If you cannot do your job right, perhaps you should find another job

Dear Readers,

I was thinking, what is it with religious "celebrities" having a career that conflicts with their chosen religious beliefs? For instance, there is this Canadian Jehovah's Witness model, I forget her name.  She considers herself to be a Christian, first and foremost.  She won't do any pictures naked nor will she pose in any pictures with military, governmental or religious symbols. Not doing any naked pictures, reminds of the deep and irrational hatred that the Jehovah's Witnesses and other religious fundamentalists have of sexuality. Especially, sexuality that is expressed with no constraints.  Not doing pictures with military or governmental symbols is reminiscent of forgetting the sacrifices that our soldiers go through to keep us safe, despite the damage that war does. The " no symbols of government" reminds of how a Jehovah's Witness won't show allegiance to their country, yet they show blind obedience and unquestioning allegiance to their religious leaders. I'm guessing that is how Hitler managed to deceive people. I'm willing to bet that she would do a pose with a Watchtower logo in the background.  She shows a deep level of emotional intolerance to the fact that millions of other people hold different religious beliefs than she does. But what can you expect from a Christian fundamentalist, whether they are a Jehovah's Witness or not? She may think that her denomination holds the "correct interpretation" of the Bible and are the "one, only true and correct denomination", but what proof does she have of this, besides quoting verses from a religious text which actually isn't a form of "proof".

Most people would complain if an atheist refused to do their job, if something were to offend their moral views.  Why do we let religious people make up excuses for not doing their jobs? If you cannot do your job because you have to put up with things that offend your chosen religious views, find another job that is more compatible with your beliefs. It reminds me of Jehovah's Witness woman who refused to give a gay couple a marriage license because same-sex marriages " went against her religious beliefs", she actually won the court case that she was involved with.  I think she owes those two men an apology for denying them a marriage license.  It's not like this men were asking to marry at her Kingdom Hall ( Jehovah's Witness Church). Yes, Kingdom Halls are churches, despite what the Jehovah's Witnesses say.  What if a Roman Catholic woman, let's say, were to deny her a marriage license this Roman Catholic woman believed that the Jehovah's Witnesses are not "true Christians" and since they are not "true Christians", they are not actually married to their spouse and are actually "fornicating"? This women won a case that essentially promotes the ability for work places to discriminate against others. This JW woman used her religiously-inspired homophobic beliefs to deny a gay couple a marriage license would signify these men's relationship as legal, she was allowed to deny people a civil right that is supposed to be given to ALL Americans.

Should we allow people to discriminate against others because they don't agree with or like the fact that interracial dating, sex or marriage is tolerated in society because of their "sincerely-held" religious beliefs or moral values? I would hope not. Should we  allow people to discriminate against folk who are in interfaith relationships. I would hope not.  Should we allow people to discriminate against other people who come from other countries because they don't speak the same language as well as others because they come from another culture? Think about it.

Sincerely,

B.W.
Sincerely,

B.W.
