Traiditonal Marriage ad

Traditional Marriage
Is it time to redefine marriage?  What do you think?  Vote Now!   >

I have mentioned this ad before.  I don't believe in the concept of "traditional marriage".  I support the right for same-sex couples to legally marry each other, of course.  I fail to understand how legalizing same-sex marriage will harm heterosexual couples that are already married.  Are homophobic straight men worried that their wives are going to leave them for other women if lesbian couples can marry?  Are homophobic heterosexual women worried that their straight husband will suddenly decide to  leave her  and start dating and having sex with other men, if the gay couple down the street can legally obtain a marriage license?  How are same-sex couples marrying and raising children, whether from artificial insemination or adoption harming your family from living your lives the way that you want to?  I am a heterosexual, married, African-American woman and I'm quite sure that same-sex couples and same-sex parented families aren't doing anything to keep me from living my life in the way that I want to.  They aren't hurting me in any way.

Religious institutions can marry whoever they want to, some don't want to marry same-sex couples and that is their right.  Some religious groups do want to marry same-sex couples in their houses of worship and they have the right to do that.  Religious marriages aren't legally recognized by the government and for a good reason. The separation of church-and-state in this country is a very valuable law and a necessary one to have if we want this country to remain pluralistic.  I don't really understand why fundamentalist religious groups care so much about secular marriages, I thought that being married "in the eyes of the Lord" was the only "valid" marriage ceremony?  Why do the Mormons care so much about secular marriage, aren't Temple marriages superior?  A LDS woman cannot get into the Celestial Kingdom if she isn't married in an Orthodox Mormon Temple and I don't that civil marriage is going to help her over her "eternal fate".
