Personally, there's nothing wrong with learning about your heritage, but Orthodox Mormons also do this to baptize deceased ancestors who may not have been Mormons during their lifetimes into the LDS Church. Ancestors who died before the LDS Church came into existence are also baptized in to the Church posthumously. Non-Mormons who are deceased, even if they are of no familial relation to you are baptized into the Church. I highly doubt that any deceased people are going to accept these baptisms.
