Will he receive counsel?
Probably not - as long as he keeps his donations to the Tower at the top of the list, he will be fine. The Tower likes it when Prince gets publicity - it means more money for them too.

Remember Michael Jackson? He kept his Tower donations up - that is why he avoided disfellowshipping after Thriller was released. It is easy to avoid judicial meetings when you reply to their inquiries with a big enough cheque.

If there's nothing specifically objectionable about the other causes (such as for example gay rights), and as long as the contributions to the Watchtower keep coming, he will have no problems.

Prince is gay, right?
Much speculation to that effect in the (non-JW) gay community, though no specific gossip.

Is Prince gay?

Well, apparently not...at least, not now. His conversion to the JWs has fixed that particular issue in his life, along with giving him a narrow view of politics.

From a 2008 interview:

Recently, Prince hosted an executive who works for Philip Anschutz, the Christian businessman whose company owns the Staples Center. “We started talking red and blue,” Prince said. “People with money—money like that—are not affected by the stock market, and they’re not freaking out over anything. They’re just watching. So here’s how it is: you’ve got the Republicans, and basically they want to live according to this.” He pointed to a Bible. “But there’s the problem of interpretation, and you’ve got some churches, some people, basically doing things and saying it comes from here, but it doesn’t. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum you’ve got blue, you’ve got the Democrats, and they’re, like, ‘You can do whatever you want.’ Gay marriage, whatever. But neither of them is right.”

When asked about his perspective on social issues—gay marriage, abortion—Prince tapped his Bible and said, “God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, ‘Enough.’ ”

And from an article about his appearance on Arsenio in 2014:

He also expressed mild gay panic twice. Discussing his pet peeve of people touching his hair (which is reasonable and, from what I can tell as a result of having a friend with a giant afro, probably comes up way too often given the current state of Prince's 'do), he talked about an Oscars party he attended, in which several people bumped into his bird-boned frame. "It's mostly dudes," he said, wincing and shaking off the willies that just talking about such abominable contact inflicts.
Then, Arsenio had a guy come out to solicit relationship advice (the results were boring and ended up with Prince dumping this guy's girl for him, I think?). After approaching, the guy joked about sitting in Prince's lap. The joke sat about as well as a dude sitting in Prince's lap.
Prince is under no contract to accept any sort of male-on-male contact, and it doesn't make him a homophobe per se, though his supposed anti-gay marriage comment (which "a Prince source" later claimed was a misquote) and his more recent refusal to discuss the issue at all, make his expressed disgust at the idea of so much being grazed by another penis-having individual unsurprising. Let's add recent, seemingly anti-bisexual lyrics to the pot. Mostly, it's just disappointing to watch a guy whose highly profitable image was based in part on playing with people's perceptions of his sexuality and masculinity ("Am I black or white? Am I straight or gay?" he sang on the title track of his fourth album, Controversy), reduce himself to this uptight dude's dude stereotype. Prince was once so comfortable with his sexuality that he sang a song about jacking a person off (probably a woman, but still), that he gender-fucked for the sake of exploring connection with a woman ("If I Was Your Girlfriend"), that he wore heels. (Does he still wear heels? It'd be cool if he still wore heels.) Now he's a guy who cringes at the prospect of contact with another dude.

The same article points out the contradictions that are apparent in Prince's religious conversion:

Prince's heightened investment in his Jehovah's Witness faith in recent years has led him to abandon a lot of the principles that made him a maverick, but that also made him rich and famous. He's spoken out about cursing and sexual explicitness in pop music, seemingly oblivious to the fact that had he not cursed and been sexually explicit in the past, there's a good chance that he wouldn't have the platform and attention to voice his thoughts on these things now. His arms-length treatment of gay stuff just makes him seem more antiquated than his current music does, a guy who's stuck in a past that he rejected when it was the present.
If Prince is gay, or bisexual, the Jehovah's Witness religion has 'fixed' him. He is pure and perfect now. smiley: tongue

Well I have been waiting for this for 30+ years.
Australia..........    Sydney's outer western suburbs.......... June 1985.
A bomb went off in the shared Kingdom Hall of  Casula and Liverpool Congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses during the Casula meeting. My then husband and I went to meetings here until we moved out of the area. We were not there at the time.
In the from row Graham and Joy Wykes were sitting side by side under a blanket as it was a cold day.  He had just glanced at her and said "I love you" when the bomb went off. It was a particularly heinous device designed to inflict maximum harm. It had been planted under the platform next to a bag of nails that became projectile missiles when the bomb went off. The piano flew forward and killed Graham instantly and seriously injured Joy. There were many ambulances that attended. Many wondered that not more had been instantly killed or maimed. The flying nails missed faces as all had their heads bent inspecting scripture.
The Congregation's sin had been to come to the assistance of a women in trouble - that woman being Andrea Warwick. She was not a JW or even thinking of becoming one but she had a sister Judy (physical sister) in the Casula congregation who saw the Andreas desperation for herself and daughter Trudi in trying to escape the threats of a man she believed would kill them. Their separation and custody battle had become ugly.  Judy, Joy Wykes, and Greg Hahn help Andrea get out of Sydney and for this the congregation suffered the consequences.
Over the previous 5 years the husband and bomber - Len Warwick was also a person of interest in a series of bombings in Sydney all of which were homes of Family Law Court Judges - all connected to the custody case yet no-one put the pieces together. Most of these judges died - in one case a wife died.
In 2014 a very brave woman and author by the name of Debbi Marshall who had become a crime writer when her own husband was murdered wrote Andrea Warwick's story, connecting the dots. From Judi's published book, Channel 7 ran a segment. From that segment the police opened this cold case. Len Warwick has been tried and found guilty. He has been imprisoned for 20 years. At his age I don't imagine that he will come out again.
Andrea Warwick looks like a woman who has been tortured every day of her life and her now adult daughter the same. I hope they find peace.
I know Len Warwick has found hell as Australian Prisons are not places you want to be. I hope he stays there.

From what I read about that case a lot of things pointed at Len Warwick and it seems a bit shocking that it took 30 years to finally convict him. Glad it's done!

Thanks Sharon, yes can you believe it - 30 years! Len has lived the good years in freedom and for all we know terrorizing other people. I'm sure Andria and daughter Trudi  spent those same years looking over their shoulder, feeling the fear and the guilt. I remember that I cried for 2 weeks when the bomb went off.
We owe a great deal to Judy Marshall. When I'm less busy - I'll write to her.
Hope all is well with you.
Cheers,
Liezel xx

My grandfather passed away today and my dad sent me a TEXT to let me know. I should expect such behavior since I have been out four years, but I am still super pissed. I mean he can't call me?

I feel your pain. Not a death yet, but my family just moved back to the area three months ago and have not called, texted or emailed that they live in the next town over. Fine if it was just me, but they don't even contact my kids.
Correction, my mother had the nerve to send my daughter a fakey flakey card with her NJ return address on it, as if she didn't live 20 minutes away. An elder called me today. First call since I married my "worldly man". How much they want to encourage (punish) me. I am so sorry about your grandfather.

I also offer my condolences to you eexjw2....
There is nothing (good) to be said about the conduct of JWs. They do what they do and normal human beings just shake their heads in dismay.

Sorry to hear of your loss eewx2--and the way you were told about it. It is hard to imagine how they think that such actions will bring anyone back!
My thoughts are with you. I  hope that you do have some pleasant memories of your Grandpa.

I'm so sorry.
Yes, we are winding down and hopefully any of us will find a new home for sharing experience/strength and hope.
EE - this is just the thing many of us have become used to....apparently no one really writes a letter or calls on the telephone.  It's always about the computer....
I'm sure you will have many memories of your grandfathersmiley: grin
Heck, after many years of my and hubby grandparents being gone - we have never forgotten them.  Just try keeping the memories and know one day perhaps our grandchildren will remember us with love.
For some of us it's not always good memories - it's just  a part of genealogy.

Thanks everyone. I was just upset. I was able to have a few Christmases and fourth of Julys with my grandpa. He was 83, so that's a pretty good run. When I saw him a couple weeks ago he was doing really well, so I wasn't really expecting him to pass so suddenly. It appears he went in his sleep, so I am grateful for that.
Thanks for all the kind words. He was my last grandparent so it is hitting me especially hard.

Now all the crap with my parents and brother ignoring me at the calling hours and funeral (if it isn't in a church) begins. They act so pious, but I won't let that stop me from going. I have the rest of my family on my side who are not nor will ever be, Witnesses. They will all want me there. But if there is anything afterwards I will be asked to not attend.
Again, many thanks for the kind words of support. I am going to miss this forum very much!!!

EE- It's always a sad situation, losing a loved one.
Hubby has a lot of wonderful stories for sharing about his grandparents...it is sometimes sad listening to him talk about when they got older because he has so many fond memories.

I guess that's when we do our grieving and know that life moves forward.
Because I have 3 grandchildren - I sometimes wonder how they will remember me.  I'd hope it's with love just as you will remember your grandfather.
So true...I'm going to miss this place too.

Sorry for your loss sweetheart.     It was unkind of your dad not to ring you direct but isn't that how some of our jdub parents and family choose to run?    Silly isn't it.   We are still our living breathing selves minus their silly cult .... and yet they prefer to play games.

You pay your respects to your Grandfather the way YOU want to honey ..... don't give a second thought about everyone else.   Grieving is not something the average jdub has ever been encouraged to do ... but it doesn't mean you can't!    If you haven't already gone ... take a flower with you or a little verse.    If your family ignore you ... hug them anyway .... they will look callous not you.
If there is something on after and it's not at your jdub rellies homes .... then just go anyway.    If you are not up to that .... go and celebrate in your own way.   A nice cafe for afternoon tea ... go out for dinner ... you'll think of something that would mean the world to your Grandfather.   Wish we could all be there for you.    Be strong xxx

Thanks for your kind words. The funeral is today. It is also my 16th wedding anniversary so we are going out to eat after the funeral. My grandpa wouldn't want me to not celebrate just because he died so that was a easy way to bow out of the event afterwards. I don't know about hugging my dad he may explode! LOL.

Goodbye all, it was fun being here and thanks for the ideas and the replies and the advice.  I want to mention that during my time here  apart from the regulars, I really enjoyed the non-JW Dispell. You remember her? she was good fun, I wonder if she ever looked in again?

I battle away on JW Discussion Forum as do many others from this site which is much more impersonal than we were here because there are so many posters but good nevertheless.

A long aquaintance with the literature of the Witnesses leads one to the conclusion that they live in the intellectual ‘twilight zone’.

Good bye! Hard to believe we are saying that after so many years. I can't say I'm not sad about losing this community, but I haven't been active here for a while now. Life has been pulling me in other directions, most of them good, and being an ex-jw doesn't play much of a part any more. I will miss knowing I have this group of people to come to, though. I have a lump in my throat, but joy in my heart.

Love to you all, and may life treat you kindly.

Good bye to you too hb.
I do remember Dispell. I think she popped in a few times since she stopped posting regularly.
I will definitely miss this small ex-jw corner of the internet and all the regulars.

BTW, which JW discussion forum is that half banana?

BTW, which JW discussion forum is that half banana?Auth, Half Banana and I, as well as several others from this forum, post over on jehovahs-witness.com. As HB said, it's a larger ex-JW community and is sometimes a little rough around the edges, but there are many folks over there who have really good hearts and want to lend a hand in support of each other. Hope to see you over there!

Half Banana, I always enjoy your intelligent and thought-provoking comments. Hope to see you around!

I didn't want to wait until the last minute to make a 'see you around' (I say that instead of goodbye) post..
I too haven't been much active with posting in the last several years due to being busy with living life mostly outside the internet in general.
I still know quite a few of you through your postings though. I read even if not replying much to threads as I did in years past.
I really think there are some great people here!
I will say that I am sorry to see the place go to read only in a short time here...
But, the years have passed (over 11 for our site and over 13 for me on exjw posting in general). I guess the reality that we are getting older and my own mortality has played a big part in the tough decision to step back from keeping the board here going.
All things will come to an end sometime---including our lives themselves--- and life is too short to not live it the fullest we can.
For some, continuing with the emphasis on jw and exjw information at other internet sites is a good and logical choice. For me, I have to dial back my focus since there are many things I want to experience and learn about also...
All of us here I think did a GREAT job in helping people and exposing information about the witnesses that needed exposed. Some longtimers like me may feel similar and want to 'retire', but that won't be the case for everybody of course.
As far as religion: I am not for organized religion at the time. However, I am still open to the idea of a
higher power or God. I am officially "not knowing" since I don't think we have the capabilities to comprehend everything. I have tried over the years to stay out of the debate on the subject for the most part. I hope people explore and come up with what works for them personally since it is quite a personal topic that no side should really force onto another.

Best wishes to all! I posted my thank you's in another post so I won't do that again...
Our place did well in serving it's purpose and I hope the information about the very troubling parts of the watchtower and jw's will keep being exposed for many years to come.
Good luck to everyone for the future and see you around possibly at some point! I will be online still but just not as much..

Thank you Ronnie. Thanks for all you've done. I know it's helped a lot of people. After I found Timothy's board, I was able to finally admit to myself completely that I was an EX Jw. But the problem on that site was there were some pretty mean people. When I left there, I had to recover from being an Ex Jw. Sounds odd, but that's what happened. It was hard on me. Here you helped me round it all out, and come to terms with it.
Now that I've gone through all that, the JW part of my life seems so far behind, almost just a dim memory of another lifetime.
Thank you again Ronnie. It's been a good bunch of years!

Well, today appears to the the 19th, so I'll go ahead and put the read-only in place here and make a few other minor changes (like taking the chat room off and a few sticky posts)....
We certainly aren't discontinuing the posting option here because of lack of information or anything like that, so for visitors wanting other ex-jw places to check out, there are a lot still on the internet----(only some are posted at the bottom of the forum board.)
-----
Everyone still should be able to log onto yuku as normal.
People's profiles and pm's should be working as well.

--------
If anyone wants to send me a pm for suggestions or anything else, I'm glad to respond-----It may not be as quick as I was when the site was active, but I'll still try to respond.....

Thanks again to everyone!

Yeah I feel the same, Dave...I find that as more time passes, I forget just how scared, hurt, angry, and depressed I was. I had no one to turn to in my life, and by chance found this site. I am so thankful for it and everyone that was on here when I started posting and found answers and support.

I wish to see the Governing Body of Jehovah's witnesses(R) put on trial for crimes against humanity and face absolute justice. Why? Consider the un-Biblical an dangerous 'Blood doctrine', Shunning and the protection of paedophiles and you may see why I feel this way.
