Didn't Paul put a curse that killed someone over tithing issues in the Christian Bible? I swear he did. I remember reading it. Many Christians do think tithing is something that you have to do, some don't. I think that your supposed to according to Jesus who told his followers when discussing taxes that they should give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to Yahweh what is Yahweh's. So I think that since Jews had to make tithing offerings, Jesus as an Essene Jew probably would have done it too.
Orthodox Mormons have to pay 10% tithing to the LDS Church. You cannot really do anything, you have no privileges if you don't tithe.  LDS Church missionaries have to pay to go on missionaries, I'm sure the Church has more than enough money to help pay for their missionaries trips. To me, it's just greed, with what the LDS Church is doing. The LDS Church presidency is just greedy. Some people cannot afford to pay 10% a month. They have families to take care of. Think about it.
