Macfarlane directed the first, second, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth radio series of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.
In the theatre, Macfarlane has directed Witby Margaret Edson, Folie à Troisby Sarah Wooley and The Past is not a Placeby Beatrice Colin for the Stellar Quines Theatre Company; The Birdsby Aristophanesand After the Rainby Sergi Belbelat the Gate Theatre; The House of Desiresby Sor Juana Inés de la Cruzand Burdalaneby Judith Adams at the Battersea Arts Centre; Damon and Pythiasat the Globeand Helenat the RNT Studio. She has been Literary Manager of the Gate Theatre, Script Advisor at the National Theatreand Dramaturgat the Globeduring its first season. Macfarlane directed the first, second, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth radio series of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.
In the theatre, Macfarlane has directed Witby Margaret Edson, Folie à Troisby Sarah Wooley and The Past is not a Placeby Beatrice Colin for the Stellar Quines Theatre Company; The Birdsby Aristophanesand After the Rainby Sergi Belbelat the Gate Theatre; The House of Desiresby Sor Juana Inés de la Cruzand Burdalaneby Judith Adams at the Battersea Arts Centre; Damon and Pythiasat the Globeand Helenat the RNT Studio. She has been Literary Manager of the Gate Theatre, Script Advisor at the National Theatreand Dramaturgat the Globeduring its first season. She has translated plays for the Almeidaand Chichester Festival Theatre.[1]
