Should I be as angry as they are that they don't believe in the same rules of grammar as me?

It does appear that believing there should be no wall between THEIR church and State seems to build one between their fingers and the English language.

I'm angry because your sentence should end "as I." That is if you believe in the proper rules of grammar, and not just yours.

Irregardlessly, you are incorrect. "Me" is the correct word in this instance.

I haven't been so moved by the loving kindness of the believers in the Prince of Peace and Love since the last time they cheered on an unnecessary torture-laden trillion tax dollar war. It's the touching example of people like this that makes me question whether I should re-convert back to Christianity. By the way, I don't like the implication in some of those hate letters that all Humanists are "liberals" or "leftists"-- it's possible to be somewhat conservative on economics and still be a Humanist. The only requirements I believe are a commitment to rationality and a sense of human compassion, both of which are somewhat lacking in those lovely letters and emails.

I don't know why I'm in shock at reading these hate letters, but I am. They either heard half truths or are just hateful people.
I am an atheist. I am a humanist, but I'm culturally very midwesterner and was raised in a Christian family. My family celebrates Christmas. I love giving and sharing and feeling the joy and love of the season - that is what it is all about.
BUT... there is a line I don't cross - while I donate, I donate to non-religious organizations - like Toys for Tots, and Doctor's Without Borders. If religious organizations only did good deeds, I would donate to them too, but they also support things I cannot go along with and will not give my time and money.

The one thing that continues to amaze me (the vile bile does not, really) is this automatic equation of atheism with liberalism. I suppose it's true that humanist ideals square pretty well with liberal ideals, but the most conservative person I know--a fiercely patriotic Marine--is an atheist. And Ayn Rand, whatever one thinks about her philosophy or her as a person, was certainly no leftie. And I am pretty moderate myself. I'm not suer how much it matters, but it just seems like one more way these bigots are wrong.

Geeze man, get with the program. you're either one of us or one of them. there's no middle ground anymore! your conservative aethist friend will now have to decide which side is he on- can't be both a patriot and an aethists that's just un-'Merican! What's that you say about Ayn Rand? I'm not listening lalalalalala ....

Back up 6-9 months ago when the Supreme Court was looking at gay marriage, I posted a very sarcastic rant on Facebook about 'the gays' takeover etc. Next day was earnestly approached by an ex-supervisor telling me to take it down as HR (hospital/healthcare) only looks at the letter not the message and what I posted was incredibly biggioted.

I didn't know that apostasy from xtianity was as punishable by death as it is in Islam. Maybe AHA should reverse course and allow religion to mix with public schools, but make sure that includes all religions. Between morning prayers to JC, praying to Mecca, and banging their heads against the wailing gym wall, they won't have enough time to learn anything useful, which is what it seems that most fundamentalists want. On second thought AHA, don't stop what you're doing.

Yep, and all apparently and predictably male too. It would also have been interesting, if not amusing, to see in just which States of our great land these cretins reside. That too would be relatively predictable. Look around though, there are at least some in every State. You will see them out there every day, misused by their parents and employers, badly educated, poor, disfunctional and angry. We can be frightened of them, sorry for them or both, but we had best learn what to do about them, as the number seems to be growing.

I'm not too worried about people like this. Look at the spelling errors! It is a bit disturbing that these people vote (in the United States that is), and that they can effect policy. But, if they're anything like the rednecks here in my home town, they probably don't vote. They just sit back and complain, watch Fox News and drink themselves into stupor.

"...at some point people like me will decide to dispend with democratic niceties..."
dispend
English[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Old French despendre ( > French dépendre), from Latin dispendere.
Verb[edit]
dispend (third-person singular simple present dispends, present participle dispending, simple past and past participle dispended or dispent)
(obsolete) To spend or expend.  [quotations ▼]
(obsolete) To waste or squander.
(obsolete) To distribute or dispense.
Leon might be French or he might be inventing new words. That's the spirit!

Sadly, Richard (#3) missed two perfectly good additional opportunities to insert the word F****** into his letter, thereby failing to accurately portray the intensity
of his intended message. He'll just have to remain relegated to #3
for those glaring omissions. Perhaps next time.

What this confirms for me is that many putative followers of an itinerant rabbi who preached compassion and nonviolence are entirely without compassion and all too eager to publicly share the violent fantasies they cultivate against people who do not share their views. Very disturbing.

These people are willfully ignorant know-nothings. They are simply incapable of logic or reasoning. They can, do, & always will ignore all facts which conflict with their prejudicial ideas.
Since it is impossible to engage in a constructive dialogue with someone who refuses to ever listen to anyone else's opinion, it is wisest to ignore them completely. After all, the purpose of their hate mail is to bother us, so let's show them that we are not impacted at all by their pure, unadulterated malice.

It's so funny to me that in many cases, atheists and humanists make better christians, than, well "christians" LOL. Rarely do I see secular people threatening to kill christians based on their beliefs. Proof once more that religion often begets hate over the tolerance and love their religion prescribes.

War on Christmas? What's to hate about eating too much, getting very drunk, having time off work, opening a couple of presents and watching my wee girl getting incredibly excited because Santa's been? The only bad thing about it is the wanky God-bothering bits between the TV Christmas specials.

Extreme violence is right. Most of these you have to take with a grain of salt, but one or two look like legitimate threats. My word...the amount of hatred and anger these followers of Christ exhibit... The sheer hypocrisy of these people ... 'Muslims are terrible because they want to kill us for not believing the same thing they do' .. 'I want you to die a horrible death because you don't believe the same thing I do', 'I'm going to "reach for the cartridge box" because you don't believe the same thing I do'...

I read through an ocean of hate mail and comments on another page regarding the vast majority's disgust towards a lead singer in a Christian Metal band who publicly stated his opinion on gay marriage, surprise surprise he is against it. You take the top 10 hate comments from that site and compare them to these comments and they are just as hateful and just as grammatically incorrect. Point is? we can both yell and scream as incoherently as we want, the voting booth churns the victor.

Just feeeel that "Christian love" pouring out of these wonderful God fearing, Jesus following people. It always strikes me as hilarious when people who claim for follow the words of the prophet Jesus make utterly hateful remarks, wish others dead, and show their complete racism. As far as I know the real teachings of Jesus (not that I believe them obviously) are to LOVE and ACCEPT one another as Jesus accepted Mary Magdalene. To do GOOD for those in need and love thy neighbour. These commenters must be reading from their own version of the "Bible' - perhaps the redneck hateful version. This gave me a good chuckle. Thanks!

Any organization that only gives out toys at Christmas is not religiously neutral. Sorry, but your argument that they should use Toys for Tots because they are supported by the Marines doesn't cut it. 1, the marine motto 'God-country-core' kind of gives that away. 2, they only give out toys at Christmas, you can't ask for a donation for your kids' birthdays. If you don't want schools to have toy drives, that may very well benefit kids in their own schools, say it. If you want people to donate toys for kids at Christmas, you're going to have to accept that there is no 'religiously neutral' organization that does this. So which is it?

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR: A Heartfelt Thank You at Year’s End
Posted December 18, 2013

It’s been another great year for the American Humanist Association! In 2013 we had over 50,000 media hits mentioning AHA and our activities, nearly doubled the number of Humanist Celebrants, re-introduced the Darwin Day Resolution and National Day of Reason Proclamation in Congress, our “under God” lawsuit was heard by the highest court in Massachusetts, and much more. We have some big plans for Humanist Network News in 2014, but you’ll have to wait until January to hear the news. In the meantime, help us reach 50,000 subscribers before the end of the year by encouraging your family and friends to get HNN in their inbox each week.
Thanks again for reading, commenting, and sharing Humanist Network News all year. From all of us at the American Humanist Association, we hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Maggie Ardiente
Editor, HNN
@MaggieArdiente

Note to Readers: HNN is taking a holiday break! The next issue will be published on January 8, 2014. Happy New Year!
