Hello Everyone,
I've been a silent observer over the last couple of years, and thought I would finally join. A little bit about myself. DW is TBM, and I attend with her, but only "from the foyer".
Thought I would give a few examples for what the real name of our former church should be. Perhaps you have have one too.
The Church of Whatever Joseph Said, Then Re-said, at the Expense of Others, While Invoking the Name of Jesus in The Latter Days.
The Church of A Gang of Gold Diggers who Found it Convenient to Invent a Church in the Name of Jesus In The Latter Days.
The Church of Those who want to be Known As Christians, But Confuse everyone now in the Latter Days, To Include Our Members, Because We Don't Know when Jewish Requirements Ended, and When Christianity Began, Either in the Days of Jesus, or now in the Latter Days.
The Church that wants to be Christian but Practices Anti-Christian Principles Such as Polygamy, and Murder (Laban, MMM, Self Murder via Temple Rite) In Accordance With However Joseph Smith Invoked the Name of Jesus Christ in the Latter Days.

Welcome Lee, I'm glad to have your viewpoint here and enjoyed your post. Hope your DW walks in the light with you sometime soon.
As for church names, how about, The Church that lies and hides behind the name of Jesus to cover up its dark and dreary not so distant past; or,
The Church that Sucks,
The Church of Prophit,
The Church that takes money from the poor to build malls.
How do you spell bullsh#t? Let me count the ways...

“The Church of Those who want to be Known As Christians, But Confuse everyone now in the Latter Days, To Include Our Members, Because We Don't Know when Jewish Requirements Ended, and When Christianity Began, Either in the Days of Jesus, or now in the Latter Days.”
Here is when the Christian Church began: It was at Pentecost. After Pentecost happened they were not scared anymore to speak about Christ. The Church started to develop. And then Jesus said I will be with you until the end of time. Oh ya..except for 1700 hundred years until Joseph Smith restores what the Son of God has built. Think about that ..he restores what God had built, that which was to last until the end of time. That’s pretty amazing. To be a better builder than Jesus. Joseph Smith even said so in the Church writings. “Not even Jesus has been able to hold a Church together like I have” ..Amazing. Who is this guy really? Did not an angel think he could do the same? Work hard and you will get to heaven. Follow the requirements and you will make it! Sound familiar?
John 20: 19-23
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. 13 The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. (Jesus) said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."
The Jews that were following the requirements did not need to follow Jesus. Those who knew they could not follow the requirements ended up following Jesus. Does that make any sense? If your Christian it makes all the sense in the world. It is so contrary to what we have been taught. Black and white.
The real apostles were failures, not worthy tributes to good works and vanity. Peter failed miserably, he denied that he even knew Jesus when his life was at stake. He denied Him 3 times. When Jesus came back from death he forgave Peter 3 times. Peace be with you Peter 3 times. Paul had Christians put to death and yet he became a firehouse for God. Thomas could not believe unless he saw and Judas because of the devils shameplaced upon him killed himself. Jesus loved Judas as much as Peter. He just did not come to know it. Maybe at his time of death he did like the thief on the Cross. Anyway it started at Pentecost, that is if you believe in iScripture or not.

rich,
elaborate on this point if you will. My understanding is that Jesus said he came to fulfill and not to deny (the laws of moses). I also have fully read the gospels where Jesus admonishes the Rabbis and pharisees and calls them something pretty terrible and claims they are shutting themselves and those they teach out of heaven. I assume you're meaning here that Jesus came for the "sick" and not the "healthy". Did Jesus actually say that those who were totally in compliance with the laws of Moses did not need to accept his final and ultimate sacrifice as the atonement of their sins if they were Jews upholding the laws of Moses to perfection? The temple curtains tore upon his death and that is supposedly the sign of the end of the need for temple rituals such as giving up of sacrifical lambs/animals for the sins of people. Didn't Jesus uphold the idea of original sin, making all mankind guilty of sin by sheer virture of their human condition, thus kind of negating the statement above? I don't mean to quibble here, but I'd like to hear more about what you're actually saying? Perhaps I don't understand.

How about 'The Church of Self Grace" Don't get me wrong here, I have all the same problems in life that a Mormon has. I myself belong to the Church of self Grace as daily I tend to attend. But what I beleive I have been gifted is the ability to understand this battle.

Yes this is what I mean. In Christianity the fall means that man lost all of God’s Grace by his desire to attain grace on his own as a result we all die and nothing we do can save us. We cannot jump into the ocean, go under the water and live for very long. We would run out of air. We cannot live without the Grace of God. He is the water, He is the air we breath. Rather and I want to make this very clear. He breathes us. (My opinion) It’s like being stuck in a very large pit made of iron with smooth walls 1000 feet tall. No matter how good you may think you are at following the Commandments you won’t get out. Then comes the choice. A hand reaches down; you can either take this hand or say I don’t need your help, sooner or later I will get out on my own. No Cross needed, no passion, no death to sin, no resurrection. Billy Graham has always said “without the crucifixion we would have no resurrection” I believe , it is my belief we all have this cancer; we all lack the grace of God. We all die. Look at the state of the world. But mostly all I have to do is recognize my own sin. Now I could list all the good that I do, but I would rather list those things that I don’t do or fail to do. That keeps my feet to the ground. It’s a very good thing to know you are a sinner in need. It makes God bigger in ones life and it makes love from Him even that much more special.
Did Jesus actually say that those who were totally in compliance with the laws of Moses did not need to accept his final and ultimate sacrifice as the atonement of their sins if they were Jews upholding the laws of Moses to perfection?
No he did not, the fall of mankind was a fall for all.
No one can be saved by keeping the law. Salvation comes only through grace that was lost in the garden because man and women felt they could do things without it, on their own. Again like jumping into the water, thinking you could create your own air. , salvation is a free gift from Jesus Christ, and we receive this gift by faith, not by works (Rom.3:20, Eph.2:8-9). We come to know that all good works we do come from Christ through us (not us) The law serves only as a mirror to point out sin in our lives. Cleansing and forgiveness from that sin comes only through Jesus Christ. When I came to understand these things I did not want to sin anymore not for ant gain or pursuit to heaven, rather I did not want to because of my love for Christ and what he did for me on the Cross. More of a relationship of love rather than a ladder to climb.
One cannot know whether one is a sinner unless one looks carefully into the perfect standard - God's law-mirror. Millions who have cast out devils, prophesied, and done many wonderful works in Jesus' name will be lost (Matthew 7:21-23) because they did not bother to check their lives with His great law-pattern. Hence, they think they are righteous and saved when, instead, they are not. It’s not at all about being good, its about letting God be good in you and through you. Being a good Servant comes to mind.
All of those rituals were a foreshadowing of the true Lamb to come whowould by himself take away the sins of the world. Where the Old Testament meets the new. All Old Testament Prophesies were fulfilled perfectly in Christ. He is the fulfillment, He is the ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments were once held in the Arc of the Covenant. They were housed in Mary. She being the new Arc of the covenant. Eve said no to Gods will and brought forth death, Mary said yes to Gods will, His Grace and participated in bringing forth the life of the world. The Mass brings that fact to the present, Christ to each soul one at a time by as Paul said, by proclaiming His death until he comes again. Keeping the fire burning from one century to the next. His once for all sacrifice still moves on and on. Each eye is given the chance to be open by realizing that what took place on the cross is still taking place today for the salvation of mankind. The sin that Jesus allowed himself to endure in order to take it to death with him was mine included. When I sin today, maybe I glance at another women with lust in my mind or I tell a small white lie Jesus felt it then. He understands my heart as he is my heart. I know I am a sinner looking for His help. It makes life so much sweeter knowing that he is battling with you at your side. He knows how much I need Him in my life so as to be someday be free with him forever.
As Catholics are Churches, our rituals, the Sacrifice is all here in order to live the one Passion of Christ, His life, his teachings, His Passion death and glories resurrection. In order to come to the table as the Apostles came , in order for our own eyes to be opened to Christ in the breaking of the bread. Yes we speak a lot about sin. If you have ever had cancer and a Dr saved you from it, would you not remember your fear and give thanks to the Dr? As I forget about my cancer I tend to forget about Jesus. It’s as if all is well. But it’s really not. The Mass helps me stay at the foot of the Cross. The pain, the suffering, seeing this in others eyes, seeing my mother at eight, visiting her grave at 40, hearing the call that my brother was in an accident and won’t make it, rushing to the hospital to see him one more time, someone telling me a lie that causes hurt and pain when this lie is uncovered, me gossiping about another making him look bad in the eyes of others, on and on and on. In all of that the foot of the cross brings peace to all of that and so much joy that it makes it all worth it because in the end we will all know clearly who did the spinning, who created this tornado of destruction because we made the wrong choice in a garden far away. This is the test, to just get past it so we know what happens when we all try to be God. In the end we will be joy filled in letting God be God and we will be happy with being His adopted children. Adopted into what Christ has always had throughout all eternity. Thanks for the questions, they were very good ones. Of course this may sound like I see all this as facts and that I am not supposed to do that here, So take it all as just an opinion on these things. This is my path out of Mormonism.
I hope that it finds itself to be just as important and respected as the next persons path . Take it or leave it.
Peace in Christ, the real one I believe. Or just peace for those who have their own path that is different as not one of us on earth has a lock on God period!

Mmm, not to quibble or anything, but IMO the "church" was already there. Jesus came to fulfill the law, not do away with it, which tells me that the church is the same as it had been since the law was given. Technically speaking, from a Christian standpoint the Jews are the sect.....christians are the true Jews.

I was looking up the World Congress of Families, which I think was organized by the LDS church under the Un. I was looking through a list of oranizations that support it, kinda looking for the LDS church. But DH reminded me that it would probably be under some sort of organization name and not the actual church name. But I don't know any LDS organizations. I mean, I know the Corp. of Pres. and a lot of the business names, but does anyone know any humanitarian type organizations?

The LDS Church was not one of the convening organizations by its own name or under any other. For those who want to see a list of the convening organizations go here: http://www.worldcongress.org/WCF1/wcf1_home.htm
