a JW's distrust of male doctors

Reply by sk8eycat 4 minutes ago

My sister goes to a Nurse Practitioner instead of an MD....but she has always been a little weird about men in general.  (And she has Asperger's Syndrome, so she's weird about a lot of things...a JW who is also seriously fascinated with science, for example.)
I always smile, or laugh, when a truly educated person refers to "PhD" as "Piled higher and Deeper."  But many of them have done original work and contributed to our advancement in real knowledge.  Remember that Charles Darwin was originally studying for the ministry when he took time off to travel on the HMS Beagle....and he changed our understanding of biology forever.  With some help from his friends.

The JW's aren't really fond of modern medicine or psychology.  Consider the fact that they prohibit their members from having a blood transfusion, but allow them to have a bloodless surgery. Sk8eycat's sister may have a serious fascination with science, but I'm sure that she rejects certain aspects of it that conflict with her literal interpretation of the Bible.  She may distrust male doctors and that distrust might be influenced by the JW's negative attitudes regarding consensual sexual expression amongst consenting adults.  What do you think?
