" [ God] has made it possible for honest-hearted ones to move out of the wicked world, figuratively speaking, and into the spiritual paradise that he created ".
( " Dwell on What Jehovah Has Done for You ", Watchtower, 15 January 2011)

For example, many use tobacco, chew betel nut, or take drugs for recreational purposes.- " A Godly View of Life", What Does the Bible Teach?

These quotations are from Jehovah's Witness literature that were featured on a recent blog post written on "JW Survey". The pictures from the "Live Forever" book are somewhat humorous.  What is wrong with disco music.  What is wrong with gay cowboys sealing their love with a kiss?  What is wrong with romantic love between people of the same-sex?  Why worship a God who condemns love amongst caring and trustworthy consenting adults who are not hurting anyone else? As for disco music, isn't Larry Graham of Sly and the Family Stone a major contributor to disco music? Is Larry temporarily under the control of Satan whenever he produces a new song or album?  Larry Graham and his wife are members of the Jehovah's Witnesses., they have been ever since they joined the Organization in the 1970's. In fact, it was Larry Graham who inspired Prince to become a JW in the early 2000's, after undergoing two years of debating religious issues with each other.

If it wasn't for disco, where would music be now?  Why be involved with the music industry if it is so "corrupt" and seems to be somewhat contrary to your religious beliefs to a certain degree?  The music industry in itself isn't corrupt, it is the behavior of certain people that is corrupt.  As for taking drugs for recreational purposes, that isn't my thing.  I understand why some people do it,  I don't agree with it, and I don't think that it is necessary.  Some people smoke marijuana for medical reasons which may be more understandable. As for a "godly view" of life, like the one lead by the historical Jesus, which included accusing people who married more than once and heterosexual men who felt lust in their hearts for women that they are not married to, even though they haven't slept with them as being "adulterers".  That doesn't strike me as being very appealing.

I think that Jesus was simply wrong about the issue of marriage.  I think he was inspired by Essene Jews in this regard. They lived celibate and isolated lives in caves at the time that they were writing the Dead Sea Scrolls. Jesus of Nazareth, the historical person, he was known for endlessly bragging  to his followers about how Yahweh's heavenly army of angels would soon destroy all of the enemies of the Jews. Josephus probably would have known about Jesus' apocalyptic teachings and of the disturbance that he caused in the Jewish Temple due to connections that his family might have had with the High Temple Priests when he wrote about the war between the Romans and the Jews. That isn't the kind of example that I want to imitate in my life.  You know, come to think of it, as I have stated before, the Gospels' views on Pontius Pilate seem ahistorical by portraying him as being sympathetic towards Jesus. Historians have pretty much shown that Pilate wasn't the kind of man who would behave in a friendly manner towards a Jewish preacher ranting about the upcoming apocalypse in which the Roman occupiers, including Pilate would be destroyed.  Pilate was more the kind of guy who would crucify you first and then ask questions later.
