over the world giving speeches in remote places like Zimbabwe or whatever.
AND to boot- the GB feels they are a " law unto themselves " - they feel they don't have to appear in " man made " courts to testify or give reasons for their faulty child abuse policies because THEY feel " God Jehovah " will be their judge - not PUNY man. Especially not " worldly men " or " worldly courts ". Think about that for a minute. How many of us- you and me - could get away with flouting the laws of the land without winding up incarcerated in jail somewhere ?
Indeed - I feel the GB thinks they are Teflon and they can't be touched. Or held accountable for anything. Yeah, I think they feel pretty good about their position and are as happy as clams . I don't think that they are " " weeping and gnashing " deep within themselves " over anything actually. Sociopath's don't have consciences. Those nerve endings in their brain neurotransmitters have either been turned off or singed, burned dead so they don't operate. How else could the GB make policies to be followed like " no blood transfusion " policies that kill innocent minor JW children , and policies that divide families such as shunning ? It's because they have NO moral values or ethics whatsoever. Think Ted Bundy, Jim Jones, David Koresh . True the GB hasn't pulled a trigger on a gun and killed people - but they HAVE killed people indirectly by their teachings and policies. They need to be locked up for life in prison for crimes against humanity. With the key to the prison thrown away. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Terry 2 days ago

I was 11 years old and I was sitting at my desk in homeroom class when the student on my left, Gregory, tapped me on my shoulder.

He held a folded note in his hand and was gesturing for me to take it. He leaned toward my desk and whispered barely loud enough for me to hear,
“Pass this note to Robbie.” Robbie was the girl sitting on my right.

I took the note, unfolded it and read it just as Gregory punched my arm. A shout-whisper came along with the fist,
“Don’t read it, you moron!”
I picked up my pencil and scribbled one word of my own and passed the note to Robbie.

I had a crush on Robbie and so did Gregory Bunn. His note had read,
“I really like you.” He signed it, “Greg”.
I had added the word “don’t” making it read,
“I really don’t like you.”

I was, you see, acting in my own best interests. Gregory Bunn had sought to use me as his agent acting on his behalf as a go-between. Obviously, I had my own agenda.
His 4-word message was 'technically' still there in the note:
“I. . . really . . .like . . .you.”
It was 100% transmitted!
The problem (for Gregory) was the additional word,
“don’t” had rendered his message 100% opposite of his intended communication!
_________

Imagine the conversation which followed.
“Did you give her the note?”
“Yes.”
“Were all my words still there?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“You’re welcome!”
______________________

Acting as an agent is tricky business if the agent corrupts the message--or worse--reverses the intended meaning!
Is there a lesson in this? Hmmmm?
The so-called Faithful and Discreet Slave has claimed to be Jehovah’s agent (mouthpiece, channel) since the time of Pastor Russell.
According to the Watchtower's self-myth, Jehovah passes THEM and them alone a note intended for the anointed all over the earth. We only see the note after their EXTRA nonsense has changed it.

“Did you deliver my message?” Jehovah might well ask.
“Yep, you bet--sure did!”
“Did you deliver it intact?”
“Every word was there!”
____________________

Obviously, if Jehovah were truly using Jehovah’s Witness leaders as a go-between, agent, or mediator and His divine communication was delivered dead wrong, the agent would be to blame, right?

Not so fast!
The problem is more complicated than that.

An agent acting on behalf of his employer can create liability ruining the reputation and good standing of that employer.
If a fast food franchise poisons customers, the corporation is sued for millions and the newspaper assigns blame to the Company NAME rather than the individual employees who may have violated health policies.
Whose name is on the religion called JEHOVAH's Witnesses?
Question: Why do Jehovah’s Witnesses excuse the FDS for poisoning millions of people around the world who eat the “Food at the proper time?”
Think about it--they have NEVER taken the blame!
Those of us who believed every word printed in the Watchtower publications have been fooled time and again can never lay the blame on the FDS because they point the finger of blame right back.
The FDS seems to want us to pick and choose what to believe while threatening to DF anybody who actually exercises that choice.

In effect, they tell us, "You shouldn't believe the stupid or wrong stuff we print--we're only human!"
Jehovah's Witness members aren't really free agents. They are caught in a terrible bind. The MUST believe and act on what they print because THEY say it is a note being passed by Jehovah.
When they have scribbled in their own corrupt changes--Jehovah is misrepresented--but there is nothing any member can do about it until they leave and don't come back.

Pretty interesting Con-Game if you ask me.
_____________

Notice a similar situation in the Catholic Church. It is not called Faithful and Discreet Slave channeling Jehovah's Truth. It is called Magisterium.
"Christ has instituted the Magisterium to communicate His saving truth, the faithful should respond in docility and joy to the Church’s teaching out of love for Christ.
Infallibility is a charism whereby the Holy Spirit protects the Magisterium from teaching error on matters of faith and morals. The Church exercises this charism when she teaches definitively, whether in a solemn manner (i.e., through the extraordinary Magisterium) or through the ordinary and universal Magisterium."

Simple and honest answer to that Terry is that they are and were corrupt self indulgent assholes who self avowed themselves to support the operations and activity of the publishing house of which they personally positioned as its top controlling leaders.

All the previous GB and presidents were self supportive constructive liars and deceivers exploiting people's ignorance and insecurities to effectively support this publishing house and the continuing proliferation of its publications.

Some people would aptly call this freewheeling unregulated fear mongering charlatanism.

Finkelstein
Finkelstein 2 days ago

Is it not reflectively interesting that the men who acquired the most accumulation of power and wealth toward themselves were the ones who authored the actual articles in the literature they published ?

The people that they had allured through those publications became their associating friends ( subjective obedient workers) within the organization and they were rigidly enforced to obey all instructions laid out by these top controlling, albeit corrupt men.
For people to position themselves within the organization such as an elder and further up the ladder, you had to show lengthy active loyalty to the top leading men, such as the GB or the previous past Presidents of the WTS.
The WTS is a example of twisted cultivating power seeking for a few men who were more pressed to build up that assuming power around themselves on their own by proclaiming god had specifically chosen them to spread the good news of the Gospel .
They proclaimed that they were more righteous and honest toward correctly interpreting the bible, that was their self avowed marketing strategy for themselves and the support of their own publishing company which they had the operating power over.

Terry,
You made the point. It is true even in its opposite sense. A comparison of the "faithful and discreet slave" in Mathew 24 and Luke 12 would show that it is the same "faithful and discreet slave" that later becomes "wicked" or abusers or exploiters. Yet they have not conveyed it, but conveyed exactly the opposite--just as happened in your school experience.

To make mistakes is human, to make mistakes dictated by faith is also human but foolish. I am pretty sure that as JWs we all have made decisions that later on we regretted, in some cases they have been minor and in others they had profound effect in our life; major items were like blood and education related. I am going to post one decision that was a major disaster for the person involved and if you know of something similar please contribute.
In a Spanish speaking country where "machismo" was the norm and it was common for a man to have several mistresses, there was a sister married to a wealthy man and they had four children. They lived according to his wealthy status and he didn't opposed her spiritual activities, his only blemish was his "womanizing".
A few of the busybody sister in the congregation started harping on the wife about his infidelity and the need to keep the marriage clean. The pressure was so much that they started to influence the sister way of thinking and her domestic situation was now very bad.
It got to the point where she asked for a divorce and her husband agreed, it was completed and they decided to keep living in the same house under separate conditions. As was easy to foresee this arrangement didn't work too well and in no time she was in front of the elders confessing that she had relations with her ex. To make a long story short, she was DF and her husband refused to remarry; so they went back to living their prior normal life with the detail that now, she was no longer a wife but a concubine.
After that experience she didn't pursue reinstatement, she got away from the "truth" and became just a DF person "living in sin". The woman was an excellent person but naive, the sisters that influenced her were some of the most prominent in the congregation but in reality they were "snakes".
A true experience without a happy ending.
Thanks for reading

Well, it led to her getting out of the religion - and, let's face it, if "sisters" could talk her into making a stand, she's got to learn some self-assertion.

Very truth, she was the wealthiest person in the congregation.
The time period in question predates 1975 and that time this was a major disaster for her, in reality it was a blessing for herself and the children that were able to escape from the "truth".

Hecce
Hecce a day ago

For me: my biggest blunder was related to my children education, I was not against higher education but since there was so little time it was a waste; so I made no efforts for them to improve themselves.
Luckily enough they were not drinking the "kool aid" and pursued careers on their own. They have been very successful and we have a very good relationship.

That is one of the biggest problems with the insular nature of the congregations - no personal boundaries. The most "spiritual" people think it well within their rights to provide all sorts of unsolicited and uneducated advice under the guise of "keeping the congregation clean" or "helping" someone who is otherwise viewed as "weak".
I am sure that if I ever lost my mind and went back, I'd get into all sorts of trouble for ignoring the advice or otherwise telling people to mind their own business.
Glad I don't have to worry about it.

Quite right, if I remember correctly this sad affair was triggered by some Watchtower article that some people took to the extreme; as usual they were making decisions for others, they were not affected personally by the results.

page 3 or any other side, foot notes and share them.

bored today i looked at page 3 and 2 of the 4 elated willing offerings really looked peeved, simone and eston, even if you serve in a vacation destination, paradise, reality will set in, and it will show as in this telling picture.

and:  page 22, it is downhill all the way.

during the 20th century while we had our eyes fixated on our "one-time" idol the watchtower and their false prophecies like the generation of 1914, king of the north & south flip flops, 1975, "the generation that wouldn't pass away", etc.

; a number of actual prophecies were unfolding.

we just weren't taught to look for them.

Evolution is a Fact #33 - A Tale about Tails

humans are classified as apes.. apes don't have tails.. except when they do.. we used to have tails.

i don't mean "we" as a species; i mean you and i as individuals.

we all had tails.. embryologists divide the development of a human embryo into 23 "carnegie stages" based on multiple physical features.

so at around the 46 min mark - the are talking to this guy from ukraine who was a zoologist.. he talks about how he was a staunch evolutionist (who wasn't able to prove evolution to himself, by the way).

then when he studied nature through the lens of evolution - he found that nature contradicted evolution.. his big point came when he said - "imagine emptying a box of letter blocks on a table, and the encyclopedia britannica appears, or could a computer program come by chance.

so who could dna come by chance.".

i have always been opposed to the practice of shunning especially for simple mistakes, especially when someone questions the 'truth' or the gb.

or elects to speak to a shunned family member or close friend.

or violates the blood ban.. even as a practicing jw i was uncomfortable with shunning.. an article caught my attention today on ritual sacrifice.

is doubt always an indication of moral failure-- faith vs. doubt?.

human survival depends upon a rigorous balance between perception and the means of testing first impressions.

nature’s own test is that of eater and eaten.. inside the food chain, predators blend with their surrounding habitat.

in our congregation, the elders rarely comment.

the majority rarely comment, 2 sisters, vehemently, and often comment.

since in their case, it can not possibly be" teaching in the congregation", is participation in the wt "study"in general an affirmation of faith?
