Millennials leaving church in droves, study finds

This is encouraging news:

Released Tuesday, the survey of 35,000 American adults shows the Christian percentage of the population dropping precipitously, to 70.6%. In 2007, the last time Pew conducted a similar survey, 78.4% of American adults called themselves Christian.
In the meantime, almost every major branch of Christianity in the United States has lost a significant number of members, Pew found, mainly because millennials are leaving the fold. More than one-third of millennials now say they are unaffiliated with any faith, up 10 percentage points since 2007.

The alacrity of their exodus surprises even seasoned experts.
"We've known that the religiously unaffiliated has been growing for decades," said Greg Smith, Pew's associate director of religion research and the lead researcher on the new study. "But the pace at which they've continued to grow is really astounding."
It's not just millennials leaving the church. Whether married or single, rich or poor, young or old, living in the West or the Bible Belt, almost every demographic group has seen a significant drop in people who call themselves Christians, Pew found.

Why is the Dominican Republic the sexual playground of demogogues? Maybe he shared the Viagra with the local archbishop, who along with numerous other Catholic clergy have completely ruined the formerly perfectly good expression as worthless as balls on a priest.

Interesting expression.  Made me think of the sedia stercoraria, the chair that new popes supposedly sit in with a hole in the seat.  The new popes scrotum hangs low, and a bishop reaches under to feel them.  The purpose is to make sure this pope is male.  Who knows if this is true.

From the above link, "Interestingly enough, there are ancient and persistent legends, vigorously denied to this day by the Church, about such a feminine papacy. "Pope Joan," she is called, and her story is recorded by some 500 medieval chronicles.[2] She is said to have been an English woman posing as a man who entered the Church and became a great teacher, bishop and was ultimately elected pope, as John VIII in 855.
She supposedly reigned for two years, secretly taking a lover. Her secret was finally revealed when she gave birth to a child in the street during a papal procession, whereupon she and her lover were either stoned or hung upon the spot."

I assume, no relation to our own wise and definitely not catholic Joan.

As noted above, the story is denied by Catholic spokespersons.  Just as the buggering of choirboys is denied by Catholic spokespersons.

As for the Dominican Republic, I didn't know it stood out compared to other sexual playgrounds of demagogues.  I learn something new every day.

I have read this too, and I say  "about time"........We can all thank the internet with all questions  answered based on facts......The more people  learn, the less they  depend on the old crutch of religion......As most of us know, religion thrives on ignorance.....Since Theists  get their hold on us when we are most vulnerable, which is pretty smart on their part, many of us take them at their word and are told never to question  them.....However knowledge, especially today, is hard to suppress and wins the day........So Thank you Internet for providing our youth with the truth......:-)

The thing with the internet too, is that you can keep reading from so many different sources & able to weed things down.

Though the worrying thing I see in the latest statistics is the rise of numbers in such idiotic religions as Mormonism, Jehovah Witnesses and Islam.
This is a sign of diminishing intelligence to moi.

From what I know 70% of people raised as Mormons continue to identify as Latter-day Saints in the U.S., keep in mind that there are different branches of Mormonism.   I am not sure about American Muslims, but I do know that only 37% of people raised as Jehovah's Witnesses continue to be members of the denomination.  I don't know if the rise in numbers within these Christian denominations or other Abrahamic religions are entirely due to the number of converts that they receive, but they might also be due to people who are raised in these groups either from birth or from a very young age who have undergone the prescribed rituals in order to become official members of these religious groups as well.  I don't think the research proves that none of these people won't ever doubt their beliefs or that they won't ever leave the Mormons, the JW's or Islam, either by choice or by being kicked out of the group for doing things that the group disagrees with.
