Why won't they accept his bigotry?

Dear Readers,

Here is an interesting post on AtheistNexus.org about religiously-inspired bigotry towards LGBT people:

I'm excepting of homosexuality, why can't they be excepting of my homophobia?

I work with a southern baptist who thinks since he excepts homosexuals, mind you not the sin, Then why can't homosexuals except his choice to not except the lifestyle? He doesn't see it as religious bigotry, nor the dehumanization and segregation of another person. Only a choice, that he should be given to not except it. Tell me isn't this the most ass backwards way of justifying intolerance?

Interesting. This Southern Baptist claims that he accepts homosexuals but not the "sin". He wonders why homosexuals can't accept his choice to not accept the "lifestyle". First of all, homosexuality isn't a "lifestyle" nor is having gay sex a "sin". The man only has the choice that " he should not be given to accept it". Even if he chooses not to accept homosexuality, it still doesn't change the fact that homosexuality exists and that it isn't affecting his life. Gay people aren't going anywhere. Gay people are not hurting him, he really needs to learn to get over his discomfort and mind his own business. It's very hard to make out what Tim is saying, isn't it? The man has no choice to accept that homosexuals exist and that LGBT people aren't going anywhere. Why are the sex lives of gay people any of  his business anyways? What he is doing is religious bigotry, the dehumanization and segregation of other people. It is a way of justifying his intolerance which is rooted in unproven religious belief.   Maybe this Southern Baptist should keep his nose out of other people's private lives.

In his eyes, homosexuality is all about sex. No romance involved.  He probably views heterosexuality as being all about straight women pleasing the sexual needs of straight men and having numerous children. He mostly likely views heterosexuality as being all about sex. No romance needs to be involved.  Again, this is very fuzzy thinking. Asking a gay person to accept the homophobia of homophobic bigots is like asking me to accept a racist's view that I am inherently inferior to white people because I am black or that I should accept the anti-Semitic views of anti-Semites because I am into Jewish culture. No way. Bigotry is something that should be challenged, questioned and spoken out against. People seem to think that if their bigotry is rooted in religious belief that you cannot question it, challenge it or speak out against it. Well, actually you can say something against religiously-inspired bigotry. Religiously-inspired bigotry is not "sacred". Think about it.

Sincerely,

B.W.
