Welcome To The Society For Humanistic Judaism

If you believe that cultural Judaism is important to a contemporary Jewish identity and that cultural Jewish communities and an organized Humanistic voice enhance the Jewish experience for secular and Humanistic Jews, then SHJ is for you.

Humanistic Judaism embraces a human-centered philosophy that celebrates Jewish culture without supernatural underpinnings. Humanistic Jews value their Jewish identity and the aspects of Jewish culture that offer a genuine expression of their contemporary way of life. We believe in the human capacity to create a better world.

At last, humanists who identify with Jewish history and culture, who prize their Jewish roots and want to participate in Jewish holidays and programs without reference to God or the supernatural, have a place …. No more “wondering” around, alone in the wilderness! (Central Ohio Humanist, May-June 2010).

The #KnitABrick March to Fix Hobby Lobby
September 9, 2014, 11:30am
Supreme Court of the United States
We asked you to #knitabrick to rebuild the wall of separation between church and state, and now we have nearly 1,600 bricks! Join us as we march from the Supreme Court to Congress with our wall of separation to call on Congress to take action. Our wall will be too large to ignore. We chose to march during the the first week Congress is back in session to get this important issue on our representatives' agenda. By joining us, you can help send a clear and powerful message to your government that secular Americans want their representatives to rebuild the wall of separation between religion and government. We did our best to make sure all who want to attend can do so easily on their lunch break! We will be gathering in front of the Supreme Court from 11:30 am-12 pm. The March will commence at 12 pm and the event will end by 1 pm. Can't make the event, but want to be there in spirit? Follow the event on Twitter using the hashtag #KnitABrick and #KnitABrickMarch.
