Your Truth Must Be Louder Than The Pulpit
To Be True to My Sexuality and My Faith
We Are Not Alone
We Are Not Alone
Our sexuality and our gender identities are blessings, not curses. If we allow ourselves to lean on Christ, He will support us, and with His support and guidance, we don’t have to take the hard way. We don’t have to do this on our own.

Register Now for May 2015 Affirmation Spiritual & Leadership Retreat in Palmyra – Featuring Richard & Claudia Bushman
The retreat is for all who currently are or are interested in becoming leaders in the LGBTQ/SSA and allied Mormon community, broadly defined. Affirmation defines leadership as “service,” so anyone who is interested in rolling up their sleeves, and working to strengthen and support LGBTQ/SSA Mormons and their families is invited to the retreat. Richard Bushman, author of Rough Stone Rolling, the biography of Joseph Smith, Jr., and his wife Claudia Bushman, author of Contemporary Mormonism: Latter-day Saints in Modern America will be our keynote speakers. Register now for what is bound to be a remarkable weekend!

Finding Space to Be Authentic
Finding Space to Be Authentic
Affirmation members from across the country and from all walks-of-life came to Fort Myers, Florida last week to participate in workshops, discussions, social events and spiritual edification. Some of us were looking for answers to life’s toughest questions. Others just needed a friend. Whatever life story was shared, the heart felt plea from Affirmation leaders and the few members whom trod familiar paths was to be authentic and be yourself.

Florida Conference Final Keynote: Be Inspired, Be Inspiring

When I really need to be inspired, I don’t usually look to the world-level inspirers. When it really counts. I go to the inspirers of my everyday life.

We also appreciate the Church’s public recognition today of the “centuries of ridicule, persecution and even violence against homosexuals,” its statement “that such treatment was simply wrong,” and it’s affirmation of Jesus Christ’s fundamental teachings and example of fairness, love, and inclusion.

When Religion Creates Dragons
When Religion Creates Dragons
If opposing homosexuality on all levels is ultimately the right path in God’s eyes and I’m wrong, I risk having loved too deeply and trying too hard to be empathetic and I will be punished accordingly. If, however, equal rights for homosexuals is actually in line with Christ’s will and I didn’t help my fellowman—I risk causing pain, suicide, distancing people from God, and depriving other people of the things in life I love best.
Parents / Allies
Parents / Allies
It seems odd for us to apply the term “allies” to parents. In a normal world, every child simply assumes that their fiercest, most loving defenders are and will always be their parents. The term “parent” ought to be synonymous with “ally.” Unfortunately, we don’t necessarily live in a world where that can automatically be assumed. In the meantime, we are deeply grateful to parents who — sometimes quietly, sometimes boisterously — stand by our sides and let us know through action and through words that family matters, and that we are family.
