LGBT Mormons, Families and Friends Invited to Halloween Party
October 26 in West Valley

 You are invited to a spooktacularLGBT/SSA Halloween social! Costumes would be awesome, or just come as yourself. Delicious hot soup and yummy rolls will be served. Please bring a potluck to share!

 Where: Nicholson home
 Time: 7:00 to 11:00 PM

 Directions:
 5342 Ted Way
 West Valley City, UT 84120
From the south, take I-15 to 2-15 then get off at 4700 South. Turn left (West) on 47th and then turn right on 2700 west or another road such as Bangerter Highway and head north to 4100 South. Turn left and drive West on 4100 for 5-10 minutes. Then turn left on 5240 West (John way--or 5310 west if you miss the first turn. There is a light at 5200 west so it is almost immediately after the light.) Turn RIGHT on 4160 south (Ted way) and the house is on the right, nearly at the end of the road before it turns.
Coming from the north, take I-15 to highway 201 west, then take the 5600 West exit and turn left. Continue south to 4100 south and turn left. Take the second right onto 5310 West. Turn left, then right, then right again onto Ted Way. My house is a few houses down on the right.

David Melson Memorial Service
David Melson Remembered
Memorial Service Held at the Headquarters of HRC
 October 2013
 In a service held at the headquarters of the Human Rights Campaign in Washington DC, friends and associates gathered on October 12 to remember David Melson, former president of Affirmation, who passed away last August. Judy, who traveled from California to be at the service, sang the gospel song “In the Garden.” Two years ago, David asked Judy to sing at his memorial service when the time came.
“Such a moving service for Dave [and] so many heartfelt memories,” wrote Robert Moore, who served in the national leadership of Affirmation under David. “[We honored] a man who meant so much to me and did so much for LGBT Mormons and to move equality for all LGBT people forward.”
 “On this day we say a final farewell to our brother David Melson, who although considered an outcast by some, was outspoken and continued to praise Jesus and thank God even if not welcomed by his original faith community,” commented Baptist Pastor Jill McCrory, who worked with David as part of a religious coalition which helped bring marriage equality to Maryland. “His work with Affirmation is a testament to his love of God and God’s love to all.”
David served as Affirmation president for three terms (2009 – 2011). In 2009 he received the Mortensen Award, the highest distinction Affirmation bestows on a member. A memorial page is permanently posted at affirmation.org/DavidMelson.

Affirmation to Hold Event in St. George, UT

 For years I have wanted to get an Affirmation group going where I live. I have always had to drive hours to attend an Affirmation function. Two weeks ago I was up at the annual Affirmation conference in SLC and had a wonderful time. Upon returning home I decided I am going to get a group going down here in St George! So on Sunday October 20 at 5:30 pm we will have our first little get together at my parents’ home. Come for an evening of food, fun, socializing and an intro and Q&A with Affirmation: LGBT Mormons, Families and Friends.
 If you know someone in Southern Utah who would benefit from a gathering like this please invite them too. However on a personal note I ask that those who attend will be respectful of the Mormon faith and church.
 If you could please RSVP I would greatly appreciate that.

Affirmation to Hold Conference in Mexico City
Saturday, February 8, 2014

 A conference for LGBT Mormons, Families & Friends will be held in Mexico City on Saturday, February 8, 2014. The event will include musical numbers, talks, a social over some dinner and a testimony/spiritual story sharing session. An fun outing and service project may also take place that weekend.
