 Portland Affirmation Holiday Party
December 8 at 6:00 pm

On Sunday, December 8, 2013, we're going to have our 12th Annual Portland Affirmation Holiday Party. I’m happy to again open up my home for this event. It will be a potluck dinner, but a nicer version thereof. In the past, we've had a full-blown Thanksgiving-type dinner, but I'm ok with expanding to other delicious holiday dishes. Although not necessary to attend, it would be very helpful to RSVP to me and let me know what you're thinking of bringing. We'll also have our traditional White Elephant gift exchange (with a $3 limit), so please bring a wrapped gift to share with another attendee. (Bringing a gift is also not required to attend.)
FOR THIS EVENT, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE 3 EASY STEPS:
1) RSVP to me, Jason, that you (and any other guests) will be attending. This is mainly helpful for me to have enough table and chair space. You can RSVP either by email, or you can text/call me at my number: 503-575-5817. I have voicemail, so you can leave me a message any time.
2) When you RSVP, please let me know if you have a favorite holiday dish that you'd like to bring for the dinner, or let me know if you'd like a specific assignment. To make this the grand feast it should be, we need: vegetable tray and/or other appetizers, drinks, salads, bread or rolls, side dishes, main dishes, pies and desserts, and maybe some dishes I'm forgetting. After getting your RSVP, I will reply with an email or text/phone call regarding your dish to bring. I'm hoping to honor most all requests and have you bring what you'd like (but if you're the 4th person wanting to bring bread, that might not work.)
3) For each person who attends, please bring a wrapped White Elephant gift that can be exchanged after the dinner. The gift can be funny, seasonal, practical, or completely bizarre, but please limit the cost to around $3.00. (We will have a few extra White Elephant gifts on hand, so please don't stress out or skip the evening if you forget this.)
Holiday Party Details~
WHEN: Sunday, December 8th, at 6:00 p.m. (We'll have appetizers for the first 30-60 minutes.)
WHERE: Jason's home- 160 SW 90th Ave., Portland {Directions below}
WHO: You, your partners, friends, family members, etc.
HOW: Please RSVP, so we can coordinate dinner (jasonloyd@hotmail.com or 503-575-5817.)
WHAT TO BRING: An assigned dish for the dinner AND a wrapped White Elephant gift ($3 limit)
DIRECTIONS: (unless you live in Hillsboro or farther West)
Take I-26 Westbound or I-217 Northbound.
Take the Barnes Road Exit. (From 26, turn right at the exit. From 217, stay in the middle lane onto Barnes Rd.)
Turn right onto Barnes Road.
Turn left onto Leahy (2nd light).
Turn right onto 90th Ave.
The house (#160) is on the right hand side of the road.
Park in the big driveway, across the street from the home, or on the cross street near the home on Washington.

 Join us at the home of Dave Burton for our annual Christmas Party for LGBTQ Mormons, allies, families and friends! If you last name begins with A-M, then please bring a savory appetizer to share and if your last name begins with N-Z bring a dessert to share.
 Guests are welcome, so bring a friend. There will be a white elephant gift exchange! A "white elephant" gift is an article, ornament or household utensil no longer wanted by its owner. These are often odd or unusable gifts we have received. Gift wrap and bring them with you!

One Voice Choir to Present Christmas Concert

 The One Voice Choir is proud to present their 2013 Christmas concert, "Silent Night, Holy Night" on December 14, 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City.
 The concert is a tribute to the men and women of the United States Military, past and present, and their families who have sacrificed so much in the service of our nation.
 The concert will feature traditional Christmas carols like "Still, Still, Still" , "Go Tell It On The Mountain", and "O Come All Ye Faithful". In addition, the choir will tell the story of the "Christmas Truce", a true event in which during the Christmas of 1914, while the nations of Europe were at war, both British and German soldiers arranged a 72 hour cease-fire to honor the Christmas holiday. During this time, both sides prayed, held Communion services, and exchanged gifts. The story is an everlasting reminder that despite our differences, we all share the common bonds of peace, love, and hope for a better world.
 To honor our troops who have served, and are currently serving, the choir will sing "Bring Him Home", followed by the playing of Taps.
 In addition, the choir and congregation will sing several traditional carols together to celebrate the season.
 The concert is sure to be one of reverence, laughter, and joy. We invite everyone to attend as we honor our troops.
 All donations collected will be given to Canines With A Cause, a local Utah 501 (3)(C) non-profit that is dedicated to helping our wounded veterans by placing service animals with them at little or no cost.
 The concert will take place December 14, 2013 at
 Christ United Methodist Church
 2375 East 3300 South
 Salt Lake City, UT 84062
 Doors open at 6:30 P.M. Concert begins at 7:00 P.M.
 Children over the age of 8 are welcome to attend.

ALL Phoenix - Friends & Family Group to Gather December 8 and 16
December 8 for the Temple Christmas Lights (7:30 PM), and December 16 for Their Monthly Gathering (7:00 pm)

December 8 (Temple Christmas Lights)
ALL Phoenix-Friends and Family Group is having an event on December 8. We will be meeting on the visitor center steps of the Mesa Temple at 7:30pm to look at the Christmas lights. Afterward we will meet at Bryce and Sara Cook's house for donuts and hot chocolate. All are welcome to come!

 Kaylene Faucette has graciously offered to host this event at her house in the Roosevelt neighborhood which is conveniently located near downtown Seattle. Street parking is typically abundantly available.
 We've observed many many people in the Seattle area that meet at the crossroads of LGBT issues and Mormonism. We thought this would be an excellent opportunity to bring these people together in a spirit of empathy, openness, and acceptance. Please come as you are (wherever you're at on the LGBT-Mormon-Ally spectrum)! You're needed!
