In a 2014, interview she expressed a hope that women would "Stand Up" and stop selling sex in the music/entertainment industry. She commented that the growing trend saddened her heart and that she had been taught to dress respectfully for her audiences . . . "not take it off, put it on."

I love Gladys Knight's music, however, I don't agree with her that women should "stand up" and stop selling sex in the music and entertainment industry. Gladys being taught to dress "respectfully" for her audiences and putting it on, instead of taking it off shows that she holds on to old ideas of sex and sexuality.  This growing trend "saddens her heart". Why, Gladys?  Women should celebrate themselves, including their positive affirmations of sexuality. Gladys Knight is a member of the LDS Church ( she was baptized into the LDS Church in 1997, following in the footsteps of her son and daughter. She also founded and directs the Mormon-themed choir known as the "Saints Unified Voices who occasionally perform at LDS Church buildings and Orthodox Mormon-themed events) and the LDS Church's views towards women are not the most affirming.
I think that artists need sex in their music, especially positive portrayals of sexuality that celebrate loving relationships because sex is an important part of what makes us human.

Anti-sex attitudes are a large part of the reason why so many teenage girls get pregnant, end up marrying too young which causes more divorces, contributes to high abortion rates and creates low self-esteem in women and may be connected with domestic abusive relationships that women sometimes find themselves in.
