I doubt that the Book of Revelation is "historically accurate". It really seems to be a metaphorical text. People have been guessing when Jesus would "return" for 2,000 years and he still hasn't "come back". For someone who is raised as a Jehovah's Witness or as a Seventh-day Adventist for instance, apocalyptic-thinking permeates these denominations. JW's have stopped making guesses for when the world might possibly end. One of their biggest predictions that didn't come true was in 1975. I remember it.
