What a nice guy. He wishes that all atheists would die from complications due to Ebola

Loren, as so often happens, I think you are correct in your assessment. "Hackneyed" describes the responses. The ones that irritate me the most are those who pursue the "success" strategies as espoused by the likes of Oprah and her cohorts.
I wrote a response to a fellow who responded to the article you cited. Here it is:

Ricky, what possess you to say such a foolish thing as, "I'm hoping that Ebola cures all you atheists"? Are you aware of the role of christian dogma in the burning of witches in Africa at this time? Do you realize how much hate gets spewed by hate-mongers who even to this day cause harm to those who do not have the genes of male or female, but are homosexual? How can you judge another when you have not walked in his or her shoes? Religion authors wars like no other organization. The Spanish Inquisition, The Crusades, The Burning Times, the KKK, the terrible bindings placed on women by religious dogma. The even worse binding of telling men, males, that they have some primacy over women. Of course, how can I forget the support of slavery, even in my country? Are you not ashamed of the religious history of our nation? Do you condone the savagery of Islam toward women, homosexuals, and other religions? Religious dogma kills as no other belief system known. I hope when you have a heart attack, or cancer, that you have people around you who know how to pray away these diseases. I expect you will eschew medical care because you do not believe in it.

Wow.  This "Ricky" man hopes that all atheists die from complications due to Ebola.  What a nice guy. I'm sure that Jesus and Yahweh would approve of his statement.  I can certainly understand Joan's anger, yes religion has and does cause harm, but to say that it has caused more harm than every other kind of belief system, I would have to disagree.  She does tend to stereotype all religious people sometimes and I don't think that it appropriate. Disagree with, challenge and criticize religion all you want, but don't stereotype people.  How does Joan know that Ricky would avoid seeking medical attention if he became seriously ill?  Keep in mind, I'm not defending Ricky's statement which I happen to think is abominable, but I also think that Joan Denoo is stereotyping all religious people, even if she is not intending to do that.   Sure, there are plenty of religious hatemongers, but that are non-religious hatemongers too.  Hatemongering is really a human problem, not just a religious problem.  I don't think that Joan is trying to be a hatemonger, but I don't think it is appropriate to stereotype all religious people as being fundamentalist hatemongers who persecute feminists, LGBT people, individuals who believe that abortion ought to be legal or violent extremists who murder people for making satirical drawings of Mohammed.

Ricky probably hasn't very little compassion or sympathy for his fellow human beings in order to say something like that. This is what I think.  What do you think?
