Dennis, I know many people believe homosexuality is a choice, however the evidence is clear and has been shown for many years, that human sexuality is determined by DNA and one has no control over that.
"the process of determining human sexual orientation is fundamentally the same in all mammals. In this process, four phenotypic dimensions of sexuality develop from two more or less distinct sex genotypes. ... The causes of sexual inversions are categorized as genetic-hormonal, pharmacological, maternal stress, immunological, and social experiential."
~ Neurohormonal functioning and sexual orientation: A theory of homosexuality–heterosexuality.

"The present study shows sex-atypical cerebral asymmetry and functional connections in homosexual subjects. The results cannot be primarily ascribed to learned effects, and they suggest a linkage to neurobiological entities."
~ Ivanka Savic and Per Lindström, PET and MRI show differences in cerebral asymmetry and functional connectivity between homo- and heterosexual subjects.
There are dozens of other research papers revealing functional connections of homosexuals because of  genetic-hormonal, pharmacological, maternal stress, immunological, neurobiological and social experiential entities.

To believe homosexual functioning is a choice exists as a remnant of religious prejudices.

When they say it's a choice...  I know some religious people have accepted the genetic basis of sexuality, but they still feel it's a "choice" whether or not the homosexual individual engages in homosexual behavior.  Like, they'll say you can be born gay, but that doesn't mean you have to have gay sex.  They think of homosexuality as a "test" that god gave some people to overcome.  That's where all the conversion therapy stuff comes in - to try to repress your nature.

For those types of Christians, they'll accept the science, but then they go and make up a bunch of random crap to say how the science doesn't contradict the Bible.  They will continue to feel justified in their hatred for homosexual acts, and they'll be all annoying and say they "hate the sin, not the sinner".  They'd advocate for gays to marry lesbians and to, like, never have enjoyable sex, ever.  That's how god rolls.

Fine ... there are people who were BORN left-handed, but that doesn't mean that they have to WRITE left-handed, right? ... and there are STILL people who have mental issues because they were FORCED TO conform to the majority.
And I'd better stop here before I become incoherently profane... [grumble]

Yup.  Gotta overcome that sinful left-handedness!

And while you're at it, stay in the closet, marry a nice woman, have some kids, and then destroy their lives when you fake your own death and come crawling back more than a decade later with a gay lover in tow.  True story.

That one deserves a post of its own.  First read - it's impossible not to judge the guy regardless of his issues.

Seems to me he could have found a better way.  For one thing, he should have stayed away.
That being said, It sounds like the blame for this tragedy can be laid to rest mostly at the feet of religion.

That was kind of a dick move on his part to come back to claim some inheritance money.  Worst way to come out of the closet?

There are a lot of heterosexual marriages where one spouse is actually homosexual, though, and that's definitely a problem caused by religious stigma.  This guy just takes it to an extreme.

"That's how god rolls."

No, I don't think so. There is no god so how can god roll? The god to which an individual refers is a fabrication of the mind, not a statement of a reality.
When a statement indicates the person understands the genetic or hormonal cause of homosexuality and continues to claim that a homosexual person should not have sex, the one making the claim is speaking from ignorance, and thus, to be ignored. It doesn't matter what he/she says because he/she bases his/her conclusion on fallacious reasoning.

Speaking of god as a fictional character, of course, that'd totally be the way he rolls.  He's a jerk like that.

  1. Kacie Tsao and I would agree that the religious person who feel it is a 'choice;
whether or not the homosexual individual engages in homosexual behavior.
Religious fundamentalists say you can be born gay but that doesn't mean you
have to have gay sex. Well, I say that you can be born gay and that means
you can have gay sex and maybe you should. They view homosexuality
as a 'test' that Yahweh gave some people to 'overcome'. Homosexuality is not
a 'test' from Yahweh nor can it be 'overcome'. ' Conversion therapy' doesn't
work. Trying to epress your nature is wrong. The Christians who accept
a genetic basis for homosexuality accept siceince but make up stuff about
how science " doesn't " contradict the bible. Actually it does. They continue
as Kacie said, to feel justified in their irrational hatred for homosexual sex acts
and act annoying with that dumb expression ' hate the sin, not the sinner'
Homosexual sex is not a 'sin' and gay people are not 'sinners' for having
gay sex. They wrongly advocate for gay and lesbians to marry a heterosexual
person of the opposite sex and to never have enjoyable sex as long as
they live. That's how their god 'rolls'. I don't believe that's how their god 'rolls'
gays and lesbians shouldn't marry heterosexuals and they can have enjoyable
sex with a same gendered partner.

I will say when it comes to Idaho Spud's comment that the 'heterosexual marriages
' where one spouse is actually gay is not really a true 'heterosexual marriage'.
It is a mixed-orientation 'marriage' and I don't consider them to be real 'marriages'
. This situation ruins the lives of both heterosexuals and homosexuals. I agree
with Spud that is is a problem caused by religiously-based stigma.

I agree with Joan Denoo that gays are born gay. I agree that the view of
homosexual functioning being a 'choice' is largely influenced by religiously-
based prejudices. Homosexual functioning it not a 'choice'. Having gay sex
may be a choice but gay people have the right to have consensual
sex with a partner of the same gender. Gay people having sex with
same-sex partners is a non-harmful choice. The men of Sodom were
accused in the Book of Jude in the Christian text of 'going after strange flesh'.
Gay men who go after other men in a sexual manner are not 'going after
strange flesh'. Same gendered sexual activity is not 'strange flesh'. Those
men were angels. They did not have actual human bodies. The men of Sodom
could not have all been gay and even if they were so what. It seems to me
they wanted to rape the angels instead of having consensual sex with them
since they wanted to break down Lot's door. Lot was wrong for referring
to the men's request as an 'abominable deed' if it refers to homosexual
sex. Having consensual sex between angels disguised as men and
the men of Sodom would not be an 'abominable deed'. It would have been
an 'abominable deed' if it were about gang rape. Lot offered his engaged
daughters to these men and he ended up getting drunk and having sex
with them after Sodom and Gomorrah and the other cities were destroyed.
What a sick pervert Lot was!

  2. I also agree with Joan Denoo that a person who understands the inborn
causes of homosexuality and makes the pathetic argument that a gay person
'should not' have sex is speaking from ignorance and this piece of information
should be ignored because as Joan says, they are basing this conclusion
on fallicious reasoning that has no viable basis. Gay people should have
sex with a same-sex partner or spouse as that is what a homosexual does.

The gay man referenced in the story who entered a mixed-orientation 'marriage'
left and returned with his boyfriend to claim money. He got into that
situation because of religion and he should be ashamed of himself.
